Carnaval isnt just about the party but the neighborhood. To really understand carnaval you have to understand the neighborhood that is hosting it. The Mission District has the most amount of murals in the neighborhood then the whole world. You wont find this anywhere else. The murals are everywhere you look. Yes. Each one tells a story. There is a mural did the king the story of carnaval. A dancer from brazil who started one of the first dance schools in the neighborhood. This year when the festival takes over for the 38th year the parade will roll right by. 24th and brian up towards the 24th and mission. 400,000 people packed the mission for this festival. Executive producer hernandes has been a part of everyone. The first year it happened was something with a bunch of artists for fun. It was never really the vision for it to grow the way it has. Hernandez is an artist. It is made out of black sand. I made it from the totally. Planning carnaval is his full time job and he does not take it lightly. For the mission right now with all of the evictions, we have had 10,000 people displaced and 8000 latino. Carnaval is a statement, we are going nowhere. It is a celebration. It has every latin american and caribbean country represented in the parade. As we walked around it was clear, it is an introduction to a culture and a community. This is an interesting block because we in the Community Take care of our own community. We support them over 20 years ago. You would never know but here there is a clinic. This neighborhood is rich with color and art and food. You have a bunch of revolutionary on the other side. The Mission District is very rich with food. Get a mexican breakfast and even the american breakfast has chilean it. What is the sign again . I will hit the streets. They crews every year in the parade. It is the mecca of low riding in the bay. Its about taking a stand. We do make a statement and a bold statement. We are not shy about it. It is anger in the stronghold that we have. It has been a challenge because new people have moved in, for example, on harrison street they dont accept that they dont like it and we said when you moved in here you wanted culture but this is our culture. Does it bring you together were deep in the divide . We made an effort to invite all of the community to learn about our culture. We will see if they come. He says he hopes they do. He hopes they explore this neighborhood and get to know the people who live here. And the challenges they face. The banks taking over peoples homes. Get to know this neighborhood and you realize carnaval is more than a festival, a museum, a history lesson. It is simply the stage. In the mission we didnt have an opera or ballet or symphony and so carnaval has become that institution that brings together everybody in the streets become the theater. Really colorful. It started out with a few people years ago. Even back then they ended up doing all of these lapse because everybody wanted to do it. It is great for the Younger Generation as well. Clinton has been campaigning. Bernie sanders as well. Both of them are spending a lot of money on that. The margin has narrowed and they are in a dead heat right now in california. How much of a difference do you think this will make for clinton . There are two aspects to what is going on in california for Hillary Clinton. The fact she is having to spend all of this time and money and energy on california infighting sanders is time and money and energy she could be spending and would prefer to be spending against the republican nominee donald trump. Point to, if she loses california she will get the delegates she needs. She is 80 short of the 2383 she needs. She will go over the top. You dont want to go into the convention having lost the biggest state in the country limping in rather than coming in probably. She is on a losing streak. She had a couple of wins in the east in new york and pennsylvania but has lost a lot of states. Oregon and indiana and if she were to lose california again she will still be the nominee but you will go in as a weekend in compromise candidate. What do you make of this Inspector General regarding her email server. I know you will talk about it with your panel coming up. Do you think this will affect her moving forward . Fire crews are inspenting homes, telling Property Owners to clean up their yards or they will face fine. Fire safety is especially important this summer. El nino was is part of the problem. The fine fuels have grown higher and thicker than they have in the past due to the precipitation. Homeowners have to maintain at least 10 feet of defensible feet around their homes. 100 feet if the home is on a slope. Sheriffs deputies have arrested a man in connection with a hit and run crash that killed two family dogs and injured their owner in saratoga. This man is now facing felony charges. Deputies say they found him after someone saw his truck from Surveillance Video broadcasted on the news. Now, the dogs were both labradors. One sadie and the other chesley. They were out when a ford truck hit them. The dogs were rushed to a vet but the injuries were so severe, they had to be euthanized. Neighbors say the area is dangerous for people out walking their dogs. A lot of people walk their dogs. Theres no sidewalk to walk. Everybody is on the road with their dogs. And its if youre not following the speed limit, its hard to react and stop. The dogs owner fell to the ground where the dogs were injured and he suffered moderate injuries. A north bay man is in jail facing drunk driving charges after a crash that killed a friend. He was taken into custody after the accident in Sonoma County. This happened early yesterday morning. Investigators say he struck and killed a 27yearold woman who was ejected from her own car after losing control of her vehicle. He was in a car right behind her. It appears she was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control and overturned. It appears she was not wearing her seat belt and she was ejected from her vehicle. She was then subsequently run over. Investigators say its still not clear if the woman died as a result of her own accident or being hit. Tell us why you think this was so important to create and what you want people to walk away from it . Especially on memorial day where certainly a lot of people are taking the time to be with their families. But it is an important day to remember those who have served and sacrificed. This is probably the only memorial that the parents of the fallen will see in their lifetime. It is here to memorialize those fallen soldiers. And everyones support is important for that. Its reminiscent of the Vietnam Memorial wall. When people go up there, especially if one of your loved ones is listed on there, it must be emotional for families. It is extremely emotional. A lot of tears every time this goes up. There are a lot of tears and emotions going. We will be here tomorrow for memorial day. We have two in front of the memorial. The inner east bay will see temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s once again. We have a lot of 50s out there. Now into the 60s. Even areas like walnut creek reporting mid 60s to 70 degrees. And both of us are in similar situations where we had to turn it on in the second half and really get on a roll a bit. I think that has served both teams well. We will see who you know, who executes and who is at their best in the final round. It starts at 5 00 our time tomorrow night. Turning now to other news. The california Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly solo car crash in the east bay. That happened shortly before 2 00 this morning in pleasanton. A black pickup truck crashed into a power pole. