Thats why we continue with some of these warnings in the area. We have 34 in philadelphia, 34 millville, 34 in wilmington, 32 degrees in trenton and it is not raining or snowing or anything else through allentown, developed temperatures well below the freezing mark, anything out there has frozen. We continue with our winter storm warnings in philadelphia until 9 00 this morning, and there is a freezing rain advisory south of that, notice the purple color, and thats through Atlantic Cumberland and kent county, that is where youre going to be finding the possibility of some freezing rain, and i think really any place that youre out this morning, with these temperatures, the way they are, so close to freezing, you just dont know whether it is ice or just wet assuming it ice, because in many cases thats exactly what it is. By noon, were at 38 degrees, hoping to get to 40 degrees today, and maybe 41, too in some spots but in some spots all a stop in the upper 30s, in any case, we push out this weather, and were going to be looking for some breaks in this action, by the time we get to 10 00 oclock this morning, with some sunshine, hopefully, starting to find this little bit. We do find these temperatures above freezing today, that will help, but there is a refreeze coming, we drop down to 19 degrees tonight. How cold will tomorrow be . Will it be dry . Well answer those questions coming up. Nicole . All right carol thank you. Well that winter storm that carol was just mentioning has left its mark across the delaware vale, shovels out in full force as the clean up slowly began last night. And snow quickly covering roads, creating treacherous conditions weve been mentioning all morning long this cab fishtailing down market street. Also slip have i for people walking as well as the snow began changing over to freezing rain and im sure thats also the case this morning. Our eye on the storm coverage continues on kelly drive now. From snow, to freezing rain, to just plane rain, residents are waking to up wintery mess this morning. Cherry gregg from sister station kyw news radio 1006 is live now with an update on conditions. Good morning cherry, how is it looking right now . Good morning, nicole. Looking little bit better, looking little better, starting to wake up here, on kelly drive. We saw less than handful of runners, diehard running through the slippery slush here. And you can really slip and slide here because that snow and that ice rain sort of turned sidewalks into pretty much a sheet of ice. And it is very dangerous they actually brought plow out. Crews have been out overnight, treating the roads a lot of the main roads most of the main roads have, been treated but the side streets are still pretty bad. Do you have drive slone you can just slide right through a stop sign, or red light. And youre walking along the sidewalks, you have to be careful, because there are these big ice puddles along the curb line, and at the end of every street. And back here, live, as people are sort of getting dressed for church, i would say, glove weather, scarf weather hat weather, even though i dont have a hat on, and definitely boots. Because as you can see, it is very icy and these cars are just sort of slipping, but big ice puddles here, so this is definitely not something that the ladies want to wear heals with, and as far as the men i wouldnt wear dress shoes i would just wear boots something with a rugged bottom. Because you do not want to slip and fall on your way to church. I mean, there would be a loft prayers being said if you get there, and youre a little sore, so be careful as you walk and good luck this morning. Live on kelly drive, cherry graying, kyw news radio, Eyewitness News. Thanks for the heads up, we appreciate it. And of course were not the only ones dealing with a winter mess this weekend. A sad update for you now on the story we first told you about yesterday morning on Eyewitness News. We now know two children died in a house fire, in orange, new jersey. One of those children is being called a hero, for helping her brother escape the flames. Steve langford from our sister station cbs2 in new york has the details. We looked up. It was two kids up there. Young children, trapped on the third floor of this home, as the fire roars, their only hope to jump. So they was waiving. So we like yo jump, you know what i mean, they aint jump, but the little sister she threw her brother out. Darryl mayfield said he helped catch the little boy as he tumbled to safety. I felt the heat here, so i can just imagine like what they were going through. There are, in fact, two more children still left on the third floor in the middle of this inferno, six year old jada, and zion just a year old. Blaze, kept blazing out everybody just started going crazy, yelling, because the other kids was still in the house. She put her little brother out, and she like disappeared back into the fire. Perhaps out of fear, perhaps because she couldnt leave her baby brother behind, both perished in the third floor bedroom. Their mother had just left for the bus station to visit relatives down south witnesses say. They called at the bus station, she came back. And she freak out like. The fire so powerful the home now set to be demolished. We are no less than five people in the house, and i believe three were treated at the hospital at saint barn bus hospital for burn wounds, wounds associated with jumping out of the window, a well. That was my bedroom right there at the top right there in the front. Tara williams at the scene the morning after because she and her sister had once lived in the same house. If you were trapped on the third floor in a fire in that house, what would it be like . I would be dead. Heart break for two little children, one of whoms last act was pushing her brother to safety, in orange, new jersey, steve langford, cbs2 news. Oh so, so sad. We do have breaking news to share with you, in cheney, delaware county. Fire rips through dormatory at cheney university. Student were awake ends to sirens, smoke detectors, going off inside that building around 6 30 this morning. This picture was posted to twitter by a student there shows smoke billowing out of the building, you can see there, firefighters though we want to mention are on scene right now so far there are no reports of any injuries. We will update you on the story, as new details come into the cbs3 news room. Right now, though, two alarm fire at apartment complex, forces dozens out into the cold in lindenwold, camden county. Flames tore through the Emerald Ridge amounts on gibbsboro road 3 00 yesterday morning. