And i think it actually unifies the Republican Party if hes able to pick people of course, loyalists he has already appointed but also people who really criticized him very harshly on the campaign trail. This is something that i think is very political, very unfair. Look, he is a good man. He will be confirmed. And he deserves it. Will this response be sufficient for those opposing this appointment . Certainly not. I think Jeff Sessions is going to be among many controversial picks in the potential trump cabinet. Jeff sessions i think is going to be right at the top. Not only because of who he is and past stances he has had. But because of how important the post of attorney general is, especially over things like Voting Rights and civil rights, which democrats and opponents of Jeff Sessions say he is completely on the wrong side of those issues. In 1986, he was denied a federal judgeship, the senate did not confirm him because he admitted to making some racially insensitive comments. Now he will be put in charge of the agency that oversees a lot of the laws that are meant to protect africanamericans and other minority communities and their rights. Thats going to be a huge issue for democrats. They themselves undid the filibuster in 2013 when they were facing opposition to oboe obamas appointments. They have other means to try to slow down the procedure in the senate. If they cant block it entirely. Certainly, in the press and they will take the message to the public to try to block him. We have not seen one republican who has said theyre going to oppose Jeff Sessions. Certainly, being part of the senate club helps him. A democrat from West Virginia, who is up in 2018, has indicated he is going to back him. Is he going to get a lot of votes, 60, 70 votes, maybe not. But is he going to get 51 plus . Yeah. There are reports that donald trump met with three Indian Business partners last week. The Trump Organization is telling the New York Times im quoting here it was not a formal meeting of any kind. What concerns is this raising . Yeah. This is going to be a huge issue i think for the Trump Administration not just in the beginning but throughout. And its a lot of the same issues that were talked about with Hillary Clinton and the clinton foundation. If she became president. We paid less attention to this on trumps side. He has broken with past precedent, for president elects to put their Business Holdings in a blind trust, which means they have no control over it. Will trump be xcompelled to create clearer er boundaries . I think he will have to. Without a doubt, i think trump will have to set some clear boundaries and get some clearance from government officials who look into this. This is unprecedented territory. Well, i think a lot of us feel that. I dont think anybody feels that hillary didnt work hard. She worked very hard and was everywhere. But i think the campaign didnt send her into areas where there were problems. They sent her into areas where we were going to well to try to stroke up the turnout. I think we should have been in those areas, those blue collar areas like she did in the primary. When she went into West Virginia and talked to the coal min mine who were not going to vote for her. She may not have gotten 50 of those coal miners but she may have gotten 10 . If she had gotten 10 in the red counties in pennsylvania, michigan and wisconsin, if she had gotten 10 more, she still would have lost those counties, but close enough to have carried all three of those states. Could acting in opposition to a majority Republican Congress and white house actually be effective . Should they look for Common Ground . I think we should do both. They were waving white flags. They were flooding out of the neighborhood to reach safety. Its a very slow and difficult fight in large part because Islamic State fighters have mortars, sniper fire and the very feared suicide bomb attacks. They often like to use the tactic of car bombs. In order to illustrate sort of how challenges and how terrifying this fight can be, i want to pull up a clip for you of another fight thats taking place very close to mosul. There are iraqi shia militias that have been fighting for this area. This is freshly released footage from the militia groups about how dangerous is fight is on the ground. Its a little shaky, but you see the soldiers are running away from what is apparently a car bomb a suicide car bomber racing towards those soldiers, rushing towards them. They are shooting in the air. They are screaming. This car bomb there you see it. They have basically fired a missile at it. It went off avoiding casualties. This is again as i was saying 40 miles away from mosul. You can imagine that happening inside a densely populated urban area. Theres a lot of potential for civilian casualties. Thats why they have to go so slowly. They cannot go in fully with that air power, with the guns blazing to have to be careful because of the civilian potential casualties. Its a delicate situation. Thank you. What to make of Donald Trumps meeting with mitt romney and whether the nominee has the appetite to reenter politics. My