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The chp is trying to determine why the truck veered off the road. The person involved drove off the roadway. So speed could be a factor. We still have to look at if theres potential witnesses. It is still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The name of the drive has not yet been released. And were following developing news out of Sacramento County where the body of a father that went missing last sunday has been found. The body of 23yearold Tyler Jackson was found last night in the water near the bridge in walnut grove. His daughter kayleigh is still missing this morning. Jackson and his daughter were visiting family last weekend but never made it home to sacramento. According to the sacramento bee, there was a metal object found under the water yesterday that could be a car. They have not confirmed what it is or if it belongs to jackson. Foul play does not appear to be involved in the death. Investigators will shift their focus in the search of a missing 15yearold girl from vallejo. The man suspected of abducting her was killed in a shootout. The search did turn up empty and they dont plan to look for her there again. They were out there in this heat and looking and trying to find her. But i just thought her backpack, a clue, something. And its just nothing. And i feel like were back to square one now. Investigators say they do plan to regroup and figure out where to concentrate the search efforts next. Authorities think penson may be hurt but theyre working on the assumption that she is still alive. Authorities also say her suspected kidnapper, castro, was an acquaintance of penson. Her family will hold a individuality at 5 30 tonight at the same pedestrian bridge in vallejo where she was last seen alive this past week. The Sheriffs Department has set up a tip line to help find her. If you have any information that might help, youre urged to give them a call. You see the number. 7077841963. Centerville police have issued a press release that says a missing elderly woman has been found safe. She was last seen on friday morning at her home on oakmont avenue. The accidents have taken place in the past few days as the migrants tried to reach europe in boats. Emergency crews have managed to save dozens of people. But there are concerns that the death toll could climb higher. It left a port in libya. A gorilla has been shot and killed at the cincinatti zoo after grabbing a young boy after he fell into the enclosure. The boy apparently crawled through a barrier, fell into the moot surrounding the gorilla habitat. Two of the female gorillas obeyed commands to go inside. But the male gorilla grabbed the boy. Thats when they opened fire and had to kill the gorilla. The team did a good job and made a tough choice and they made the right choice. Because they saved that little boys life. It could have been very bad. Zookeepers reportedly used a tranquilizer on the gorilla as the child was rescued. The boy remains in the hospital this morning but is expected to survive. As people across the country honor veterans this memorial day weekend, police in three states are investigating vandalism at veteran memorials. That includes here in california. Theres a wall honoring Vietnam Veterans in los angeles that was sprayed with graffiti this week. A cross display was damaged after a driver plowed through it yesterday. That driver was arrested. In virginia, the petersberg battlefield was looted. All three incidents are being investigated. Later today, veterans and their families will honor the crew of the uss San Francisco. That ship was attacked during world war ii. The admiral chose to defend the group of lives of marines instead of retreating. Veterans of the korean war will also be honored at the event. Santa clara sheriffs deputies have arrested a man in connection to a hit and run crash that killed two dogs and injured their owner. 44yearold christopher is now facing felony charges. Deputies found him after someone saw his truck from surveillance on the broadcast news. The dogs were sadie and chudley. The dogs were rushed to a vet but the injuries were so severe that they had to be euthanized. Neighbors say the area can be dangerous for people out walking their dogs. A lot of people walk their dogs. Theres no sidewalk to walk. Everybody is on the road with their dogs. And its pretty much if youre not following the speed limit, its hard to react and stop. The dogs owner fell to the ground when the dogs were hit and suffered moderate injuries. Well, this morning a north bay man is in jail facing felony drunk driving charges after a bizarre accident that killed a friend. The chp says 28yearold kyle of petaluma was taken into custody after the accident in Sonoma County. It happened in the community of pengrove early yesterday morning. He struck and killed a 27year old woman who had been ejected from her own car after she lost control of the vehicle. He was in the car right behind her. It appears she was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control and overturned. It appears she was not wearing her seat belt and she was ejected from her vehicle. She was then subsequently run over. Investigators say its not clear if she died as a result of her own accident or because she was hit by terek. The two had been drinking together at several bars and restaurants in petaluma before the accident. Coming up, he has been following politics for decades. More than 35,000 gaves here at the cemetery. A walk through the grave stones at the cemetery is like a monument to the different layers of the city. We have people here from most every era of the conflicts that the United States have been engaged in. The famous general worked out out of here. So every era of the u. S. Conflicts from the indian wars, spanish american war, iraq, afghan, people are buried here from all of the conflicts that the u. S. Engaged in. Since 9 11 and the new engagement overseas, it has become more timely to people in the bay area and across the country that memorial day takes on a new significance. Maybe they question the engagement of the United States in wars overseas and people are honoring people who stepped forward and sacrificed and lost their lives for the country. Every year there seems to be a larger turnout on memorial day. Do you think its understanding or respect. I think its a combination. When you remember someone who is lost, you bring them back into life. You bring them back to your living existence. And therefore they do not die. But while memorial day is always marked with a large ceremony, rangers say visitors come every day. Sometimes searching for people they know. Often they come to learn about the people who have come before. Theres also an electronic grave locator at the entrance.
