They are working out a strategy on what to do about this fire. Ktvu fox 2 news Christien Kafton, you are at an Evacuation Center. You have the latest from cal fire, and what they expect today. Good morning. Reporter yeah, good morning guys. We had a chance to catch up with a cal fire spokesperson a couple minutes ago, and he gave the latest containment numbers, standing at 20 contained up over 10 containment. They are hoping for more continued good news today. The fire started late yesterday morning, 10 miles east of cloverdale. That fire has burned about 1500 acres. Now, the latest update we have, again, is that the fire is about 20 contained and about 3 dozen homes still in danger. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for geysers road from Pine Mountain road to geysers Mountain Resort road. Fire crews say they are making progress battling the flames and now crews are preparing for a long hot day on the fire lines. Its challenging with the terrain in that area, but we are hoping before the heat kicks in, were able to continue to do a lot of good work before fire activity potentially picks up. To give you a little context, the latest fire is only a few miles away from where the valley fire devastated the area last year. Authorities keeping a close eye on how this fire develops. Cal fire confirmed that there are no evacuees here this morning. Coming back out to the live shot, we are at the Evacuation Center here. Cal fire confirming for us that at this time no evacuees here this morning. Cal fire telling me that 90 or so people are believed to have been displaced from about 35 homes. Residents of those 35 homes, those 90 some odd people are likely staying with family and friends. The sun is starting to rise. The inversion layer is disappearing. Theyre expecting that the fire plume, column of smoke could start climbing again today. Theyre saying once the sunrises, theyll get a better sense of how the fire progressed and start working out a strategy again for today. Those crisp temperatures, im expecting youre feeling judging by your sweater are going to dissipate quickly here. Reporter they are anticipating those temperatures are going to climb rapidly today, but theyre hoping theyre not going to see the same winds that they saw yesterday. Certainly that can complicate things. High winds, rough terrain making things tough for cal fire crews on the line today. That leaves us to Steve Paulson. It will get warm fast. Hes right. I dont think the wind will be as bad today as it was yesterday. Theres an easterly or northeasterly breeze, and no relief in site. Unless a southeast breeze kicks in. 60s to start, although you can get a huge difference from 60s to low 80s depending on the elevation. But suffice it to say, its going to be a hot day. Does look better tomorrow. Speaking of hot, an tone Antonio Antonio so your summer, for pacifica, daly city, and much of the coast, you had it this weekend, youll have it again today. Tomorrow, the fog probably comes back. These are the record highs forecast for today. The forecast temps in the red, and record below that, close for many. Santa rosa may fall short. There will be many. San francisco 93. The record is 94. San jose and Mountain View look like theyll be in the mix. Heat advisory out, and you can imagine why. Its way above average on the temps. Northerly breeze was stronger yesterday. Hayward, offshore, northeast at 5. No help from the delta breeze either. 50s, 60s on the temps. Higher elevations, you can find 70s to 80 degrees for some. There are a few cool readings, but everything continues to rotate off the coast here, so thats an offshore breeze. Temperatures will be very high for some. Temperatures 90s to near 100 degrees there. Morgan hill down to gilroy south. Pardon me, steve. Those temperatures do sound hot. The commute is not doing that well right now on certain freeways. I want to start with 80 westbound as you head out to the macarthur maze from the carcinas bridge taking about an hour. Part of it is because there was a crash on the way, westbound 80 on willow. That crash has been moved to the right hand shoulder. You can see the traffic is slow coming off the benicia bridge heading out to this area. Theres a little break, and more slow traffic here, and again, even though that crash is on the right shoulder, the traffic is going to be busy. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza. And you can see traffic continues to move along slowly here. This is a typical delay for the toll plaza as you drive through. There have been no major problems. I do want to mention the traffic in contra costa is slow on highway 4 and 680, getting down to the walnut creek interchange, and 24 slow through lafayette. This is a slow commute, as you might imagine on a monday. 