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof of that building. They were able to quickly contain the fire, despite battling the extreme cold. Try and just do the best we can do, with what we have at that time. Luckily, the winds have died down, so that wasnt a contributing factor. Four units were damaged and there were no injuries. So some good news there. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The cold weather is to blame for a water main break in philadelphias Port Richmond neighborhood. After hours of repairs service was restored to around 100 homes on the 30hundred block of tulip street. It snapped just before 9 00 yesterday morning. Water poured into the basement of at least ten homes there. This is a brutal time of year, you know, certainly the temperatures not helping the water temperature going through the mains is extremely cold breaking many mains around the city. And, you know, we ask for patience as we get out there and make repairs as quickly as we can. The red cross helped families displaced by that water main break. 8 10 right now. Snow ice rain, little bit of everything pretty much over the past 24 hours. Carol is coming back to tell us when that wet weather will come to an end and also, about an arctic blast as they call it, making a come back for the work week. Going to be chilly yet again. Well be right back. Many of the Eyewitness News viewers sent in favorite photos from saturdays storm john in cherry hill had busy evening of shovel, you can see the shovel there all burried in that snow. And now hes just waiting for the rain to wash the snow away. And hey look at this eyewitness pick from ann in bellmawr. She says, when it snows, why not make snow art . Still kids had plenty of fun, turnersville, gloucester county, were having a blast in their snow tubes. Getting some good speed there too. And remember, we do love to connect with you and have you connect with us, during winter storms. You pretty much help us tell the story. So sends in your snow photos, your videos, and also, always use the hashtag cbs3 storm. Right now, we send it over to carol for more on this mess. Carol . Well, were on the improving trends. We have an improved we havent improved yet nicole, but on that path. Look how cloudy it is, however. Those clouds are low over the city of philadelphia, weve got some snow, weve got some ice on the ground, and it looks like a winter wonderland, particularly out in kutztown. Look at this. 26 degrees, at the kutztown area middle school. But, pretty look, if you like that wintery look. Who does this time of the winter. But, many people might. 26 degrees, the temperature out there. Gray skies also, in kutztown, we need to brighten these skies up. Now, one thing that were finding, the rain thats falling now is starting to leave the area. It is still here, however so be very careful where ever you are. Driving through south jersey, and even through philadelphia, or points north and west, where youre not looking at any precipitation actually, falling right now the grounds is already frozen, weve already seen rain through there, weve seen snow, and thats a problem obviously ann evans has been talking about it all morning, if you walk out your door, you probably have encountered it, as women. Twentyseven in allentown, 30 in reading. 34 degrees out at the airport in philadelphia, it is 32 trenton, 33 degrees in wilmington. Temperatures are too close to the freezing mark, for anybodys comfort. Two things to get from this, though, as we wide then view out. Notice, how much warmer the air is to the south. We would like to tap into some of that. But, look how cold it is back to the west. Were going to be slightly warmer today and then our weather tomorrow, coming from this direction and it will be cold again. Upper teens tonight through philadelphia, and only in the twos tomorrow for highs. The 24hour temperature change, these arent the temperatures right now. This is the change in the temperature in the last 24 hours. It is 18 degrees warmer here in philadelphia, it is 30 degrees warmer in millville, right now than it was yesterday morning at this point. Obviously, the air mass did warm up. It is the ground that hasnt done anything. And the ground has remained frozen, and thats why we continue with the winter storm warning through the philadelphia area until 9 00 this morning and the freezing rain advisory for Atlantic Cumberland and kent county down in delaware. This is again until 9 00 because even though the air is starting to warm up, the ground is very slow to follow. So we will be finding the threat of the freezing rain continuing. The rain itself starts to move out of here, do we see it at 11 00 this morning . Cold night tonight. Tomorrow doesnt look all that bad. Just in the 20s, tuesday also, in the 20s. But, today the warmest day that were going to be finding. Hopefully get temperatures to 40 degrees, little bit later on this afternoon which will help shoveling some of the slushy heavy snow that is out there . Fortytwo, 32 in the poconos remember first thing this morning, that we do have that freezing rain in spots the temperatures too close for comfort, take it easy, 40 degrees for our temperature, tonight, we drop down to 19 degrees. Chill down the next couple every days, but quieter around here. Twentyfive tomorrow afternoonment monday night into Tuesday Morning 7 degrees, we are really into it again, 26 on tuesday wednesday, we could be at 38 degrees thursday, 25, but it is just going to be cold around here. The cold last 67 years seems like, really, had a lot of cars frozen solid. And, you know what that does . It makes a business at triple a red hot. What is under that black cover, the battery the key to starting your car. Will it be go or no . No crank, or you have slow cranking, or sometimes you just have nothing. Nothing but a car with a dead battery. But the Record Number of them this week for triple a midatlantic doesnt have to be your ride. Some tips when you park it for the night you should cut the heat off, if you have wiper blades on, cut it off and cut the radio off. Needing jumps indicates a battery about