The first gold medal of the games overall went to an american and what a surprise it was. Just 19 years old. I sat down with her late last night. Lets just say, im not sure she slept at all last night she was so excited. Take a listen. And when you found out that you have won the gold, can you even describe what went through your mind . No, i really cant. Its so overwhelming and for me to be able to stand on the podium obviously hear a nations anthem and be red white and blue it instills a sense of pride. And then theres brady, jake and zach. These guys are archers. In the olympics or the United States where membership in archery is 366 and they took silver from an absolutely perfect if they decide they dont want to be archery anymore. They could do stand up. Donald trump touched down in New Hampshire where the latest poll was trailing Hillary Clinton by 17 points. And she quote short circuited when asked recently about a private email server. It amazes me actually. I dont think she is all there. When i watched that interview, when i watched the interview that she did on fox, i said, boy, this is going to be a massive, massive scandal and Nothing Happened and then three days later it was a delay. If i ever did that interview, they would have me terminate my run. Im telling you. Thats how bad this thing was. But clintons short circuit moment doesnt seem to have hurt her. The former secretary of state and their running mate tim kaine widened their lead to 8 points nationally and the green party formally nominated its candidate at the Convention Last night in houston. In her acceptance speech she took a moment to thank another outside candidate to say this. Lives on the outside of the democratic party. We owe you such a debt of gratitude for getting the revolution going and refusing to be shutdown. Its so exciting to run with you and for you. Up next on the campaign schedule, Hillary Clinton heads to florida for several events and he is shated to deliver a speech on his economic plan. And even though this may resinate with his base of support, the question is whether he can grow the pie. Whether people that are are undecided or are on the fence will respond to. And given the polls now and we see that more with Hillary Clinton. How concerned are they about that. We have our own internal polling showing that its closer and b talking about its august. Three months tomorrow until election day as were all counting down but there is some tile before people they believe start really paying attention. You the olympics and people on vacation getting ready for school and folks outside the campaign say he has a little bit of a window to try to make the turn even though we keep talking about a pivot donald trump has shown how he will be and how he will act. That is the balance from the democratic poll but keep in mind that donald trump had a rough, rough, rough week and its interesting that he said last night in New Hampshire how the republicans would have fired him if he made a similar comment to the one that hilary made on Fox News Sunday given that he did motte capitalize on the remarks, he fuelled his own controversy with the kahn family and that goes to the point where its like the republicans are going to fire him for going after Hillary Clinton for making that gap and we havent seen the polls since Hillary Clinton fuelled her own fire orphaned the fire yesterday when he made the comment about short circuiting in that interview with Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace and i think that, you know, in a few weeks well see polls even out a little bit and where the candidates are in terms of getting back computer on message and on track. Is this the turning point but other people are saying this is right and now its reflected in the polls as well. I think what you have seen to some degree democrats tell me they found the special sauce in being able to get underneath Donald Trumps skin so theyre going to try to get him as off message as they can with things like the kahns bringing up issues or people to attack him because he can never leave an attack unanswered. Even if he is supposed to be focussing on Hillary Clinton and the economy or job numbers or other things he just cannot let it go so the dem rattic strategy from here until election day is going to be okay were going to bring in all of these people that are essentially going to attack donald trump and talk about how unfit he is or all the problems and issues with all of his statements he said, people that are unimpeachable and theyre going to sit back and watch as he spends the next four days each time attacking those people and defending himself instead of talking what he should be talking about which is attacking Hillary Clinton and ro looking at policy and job numbers. When it comes to all of these threats and the missed opportunity when were referring to a New York Times article it calls donald trump the best thing that happened to the democrats. Do you agree with that. If you look at the recent polling Hillary Clinton is up. We can attribute that to the Democratic Convention bounce. We can attribute it again to the gaps that trump is making on the trail but at the same time look at the numbers consistent and both candidates consistently are seen as untrustworthy and when you have 60 ratings as being not trustworthy or honest it could go either way. I talked to one democratic congressman recently that said donald trump is the republican nominee so that means either i could be, you know, were done, and or i can be a Committee Chairman next year and this say democratic member of the house so its, you know, up in the air. Today several polls show substantial