7 06. Lets go back to the desk. We want to give you an update on this mornings breaking news from houston, texas. At least six people have been injured and hurt in a shooting at a shopping center. A moment ago we found out the shooter has been killed dead at the scene. The gunfire first reported a few hours ago in the Southwest Corner of houston, texas. Now, youre looking at the pictures we see. At this point theres no official word on the extent of the injuries of the victims or a possible motive of this mornings shooting. Stay right here with mornings on 2. Well continue to update on that shooting this morning in houston, texas. Donald trump and Hillary Clinton will face off against each other for the first time this election tonight and the stakes are high with Clinton Holding a slight lead over trump in the most recently polls. Caroline shively has more from Hofstra University. Reporter good morning, to you, gasia and dave. And two polls say the race is too close to call. We know theres going to be a huge audience watching tonight, perhaps a super bowl sized crowd, up to a hundred Million People are posed to watch Hillary Clinton and donald trump face off. The debate stage is set at Hofstra University, and everyones wondering, who will take command of the race after tonight. Both candidates have been posturing ahead of time, with donald trump threatening to invite a former mistress of bill clinton to the debate after Hillary Clintons campaign invited mark cuban. Hes going to play games so the campaign brushed him back and i think they did a good job. Reporter clinton has years of experience on the debate stage. Trump battled his way through the crowded primary but this will be his first one on one. Trumps actual strength is as a counter puncher. My guess is if she went in there and handled him delicately, and he was respectful, he would go along. Reporter those close to clinton say shes going to focus on the issues, but some experts say she should come down hard on trump should they try to make her more likable or prosecute donald trump. I think that she needs to show strength. Reporter now, its a hard thing to show strength but not seem too bossy or pushy. Thats what both candidates are facing. It could get rough. Hillary clinton saying look, i understand this is a contact sport. Dave and gasia, back to you. Caroline shively at Hofstra University, thank you, caroline. Joining us now in the ktvu studios, ktvu political analyst joe tuman thank you for being here. Sure. Were looking ahead to tonight, were talking about style, and i want to focus on donald trump. Hes been able to handle some questions on national issues, international issues. Its really going to be a tough situation for him. Do you think hes able to handle those things, and give concrete answers . Well, handle them in the sense of trying to make an answer, sure, and sound like hes confident in what hes saying. This is a person with a very healthy ego, and sometimes that comes across as confidence, and voters like that in someone. Now, does he know the substance, has he done his homework. I doubt it. I think that he tends to, i dont think, i know that he tends to speak in generalities, he has in the last year, and sometimes his answers sound a little bit like his tweet. Its 140 character long answer and not a lot of substance to it, and so i wouldnt expect to see different tonight on that score. You know a lot of voters, who i think hope theyre going to get substance in these things. Even with the format being the way it is, which will allow them to clash with one another, theres not a lot of time for substantiative discussion on the range of issues that youre going to get, and so i suspect that mr. Trump tonight to answer your question, if we can move from what he says to how he says it, will probably mirror what hes done all yearlong, be himself, informal, thats how he reaches voters and sometimes in ways that are offensive, people still interpret it as being candid or honest, just say what hes thinking in the moment. Mrs. Clinton by contrast will be studied and will have done her home work, and come across as details. She needs to be careful not to be al gore i know the answer, i know the answer but sincere. People want to know shes not reserved and the rest of stereotypes that people have about her. Shes a real person whos thoughtful and does the hard work. Are these two being held to a different standard. Absolutely. Theres no question. Theyre also different people. Not just of different genders, but there is that sub text to the debate as well. In some ways, there are legitimate reasons to criticize her on her record, but you have to think sometimes some of the criticism has to do with the fact that shes a woman that has already broken one Glass Ceiling and might be breaking another. People have been dismissive of her. Lets talk about the fact that tonight could be the most watched president ial debate, not just in the cycle of three. It could be the most watched ever. A big audience, and these debates typical are. We use the super bowl for comparison in terms of numbers and sometimes for our audience, they need to know what the ratings are about. Having a big audience share is important. We measure in terms of the domestic audience. Truthfully, tonight will have a global audience. It was just a day ago that israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu was in town, because hes not stupid. Hell have to deal with one in a month, and everybody is interested because i cant think of very many countries on this planet that arent affected by the United States leadership, and whos leading the country matters. It will be a big audience tonight, and i think by the way, to answer your question, of the debates were doing, most likely the first will be most important domestically. We have a lot of early voting states in this country, and people have not quite made up their minds and this will be a chance to affect the early voters. The impact of the independent candidates on this debate and the millennials who may not like either one of them. Not having the other