Our ross polombo has been on the the Convention Floor and joins us with his thoughts on the finale, ross. Reporter well it was a very long speech. But right now the stage is empty and take a look at this over here at the california delegation. The chairs are folded up and all these balloons now are popped. It is all in the history books now. But no one is going to forget this speech any time soon. Donald trump was practiced and polished and very stern tonight in his delivery. The irony of all of this is he wants to be the anti establishment politician but tonight he looked more like a practiced politician than ever before. I humbly and greatfully accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States. And with that donald trump began to outline his vision for the nation. We will be a country of generosity and warmth. But we will also be a country of law and order. Reporter trump made reference to recent police shoots and violence and vowed to restore order. The attacks on our police and the terrorism of our cities threaten our very way of life. The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon and i mean very soon come to an end. Beginning on january 20 of 2017, safety will be restored. Reporter on Foreign Policy he attacked his opponent Hillary Clinton claiming that she is mostly responsible for war. Iran is on the path for nuclear weapons. Syria is engulfed in a civil war and a refugee crisis now threatens the west. This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton. Death, destruction, terrorism and weakness. Reporter the only interruption during the speech came when media benjamin a former bay area resident and member of the Group Code Pink yelled build bridges not walls. On the issue of immigration, trump promised to build a border and to suspend treaties with countries that support terrorism. Where was the sanctuary for kate stenley. Trump says hes uniquely qualified to lead the nation. Nobody knows the system better than me. Which is why i alone can fix it. Reporter now during the speech, San Francisco was actually in the house. I want to show you something. Donald trump was right up there at that podium and look at where the protester that started shouting about 20 minutes in was right there up in the balcony. He could clearly see her. Her name again is media benjamin. Shes from the bay area. She started the Group Code Pink about seven years ago in San Francisco. She was detained not arrested and she just got out a few moments ago. We caught up with her. Listen to what she had to say about all of this. Donald has been talking about build a wall and gets the crowd all excited. Build that wall, build that wall. Make mexicans pay. Were a nation of immigrants. Immigrants have contributed so much to our country and to put out that kind of negativity to millions of people is just not fair. Reporter all right throughout this entire Republican National convention, we have been right over here with the california delegation. The chairs are gone now but take a look at this video during this one hour 15 minute long speech. The delegation was screaming here louder than anyone on the floor. When it was just over they just erupted into screams. Everybody getting on top of their chairs and frankly going crazy. Take a listen to what the party had to say about donald trump. Donald trump and his family and the rnc, they led out a family demand for how america can be great again. It was an amazing speech. I dont know how it didnt move anyone. Because its for us, for america. I think hes done quite a lot tonight. I think im a little overwhelmed. I think he did everything he possibly could do. Including being so inclusive beyond anything hes ever done before. I think tonight was sensational. He really rose to the occasion. I couldnt be happier. That last man you heard from was scott robinson. We followed heupld followed him here all the way from San Francisco. The big question what does everybody outside think . What do the undecided think. I would be surprised if donald trump didnt get that big bump he is looking for. Ross polombo, thank you ross. Tonight donald trump was introduced by his daughter ivanka. Shes a businesswoman in her own right and she spoke about how many women her father has hired over the years and she promised that her dad would help working mothers. As president my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women were not a significant portion of the work force. And he will focus on making quality child care affordable and accessible for all. Bay area republicans gathered at watch parties to listen to Donald Trumps speech. Jana katsuyama joins us now live where one of those parties were held on a start up space on market street, jana. Reporter julie, so many of the republicans who were at this watch party told me that donald trump was not their first choice during the primaries and what was most interesting was hearing their reaction to the speech. From all of america my father and our next president , donald j. Trump. Cheers for donald trump showed unification. At the San Franciscos Republican Watch Party for the candidate who was not the first choice of many in the room. Perhaps bringing that type of outsider blood into washington apart from lifelong politicians could be much of what our country needs to break from from slow growth and move into fast growth. Reporter they find him a more palatable pick than Hillary Clinton. Trump talked about defeating clinton, isis, eliminating sanctuary cities and spoke in support of lgbtq people. Contradicting the gops official platform. Still some are