Probably your eyes immediately drawn to those lines of showers going right through the beaches in sussex county, delaware across the delaware bay, headed into cape may county. Lets look at other areas with the rain, as womenment you can see, weve got some showers headed toward the trenton area also are seeing them on 206, which is attributing i rode in itself. You dont need water on top of that road. And then as we move to the south, you can see the line of showers right now so right from long neck, in southern delaware, right up through cape may wildwood, youre looking at some pretty heavy showers at this point. They are on their way out. But they are out there right now. Then as we go north of philadelphia, through easton, you have seen couple of showers, and they are on their way out, as women same deal with flemington, about to see couple of showers in that location. Otherwise these temperatures this morning are in the 50s to the north, in the 60s through the philadelphia area, and in the 70s along the shore, so big range on the temperatures. Our conditions today, will be improving. 81 degrees our High Temperature this afternoon. And we should be able to push out these clouds in a lot of areas, they may hang on little bit longer to the north and just wrap around one later this afternoon. We want it to be nice and dry for that. Also nice and dry for you guys but yesterday there was certainly no shortage of high winds during saturdays storm i know i heard them, im sure did you, as women, winds Strong Enough to top they will tree the one you saw just a second ago on hatfield street in southwest philadelphia. No one was hurt. That is some good news. The street was shut down while crews dealt with that mess. And, very messy across the region here. Thousands more in the dark this morning, though, because of both storms this week. Weve certainly seen our fair share. Right now, Atlantic City electric has just over 2,000 outages, peco is reporting similar numbers, and pse g reporting little more than 2400 customers still without power. So, really feeling for those folks this morning. Well, this weekend Severe Weather is just piling on more frustration as you can imagine for families still reeling from those damaging storms last tuesday. Eyewitness News Reporter Steve Patterson is in Gloucester County with all of the details. In the middle of a saturday rainstorm, clean up kept up from a wednesday wind storm. In Gloucester County, the only noise deep enough to cut through sheets of rain hitting the grounds is this. Hardearned money burning away, with the low hum. It is day four here, without power. I have cabin fever right now. Tired resident carl has been holdup in his own home, since the storm hit. Hes learning just how different the world is, off the grid. I havent heard television. I havent radio. We really dont know whats going on outside other than for the paper. That just started coming, four and a at a time. He is not alone, south jersey outages remain in the tens of thousands, whole communities, like mickelton east greenwich, in the dark for days. We havent seen anything like this in this town for quite some time. Without power of their own, neighbor mark hendrix and son jack, decided to spends the day helping a neighbor, one of dozens every homes on their street that took significant tree damage, tough for mark, incomprehensible for jack. Four to five days. How has that been . Not that good. And just down the road, the knockmans home. It was like thousand cents of rocks hitting the wall. Neighbors to 200 year old oak tree, until the tree came over uninvited. I couldnt believe that tree came down. But, you know, it is life. It happens. Well, thankfully the family here has power t came back on last night. One of the few places that does in this area. Meanwhile, though, theyve been trying to locate or finds a tree company that will help them clean this mess up. But they told us what so many have that the companies in this area are so busy, because of the damage remains so widespread. Reporting from mickelton Steve Patterson cbs3, Eyewitness News. One that nobody planned for quite frankly, cherri gregg from sister station kyw news radio 1060 is live at Memorial Hall this morning whats happening . How has the race changing this morning . Oh, yes yes nicole, instead of triathelon, it is now a duathlon. Soap, the swimming portion of the event was canceled, the city of philadelphia, deemed the water unsafe. As we drove in this morning the schuylkill looks pretty choppy. The current and under current of course can get pretty dangerous, in the river. But, people are used to getting a lit bit wet in the race. It was what it was designed to do white folks are disappointed, happy they are safe. Here this morning, with one of the athletes, glenn heartrick from the challenge athletes foundation, and he is celebrating a one Year Anniversary from a tragic event. Turning it to a positive. Tell me where were you a year snag. So, a year ago i was doing triathelons, like the one did i today training for regular races, on regular morning training ride. Struck, and instantly paralyzed from the chest down, just last june 2014. Wow. So tell me where you were, like physically, and part of your hospital rehabilitation