candidates in this i think makes them less legitimate. For mr. Johnson, the libertarian party, whats aleppo moment, which is something you dont want to have either candidate doing tonight, probably was the death nail for him. And they both had to be at a higher number in the polls to be considered on the same stage. Usually in the primaries you put everybody out there who can qualify but when you get to the last part of the dance, as it were. The networks a long time ago made a decision that they would include candidates, people who had a serious chance of winning and thats why were down to the two that we have. Not having those people i think is significant for them. It probably ends up helping mrs. Clinton in some ways more than mr. Trump because both candidates probably theoretically, are drawing Bernie Sanders voters who would have been going to Hillary Clinton. Not having there hurts their chance to take them. Joe tuman, ktvus political analyst. Thank you for joining us. Well see you again in a moment. Many people say they have decided who they are voting for. Dumbarton and san mateo bridge also getting a lot of slow traffic now. 7 33. Lets go back to the desk. Sal, neighbors in one part of the berkeley on edge right now after another shooting last night. This one left two people hurt. Ktvus alex savidge joining us live explaining how the police are responding to a recently increase in crime. Whats gone on . Dave, good morning to you, more officers are now patrolling in part of South Berkeley after several recent shootings over the past couple of weeks. Investigators are trying to figure out if any of those crimes may be connected. Just last night, a man and a woman were both shot on kings street off alcatraz. According to one neighbor, they were both sitting in a parked car. You can see shattered glass on the ground after what happened. 911 calls started coming into the Berkeley Police Department Just before 8 30 last night. One of the victims was shot in the stomach according to police. The other victim was hit in the leg. They were both taken to the hospital, and both the man and the woman hit by gunfire are expected to survive. Now, we have been talking with people who live in the area this morning. Many of them feeling anxious after this latest shooting here in this part of town. Were really surprised because we walk around the neighborhood all the time. We walk our dog at night, and early in the morning, so its scary to think that it happened just a half block away from where we live. Reporter and there have been a number of shootings in this particular part of berkeley over the past couple of weeks, including a homicide just last thursday night. Thats when a 19yearold man was gunned down as he stood on the corner of harper and fair view streets, standing there with a group of other people when someone opened fire into the crowd. No arrests have been made in connection with that killing and again, there have been other recent shooting in this area, and police are trying to figure out if there may be a connect between any of those recent crimes here, but in the meantime, you have a lot of neighbors who are concerned. Certainly dave, about this recently violence in this area, and the Berkeley Police Department Says they are putting extra officers on patrol here. All right. Alex savidge in berkeley, thank you. The San Mateo County Sheriffs Office is warning parents about a suspicious incident yesterday afternoon in san carlos that involved a man and a young boy. Deputies say a 12yearold boy was walking near Central Middle School when a man in a silver sedan pulled and offered to give him a ride. The boy threatened to call police and the man drove off. Officers dont know if the man was trying to help the boy or if perhaps he was a possible child predator. Its a little alarming to hear about it. I think we have heard about in other cases, a few months ago, people driving around in cars and engaging kids sometimes, so yeah, its a little scary. Deputies say the man was whitens about 70 years old with gray and white was white, about 70 years old with gray and white medium hair. This may be hard for you to believe, but theres a new report out that says rent prices are dropping in two major bay area cities. Ktvus janine de la vega is in San Francisco right now. So is this true and how long will it last. That is the question, dave. We really dont know how long its going to last. The average rent for a one bedroom apartment here in San Francisco, it went down about 250. The web site obodo says san jose and San Francisco ranked in the top ten on the new list for the biggest fall in rents for one bedroom apartments. The apartment rental report shows the average monthly rent dropped by 12 between august and september. In San Francisco, it decreased by 6 during the same time. The report says san joses average rent went from around 2800 a month to 2455 a month. And a one bedroom in San Francisco fell from around 3950 a month to 3700. Now, some people we spoke with this morning say they havent experienced that. I dont believe it. In San Francisco, the rent is really really high every day. I mean, i feel like i missed out because i moved recently, and i got locked into a one year lease, which is frustrating because any drop in rent prices is obviously amazing because theyre so inflated here, so now i have to wait until next march and hopefully it will still be in that lower range. Reporter now, if you