Inland will come down a few degrees. 60s by the coast. 70s around the bay. 80s through the inland. Sal, 7 03. You have a pensive look there. The carlson accident we have been talking about on 80 is really slowing traffic down. I want to go right to the eastshore. 43minute drive. That time is a little bit more than we like to see. In the last few minutes i have noticed more people getting through on the east shore. For a while it looked kind of empty in berkeley, and thats because people were being held up, up the road. They are clearing the accident and the traffic is going to start moving through coming down. But its way behind schedule driving down towards the berkeley area out of hercules. Please give yourself extra time. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza. You will see that traffic has been slow this morning for about a 25 to 30 minute delay. Back to the maps. That big fire thats burning at a Community Center in millbrae. Ktvus alex savidge on the scene. Reporter yeah. Gasia, good morning to you. Yeah, this fire continuing to spread through the Millbrae Community center this morning. Crews having a tough time trying to control the flames. The fire spread from one portion of the building where it was mainly burning and it moved to another portion. I want to bring in chief john cameyer. He was just walking by. Where do we stand right now . Worse off than we were before . Yeah. So we have extensive fire in the attic. The attic was fully involved getting to the structural members. So that created difficulty to get ahead of the fire. So right now we are looking at, as you can see, Severe Damage to that. We are trying to contain it and get it controlled from there. Unfortunately, this fire was ahead of us. We are trying to keep it contained to where it is right now. Reporter and as you were pointing out earlier, its an older building. So you dont have much in the way of fire breaks. Nothing to stop this thing from burning through the attic . Right. Probably 60s, 70s building. Thats where the challenge was. It was consumed up in the attic. Thats difficult for our crews. Luckily, no injuries. Nobody got hurt. Unfortunately, we have a resource for the community thats going to be affected right now. Reporter a huge loss, i know. Lastly, we asked you about the cause. Anything standing out at this point . Do you have a fire that starts very early in the morning at an unoccupied building . Yeah. Unusual circumstance. I cant comment on the investigation. We are going to look at everything and see if there was any potential security cameras around. The courtyard is right next door. We are going to look at everything right now. Until we have further information, i cant comment. Reporter appreciate you taking the time. Its probably going to shall, as you can well imagine, a good portion of the day. Fire crews trying to fully control this fire and put out all the hot spots here. This fire continuing, unfortunately, to spread through the attic space and burn through the Millbrae Community center this morning. I want to point out a couple of things. There is another concern here. There are a number of kids who are beginning to arrive at this hour for a summer camp that was supposed to take place or had been taking place inside the Recreation Center here, unfortunately. I talked with a representative from the city and they have some people who were on hand. So as parents begin to drop off their kids for that camp, the dropoff was happens at 7 00 in the morning or begins at 7 00 in the morning. They are moving all of those kids over to Taylor Middle School near. But so that is one unfortunate impact here from this huge fire at the Millbrae Community center. We will send it back to you, gasia. Okay. Thats the immediate repercussion. So much more than just serving School Children in that area . Reporter it does. It serves kids here, obviously, during the summer months. They have camps. Its a resource for everybody. Everyone. Young and old through this community, they use the resources here. They use the facilities here. And obviously whats burning here is the building. It has not impacted necessarily the park, the other facilities here on the ground. So its contained to the building, which is certainly the good news. Yeah, this is everybody just walking out of their walking out here seeing this fire this morning and, frankly, most people stunned at what they are watching. Everybody sees this as a major loss for this community. Thank you. We will bring you back through the morning. Time is 7 13. Southwest airlines and its passengers facing major problems right now. This might be the last really kind of a cooler pattern. Temperatures are showing signs of warming up over the weekend. Allen peterson says thick, heavy fog in the tops of the trees, but not on the vines in geyserville. Well, thank you, for that. Speaking of the vines, we were out in livermore on tuesday. Very nice. The big boomers are in arizona. But they are thinning out down there. Still some in northern arizona, up in the four corners, but not moving up the sierra. Still looking for that to happen. Maybe in a week or so. Not right now. A system up to the north will cool us down today, but then signs point towards High PressureBuilding Back in on the weekend for a bigger cooldown. 