It does look like they have the vehicle thats upright now. It was hard to tell what it was, but it turned out to be an suv here. Northbound 101 at the 0 80 split. One lane is getting through. Its like a bad afternoon commute. I wouldnt recommend 101 at all. If you are familiar with the side roads, and even if youre not, i would just get off the freeway and drive some of the main side roads and bring your patience because its going to be one of those commutes. I want to show you that 101 is slow, and 280 is also getting slow down to king street. People have heard about the crash, using 280. 280 is still better if you want to stay on the freeway. 101 northbound a report of a crash after the San Francisco airport. Its right about here, reported blocking of lanes, and watch for that. Lets go to the east bay. We have slow traffic in hayward on 880 southbound because of earlier issues. Both directions in hayward slow. And highway 4 is slow to antioch because of an earlier crash on highway 4 near port chicago highway. We have a pretty slow commute in contra costa on highway 24 as well, and at the bay bridge, we have a back up that extended for a 20 minute delay before you make it on the span. Yes, good morning, the first of several of the days events scheduled to happen at 10 00 at Civic Center Park in berkeley. Its an event sponsored by the Orange County alt right group. First, we have already seen Berkeley Police on patrol at the park. We saw officers removing signs, apparently in support of milo yiannopoulos, whose speech was canceled because of earlier protests. The sergeant removing the signs said police were taking them down because they had graphic, pornographic images and nudity. The park has been the site of clashes between pro and anti trump groups. The most recently was a week and a half ago and the violence was part of the reason Security Officials recommended canceling the speech on campus in the first place. It was canceled but conservative groups are coming to berkeley to express their frustration. The city and university have hampered their free speech rights. Protesters who oppose colter plan on showing up at some of the rallies, raising the possibility yet again of heated physical clashes. Im aware that i will be in danger. The people that are going to show up are in danger, but the bigger danger is to allow the radical left wing to erode our civil liberties. This was a great victory to have kept coulter out of here. We are a sanctuary campus, and we mean to keep that way. Reporter now, heres what is planned for today in berkeley. At 10 00 a. M. , the Orange County alt right protest group has the rally at Civic Center Park. At noon on ban bankroft, the International Socialist is having an alt right, to show the support for free speech and opposition to coulter. Conservative commentator, Gavin Mcginnis will be reading aloud one of her speeches. Berkeley police and uc Berkeley Police are on stand by on high alert, and we saw some of the officers here this morning said that they had been called into their shifts it hours early, ahead of their regular shifts because of the activity planned today. Thank you. Yeah. After coulter announced the cancellation of the speech, she made the appearance on fox news and talked about students that invited her and were sponsoring her speech. They ran away. She mentioned the Young American foundation, it was cosponsoring the speech with two other groups. The Alameda Unified School district says Lum Elementary School may not be safe in an earthquake. The mercury news reporting there was another tactic that wells fargo employees were told to use to get new Bank Accounts open. The paper says wells fargo employees were told to quote round up undocumented immigrants and bring them into a bank branch to open checking accounts. That included day laborers looking for work, and people waiting at Social Security offices. That report goes on to say the bank promised not to charge new account owners with Check Cashing fees. Wells fargo says those claims are quote offensive and run counter to what the bank expects of its employees. Republicans in congress may start as early as today to get a new Health Care Reform bill passed. The president suffered a serious public image defeat when the first attempt to repeal the Affordable Care act had to be withdrawn from consideration at the last minute. The new version allows states more flexibility, including opting out of coverage requirements that are now in place. Republicans say they would like to get this done quickly and it could be the president s signature victory if it passed before saturday, the day that happened mark the president s 100th day in office. The plan unveiled yesterday would change the number of personal income tax brackets from 7 to 3 with the rate set at 10, 25 and 35 . The Corporate Tax rate would be slashed from 35 to 15 . Critics say it would increase the deficit while providing the biggest windfall to the wealthy. The president s plan is to give a massive tax break to the very wealthy in this country, a plan that will mostly benefit people and businesses like President Trumps that wont pass muster with we democrat. We will be attacked