If i thought there was something wrong. But when somebody comes up with Oppo Research, oh, lets call the fbi . The fbi doesnt have enough agents to take care of it. But you go and talk honestly to congressmen, they all do it, they always have. And that is the way it is. It is called Oppo Research. Today on capitol hill, House Minority leader Kevin Mccarthy was pressed repeatedly about whether he condemned the president s comments. And he redirected again and again to blame democrats. We all should stand united to ensure integrity of our elections. What i am appalled about is what has happened in our elections. I watched in the last campaign the democrat president ial campaign spend 6 million to a foreign entity to travel the world to try to find something when they could not find it, they made false accusations. Should they go to the fbi . The president said he thought the fbi director was wrong. I think what you are asking is a hypothetical, so lets look at actually what happened. Adam schiff got a phone call46. Wed like you to address the question. I think i have. Does the president have to set a tone about what is right and what is wrong. I think the president is clear that the president does not want tForeign Governments t interfere. I know what action he took. Yes, when he was approached by this, he did what was right. When i watched the democrat, they did what was wrong. Would you call the fbi . Would i call the fbi about what . If somebody a foreign adversary called you and said i have information on your opponent. I would send is it to the nor north send it to the north, yes. So he actually beingacknowle that he would alert the authorities, but never condemning the president s remarks. On the other side of the house, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told me earlier today that this isnt about politics. But ultimately it is about patriotism. Youve discovered that this president [ inaudible ] would you consider that grounds to launch impeachment proceedings . It has nothing to do with any campaign. I want you to all to understand that. As we go down this path to seek the truth for the American People and to hold the president accountable, it has nothing to do with politics. Or any campaigns. It has everything to come r kc patriotism. So our big question today is, what will republicans do about the president s comments . Joining me now, jonathan swann, yamesh, and also Elliott Williams. Thank you all for being here. Jonathan, id like to start with you. You are a careful student of the president and this white house. And the president doubled down today on comments that hes made in the past. Is there any sort of sense of urgency among white house staffers behind the scenes to try and defend him or walk back these comments . I mean, are they aware of how this all sounds . No, there is no effort to do that. And in fact what the president said directly echos what his soninlaw Jared KushnerSenior Adviser to the president said to me when i interviewed him two sundays ago when i asked Jared Kushner who was on the email chain from Rob Goldstone when the offer of help came in from we literally said the email part of the russians governments campaign to help donald trump get reelected, this is the email trail that led to the trump tower meeting, i asked Jared Kushner whether if they received a similar email like that for 2020 would they contact the fbi. And he said he cant say. He wouldnt be able to say. It is a hypothetical. Let me push pause on you because i think that we can show our viewers that video. Were talking about russia here. They are a long term adversary of the United States. Decades of hostility including spying. Does it not set off at least some alarm bell when you see an email saying that the russian government wants to help a candidate . Like i said, email that i got basically said show up at 4 00. I didnt scroll down. I never would have it had russia in the subject line. Again, i get about 250 emails a day. So i showed up at 4 00 would you call the fbi if it happened again . It is hard to do 450i7 threat cals, but the realty is we were not given anything that was salacious. Have they learned nothing . Apparently not because to me the question was not really about what happened in the meeting, it the offer itself that was problematic. The fact it said this is part of the russians Government Campaign to help donald trump. The president does not distinguish between Oppo Research and whether something is true or not, whether information is true, and the source of the information. Apply based on his comments to george stephanopoulos. And i think that again is an echo of what Jared Kushner said to me. Yeah, absolutely is. I want to show you a couple of republicans that weve heard from today responding to the president a little differently than what we heard in the beginning from Kevin Mccarthy. It a look at Lindsey Graham and mitt romney. I think that it is a mistake. I think it is a mistake of law. I dont want to send a signal to encourage this and i hope my democratic colleagues will be equally offended by the fact that this actually did happen in 2016 where a Foreign Agent was paid for by a Political Party to gather opposition research. All those things are wrong. I ran for president twice. I ran for governor once. I ran for senate twice. Ive never had any attempt made by a Foreign Government to contact me or a member of my staff and had that occurred id have contacted the fbi immediately. A hostile government like russia contacts a federal official or a federal candidate with an offer of assistance, to me the appropriate a, to take is to call the fbi. And having covered mitt romney, it is impossible not to believe him when he says that he would actually do that. He also underscored the idea that this is not as the president seemed to suggest something that happens in the routine course of a campaign. I mean, this