live in oakland, the news wasnt as good. Rents continued to go up there from 2250 a month to around 2300. Thats a 2 increase. Were really not sure whats behind this sort of falling trend, but some insiders are saying it looks like it may be flattening out, the real estate market. Were going to have to wait and see. Janine de la vega in San Francisco, thank you. Despite the drop in rent prices, another new report says people cant keep up with the rising cost of living in the bay area. Incomes are actually going up, but not enough to keep up with housing prices. The paper says the average bay area salary is up by 30 over the past five years, but during that same time, home prices went up more than 87 . Time is 7 38. Happening today, people in oakland will have another chance to weigh in on what they want to see in the citys had next police chief. Theres a Public Meeting at city hall tonight. It starts at 6 30. Its the latest in a series of meetings to gather public input on the selection of oaklands new police chief. We have a full list of when and where the Community Forums are being held. Go to the mornings on 2 section and click on web lynns. The proposal web links. The proposal to create a Crime Fighting unit in the San Francisco Police Department will go for vote in november. Proposition r is designed to make sure Police Respond to property crimes as well as Violent Crimes with increased foot patrols and other methods. Critics say it is not realistic, and could create Police Staffing problems. A new rule means if you see a dog trapped in a hot car and you want to break the window to save the animal, you wont be punished for doing so. You wont be breaking the law. Over the weekend, governor jerry brown signed a bill that makes it legal to smash a car window to rescue an animal trapped in a hot car. Several dogs died inside a hot car. Supporters of the law say it will help save many animals. People can now they can be a Good Samaritan and not worry about breaking the law, not paying the damages for the broken window. You have to have called Law Enforcement, you have to have made sure the doors arent unlocked before you break a window. Under the law, the person rescuing an animal, must say at the scene until police get there. The rescuer can take ownership of the animal. The neighborhood street lights may be costing you valuable sleep time. The American Medical Association issued a warning, saying the l. E. D. Lights give off blue lights, disturbing sleep rhythms, and increase the risk of Serious Health conditions, including cancer and heart disease. Now, this research could prompt some cities like San Francisco to reevaluate the intensity of l. E. D. Lights that they installed. Coming back to work, especially having your first baby can be emotional and difficult. Put that guilt aside. New Research Shows there are very positive effects on children whose moms work outside the home. Pam cook back in the studio with the research. You have a special guest to talk about this. Yes, i do. Do you work, are you home with the kids. A question that makes parents cringe for many reasons. For working moms, that comes with a lot of guilt. New research out of stanford has good news for working moms, and joining us now is the author of happy woman, happy world, i love that part, the womans code. Thank you so much for coming in and talking about this. The email and book captured my attention as a working mom because the working or staying at home question is a bit maddening to moms because it insinuates the Woman Working at home is not working and for those of us who work, we do a lot of that stay at home mom work, cooking and cleaning, and making lunches and all of that. So how does this play out. You said youre going to get rid of the guilt. The big thing about working moms is guilt. Every woman i have ever met its about guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt. This study says that children of working moms are more independent. They are more together. Women who work spend more time with their children and the kids make, in the long run, more money. 23 to be impact. And end up in more supervising roles. How can you attribute that . The argument probably would be for people who dont think moms should work in particular is theyre more independent. Is it because they have to be . I think so, because, you know, youre a working mom. Im a working mom. We dont have time to mess around. Its like it needs to be down, so were more scheduled, were more focused. Because we need to cram this much in this much time we have available and its on schedule. And youre saying working moms make more quality time often with their kids because there is just a window of time. So its not just running around. You actually set aside more time, more quality time. Correct, and the study shows that its really the quality time that is going up by 7. 