The Santa Clara County coroner has identified her as ria leonard. She had outstanding arrest warrants from two nearby counties and was on probation for knowingly buying or receiving a stolen vehicle. Oakland homicide detectives are still searching for clues in the mysterious beating death last week. Tonight the grieving family hopes a reward will encourage people to name the killer. Leigh martinez has more. Reporter just after midnight last sunday a person driving near the 200 block of grand avenue in oakland saw a man being viciously beaten by another man. The driver honked and the attacker ran away. The victim 45yearold Anthony Owens was beaten unconscious. He would not survive diagnose the next day at highland hospital. I hope they can catch the guy. He struggled with drugs, but had been in a Wellness Program for the past year. Coburt grew up in oakland and shocked his son was attacked in such an open intersection near lake merritt. One man is under arrest tonight in connection to a deadly stabbing in hayward. It happened just before 9 30 last night on happyland avenue. Its not clear what led up to the stabbing, but police say a suspect was taken into custody a short time later. The names of the suspect and the victim had not been released. Firefighters are currently battling a 150acre fire near gilroy. It was first reported near 4 00 this afternoon near the intersection of Castro Valley road and highway 101. It tripled in size in less than two hours. One structure is currently threatened, but the fire is now 50 contained. More progress on the wildfire burning near the Yosemite National park. The fire is no longer expanding as quickly. Firefighters now have it 45 contained. Its grown by just one square mile since yesterday. In the weeks since it started it has burned more than 76,000 acres. Fire crews say they believe or they are relieved rather the wind is not blowing as hard as it had been, but they are still concerned those high winds could return. Its mother nature. Were expecting some thunderstorms over the sierras today and theres going to be some outflows on in, you know, which is far away. But that could affect us with the high wind speeds. Potentially today that could reach us and you could see this today in a way that we could see some pretty significant runs. Some of the evacuations have been lifted, but the fire is still threatening 1,500 buildings including some homes. It burned more than 120 structures including at least 63 houses. Now most of the people who own the homes that were destroyed are being allowed back in today to see the ruins to help them cope with their losses. In fact i was driving towards yosemite monday afternoon. I saw this fire from the distance in oak dale. That was just 7,000 acres. Hard to believe it grew that much. Right now the fire zone in the upper 70s. Relative humidity, those moisture levels will creep up right around 36 with a closer look at the fire zones and of course the terrain is always going be a challenge for the fire crews out there. An estimated 15,000 people were running on the race course, the Marathon Race course going over the Golden Gate Bridge and back. We spoke to a lot of the runners this morning. They felt a lot more comfortable knowing they had the road to themselves. Golden gate bridge district decided to earlier this year make the call to shut down the lanes while all the runners were going to be taking part in that event as a security and safety precaution. Today marks six months since bill scott took over the San Francisco Police Department. This week ktvus Frank Mallicoat sat down with the new chief for a oneonone interview. The chief talks about the reforms hes looking to carry out. I have never seen the city become a small town feel in a very good way. And thats really nice. The chief of police of the city and county of San Francisco. Congratulations. [ applause ] reporter its been six months since the San Francisco Police Department swore in their new police chief. So after 179 days on the job, i sat down with the chief bill scott to learn how he is settling into the position and the city he now calls home. Im settling as i can. Im working all the time. So a lot of the times you go home and go to bed and come back to work tomorrow. But i have been able to enjoy the city somewhat. Not as much as i would like to, but yeah, were getting settled. Reporter the lead up to chief scott taking the helm was marked with controversy. Former San Francisco police chief resigned in the end of may last year at the request of mayor ed lee. In october a u. S. Department of justice report outlined 272 recommended changes for the department. Scott was sworn in two months later in december and feels they have made significant progress when it comes to the report. Really we set the mark on in terms of where we need to be as a city and a Police Department in terms of the recommendations. Numerically at this point we submitted 80 of those recommendations. As far as the documentations to the city of justice. Reporter scott says one of the toughest task is changing the culture within the department, especially when it comes to deescalation tactics. We hope we can get to the point of where we will employ the proper tactics to prevent these levels on a daily force. Reporter chief scott served for 27 years with the los angeles Police Department. But a department that will allow their officers to use tasers. The use of tasers has been a big source of controversy between sfpd and the joint unit. Yes, im still in favor of their less lethal tool. Given they dont have too many cases of things that have happened and they have gone awry, but its not designed to take a persons life. S served. New york senator Chuck Schumers office was tasked with locating their owner. On sunday he presented the purple heart to four generations of staff sergeants family.