leads and those numbers prove to be more than just a federal post convention bounce by november. Soft clinton supporters on the left may feel liberated especially in the deep red and blue states. So do you agree with that assessment . And how does she hang on to her voters as well by reeling in the others as well . Well, third Party Candidacies are a problem on both sides of the aisle right now. You also have gary johnson running for the libertarian ticket and has this Campaign Based out of utah. And because donald trump is so unpopular with mormons in utah that he has a good shot atsawining that state. Jill stein draws a lot of support from Hillary Clinton and thanks to the bernie revolution still on going where theres a lot of disgruntled democrats on the left that dont like Hillary Clinton and dont want to vote for her. She isnt very much an environmental candidate and it is the green party and thats not an issue that hugely resounds in particular states like the southern states. I havent seen a lot of Environmental Concerns or support particularly in a lot of the deep red states so well see where the polling comes from. Thats a prevailing attitude that seems to be emerging so this race is not over and we have three months to go but youre seeing politicians that are the most realistic and are polling daily, theyre seeing that the trump misqueues can drag them down and republicans dont want to lose the house and the senate. You mention everything in a drop and a bucket that Hillary Clinton is spending. Especially in ads. You have to look at the battleground states. The popular vote is important but the states like new mexico, nevada, colorado, a large hispanic population in florida and then you go into the midwest. Ohio, pennsylvania, and you go into wisconsin. I see the lead of Hillary Clinton increasing and those are going to decide the Electoral College and were three months away but the way trump is out of control in terms of this message taking on the gold star mothers, not endorsing paul ryan and leaders of his own party, this is a race and it doesnt point to finding ways that trump can get to the 270 votes they win. Speaking to that and the new poll from the southwest. And it shows these numbers here. 45 for Hillary Clinton. Donald trump at 43 . Statistical dead heat in arizona. Its been a red state since 1996. If she is ahead in a state like that, what does that say . Well, like you take arizona. This is traditionally been a republican state and now its going a little bit toward Hillary Clinton. 25 latino and building a wall and i think youre seeing that all over the southwest in these small states that are not getting the attention they deserve like arizona, colorado, nevada, new mexico, that high latino populations and that is closing off to donald trump very quickly. Does it take latino voters seriously or that they would automatically vote democrat. I take them seriously because i had the great privilege of working for many years with latino leaders, activists, business men and women. I dont take any voter for granted and i particularly dont take any voter that was placing their trust and confidence in me for granted. So when it comes to those latino voters im with her enthusiastically or will it be more im antitrump and shes the other option. I think it will be enthusiastic to clinton and its an antitrump view and i think tim kaine is a very good choice. You have to go with votes that you get and very much is in play. Hes an attractive candidate. I think her positions on education and carries most about education and not just immigration but its the key immigrations and comprehensive immigration reform. And deal with the Central American refugees in a more sensible matter and find ways to bring him into the white house staff she has a good record there and so does Hillary Clinton. Always good to chat with you and delving into this poll, it shows that Hillary Clinton is at that 50 mark. Lets talk about the reason behind it, is it the Convention Bump or Donald Trumps week or something more . Its the bump and measuring the full impact of the republican and Democratic Conventions. Coupled with some of their early problems that donald trump had last week. And what do you think that can shift that as far as, you know, staying on message and how long can she ride it, i guess i should say. People are checking out. School shopping, last minute summer plans and the olympics so this is a good time to have a lead that potentially stays high throughout the month of august. Unless theres a major gap or a major issue. In our polling of course we polled ohio during the Republican Convention and pennsylvania during the democratic and then we released on thursday our florida poll and our florida poll showed a 6 point lead in the two way race 38 to 42 for Hillary Clinton with the rest being undecided. So not as dramatic of a lead as some of the other polls citing 10, 12, 15 point leads and florida is one of the key states that could decide the election. Were talking about 48 to 42 with Hillary Clinton leading by the 6 point margin too there. When it comes to her supporters in florida, can you break down who is behind hilary and onhe other side who is behind trump as far as a break down in those numbers. Sure, among women, Hillary Clinton was winning 50 to 38. Thats a big number in southern florida. Big margins as you would expect in the miami dade and Broward County efforts. And the ticket splitting. Weve seen donald trump losing by six points and we saw marco rubio winning by 13 points. And trump wins them by 9. And trump loses minority voters by 46 points and we have a major difference in terms of people differentiating