to where you are today . Yes, so just two weeks prior to that i was in iron man race, iron man racer great shape then all the sudden in the hospital paralyzed, 35 pounds lighter my mouth wired shut, nine broken ribs, broken jaw, two collapsed lungs, just not in a good spot. I had to be lit dollars out of my hospital bed by an hour lift because i couldnt physically pick myself up at all. And today, glenn will be participating in one leg of the race. You will be this is your custommade bike here . Yes, it is, part of the challenge athlete foundation, doing a relay, out bringing awareness for challenge athletes, helping us get back to the game of life with physical and mental benefits that sports bridges. Absolutely. So this little bit of rain is not a concern to glenn although, it was a concern to some of the 1700 athlete who are participating today the main concern of course whether or not it will be slippery. Are you nervous about that, glenn, at all . Little bit. For all of the athletes that need to be safe, it is a little slick so going up and downhills is little tough. For me doing the run portion of the row relay fortunately it is flat it will be fast, it will be a great day. And it is all about fun live music lots going on here the pro part started, 30 professional athlete participated and more than 1700 participating in the in the next leg that starts at 7 30. Reporting for three on your side im jim donovan. All right 7 16. Lets sends it over to carol for more on the forecast, sounds like it will dry up little bit today. But if you took a selfie right now, would you have really gloomy look behind you. Yes. And you can see look at this. This is ocean city. Well named isnt it . Look at these waves coming in. If youre tempted walking next to the ocean be very careful. You can see these waves very, very churning waves as low pressure system exits the area. But it is really kicking up the ocean. We have at least moderate risk of rip current. Later on today, we will look better at the beach. This i snow why not you why book a vacation in the summertime anywhere along the shore, but it will be changing. But, also, i just want show you that. This is how cloud think is. You will see the reason in one second, and heres the second now that you are going to see. The reason for that, and thats this. We are looking at a line of some showers moving through the shore areas right now this is where we saw that last picture of cape may courthouse, ocean city is right up there and you can see, some heavy rain falling it is leaving moving pretty quickly, too it moved across the bay, it is going out into the ocean. That will should be pretty much the end of it. We start to see some clearing after. That will that will be welcome. We have temperatures of 66 degrees right now in philadelphia. 66 degrees in wilmington, 63 degrees in trenton still in the 50s, in the poconos and in allentown, and temperatures barely hanging on to the 70s in wildwood. Cooled down little bit with shower that just came through. Seventythree in dover, at this point. Now, we are going to be dealing with a lot of the drying effect today, of the wind, but boy do we have a lot to dry out. Look at these rain amounts these are all in new jersey, yesterday, and if you were watching yesterday you know that the initial flood watch put out by the National Weather service was all for west of philadelphia. Now, heaviest rain fell in new jersey chats words almost four and a half inches every rain vineland, Cumberland County over 4 inches of rain, folsome, atlantic county, three and a half inches of rain, Atlantic City record for the day 2. 37 inches of rain, in mt. Holly. Where the National Weather service over 2 inches of rain, you can just imagine how soggy it was and how much wet ground you are dealing with right now. So we have got saturated ground, this is a loop over the last couple of hours and you can see this spin on this. Weve seen couple of low pressure systems go by. But, it is moving on by. And it is getting out of here. And we will be left with Better Weather. But, as you might imagine as it spins it can spin one or two little showers still even as we go through this afternoon. Here the doppler estimate, of the rain, the highest totals of rainfall, and you can see it is all through new jersey, where you are looking at these orange and yellow shades, and then, we have lesser amounts as go away from the sit. But still lesser doesnt mean nothing. We in philadelphia pick up almost 2 inches of rain, as well. So just a tremendous amount of rain, and this computer model is stellar this morning, showing the showers leaving, and showing some brightening, by 11 00 this morning, it will look a lot different around the shore areas. We might see a spot or two of a shower, just casino of wrapping around, as this thing gets out of here, but generally the trend is better, and then tomorrow looks great. Tuesday, does not look great as we move on into the afternoon hours because we could be dealing with another shower or thunderstorm on tuesday. Temperatures today warmer than yesterday. At 81, shore 80, poconos 70, everybody looking better, this afternoon, than this morning. Winds out of the west, ten to 15 miles per hour. Tonight, nice. 62 degrees. Then