is very outside the norm. This is not like our inboxes are not full day in and day out with northern spy agencies trying to manipulate us. I would think when we talk about what the president has learned from 2016, what he has learned is that political ly he can survive having taken a meeting with russia, politically he can survive when they make the argument that it is Oppo Research and not a Foreign Government trying to influence american democracy. What we see are republicans saying yes, i would call the fbi, but at the end of the day, republicans are still very much behind President Trump on every other issue. And it is really at this point, i think republicans have made the decision in most cases that they will stick with the president until they see something that is morally really over the top that they then will speak out on. But of course all of these things are really, really rare. So i think that what the president has learned also is that he is still the leader of his party and even if his party has terse words for him, they will stick by his side. And this is obviously a question of law. And it is currently illegal under current law to take a con friday abuse from a foreign entity, forget foreign intelligence agency. There is talk in congress of clarifying that to explicitly say if they try to help you, you got to call the fbi and if you dont, that is a crime. That is currently not technically a crime. But the fbi director was pretty clear when he was up on capitol hill saying that should this happen, they really would like to know about it. The president was pressed on that. Lets take a look at how he answered the question. Lets put yourself in a position, you are a congressman, somebody comes up and says, hey, i have information on your opponent, do you call the fbi . I dont think if it is coming from russia, you do. Ive seen a lot of things. I dont think in my whole life ive ever called the fbi. The fbi director says that is what thshould happen. The fbi director is wrong. So setting aside the fact that there is Public Record that the fbi has called the fbi about various real estate issues, what is your response in. It is the latest example of the president devaluing the opinions of certainly the Law Enforcement apparatus, but also the National Security apparatus. And it is both Law Enforcement agency and an intelligence agency. And he is sort of casting aside the experience and intelligence of the people there. And it is incredibly disrespectful to the fbi. Look, back in 2000 the Gore Campaign got essentially put on its doorstep intelligence about the bush campaign. And were not even talking about foreign actors here. Somebody ended up in jail for a year about that because the Gore Campaign did the right thing, which was notify the fbi. Like right away. Right away. That is the only proper answer here. And so what were seeing is another instance of the president look, we saw it throughout what the president and his relationship with Jeff Sessions and so on. A number of instances where the president just disregarded the views of attorneys and senior Law Enforcement officials and i think that is bad for the morale of the folks there not to mention bad for Law Enforcement. You are letting potential illegality and threats on the United States just go unpunished or uninvestigatied. And perhaps the information that you getting is wrong. Jo thank you all very much. For the first time, congress has subpoenaed two 2ru6r78 insi trump insiders who were convicted in the Mueller Investigation, those subpoenas went to rick gates and also Michael Flynn. Adam schiff says both could have valuable insights. There are a range of topics where both of these witnesses, if they are true to their cooperation agreements which 1450 go beyond this my view just the Justice Department and require cooperation with the United States and both branches of government, they have a lot that they can contribute. We also learned late yesterday that hope hicks will testify before the House Judiciary Committee next week. Back with me, Elliott Williams and joining us rosalyn halderman. Let me start with you, roz. Because we know that they have been particularly interested in the counterintelligence investigation into this president , that is one place where they differ from kind of the judiciary committees focus. It is an area that we havent learned as much about from the Mueller Report as we may have about some other aspects of all of this. What do they stand to gain here and why did they take this step . Rick gates and Michael Flynn were two of the most important witnesses in the Mueller Investigation. When you look at the report, it becomes clear that they were both interviewed over and over and over again. I believe that rick gates was interviewed more than any other single human by muellers team. And so if they want to know about things like the episode where Paul Manafort provides polling data to the russian employee, if they want to know about the interactions between the trump transition and kislyak, the russian ambassador, those are things that they are really going to get from hose two fact witnesses. They have held off really pushing for them until now because they didnt want the congressional investigation to interfere with the Mueller Investigation. But the Mueller Investigation is now over. And so they want to get that information on the record for themselves. Elliott, what does hope hicks bring to this conversation that we with dont already know from the Mueller Report . She kind of appears scattered through the report and we should point out that hicks is scheduled to appear in a closed session at the judiciary committee, not the intelligence committee. Like the line from hamilton the room where it happens, she was the person literally in the room at many times being so close to the president and can speak to perhaps the president s intent and so on. What