between both the president and the senate and also interesting when it comes to the issue we have been seeing time and time again the trustworthiness issue the majority of americans have those issues with the former secretary of state and trustworthy and 36 find donald trump honest and trustworthy. How unusual is it for both of these candidates to fair so poorly in trustworthiness or is this expected given the fact when it comes to popularity given the worst weve seen if both sides in history. Its unprecedented. Ive never seen a situation where you have two president ial candidates with unfavorable ratings over 50 . We have been asked in the ohio and pennsylvania polls after the fbi made its ruling on the emails whether or not people thought Hillary Clinton should be indicted and even in that question it was breaking 50 50 so the trust issues on both ends carried through the polling right into personal popularity where the unfavorable ratings are so high. Because of that we have voters looking at the outside. Neither democrats or republicans so theyre looking green and libertarian. Hillary clinton with 45 . Trump with 36 and Geary Johnson with 8 and she accepted her partys domination and as we were talking about theyre undecided there here so when it comes to those up for grabs how much could the impact of these smaller parties have on outcome overall and who really has the most to win or lose given that. Ill tell you what i thought was an interesting finding in the in a fla poll which was the post conventions poll was that that 6 point lead shrinks to four points, 43 to 39 when you introduce the libber tarn aerta green party candidates. That number jumped to 7. Stein was getting 7 among 18 to 34s in florida. Both of those tie anonymousics are cancelling each other out right now. Be stein or johnson were to rise into the high or Single Digits in florida such that the 18 or 34 year olds or independents were a 10 or 12 then they could have a major impact on the race. If they dont start making inroads and they cant be 99 to 1 with people of color. That is a horrible number. He has to make end roads and go further. And he has time to do it. Did he shift waste it last week . He wasted it but he had a horrible week and that doesnt mean he cant come out it and democrats should be resting on their laurels. And clinton unfavorable at 50 , what does she do to drive that number down. Do what shes been doing all along, after her campaign, her convention, where they painted this distopian view of the country and her view was more aspirational and i say president ial campaigns are about growth and appealing to the aspirations of voters and i think the campaign did that and is consistently doing and will talk more concretely about her policies going forward. And what susan said is very important, for trump supporters, they are solidly behind him no matter what we say. This is called a confirmation bias. And i dont know if there is any bringing supporters from trump to her, but based on sort of independents, the Bernie Sanders support, the fact that the president has really good approval numbers right now, all of that is about her growing her base. And lets not forget going to your point about her high negatives, which trump has, every time she talks about her emails is not a good day. She didnt have the answer again last sunday and now with the leak of the dnc emails in october surprise through wikileaks it is a constant struggle for Hillary Clinton and that is what is hurter her unfavorable number and the conversation of emails going through november. And here is the thing and you spoke on this, baz ill, up 6 points, highest since january and how does he take advantage when trump is still trying to get over this hump of this tough week and who knows what is down the road. And the chair of the dnc said it in a tweet, while trump is doing what he did, Hillary Clinton is actually running for the president of the United States. And i think going from state to state, as she did to factors factories, and addressing the anxiety that trump has tried to do in his campaign but addressing it in a way that moves the needle quite a bit going forward. I think that is what shes been doing and needs to continue to do to increase her favorablity. And when you look at both candidates having both high unfavorable numbers, it is a referendum. If as a referendum on trump, Hillary Clinton wins and if it is a referendum on Hillary Clinton, it is good for trump. And people behind him, manford and weve heard about that with the reports of the turmoil, mailing it in, staff is suicidal if that is true, is it done or this is the tweet that came out. A campaign is a challenging thing and it is like a marriage, you never know exactly what is going on unless you are in it. And that being said, well hear reports on the hillary and the trump side but what the Campaign Needs to do is find some way of expecting that this is the candidate that trump is and how to best maneuver with what they have more work with what they had. And i think you started to see that. With the endorsement of ryan and john mccain, tepid and scripted as it was. Without the presence of either. I think it is their campaigns attempt to try to extract a modicum of traditional strategy. Whether that works going forward, i dont know. And were talking about when it comes to minority voters and all important there and Hillary Clinton was at the National Convention of black and hispanic journalists and asked about minority votes and here is how she responded. I dont take any voter for granted. And i particularly dont take any voter who is placing their trust and confidence in me for granted.