over the next couple of days, we stay in the 80s every single day monday is terrific, but tuesday wednesday, thursday, we could be dealing with a shower, any of those days. Were hoping that the fourth of july on saturday stays dry. But that of course is isnt to subject to change, long way off. Nicole . Carol, thanks. Lets see, 7 20 right now. See how traffic is moving out there. Ann evans standing by for us in the cbs3 traffic center. Hey, ann . Hey nicole. Rainy conditions out there. Drive very carefully. This is i59 northbound, between Bridge Street and cottman avenue. We just had a dent clear right now we have disable vehicle as you can see, off to the shoulder. It is really not delaying traffic in anyway. But again watch out for flooding conditions. We dont have any major ones that are reported. But new Jersey Transit case in point here, the river line is suspended between the Walter Rand Transportation Center and the Entertainment Center due to flooding, septas media elwin line suspended due to the weather conditions, as well. We move the traffic cam here to the schuylkill, vine expressway no delays or problems on the schuylkill, pretty good shape despite all of this rain, waiting it to clear, waiting for it to clear, however, we do have some roads closed around the schuylkill, Martin Luther king drive shutdown between the ben franklin parkway and montgomery drive for recreational activities. Kelly drive shutdown art museum circle, for the philadelphia duathlon, originally triathelon, as you have probably heard. We move the track cam one more time to the ben franklin bridge. Look at all of the rain pelting against the lens here. The ben franklin bridge, despite the rain, in pretty good shape. Westbound lanes construction, right lane closed. Thats the latest from cbs3 traffic sentiment im ann evans, nicole, back to you. Thanks for the update. 7 21 carol answers your pet questions in this weeks ask the vet. What do i have on my shoulder . Birds, we are talking birds on ask the vet this morning. Stay tuned. Stuff you didnt even know coming up. Drying out, the rain ends and the sunshine moves right in. We like the sound of that. Carol has your forecast whether we return. interesting one, on ask the vet, we dont often talk about birds, but we will delve down with birds with doctor latoya, with pen vet on your shoulder who is that . Black cat belongs to my dear friend caroline neville. He is about eight years old. All right, he is terrific. Birds in general what are people, where is the mistake being made when people get birds . Usually people dont understands the type of time and commitment it take to have a bird. This little guy probably will get into his 20s, some birds get until 80 years of age. And it requires a lot of energy and a lot of specialized care for them. They are very smart too so you have to be at least as smart as your bird, because if you leave the house during the day, and they bonded with you, you are going to have a problem. He can actually, good point, their physical health also very important but we tends to neglect their mental health. They need a lot of enriching things to do in huge time span when they are not with you. So, what do you do to keep your pet bird, who had bonded with you because they bond in the wild theyll bonds with a person, as well. Exactly. How do you keep them mentally stimulated dollars and not pulling their feathers out because they are stress in the. Great question. Thirst thing toys, we make fun enrichment toys for them. Sometimes actually let them out so they can explore safely their home environment, which is another good thing and then sometime you bring them for field trips, like this little guy comes to see me, i am his vet he comes to see me at the hospital just for fun. The bigger cage the better. Exactly, this little guy cage this tall there is wide. When you think about these guys actually have wing, flighted animals so the larger the space you can afford them the better. Would you generally say and you know you can safeguard your house dont have cat in there, and the window isnt open is it better to let the bird out free time to fly around. Yep. Also good to make sure you have toys, interesting situations it set set up that arent necessarily high in vertical height so they can have fun on the gown shall as well. Do you buy birds in pairs . Because they are part of a flock if they can be. Good question. Sometimes it is okay if theyve already managed to get along with another bird, but in general we tell people to start with one bird first real large responsibility, so they can get comfortable. Usually the birds are quite okay with human flock. It doesnt necessarily mean they have to have another bird as a partner but different people. If you do get another bird, do you have to add them as gradually as do you another dog or cat to the house . Yes. Sometimes all birds dont get along, just like some people might not get along. So it is usually very gradual process. Would you add same species . If you have a finch you get another fin snatch. Real good question. I had one client g take out one of these guys, a different species, got into a fight hurt themselves. Whats the biggest danger, if you see something with your bird, and whether it is