She was able to run a business, file and prosecute civil lawsuits, and was found competent enough to enter pleas in prior criminal cases. They also went on to question prosecutors motives. Reporter while the office did not respond directly to the allegations they did release a statement saying they are focused on the case. A navy seal who was killed in iraq today, turn that he was the grandson of an arizona financier who was involved in an infamous savings and loan scandal in the 1980s. Reporter fentanyl is among the most powerful opioids out there. Its dangerous, its deadly, and some people are overdosing on it without even realizing thats what theyre taking. I literally have died about three times. Ive died. Reporter three overdoses. In a literal dream state of mind. Reporter after knowingly taking fentanyl patches. That stuff is really no joke. Fentanyl. Reporter for this man who goes by the name easy. He was an electrical apprentice working on skyscrapers in San Francisco until two Car Accidents got him hooked on prescription pain pills. It led to heroin and a life of shooting up on the streets. I already feel the rush. Its only have done. Reporter fentanyl is a things synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 trying stronger than morphine, typically given be a patch to Cancer Patients but the drug is being placed into counterfeit prescription painkillers. And they in fact have fentanyl. Reporter Bay Area Health agencies are putting out alerts following at least seven fentanyl overdoses since march. The overdoses like clockwork. Every 5 to 10 minutes, you hear the trucks rolling, ambulance roll in. It was because someone was flat on their back dead from fentanyl. Right there in the middle. I was walking downtown during the worst time of it. Outside civic center b. A. R. T. , it was just wrappers, naloxone rappers. People were just overdosing left and right. Reporter when fentanyl ravaged the city last summer, her group tallied 345 overdose reversal in just five months. 345 reversals in a summer, if that if those have been deaths, it would have been a national crisis. Reporter now the dea is worried about another crisis. They believe the recent overdoses in sacramento and the bay area are linked because the pills have similar markings. We dont want people to go out there and get pills off the street. Reporter special agent john martin tells us fentanyl is produced in china, been shipped to mexico. The mexicobased Drug Trafficking organization can purchase a kilogram of fentanyl from overseas. For approximately 3300 wholesale. They can generate over 1 million in revenue off that kilogram of fentanyl. This is our number 1 priority for dea in northern california. Reporter fentanyl has been reaching all corners of the country. In San Francisco, wheeler says the availability of naloxone has helped save lives. Places that have established the locks on programs, or just not seeing the deaths. That other places are. Average person might pop three or four norco. Attorney has decided to drop its lawsuit against a major Marijuana Dispensary in oakland. It would have been called a victory for the medical marijuana movement. Harborside Health Center is considered the largest medical pot dispensary in the nation. For the past four years, a federal lawsuit has hung over the operation with the threat of shutting it down. The agreement covers 26,000 professors, lecturers, counselors, librarians and coaches. The California Faculty Association says 97 of the members who cast ballots voted in favor of the contract.