the folks in the house lose is the public splashy moment because so much as you know having worked in congress around congress for a long time, so much of the benefit of doing things congressionally is the big theatrical moment, these hearings where you are putting on the record for the American People for the first time hearing hope hicks voice and they lose that. But she can corroborate information, help clarify information, certainly put the president in some peril. But again, when it is behind all closed doors in a political process, they sort of just dont get as much out of it publicly as they could. And what is your sense of what they can learn in private . I absolutely take elliotts point about the lack of it all occurring in public, but that said, she is one of the few people who agreed do this at all. Yeah, that is true. I think that she had more of a difficult road to object to appearing than others because she is sort served on the camp there is no legal argument that can be made that comments are subject to executive privilege. I would expect that the White House Counsels Office who we understand will send a representative to this session will still object to a lot of questions that she might get asked about her time in the white house. But we could hear about the campaign roz, so sorry. We have breaking news. The secretary of state is making remarks on the incident in oman, the oil tankers that exploded. Lets listen. Responsible for the attack that occurred in the gulf of oman today. This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar iranian attacks on shipping and the fact that no proxy Group Operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of so phisticatioso. This is only the latest in a series of attacks instigated by Islamic Republic of iran and its surrogates. And they should be understood in the context of 40 years of unprovoked aggression against freedomloving nations. So april 22, iran promised the world that it would interrupt the flow of oil through the strait of hormuz. It is now working to execute through that promise. In early may, covert deployment capable of launching missiles. On may 12th, four commercial ships near the strait of hormuz. May 14th, iran backed surrogates struck two oil mine linpipelinen the saudi arabia. On may 19, a rocket landed near the u. S. Embassy in baghdad. On may 31, a car bomb wounded four u. S. Service member, killed four afghan civilians and wounded bystanders. Yesterday surrogates struck the arrivals materiterminal airport injuring 26. Taken as a whole, these unprovoked attacks plenty a clear threat to International Peace and security, an assault on the freedom of and a half gafgs and and a half xwags of escalated attention. Prime minister abe made a historic trip to ask the regime to enter into talks. Iran Supreme Leader rejected Prime Minister abe diplomacy by saying that he has no response to President Trump and will not answer. The Supreme Leaders government then inultimate issed gentleman can pan by attacking a japanese oil tanker. Threatening the lives of the entire crew, creating a maritime emergency. Irans foreign minister today responded to these attacks. He said, quote, suspicious didnt begin to describe what likely transpired this morning, end of quote. And foreign minister sharif may think this is funny, but no one else in the world does. Iran is lashing out because of the regime wants successful maximum Pressure Campaign lifted. No economic sanctions entitle them to attack innocent civilians, disrupt oil markets anden gauge in nuclear blackmail. The International Community condemns irans assault. Today ive instructed our u. N. Ambassador to raise irans attacks in the u. N. Security Council Meeting later this afternoon. Our policy remains an economic and diplomatic effort to bring iran back to the negotiating table at the right time, to encourage a comprehensive deal that addresses the broad range of threats. Threats today apparent for all the world to see. To peace and security. Iran should meet diplomacy not with terror, blood shed and extorti extortion. The United States will defend its forces, interests and stand with our partners and allies to safe guard Global Commerce and regional stability. And we call upon all nations threatened by irans provocative acts to join us in that endeavor. Thank you. That was secretary of state mike pompeo laying blame with iran for those attacks in the straits of hormuz on oil tankers in the gulf of oman, that forced crew members to abandon ship of a temp each of the tankers caught fire. As you may have heard at the beginning there, the secretary of state blamed iran for that and also walked through a litany of other incidents that he said were also the iranians responsibility. He emphasized that he wants to continue with economic and diplomatic means of negotiating this, but it certainly suggests that there is an escalation here. Joining me from the white house, hans nichols and from iran, Tehran Bureau chief ali arouzi. Ali, let me start with you because id like to know what you heard from the secretary of state in terms of how belligerent or not his words were in terms of what this means for what has been a simmering confrontation between the United States and iran. Reporter well, it is certainly ratcheting up tensions. As we heard, is he laying the blame squarely on iran. He gave a long laundry list of what he believes iran has been conducting over the last month or so. This attack he blamed directly on iran. He said it couldnt have been any of irans proxies that did this because they dont have the technology on conduct such an act. So he is saying this was directly done by irans military forces or revolutionary guards. And it just didnt look like anything is going to resolve itself anytime soon. I mean there is not much left to sanction. So it begs the question if you want to put pressure on iran, what is the next