8 hours per week. Its a significant amount of time. Talk about this later in life. You captured my attention that the children who have been raised in a home where the mom is working, they succeed in careers, theyre more independent roles. Yes, so what we found, the men are not really changing much, but the women, it makes a huge difference. The women suddenly are in supervising roles, pushing harder, demanding more money, and they make, compared to the group that is growing up with stay at home moms, 23 financially more secure because they just make more money. You said the men of these working moms actually are more family friendly. They spend more time with their families, then. Really, this is like a win win for everybody. The men are always like, youre not doing enough, but the men who you are, you know, raised by working moms, they do take care more of the household chores and they do tend more to family members, family care. This is a look at some of the commutes that are very very slow this morning. Bay bridge, even the car pool lane, i look down and i see the car pool lane thats slow, and that usually is a signal that theres something west at the bay bridge. Might be something just happened. Im not seeing an accident here. Im looking at the bay bridge, and the car pool lanes are slowing down. Not a good sign. Moving along and taking a look at 880 northbound. You will see that traffic is going to be okay as you get up to the 880 interchange. A lot of slow traffic in the east bay, 80 is a mess from the carcinas bridge. 680 from concord to walnut creek, and the south bay, all of the ways to get into cupertino, and sunnyvale are packed. We have had a couple of accidents, the latest northbound 101 near blossom hill road. The damage is done, and the crashes are just like adding insult to injury because it has already been very slow in the valley. 7 49, lets go to steve. And 26th. Im mike mibach. And im gasia mikaelian. We continue to follow developing news. A large fire has forced 90 people to evacuate their homes. More of that hot dry weather today has firefighters concerned about the fire fight. Our Christien Kafton has been following the story throughout mornings on 2. You were at the Evacuation Center in healdsburg. Now youre in cloud coverdale, youre hearing firefighters are bringing some good news from overnight. Reporter yeah, good morning, we are here in cloverdale, a little bit closer to the fire, and since we have gotten this much closer, we can smell the fire. Amy head joining us from cal fire to give us the latest stats. You have a better chance to see how the fire has progressed. The fire is about 1500 acres, 20 containment. Crews made progress upping the containment numbers. Reporter certainly good news there. Lets talk about what the bad news was was the weather yesterday and the conditions youre facing. Were going to face similar conditions as yesterday. The temperatures are going to be relatively the same if not a little bit higher. Hopefully not the winds that were seeing, the red flag warnings have subsided so well be watching the winds closely, and they have some steep terrain they are dealing with out there and a hot dry day. Reporter very hot temperatures, steep, and you were explaining that the roads in and out are very narrow and windy as well, so its difficult getting equipment in and out, is that accurate. Correct. Its about 10 miles in from where were located right now. Its a very long windy road from gravel to pavement and its just very steep back in there. Theres going to be a lot of Fire Equipment coming in and out of the road as we do our shift change from yesterdays crews to fresh crews coming in today. Reporter looking forward to today, what are you anticipating today, whats the plan of attack to get the sawmill fire under containment. We have got a lot of equipment out there already. Were going to have our air attack up here very soon, so well assess the needs for our aircraft, but we also have bulldozers in there, hand crews, a lot of fire engines. The plan of attack is to continue building the containment line all the way around the fire. Reporter thank you so much for joining us this morning. Guys, at last check, the amount of a evacuees stood the same, about 35, 36 homes in all evacuated. That means about 90 or so people who were dispolice stationed. We were at that Evacuation Center earlier. We actually left that area because there were simply no evacuees there. They believe the 90 some odd evacuees are staying with friends and family in the area. Thank you. Turning to the weather, lets bring in steve, and weather conditions playing a big role today, would you say yes or no. Not as big as yesterday. Very hot conditions. Theres an offshore breeze continuing. It doesnt seem to be as strong. It did cool off in some of the lower elevations. The Higher Elevations are in the 80s. Thats steep terrain theyre fighting. I dont see how theyre not getting at upper 90s. Temperatures starting off warm. It wont take long. There could be a soul breeze later in the day. Clear and calm, lower russian hill. Fog free in the city this morning, and i think its a she, that picture is gorgeous. Its a Beautiful Day in the city already. No fog this morning. It will be a record setting day in the city, close, close, i should say. 93. The old record is 94 in 1992. Mountain view looks like they will set a record. Santa rosa probably falling short. Oakland airport will be in there as well. Theres a heat advisory out and those temperatures are 20, 25 degrees above average for some. Northerly breeze, no fog offshore. Wind at hayward, offshore at livermore, south, southeast san jose, maybe a sign of things to come. Its not going to be enough to cool things down. Higher elevations are warm. The coast looks like a warm pattern today. Look for temperatures to be in the 80s, 90s, to near a hundred degrees sal. Thats hot, steve. Yes, it is. If you have love lived in the bay lived in the bay area all your life, september, october, sometimes this happens. Lets go out to the east shore freeway, westbound 80 traffic is going to be busy. 49 minutes. Thats not a good commute as you drive to the macarthur maze. Bay bridge toll plaza is also backed up for a 25 minute delay. Those metering lights are still on, and are on kind of slow. We have a lot of slow traffic in the inner core of the east bay. If this is your commute on 880 it slows u solid down slows solid down to the southern part of fremont. 