conversation with a former romney adviser, thats next. [ the meeting with mitt romney itself though i will tell you was a very good meeting. It was gracious and personable. It was very sincere. And it was productive. So i dont we dont know where it will lead right now. But i can tell you that it was a great first step. Was yesterdays meeting to mend fences or was this to set us up for when the Campaign Announces that governor romney will be the next secretary of state . Before the meeting happened, it was unclear whether it was just a formality or whether this is a serious job interview. The early signs here based on comments from governor pence and Reince Priebus and from president elect trump is that it was a good meeting. Governor romney is under active consideration, which i think is a good thing actually not only for both men but for the United States. Governor romney i think is widely respected. He is trusted. Americans like him. Its also he is somebody who is pretty wellknown to our allies. It would be an encouraging step, i think, as the president elect fills out his cabinet. It was a long meeting, lasting 80 minutes. With these talks of him being considered for secretary of state, there are critics though asking whether he has Foreign Policy experience. Whats your reaction to that . I think if you go back and look at his book in 2010, its very Detailed Analysis of his Foreign Policy beliefs and his assessment of the world. A lot of his judgments that he rendered on Foreign Policy issues in 2012 have been proven right. He was right about russia. He was right about he saw what was going to happen, i think, with isis pretty early. He made a number of predictions, i think, around terrorism and around geopolitical threats that the United States faces that have been proven right. Any president would be well served to have somebody like governor romney providing advice, even when they dont agree. If he were chosen as secretary of state or asked to serve in another capacity, if you will, what can you see romney not falling in line on . I think that anybody who serves the president owes the president loyalty. And i think that if certainly, you provide as much advise and counsel as you can. The United States the americans elect a president. Thats the agenda you have to advance. I think having worked for a president and for a secretary of state, i think its important to have a range of views. And you dont want to have i think its good to have diversity in your cabinet, intellect intelle intellectual and policy diversity. The president makes the decision and everybody gets behind it. I think that Something Like governor romney, even though they have had disagreements, theres enough Common Ground there where i think that they could have a productive working relationship. I wanted to ask about you that. It was so ugly from both sides during the campaign. Romney calling trump a phony and fraud. Trump saying that he choked like romney choked like a dog. Who stands to gain more with a reconciliation . Secretary romney or trump . Who wins here . You are absolutely right. They had a very ugly primary season. So did Hillary Clinton and be a are a being O Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. So did many before them. Its natural after an ugly primary for Party Leaders to come together and try to fine Common Ground. I think thats why the meeting went on so long is because these are two Party Leaders. Donald trump was the party leader for this cycle. Mitt romney was for 2012. So this is the apex of the Republican Party. Good that theyre coming together and trying to find a way to work together. As i said, based on the comments you showed at the top of the segment, there are some inkoer raji encouraging signs. The question is, how does governor romney meet with trump after such scathing criticism . How does that occur between two men who really had a lot to say . I know we talk about mending fences and this and that. Take us inside that. I remember Winston Churchill said in victory magna anymorety. Its good to show that after you win an election. Donald Trump Inviting him to come over, greeting him on the steps, giving him a lot of time to talk about the challenges that america faces around the world. I think thats a positive thing. Its good for america. Its good for donald trump. Can there really be trust there after all thats been said . Besides the pleasantries and trying to, like you say, come and listen and whatnot, can there be trust after words were said about each other that were can get in a primary. This meeting is better than no meeting is the best one can say right now. Certainly, president elect trump could have declined the olive branch and romney could have said, i wont come and meet with you. The fact that they both tried to find a way to talk and explore Common Ground i think is a good thing. We saw it when barack obama brought in Hillary Clinton as his secretary of state. She said things about him. He said things about her dur rg t during the primary. The nice quality about america is that Party Leaders find a way to come together. Its all about moving forward.