to totally call it quits. Triple a says new battery costs around 130. The price to pay to avoid the other price. And if your car has needs add jump start you really need to Pay Attention to. That will and in any case, i think the advice, whats turning off all of the accessories, radio wipers, that sort of thing and check the dome light f there is even trunk light on or anything that can drain the battery in the cold, 0 degrees, we will be finding temperatures even negatives sometimes. Yes. The battery already has lost 606 of its power. So something to Pay Attention to. Good reminder. Oh, it is. To be proactive. Because, you know, i always wait until something happens and then thats the last thing you. The in this casino of weather. You dont want to be stranded. Carol, thank you. Lets check in with ann on the roads and the highways, good morning, ann. Good morning, icy conditions even on our major highways, even though theyve been treated we have the rain falling, you heard carols forecast, she said there is a threat of freezing rain continuing, and we do have foggy conditions as well with grounds so frozen, there is that threat of icy conditions. Now, case in point here, 95, between the vine street expressway and penns landing southbound lanes right in the middle your screen accident cleared from here, but icy conditions, folks really taking their time. Could you see in the area highways, wills good, thats what do you have do this morning. Take your time, if you are out and about. Having swept the season so far, jewel inane moore is the frontrunner for best actress playing a woman with altzheimers in still alice. Rosamon pike, player iaian and Reese Whitherspoon round out the category. Oh, my god. Strong female performances are getting academy kudos in the acting cat gore ills. No. Uhhuhhuh lets check in with carol for more on the slop risker slippery mess. It is every weekends, too. It is enough already. But, were sort of closing out this one, this morning with just the remnants of the storm system that dumped between three and as much as almost 7 inches of snow in our area. We pick up 4. 8 inches of snow in philadelphia, the most that weve seen anyone day in the philadelphia area, this winter. Now, center city, it is even gloomier looking, i didnt even think it was possible, but it is. Look how much lower the fog is right now. It is way down on those buildings. And the roads well, theyre not great. So be careful out there. Weve got temperature in center city of 34 degrees. Out in reading looking at temperatures below the freezing mark. It has pick up snow there too. You can see it is still there. Storm scan3 this is moving out, so it is rain now. The atmosphere has warmed up the air temperatures are trying to get above the freezing mark, the problem is the ground has decided to just stay a little colder. Thats why some of what you are seeing is coming in freezing on the surface thats called freezing rain, and be careful out there. Even in areas where you are not looking at any rain coming down also an area where the grounds is already frozen, and frozen precipitation, on top of that. You can be slipping and sliding, weve been listening to ann evans this morning talk about a lot of problems on the roads secondary roads and your own walkway. Thirtyfour in philadelphia, right now back down to 32, in trenton, 34 wilmington, 34 millville, Atlantic City, those are the areas where it is currently finding precipitation coming down. And thats one of the reasons that the Winter Weather alerts continue through philadelphia, our areas of south jersey, as well and thats until 9 00. And there is a freezing rain advisory, in the area shaded in purple. That is for atlantic, cumberland, and kent counties. And thats again until 9 00. Be super careful out there. Eventually we should be getting to around 40 degrees. Some breaks in the skies should be coming later on today. Above freezing, at least but for now take it easy, assume whatever you see wet is also frozen. Nicole . All right carol thanks. Our eye on the storm coverage continues on kelly drive right now wintery mix of course creating icy conditions on sidewalk and roadways this morning. As you head out the door, just want to take your time. Cherry gregg from our sister radio station, kyw news radio 1060, live with an update. And cherry, you said good day to leave the stilettos at home. Break out the boots . Leave the stilettos at home. Break out the boots with the rugged bottoms. Make sure you dont slip and fall. Because, it is a slippery mess out here. If you look around, there is ice puddles at the ends of the sidewalks, there are mounds every ice, and pretty much sidewalk itself is an ice slick. You can kind of see that it has been broken up little bit. There was a plow that came through, and moved this snow around. But it is to has been pretty bad. If you look to the roads crews have been out overnight , treating roadways, the main areas the main roads, have been treated fairly well. But those side streets are still pretty bad. And as folks are sort of slipping and sliding on the sidewalks, they have to skip over these puddles and these mounds every ice but it is still very, very dangerous conditions. I spoke to norm, hes been working, here, and hell describe what he has seen. Somewhat icy out here, but really beautiful out here. Nice day no breeze, really nice, just little icy for people that are running. So you have seen a few runners. One. And there has only been few diehard runners out, and more and more sort of showing up. And back out here live, this is not the kind of weather you necessarily want to run in, although, you see few people doing it. And it is definitely not weather you want to try to walk in, but, one thing this kind of snow is good for thats playing in. Ive made couple of snowballs this is the perfect type of snow. It makes those nice perfectly round snowballs that you can sort of throw and catch people on their way out or way in. So it is a lot of fun. You can probably make a nice snowman out of this snow, as well. Nice, wet and heavy. So, there is a lot of slippery dangerous conditions, because lot of fun to be had later today as it warms up. Live on kelly drive cherry gregg, kyw news radio for cbs3, Eyewitness News. So i guess your photographer andy better watch out, cherry . Youre armed shes like i have no idea what youre talking about.