cautious that donald trump can put away his speech and become more president ial. I just want to see if he can be more president ial instead of lashing out in the juvenile way. Reporter others said his speech showed he can lead america to victory. I think he is standing ahead of what republicans believe. I have been won over. Reporter many came out to watch and listen, and they say there will be another watch party held next week for the Democratic National convention. And what about those democrats and independents was he able to sway any of them over to his side tonight, jana. Reporter its really interesting julie because i think so many people i talked to said they were not really enthusiastic about candidates on either side. It could be that its more than just one speech that is going to take the months between now and november to really help people decide when they finally get into the voting booth. Jana katsuyama in San Francisco tonight. Tonight bay area venture capitalist peter teal became the first openly gay man to speak at a Republican National convention in 16 years. I am proud to be gay, i am proud to be a republican but most of all im proud to be an american. American. Teal said he doesnt agree with everything but fake problems like which bathroom people can use is blocking the real issues. Did donald trump make the case for the republicans and did he make the case against hillary. I dont think that he made a case for himself or against hillary. What did you want him to focus on. Her weaknesses, Foreign Policy, her relations between her and wall street. He did talk about corruption. Not the way he has in debate and Campaign Speeches where he goes all in on her. I think this whole idea he encouraged this whole lock her up chant. Lock her up chant at some point thats going to backfire. One thing a lot of people were talking about is how long it was and whether it may have been too long. That would have been my number one observation. It was a very long speech. Theres an old adage in politics no political speech is too short. He may have shortened that up conservatively because that gives you better impact. It leaves you wanting more. Tonight i think he went on for probably 15 or 20 minutes too long. But other than that what did you think of the speech . It was the standard trump speech weve been hearing month after month for a really long time. And it was on a big stage in front of a lot of people. You said in early newscasts he needed to look president ial. Did he look president ial tonight . I wanted to see this me i would have like to have seen more policy oriented discussion and plans and he referred to them but he never got to it. And so the piece about being president ial looked pretty much still like a Campaign Speech to me. Professor i heard some people questioning about whether the speech was too dark but cnn interviewed his Campaign Manager who said he is just speaking the truth. Yeah, i listened and i thought it was a sort of mixed speech. And after i watched cnn i was told and persuaded that it was a dark speech. But i didnt detect by itself objectively. So i think thats part of the problem is that you know people are perceiving donald trump as having you know sort of cast this nixonian darkness over america instead of the reagan hopeful speech. He did appeal to the middle class. Did he do enough . I think he did enough so that people will look at him. What you want coming out of a night like this is you want people to consider you and for people in the middle and democrats who may not have considered him before, that was what he wants to come out of tonight with. Hes already got the republican base. What else can he attract . He spoke specifically to the construction workers to the welders, you know to the middle class people. Conveying trying to reach out to them. We havent heard that much before. We heard the phrase blue collar millionaire. He said i may be a privileged man but i understand. He reached out to the minorities and lgbt. Lgbt community. Thats it. One of the most touching moments that i thought tonight was he said i will protect the lgbt community. There was a standing ovation. There was cheering then he said and i dont know whether this was an ad lib or not he said as a republican so the one thing, it was ad lib when he made that point. Because he was shocked the crowd was responsive and supportive of the lgbtq community. And this again donald trump does have a fair record in his hotels and casinos with the lgbt equality and marriage opportunity. He and Hillary Clinton are trying to see who is more lgbtq friendly. He cast himself as the law and order of president. Youre going to be the law and order president in ferguson and help the people of ferguson. He was speaking from both sides of his mouth. Gentlemen thanks for joining us. Very welcome. Next week itll be the democrats turn at the National Convention in philadelphia. The event kicks off with speeches from First Lady Michelle Obama and bernie sanders. On tuesday the speeches will include former president bill clinton and a group of black women who lost children in clashes with police or through gun violence. President obama and Vice President joe biden will be the key speakers on wednesday. And Hillary Clinton will take the stage on thursday night. Clinton is expected to announce her choice for Vice President ial candidate tomorrow. Sources say a long time friend of the Clintons Tom Vilsack is also in the mix. In the video kensey can be heard telling police that he is a behavioral therapist and that he was trying to calm down the individual.