move. There isnt much left to sanction. Also the japanese Prime Minister was here to mediate and iran was in no mood to mediate with america. The Supreme Leader said that the president was unworthy. Everything that comes out of trumps mouth is a lie and under no circumstances will iran negotiate with the United States. So in the absence of any dialogue, any diplomatic channel s with all the finger pointing, it makes this a very tense part of world with two adversaries going very hard at it right now. Now, rafrn iran is saying that have nothing to do with the attacks. And that iranians here are saying why would they attack a japanese tanker when the japanese Prime Minister is here having a meeting with the Supreme Leader trying to diffuse tensions. It is very confusing. Even confusing reports coming out about who rescued the crew members on board these two tankers. Fifth fleet saying that they went to the aid, iranians saying that they rescued 44 members of the crew and they put out a video of them drinking tea. So there is conflicting reports of who came to the rescue. There are conflicting reports of what have caused the damage. Some say that it may have been a torpedo, some saying it may have been a mine similar to the attacks on the four tankers which the u. S. Blamed iran for. So this is a very, very troubling set of circumstances. And it didnt look like it will resolve itself anytime soon as both sides seem to be digging in deeper. Now, it will be interesting to see what President Trump says, how deeply he blames iran. Places like france and germany are urging caution. They are saying that we should have a full investigation in to this to get to the bottom of exactly what caused the damage. That the debris needs to be gathered up and then traced back to its source. But it seems as if the state department has already made its determination. Highly combustible situation where no one can agree on a set of facts and obviously the stakes incredibly high. Hans, to pick up on alis point, he was talking abob the about t false lag idea and there was a tweet talking about attacks on japanrelated tankers while shinzo abe was meeting with the ayatollah for friendly talks. He says, quote, suspicious doesnt begin to describe what likely transpired this morning. So we have that tweet. And then the remarks from pompeo. And then a tweet from the president. Where do things stand from the white houses perspective . Do you get the sense that pompeo was going out there on behalf of the president . Yes. I is clearly saying it is Iranian Forces that are responsible for these attacks that happened earlier this morning. That is a serious grave charge. You also have an being a be knowledgement from pompeo that Prime Minister abe was carrying a mess a think from President Trump to restart negotiations. He acknowledged that the message was not well receive and was rejected by the ayatollah. So the u. S. Government acknowledging that they were attempting to have some sort of talks through shinzo abe. And now the tweet from the president saying i personally do not feel it is too soon to even think about talking. So we have what looks like the start of an attempt to open up a dialogue and that was shut down and this is what the attacks in theof oman by Iranian Forces and that is a sirs charge and well have to wait and see how it escalates. All right. Thank you both very much. Still ahead, we expect to hear who will be on the debate stage in miami just 13 days from now. The candidates are waiting on final word and so are we youll want to stick with us for that. But first, breaking news, a federal watchdog calls for the resignation of Kellyanne Conway. Office of special counsel, not to be confused with robert mueller, this is a Permanent Office that hams whistleblower complaints, they found that conway violated the hatch act on numerous occasions. The act prohibits Government Employees from engaging in Campaign Politics while at work. The report determined that conway violated the law by making disparaging comments while in official capacity as special counsel to the president. Joining me now to talk about this, elyise jordan and also anita kumar. Anita, lets start with what the white house hold to say. They claim that this whole thing is, quote, deeply flawed and violates Constitutional Rights to free speech and due process. This is the law of the land, it says that when you are a federal official, you cannot make political statements. Right. And i think the most important thing that the white house has said, they wont do anything about it, they wont reprimand her or discipline her in any way. Let alone remove her from office. But this is an organization that is part of the federal government that comes and goes whether it didnt matter who the president is. It is nonpartisan, it is independent. And they are saying that it has become a partisan office. The office will tell you that they have never country thdone about, so you know that it is pretty serious that they are doing this. Remember, Kellyanne Conway they said that she violated this last year when she got into talking about the Alabama Senate race. So this isnt the first time weve seen them saying this about her. And this is a line that everyone and youve worked in politics and very many different capacities. People are incredibly careful about this line. They know that they are not supposed to do this except apparently in the Trump White House. As with everything, the Trump Administration consistently shows that they have no problem flouting norms that exist so that taxpayer dollars are not funding partisan activity. When i was in the bush white house, we would get notices regularly reminding us that we could not do anything from our official vantage points to promote partisan political candidates. If we wanted to do it on our own time on the weekend, the hatch act allows for that, for Government Employees to