8 05. Lets go back to the desk. We are following developing news out of houston on the active shooter situation which began a few hours ago. City officials have entered a News Conference. Are hours away from the first debate between the two president ial nominees. The stakes are high with Hillary Clinton holding a slight lead over donald trump in the most recently polls. Caroline shively is life at Hofstra University in new york. Good morning, caroline. Reporter good morning to you, gasia, the race is getting tighter, with polls showing its too close to call. There could be a supersized audience watching tonight with a hundred Million People predicting to tune in and watch donald trump and Hillary Clinton foundation off. The face off. The American People expect Hillary Clinton to do well, and there are lower expectations for donald trump. Reporter the debate stage is set at Hofstra University, and everyones wondering, who will take command of the race after tonight. Both candidates have been posturing ahead of time with donald trump threatening to invite a former mistress of bill clinton to the debate after Hillary Clintons campaign invited mark cuban. Hes going to play games, the campaign brushed him back, and i think they did a good job. Reporter clinton has years of experience on the debate stage. Trump battled through the crowded primary debate but this will be his first one on one. His strength is as a counter puncher. If she went in there and handled him delicately, and was very respectful and we got a very boring debate that hed go along. Reporter those close to clinton say shes going to focus on the issues. Its going to be about policies and how hers differ with donald trump. Reporter some experts say she should come down hard on trump. Should they try to make her more likable or prosecute donald trump. I think that she needs to show strength. Reporter later this afternoon, both candidates will do a walk through separately. No cameras will be allowed in there, and then they will meet more 90 minutes. No commercial break. 890890 90 minutes of hard conversation. Joining us to talk about the debate is our political expert, joe tuman, thank you for coming in this morning. Lets talk about the undecided voters, after a year and a half, im surprised theyre still out there, but they are there. They are looking for clues tonight. What are the clues, and what are they looking for. Lets define who were talking about. Were talking about a group thats 6 to 8 of the electorate at this point. Many of these people as independent voters may include some of Bernie Sanders progressive voters who are a little bit disaffected, have not followed bernies lead saying vote for Hillary Clinton, and they are at risk not of voting for one or the other but not voting at all. Motivating them is not just convincing them for voting for Hillary Clinton or donald trump, but staying in the game long enough to make a difference. Without them, this race is extremely close, and the person that it hurts if they dont turn out to vote is Hillary Clinton in this case, so thats the group were talking about. Now, what motivates them, i think theyre very much in positions that these candidates will be taking on a number of issues that are important to people like sanders voters. As long as they address the issues. If i see the candidates starting to dodge questions. Its the sort of thing that pushes them into im not going to vote. Its critical both do that. Having said all of that, how do they engage the voters and what are the,s that matter to them. Most polls say that the economy is most important to everybody. National security is another one that involves terrorism, some of the stories we may be talking about sadly this morning as well. But beyond that, it has been more of an issue in the last couple of weeks, last couple of months, dealing with the racial inearthquake i inequities in this country. Mr. Trump made headlines, saying he wants to reinstate stop and frisk, which is controversial in the African American community, and latino community, and had mixed results. There are a lot of studies that say it didnt produce the best results. Mrs. Clinton takes a more measured perspective of that, but she is mistrusted by many of the same sanders voters. How they handle that, i think will make some head way with those voters. A lot of people want to know which donald trump is going to show up tonight, teleprompter. I think hes going to default to his own sense. They have probably coached him about whatnot to say. What you dont want to do in a debate, and by the way, i have done these political debates, so the whole business about mark cuban, and jennifer flowers, you cant see the audience. Youre speaking to cameras, not just a domestic audience but a global audience. The last thing youre worried about is whether or not theres something who doesnt like you in the audience. They only matter if they make noise. That unfairly biases how people in tvland may interpret that. I think were