from the left, and we will be attacked from the right but one thing is certain, i would never ever bet against this president. He will get this done for the american people. Now, the white house says tax plan will stimulate so much Economic Growth that it will pay for itself. But some economists still skeptical. Mcdonalds is expanding its relationship with uber to deliver fast food to more of its customers. It has been testing deliveries through the uber eats app in about 200 restaurants in florida since december. It will launch delivery in several cities nationwide by the end of june. An investigation at facebooks menlo park continues after two men fell 40 feet from a steel beam. This happened last night before 5 00 at an Office Building on bay front expressway. The men were seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital. Authorities say according to a preliminary investigation the men were working on a beam when the building shifted causing the men to fall. There was rebar all over the place they could have landed on. So i would say if you want to say lucky for surviving, i guess, unlucky that it happened, but lucky to survive. They were wearing full safety gear at the time. Cal osha investigators are expected to be at that site today. Time is 7 24. A female employee at Stanford University was groped last night. The man came up from behind her, grabbed her from behind while she was at a water fountain. Police identified and then found the 24yearold suspect who is not connected to the university. The victim decided not to press charges and since police didnt actually see the crime, that suspect was escorted off the stanford campus. We have an update to a story we told you about yesterday during mornings on 2 about a woman attacked near the san jose state campus. If you can see her being attacked by several women early yesterday morning. The last report we had is shes still in the hospital. The women beat and kicked her for several minutes. This happened on a long stretch of san car low street between the sidewalk and parking lot of a fast food restaurant. The victim will be okay but the attack could have been a lot worse. It does happen. It was just captured on tape. You guys have a video of it. It does happen, not a lot but it does happen. We are lucky that this is not a homicide. Police are still trying to figure out if this was a random attack or if the victim was targeted and they are still looking for suspects. That video is posted on our web site at ktvu. Com. Highway 4 continues to be really slow because of an earlier problem at port chicago highway. Again, most of these crashes have cleared. I dont think any students are going to make it an unsafe environment which is why she canceled her speech because it was an unsafe environment. Reporter Berkeley College republicans and a third Nonpartisan Group say they want to host coulter on campus if shes interested and the International Socialist organization will be holding a rally at noon to speak out about the so called alt right speakers invited to the cal campus. And we want to take you live to berkeleys Civic Center Park where at 10 00 this morning, the first of several rallies will take place right here this morning hosted by the Orange County alt right group. The police are on high alert because similar gatherings in the past have turned violent. We have seen Police Police officers on patrol at the park this morning. Ktvus allie rasmus is out there. As expected, 15 ten ants of a tenants of a west oakland apartment are suing the Building Owner and managers. 4 people died. 6 others were hurt when the building on san pablo avenue burned. The lawsuit claims the building was a fire trap and badly maintained. Court documents show the 15 tenants are asking for nearly 2 million in damages. And that is to punner and de punish and deter this conduct so it will never happen again. These defendants wont allow a property to become this sub standard. City records show that 8 fire Code Violations were issued on that building just three days before the fire. The city of oakland is not being included as a defendant in the lawsuit. Tenants say the landlord and management are the ones who failed to maintain the building. Time is now 7 37. United airlines is changing the way it deals with flights that are overbooked. Thats after the airline received a lot of bad publicity when a passenger was dragged off of a plane by Police Officers earlier this month to make room for united flight crew. Ktvus Leigh Martinez reports on some of the changes passengers could be seeing as early as tomorrow. United Airline Passengers are being promised that if they board that flight and take a seat, they will not be kicked out in order to accommodate a flight crew member. United airlines is offering other incentives as well, but some passengers say it doesnt matter. They still do not want to fly united. On april 9th, united air leans passengers record Airlines Passengers recorded a passenger from his seat and down the aisle after dao refused to give up his seat to a flight crew member traveling to a different airport. He suffered a concussion, broken nose and lost two teeth. The incident still doesnt