have participate in Voter Registration drys, do things in their private hours. You are not supposed to be like Kellyanne Conway on the lawn of the west wing in front of the white house talking part soisan politics. And it is simply stunning that there will be absolutely no recourse for this a row issu trs behavior. And is so there anything in a any outside group can do if she has been determined to violate this . That is the complaint that lot of watchdog groups have, feel like it is no teeth to it 37 it is up to the president really to do something if it gets do him. If the office sends a letter to the president , it is up to him to decide whether she should be reprimanded, removed or anything else. So very difficult. Generally what happens in most cases, a letter, a warning letter. And that is not a trump thing, that is just the office feels like it is not significant enough to do more than just give a warning letter. So will is not much that can happen if the president doesnt want to. All right. Thank you both. Coming up next, the debates are an important moment for every 2020 contender, but especially fraught with risk for early frontrunner joe biden. That is coming up next. That is coming up next theyre americas biopharmaceutical researchers. Pursuing lifechanging cures in a country that fosters innovation here, they find breakthroughs. We are expecting to hear today who is going to actually officially make that debate stage in miami coming up in 13 days. The candidates are waiting on final word and so are we. For the early frontrunners like joe biden and Bernie Sanders, it is just a matter of which night they will appear. But for the lesser known contenders, the question is whether that they will qualify at all. Back with me is elysise jordan d joining us Adrienne Elrod. Let me start with you. We expect that this is going to be a contest potentially for the final slot on the stage. But i want on ask you about biden because he is not only got probably the most to lose, but also the person that all the others will want to take on. And that will be so fascinating because we will also know in the next 24 hours who will be on the stage in what night. So hicandidates will have two weeks to figure out my strategy, who do i go after, what points do i want to get across and go after the top tier candidates who i think will be my biggest threat to moving in to the top tier status. And for a lot of people, that person is joe biden. Also be interesting to see if candidates align, strategically figure out how to Work Together to take on joe biden or somebody else like Bernie Sanders who is also a top tier candidate. And we saw beto orourke make what was possibly the most pointed and most direct version of this argument against joe biden, democrats other democrats have frankly been more subtle about it. Listen to what beto orourke had to say on morning joe. Is joe biden a return to the past . He is. And that is not who we need to be going forward. You have you to ask yourself where joe biden is on the issues that are most important to you. Did he support the war in iraq that forever destabilized the middle east, does he really believe that women of lower income should be able to make their decisions about their own body, be able to afford health care in order to do that. He supported the Hyde Amendment 37. But hes switched. So pretty straightforward. But at the end of the day, what democratic voters tell us that they want the most is to beat donald trump and this doesnt seem like a productive way do it. At the end of the day, i may be wrong about this, but i will be shocked if joe biden gets the nomination. So in terms of strategy, i think that beto orourke should be attacking joe biden because he needs desperately to peel away the Percentage Points of voters who are backing joe biden and you are watching joe biden losing momentum and Elizabeth Warren is starting to peel away a lot of the Bernie Sanders supporters. Two months ago, beto welcomed biden into the race and as the stakes start to get hire and competing for a slot on the third debate stage, they have to start chipping in to other candidates joe bidens support. Yeah, Elizabeth Warren is way up above Bernie Sanders. And so do you degree with elyyo will biden lose . I agree60 on this. His name i. D. Is 99 . You are starting to see his support decline. So will the trend continue. And so i think it is left to be seen. All right. Thank you very much. Reminder that the first president ial debate in miami is just 13 days away, june 26 and 27. And it will be moderated by lester holt, savannah guthrie, rachel hoshadow, chuck todd. Coming up next, to be or not to be . A democratic socialist that is. Some reach a level of top safety pick. But only a select few of the very safest vehicles are awarded a top safety pick plus. The highest level of safety possible. How many 2019 top safety pick pluswinning vehicles does your brand have . And that is the difference between donald trump and me. He believes in corporate socialism for the rich and powerful. I believe in a democratic socialism that works for the working families of this country. Bernie sanders is the only 2020 democrat to openly embrace the label of democratic socialism. In an impassioned speech, he defend the his plit objeolitica objectives. But some of his virals dont share his future. Hickenlooper rebutted bernies vision. Democrats must say loudly and clearly that we are not socialists. Joining me now, shaquille brewster, Adrienne Elrod is still with us, and also democratic socialist lee carter. Just two days ago, he won his primary against a former republican running as a moderate democrat. Great to have you all on board for what is sure to be a defining conversation of the entire election cycle. And shaq, you have been out covering Bernie Sanders. We talked to you yesterday as bernie was giving that speech. This is obviously the argument that