going to get donald trump, the same guy we saw in the primaries. That is his natural speaking style, and what he wants to look tonight is himself. He wants to look like himself and also in a way that shows he has respect to the grafftous, the grandeur of the Office Another presidency. For off the of the president. Mrs. Clinton, being the substantiative, knowledgeable person. One of them like the kid that shows up to take the test, the other one who crammed and has always done the study. And works for both of them up to this point. The other thing that she has to do thats more important than him is she has to not only engage voters on the issues but she has to encourage people to turn out to vote because the way that she loses this election is if voter turnout is low. If the undecided decide im not going to play. In colorado, ohio. , pennsylvania. Thank you so much. More people expected to watch this debate than any other president ial debate this season. Perhaps ever. A lot of people already know who they are voting for. Millions of people will watch. Their question of the day to you is this, why are you going to watch tonights president ial debate. Let us know what you think, post a comment to the ktvu Facebook Page or tweet us using that hash tag, catch even tach ktvu. And we are Live Streaming on the Facebook Page and will have a post debate show with highlights, viewer reaction, and analysis. It starts tonight at 6 00 here on ktvu. Time is 8 12. It is getting better. Things are a little bit looser here on the way to the tunnel. 680 is slow. When you get to the bay bridge, theres a 20 minute delay. Thats improved just a little bit as well. 880 slows, and very slow all the way down to hay ward. Thats not unusual. If you get to the other side of the bay, its going to be slow, and we keep watching the south bay. These freeways do not seem to be improving at all on northbound 280, and 280 is slow for almost the entire run from 101 to 85 in the main part of the south bay. 8 19. Todays weather is going to be hot. Lets go to steve. It is indeed. Not just inland. Coast and bay as well. Some areas are running well above average, and its getting warm quick here. San joses 98 would tie. Salinas, monterey would be close as well. Santa rosa will fall short. Still very warm. Raquel says morning sp, who left the oven on. Feels like 70 in the miss. I think it will be close to 93 for them. Its very very warm to hot, and the north wind will take care of that, or an easterly breeze, already offshore oakland, offshore hayward. Theres no westerly breeze that i can find that amounts to anything. 50s, 60s on the temps. Calistoga, 78 degrees, have some low 50s around napa, warming up quick. 39 up in truckee. 54 ukiah. Fog maybe tomorrow, but until then, everything says sunshine and warm to hot conditions. Probably by wednesday. Some of the inland temps will come down a little bit coast and bay tomorrow. Back to the desk. We are learning more this morning about a shooting in the city of berkeley. It happened last night. Two people were injured. Ktvus alex savidge joining us live now, and alex, officers, what are they doing now to stop this recent spike of violence . Influx of more patrols on the streets. Yeah,. Absolutely, mike, you know, they have had issues here in this particular neighborhood. We are in South Berkeley this morning, and they have had several shootings over the past couple of weeks and officers are stepping up patrols, trying to make sure they can deal with violence in the area. Theyre not sure if all the shootings were connected. We know last night it was a man and a woman who were both shot here on king street, right off alcatraz. You can see the car window was shattered by the gunfire last night. Berkeley Police Responded to this neighborhood, just before 8 30 or so. One of the shooting victims had been hit in the stomach. The other was hit in the leg. The man and woman were taken to the hospital, and both are expected to survive. The shooter sped off in a sedan according to investigators and of course people who live nearby, many of them heard the gunfire, and they are on edge after this latest shooting. Something like this happening in our community is definitely frustrating. I mean, people shouldnt be getting hurt like that, and it just makes us feel less safe. Taking care of violence is our number one priority. Like i said we have additional officers on the streets to prevent this from happening, and respond. If members of the community see something, you know, we cant do it without their assistance. If they saw something last night or with regard to any of the recent crimes that have occurred, please give us a call. Reporter the community input, according to sergeant frankel is vitally important. They need neighbors to step up and report what they see. There have been several shootings, including a homicide last thursday night when a 19 yearold man was gunned down while standing with a group of people at the corner of harper and fair view streets. No arrest made in connection with that killing and there was the double shooting that happened last night, a man and woman who were injured by gunfire. No arrests made in connection with last nights shooting either, and again, mike, the big question here is, and one that Berkeley Police are trying to answer is whether any of the recent shootings may be connected in some way, as they investigate a possible link between any of these crimes.