sit well with other travelers who say they will not fly united anymore. Basically i dont want to take United Airlines anymore. I wouldnt want to take it anyways, even if they give me the chance or they offer me a ticket, i wouldnt take it. I dont like the way they treat their customers. Reporter United Airlines has announced policy changes such as offering up to 10,000 to passengers who volunteer to take flights. All crew members traveling to other airports must be booked and sitting in seats an hour before departure to avoid kicking paying passengers out of their seats. United Airlines Says it wants to create a check in process to ask customers about their willingness to give up their seats for compensation. Another possible incentive is that if a passenger does voluntarily give up their seat to a flight crew member they have the option of waiting for a new flight or have the option of flying to another airport nearby and having United Airlines pay for ground transportation. Its a big day for the 49ers new front office who have to decide who they will select for the number two pick in the nfl draft. 9ers fans are hoping they will pick a game changer after they had the second worst record in the nfl. She said she made the discovery recently while walking her dogs on a path along columbus parkway. These dogs are of all different breeds. She reported it to the police, and came back the next day, hoping to find investigators investigating but says there wasnt much left at the scene when she came back. She thinks coyotes carried those dogs away. These animals lost their lives to something sick and depraved. I dont know what happened. Were they bait dogs. Is there some individual out here thats killing dogs. Of course why and how could anybody do this, you know. They were helpless. A local rescue group is offering a 2000 reward to find whoever is responsible a plan by pg e to cut down more than 200 trees in lafayette is angering residents. The trees are on public and private land near the lafayette trail, thats in the green on the map. Pg e says cutting down the trees will give better access to First Responders to gas lines lines during an emergency. At first they wanted to take down a thousand trees. The city hired an expert to work with pg, and e to save as many trees as possible. The analogy i like to use is its the same principle behind why you cant park your car in front of a fire hydrant as to why you cant have trees, shrubs or other objects directly over the top of a Gas Transmission line. It prevents Emergency Responders from having the quick access they need in order to make the public safe. We did see officers on patrol here at Civic Center Park well before dawn this morning. The officers were apparently called in to start their normal shift about five hours early. But heres a look at some of the days events. 10 00, the Orange County alt right protest group has an event happening here at Civic Center Park here in berkeley. That was the event, the man we just interviewed, bikers for trump said their members were going to be at today. At noon on ban kroft and telegraph, the opposite side of the political spectrum. The socialist organization is having an alt right delete, and Gavin Mcginnis will be reading allowed some of ann coulters speeches at the park in protest of her event being canceled today. We should mention that Berkeley High school is right next to Civic Center Park and we have reached out to them to find out if theyre going to be doing anything differently in terms of advising students to stay away from the area. An investigation at facebooks menlo Park Headquarters continues after two men working at a construction site fell 40 feet from a steel beam. This happened after 5 00 at an Office Building under construction off bay front expressway. The men were seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital. Authorities say according to a preliminary investigation, the men were work ongoing a beam when the building shifted causing the men to fall. There was rebar they could have landed on. So i would say if you want to say lucky for surviving, yes, unlucky that it happened, but lucky to be surviving. The two men were wearing full safety gear at the time. 100 other workers were at the site when it happened. For the first time in about two years, the b. A. R. T. Out of south city, is backed up all the way up to this point. San mateo bridge, westbound 92, near 101, theres a report of a crash there, that might start affecting the san mateo bridge eventually. Its a motorcycle involved in the crash, so again, this commute might start to slow down. It started to improve. I want to show you the peninsula, 280 is backed out of daly city. You can see ucpd officers here making a visible show of force at the south side of campus. In just the last hour or so, we saw ucpd posting signs on the south side entrance, that sign anyone is subject to search and listing a range of prohibited items, including any kinds of weapons, hard bottles and explosives or incendiary devices and included are banner and items that can be used to make improvised like locks and ann coulter is speaking about the debate. Coulter angrily talked about