Christmas Morning or not go to the vet what is it. If you ever seabird stop eating or if hasnt been droppings in the cage for four hour period, probably an emergency, something is up. I learned a lot about birds. And we have to talk about geese and ducks. People love t yeah, im married. Does it matter . Youd do that for me . Really . Yeah, id like that. Who are you talking to . Uh, its jake from state farm. Sounds like a really good deal. Jake from state farm at three in the morning. Who is this . Its jake from state farm. What are you wearing jake from state farm . [ jake ] uh. Khakis. She sounds hideous. Well shes a guy, so. [ male announcer ] another reason more people stay with state farm. Get to a better state. Today is sunday june 28th good morning, tanks so much for joining us im nicole brewer. It is 7 30 right now, we send it to ever carol a lot of rain yesterday. But kinds of nice, because it forced me to do all my home project. I got so much done. It was great. I was attached to the vacuum cleaner yesterday. Were you . I did no cleaning. Rare day whether that happens, believe me. The weather has to be miserable, and it was, it was great, to get any household chores done, but of course if you had weddings, and planned to have pictures outside im sure you were very disappointed in the weather yesterday. But happy you know that old saying. Ocean city, not so happy is the beach goer who booked a weekend. But it will get a lot better today. Just looks miserable out there right now. But again, there is improvement coming along the shore areas probably the worse of it right now through palmyra cove nature park in new jersey, where the camera is overlooking it delaware across the bay across the river to philadelphia, notice, that we are starting to see a little line of brightening. It is little. But it is just about every shade of gray out there that you can imagine but i think things are starting to brighten up little bit. Storm scan3 wide view, notice that a lot of the showers have moved on, out of the area, but i want to take you little closer to the couple where they still are and theyre Just Cruising along, avalon, and youre seeing some in Atlantic City, but this idea of this little band is the right one. To get out of here, and it will be moving out over the ocean. So, expect to find improving weather throughout the day. 66 degrees, in philadelphia right now. 59 degrees in allentown, we have 70 degrees down in wildwood. Our temperatures today get into the 80s the lower 80s but if youre far enough to the north and the west you may be stopping mid to upper 70s today. It is just going to be looking better and better as we go on through the rest the day with just isolated shower chance coming up later on. We will talk about the seven day including the fourth of july ahead. Nicole . All right, carol, thank youment happening right now Severe Weather having big impact on race in fairmount park. Heavy rains for g organizers there to make pretty big change to a try at. At long with more than 3,000 athlete. Cherri gregg from sister station kyw news radio live at Memorial Hall with more on. That will whats going on . Good morning, nicole. Yes, the triathelon is now a duathlon. Having the swim portion of the race being canceled, as the city of philadelphia deems the Schuylkill River unsafe for swimming today. Because of rain, of course, you know the schuylkill has current, and under current that can be dangerous. But, the racers that i spoke to today still really excited. Theyre probably still going to get wet. The professional portion of the race began little while ago, and in just a few moments, the amateur portion of the race is going to begin. And of course theyre going to get wet as i said, big concern of course is on the bike portion of the race, which is a 24 opinion the 8mile bike ride followed by 6. 2mile bike run. And the bike issue it could get very slippery on the track, and there are could possibly be debris that people have to avoid. Im here with spectators who are here, supporting their daughter and sister, in the race so, dolores and dawn benjamin, who are you supporting today . My daughter. I understand anita prepared for months for this race . Yes, she last. What does she do . She bikes runs and swims. Now anita was little disappointed about the swimming portion being canceled. So you guys are here to support her just the same . Yes, we are. So dawn, you have special contraptions here to deal with the rain. Tell me what this is, what you guys are going to be doing out here today . These are special chairs. My mom my sisters chair, so i just came and sat in the chair. Thats how i prepared for today. Thats how you prepared . Im glad she had these in the back, the nice cover, because it was raining little bit earlier. It was raining, now the rain has seemed to slow to a drizzle now and the sun is going to come out. So this race is likely going to be a loft fun. There will be live music there is a lot of different tents going on where people can pick up sports related gear just have a loft fun as they participate in this triathelon series. Live at the start and finish line, cherri gregg, kyw news radio. I have to get in one of those chairs, pretty awesome. Thanks all right, 7 35 right now.
