Alex reports on the much debated changes to the departments use of force policy. Reporter this is all the result of a longrunning debate. Last night, members of the Police Commission approved two major changes to the departments use of force policy. First off, members passed a measure that bans officers from shooting and moving cars. Unless there were exceptional circumstances. The Police Officers association had objected to the original proposal. And the union says that they need latitude when they might be in public when they are in danger behind the car, some commissioners agreed. When i first came on, there continue to be several shootings. Last night baby and a maneuver known as a which is eight which is a type of neck hole. Session i called. They say its not this neck hold. They say it is not the same as a chokehold. But it can be useful for those who are smaller in stature. These rule changes officers take effect immediately although, the police Union Earlier this week to file suit trying to block those changes to the departments use of force policy. Thank you. The San FranciscoPolice Officers association illustrated about the Selection Process with the new police chief, the union says that it should have been included in choosing the next chief and that they did not have them ahead of time that he was picking los angeles deputy. The union throwing its support behind the chief and the sfp the veteran. They report that they sent a message to the 23rd hundred mayor accusing them of picking the new chief in secret. They also said, he turned his back on the file. While San Francisco has hired new chief, all eyes on oakland who is searching for their city officials. And, it will continue into the new year. And, it will be back in june. And, the mayor telling us that the city is on track to announce the selection of the new chief after the new year. He said, its a choice that should be rushed. You need to get it right, you need to get it right this time. And, the administrative to make a profound decision that would have a lasting impact. Right now there is no word who is on the short list to take over Oakland Police department. And, high cost overruns seem to be the rule and not the exception as we have seen with the bay bridge. And, now the Golden Gate Bridge, they look at the rationale of the suicide barriers price tag. Last year alone, they say, the Golden Gate Bridge that end their lives. 33 could not be restrained or talked out of it. Most of them jumping to the west toward the ocean. Since it was built in 1937 it is believed that 1600 people have jumped to their deaths. The golden gate is a suicide magnet. And, a disturbing recent trend. What we have seen, is that increase in young people under the age of 25 coming to the bridge to come thems to kill themselves. It was originally estimated to cost around 7 million. And, they have finally agreed on that. It came in five, we put together a plan. They say that most will quit jumping here and those who do will be saved. In a quarter century, its projected that 750 lives will be saved. That comes out to over 25,000 per life. Investment is still based thats still worth it. Resistance to the barrier centered around that they will seek out another place to kill themselves. And concerns about cost and worries about changing the bridge is iconic look. Back when it was first built, they were telling people put something here. The 18yearold son died and a jump from the bridge in 2013 with a Firm Contract now in place, he no longer has to worry about cost overruns killing the suicide barrier. I feel like it is a big step forward. And, theres no public thinking has changed. Will it work . This will be the first bridge suicide barrier in the United States a dozen bridge barriers worldwide have been set up for two decades. Many studies show that most bridge suicides are impulsive. Survivors say they regretted it as soon as they jumped. The majority never try it again. When people dont have an assurance that they are going to be successful they dont seek another bridge. And it is really a magnet. It should be complete. By 2021. They kind of answer that question. If you really want to take your life, you will go to another bridge or do something else. A lot of people get on the they are depressed they pulled the car over and about a lot of it is spread the moment. And state also known for it. And they say, can you spend it by putting into Mental Health program. But the people say, this will take away the impulsiveness. I have heard from a lot of other people who are happy that at least we got that dividing cement block ahead. First it would be the suicide barrier first. We need to make it safer for drivers. Very tight. 4 Yoga Community rallying behind an instructor who had her life savings stolen by a burglar. Not sure why she had this in her house. But it has been set up for janet stone. Her home near Mount Davidson was broken into and she said that she had stashed her life savings in a safe. We just checked in, right now it has raised about 22,000. A new report shows young adults are choosing not to leave the nest. The report truly found that 40 of people between the ages of 18 and 34 are staying at home. And this percentage the highest since 1940 the year after the official and the great depression. Im thinking why does it matter . Partly the reason matters is social media. They see everything that their friends are getting. Remember when we go to our friends houses like what did you get . Now we see what they got before we open our presents and are comparing them. So i think we have to be aware of those pressures. How about a soup kitchen . Let them give food to the poor . I have had a couple of friends do that and those kids are the nicest young adults. Beautiful. I think we need to model giving. Do you have any exercises or things that you would do . Just to show kids, going to the soup kitchen may be one . In it but we need to think about is frontloading. Expectations, family values, we are always talking about what is important to our family whether that is faith, tradition, giving, youre always talking about the family narrative. And doing things like giving back. Else on the shelf . Else the else i have seen a lot of them have stress. And, its fun. It worked in our house. I think that it is fun just had to be aware of what is the message that we are giving. Something that we do, is try to do homemade gifts for people and for their friends because if your kids have a lot of friends, have you instill the giving without spending a bunch of money. And i think what they are talking about is meaningful and personal. And the experience guess we more. So how do you tell them that giving actually feels better often than receiving .