students who invited her and who are sponsoring her speech. They ran away. Day gave in. And then there was nothing i could do. Now, we have yaf saying, well, were going to strike a blow for the next speaker at berkeley. No, i want to win now. Can republicans ever win now. The Young Americans foundation was cosponsoring the coulter speech with two other groups. The republicans blame uc officials after they were told coulters safety could not be guaranteed. Students this morning are speaking out, saying outside agitators are coming onto campus and opposed to speakers from conservative backgrounds, some say with finals and school work, most of the students are avoiding latest developments around campus. I think most students on campus like the majority are ignoring everything that is happening. Most people i know dont know who ann coulter is anyways and then second of all know like all the craziness thats been surrounding the idea of her coming and speaking and stuff like that. The Berkeley College republicans and a third Nonpartisan Group are saying they still want to host coulter on campus if shes interested. We have reached out to the Berkeley College republicans, and see what they have to say about the republicans. We have not heard back. We are also here close to bankroft and telegraph. We understand theres going to be a rally here a little bit later on this morning with the socialist group. They are saying they are going to be here on the campus, opposing those coming from the so called alt right. Groups on both sides have said they will continue to come to town for rallies of their own, and that has led to concerns about a repeat of two violent protests already this year at berkeley Civic Center Park and the vie republicans we saw on the uc Berkeley Campus in february that led to the cancellation of an event, featuring another conservative commentator, milo yiannopoulos. Reporter United Airlines did have a busy morning with people here at checkout. You can see some of the folks that are checking in right now. These folks are the ones being promised once they sit in a seat on board, they will not be kicked out. Even if it is overbooked. The airline is also changing some of its policies and incentives to passengers, but not everyone is ready to forgive united no matter what they offer. On april 9th united Airlines Passengers recorded a Police Officer dragging passenger dr. David dao from his seat and down the aisle after dao refused to give up his seat to a flight crew member traveling to different airport. The passengers flying united say all the new policies are a step in the right direction. However, theyre going to hold back their praise until they have traveled a new times on united. In San Francisco International Airport, Leigh Martinez, ktvu fox 2 news. Delta airlines is now being criticized after a passenger was removed from a plane. The man was taken off a delta flight last week in atlanta after he insisted on going to the restroom as the plane awaited takeoff. A Flight Attendant told him he could not go. The cell phone video shows the exchange. The man went anyway. Regulations require if that happens, the pilot must return the plane to the gate. Delta agents told him to get off. He was interviewed by fbi agents. Delta refunded the flight but the man says he had to play three times the return for another ticket. Sheriff deputies are searching for a man who beat an 86yearold woman to death and injured her 61yearold friend in what appears to be a random attack. This happened after 6 00 on a High School Track in their neighborhood. Neighbors say the two women would go for an Early Morning walk just about every day together. The 61yearold was slightly injured. The 86yearold woman died at the scene. A witness saw what happened and called 911. Deputies searched the neighborhood but did not find the attacker. Extremely violent. We dont know the motive or the provocation is. Its super upsetting. Its super upsetting for no reason. She was taking a walk. Shes my moms age. Authorities say there were no children at the school when the attack happened. The names of the two women have not been released. The attacker is described as an africanamerican man in his 30s, 56, 155 pounds with short curly hair. Grief counselors will be available after the loss of a student who died suddenly while training to be a marine recruit. 17yearold Floyd Burrell was preparing to start boot camp. Last december he joined the brentwood delayedy program as recruit specializing in Field Artillery support. He was just beginning a workout with fellow recruits at Veterans Park in brentwood when he collapsened. He was training in collapsed. He was training in august. The coroner will conduct an autopsy. Analysts say the tech stocks could benefit from a tax break that were talking about in washington because those companies could put that money into development, acquisitions, maybe even hiring. American Airlines Reports First Quarter operation this morning and it comes as the Airlines Announces plans to offer pilots and Flight Attendants a raise. The company is offering 8 to pilots, 5 to Flight Attendants but the unions for the employees will have to agree to the