republicans are trying to make that basically writing off scaring voters saying that democrats are all socialists. And what you saw in hickenlooper, he not only gave a full rebuttal to what sanders had to say, but went after the specific policies that senator sand ertz and many sanders and many others are advocating for. Instead of the gregreen new d, he wants research and development. But he also said there was a purely political reason to run away from the label of socialism. Listen. Donald trump is the worst president our country has ever seen but defeating him is far from guaranteed. Democrats must present a bold agenda while at the same time being mindful that socialism is the most effective attack republicans can use against us. We must be progressive but also practici pragmatic. So im trying to take the pragmatic approach. And interesting that they both referenced fdr and teddy roosevelt. So although sanders was talking about democratic socialism and hickenlooper you heard them both call on similar figures in history. Hickenlooper, i think had a bit of trouble answering the question about whether he was a capitalist or not when joe sc scarborough pushed him on it. Congratulations on your prime wear win, but what have you learned in sort of experience in what has been historically a swing state that you think the candidates should know about. Virginia is a swing state, but my district had been held by republicans for over 40 years. My predecessor was a member of Republican Leadership who had essential unlimited corporate sponsorship he had been wins with about 9500 of course in his entire career, and on election day, i was ability to go out there and talk to thousands of workingclass folks who had checked out of the virginia politics for a very long time, and we got 11,366 people to the polls, by far the highest turnout for my democrat in a house 50 race that we have seen in living memory. This is the key. We have millions who have checked out of the process. If none of the above was a candidate in the 2016 election, none of the above would have won several states, the strategy of leaning into that attack, if youre to the left of barry goldwater, theyre going to call you josef stalin, and yes, here are the policies that will make your life better, were going to make sure you have the free do many to live and work and not have to worry about how to. Foot on the table or make the rent or see a doctor or put your kids through college. You make that case forcefully to people who have not traditionally voted, and they will show up, boo you they finally feel like they have a i remember in 2016 Hillary Clinton would say how do you pay for all those things . Bernie sanders struggled to listen to all of that, but is that killjoy politics going to work . First i think its smart that senator sanders made that speech. Hes trying to keep that Broad Coalition he was able to build in 2016 intact as humanly possible. Secondly when it comes to socialism versus capitalism, it made a lot of democrats squeamish, independent voters, too, to even think about the notion of a socialist system of government in place. That is why by the way, props to John Hickenlooper for going out and giving this speech today. Im surprised more candidates didnt try to draw a contrast, first of all, these the most press i think hes gotten and second of all, he was able to correct himself when he screwed up on the capitalist question on morning joe and lean into the fact hes a proud capitalist. Do you think itses possible for a absolutely not. Absolutely i do. In fact i think its necessary to win this general election. What we saw in 2016 is that donald trump was going out there and correctly identifying that there were things wrong with the lives of workingclass people and then giving ar an incorrect answer. Your life is getting worse because of folks getting into this country. We need to go out there and tell them, yes, there is a problem in our economy, but its not your friends and neighbors. Its not immigrants, its not transfolks. The problem is from the top and we are going to fix that. The question for folks oppose to do Bernie Sanders is do they want to beat donald trump or not. If they want to, they will support him. Im so sorry we have to leave it there. Thank you guys very much. One more thing before we go. The womens world cup is under way in france. Team usa is already riding high with a 130 win over thailand theyre making headlines over the court battle for fair play the best womens soccer team in the world is played less than the mens team. On march 8th, the u. S. Women as National Team filed suit against the United States soccer organization. Their suit claims that from 2013 to 2016, if a male and female National Team play each played 20 exhibition games in a year, men of the mens squad will have earned more than 250,000. Members of the womens squad . Less than 100,000. Its not just that theyre making less than the men. They are making less despite beginning to bring in more revenue to u. S. Soccer than the men. The u. S. Soccer federation says its misleading and inaccurate to pay that, because the two teams simply cant be compared, but its not entirely clear why. As New York Times highlights, quote, this is true in at least once sense. The women are way, way better. Since the fifa womens world cup was inaugurated in 1991, the United States has won three of the serve titles. Since womens soccer became an olympic sport in 1996, they have won four of six gold medals. Its been ranked number one by fifa for ten of the last 11 years. The mens team didnt even qualify for the world cup and they havent won an olympic gold medal in over a century. Because of how well 9 womens team performed, they played 19 more games than the men. In other words the women arent working as hard ar theirs male counterparts, theyre working harder for less. That wraps things up for us this hour.