raises before they go into effect. Its designed to keep on pace with what employees at delta and united make. The increase is expected to cost the airline 230 Million Dollar this year, and 353 million in 2018 and 2019, and that stock is down 7 on that news. Big time of year for Home Improvement companies and stocks, as more people are doing projects around the house, many getting ready to sell their home at this time of year. Employers plan to hire more College Graduates this year with salaries starting at 50,000. According to a new survey from career builder, 74 of employers, plan to hire recent College Grads from 67 last year, the highest outlook since 2007. Most Business Owners say they are looking for people with majors in business, engineering and computer and information sciences. Restaurants in Santa Clara County will no longer be able to include soda, and other sugary drinks in kids meals. That ruling came from the board of supervisors this week in an attempt to fight obesity and diabetes. Milk and water would be the only drinks that restaurants would be able to include with childrens meals. If parents want their children to have soda or sugary drinks they will have to buy them separately and of course the details of the tax plan will continue to be one of our top business stories. Back to the cost, the committee for responsible federal budget analyzed the plan. Rough estimates, it could cost between 3 and 7 trillion just over the next ten years, so that could certainly hurt Economic Growth rather than stimulate by increasing the deficit. So very interesting. I think, you know, on the President Trump side, he said these tax cuts will spur business and reinvestment that they will pay for themselves, time and time again. Exactly. You see the tech stocks are rallying on the prospect of saving money on taxes. Were going to talk about a perk up at a number of Silicon Valley companies cant match. A bay area Sheriffs Department hoping to offer 24 hour child care in hopes of luring more employees. A plan by pg e is angering some residents, trees are on both public and private property near the lafayette trail on green here in the map. Pg e says cutting down the trees will give First Responders better access to Gas Transmission lines in emergencies. At first, pg e proposed removing a thousand trees but the city hired an arborist to work with pg e to save as many trees as possible. The analogy that i like to use is its really the same principle behind why you cant park your car in front of a fire hydrant, why you cant have trees, shrubs or other objects over a Gas Transmission line. It prevents Emergency Responders from having the quick access they need to make the public safe. Theres always alternatives, pg e needs to be talking to the homeowners in coming up with a solution thats going to work for both sides. One man started a petition on change. Org to stop the trees from being removed. City leaders say they have asked pg e to meet with the community to address concerns. No date has been set yet. The company says it will reach out to homeowners who have trees on their properties that may pose a hazard. The Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department is hoping to offer a special perk to the deputies and new recruits. The sheriff says she wants to offer 24 hour child care. Ktvus ann rubin reports. Reporter deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office understand this is no 9 to 5 job and with long and often irregular hours, finding child care can be a challenge. Just ask deputy desur who sees it not only with her own family but the newcomers, shes in charge of recruiting. Its stressful. It adds concern to the job, and it is something that you have to take into account. Reporter sheriff laurie smith would like it change that. She outlined her vision to offer deputies 24 hour on site child care. Try to find child care for an infant overnight, and when youre new and start the department, youre going to work nights for several years, and we want to make sure people come into Law Enforcement. Reporter the sheriff thinks more people, especially women would apply for Law Enforcement jobs if day care wasnt an issue. Those who spoke seem to agree. Many local companies provide or subsidize child care in order to attract and retain top tier employees. I would think that we in the county would want to uphold this standard as well. Reporter in this case, the sheriff would hire a nonprofit to run the day care like the Department Headquarters where theres already 24 hour security. The punishment proposal calls for 200,000 to prepare the site and 500,000 annually to run the program. Im so excited about it. I think it will be a huge benefit. We could do it at a reduced cost and make sure peoples kids are safe. They will be more valuable to us on the streets. Reporter if successful, the program could expand to other county employees like nurses. Deputy desur would like to see that happen. If you have that day care provide r right there, that would actually enable you to just kind of take a little bit of stress off of your job, and take a little stress off of your family and think about what youre doing for your job.