60s, 70s, 80s, a few 90s. I think four or five degrees cooler than yesterday. 66 alameda. Low clouds and fog. 78 san jose. Down two from yesterday. Cupertino at 81. 62 in the city. 72 san mateo. 79 in palo alto. A little system right there, that guy i think is going to usher in a cooler trend. Upper 80s far enough away from the coast. 60s, 70s closer to the water. Sal, 7 32. Now you know why people like my dad wanted us to be there early. 8 00 flight, we are there at the airport at 3 a. M. Pretty much. My dad was exactly the same. I would rather be at the airport than stuck in that traffic. Right. We could see a slowdown. You know what . Lots of times he was right. Good morning, everybody. Lets go out and take a look the toll plaza westbound. Now, if you get on the toll plaza, if you get on this bay bridge at 3 a. M. , your problems are solved. There is none of this traffic. Right now we are coming up we are at 7 33. It is backed up for a 25 or 30 minute delay. Not bad. I want to mention that todays Silicon Valley commute seems to be a little better so far than yesterday. It was jam packed. 101 is slow in pockets from about the capital expressway up to mountain view. 7 33. Back to the desk. If you plan to Fly Southwest Airlines today, get to the airport early. Maybe two to three hours early. You saw our pictures minutes ago. There are long lines at southwest because of a technical problem causing delays and cancellations coast to coast. Steve joked around saying now would be a good time to have a sky cap help out. Well, unfortunately, thats not going to happen. This is the sky cap line outside southwest terminal 2 this morning. One line extends near the baggage claim area in terminal 2. There is another line that extends to the Halfway Point towards the International Terminal in terminal 1. The advice, as you mentioned, if you are flying on Southwest Airlines, even though the airline says it is recovering, arrive early. Two or three hours early, in fact. This is the residual effect of all those cancellations and delays yesterday. This morning southwest says they have canceled more than 220 flights across the country. Yesterday that number, according to the airline, was close to 700 flights canceled. Hundreds more delayed because of some kind of performance issue. The computers were down. This morning when we arrived in line to check in, check in bags, it was definitely long. The computers working. Again this is that residual effect from yesterday. Many loyal southwest flyers say they have never seen anything like this. The computers were completely down. I have been flying for 30 years. One million mile flyer. I have never in my 30 years of flying seen Something Like that. You cant call anybody. Just got to go with what you are given, which is it says we are on time. This line says otherwise. Reporter yeah. You know, we checked in with the website flightaware. Com. They report nine flights out of sfo are canceled. If you are flying southwest, about five at san jose, and 12 here in oakland. As we take it back out here live, guys, boy, this line, i have never seen anything like this. When i fly out, whenever ahead out the airport, oakland is the place do it for me. Its typically shorter lines. This is outside to check in your bag. Its not any better inside. If you are flying out of oakland on Southwest Airlines, arrive two, three hours early just because you have to deal with all of this from those Technical Glitches from yesterday. Back to you. We see the chaos. Request quickly, have you heard the prognosis of when this might clear up . Reporter no. We havent. There was a statement leased early this morning from southwest saying they are working to recover. It looks like the Computer Systems are working. This is just the effect of what happens. You have all these all the workers trying to get people from the flights that were canceled yesterday. And we have heard so many stories of people trying to get on to a flight. The person that you heard, the gentleman that you heard from that first soundbite was actually flying from sacramento to los angeles. He drove to santa rosa. Couldnt get a flight out of there. He drove to oakland and couldnt get a flight out of here. So he is out of luck. He says he is going to go home and say to his Business Partners he couldnt make it to los angeles. He said i wont be voting for Hillary Clinton. He said he would be watching. He will be waiting. He may not even vote for trump. Talk about some of the protests that we saw yesterday. It was an exciting day inside the convention. Outside as well for a different reason . Reporter yeah. This is the first day that we have really seen sort of the hardcore protests that we thought we were going to see this week. The biggest was the flag burning. A couple men got in a fight. One man was spraying lighter fluid on a flag. He lit it on fire. There was arrests. They attacked a Police Officer. They assaulted two Police Officers. They made an arrest there. Police handled things quickly. Definitely the biggest say of protests we have seen so far. There are more plans for this afternoon as well. What are you hearing about whether or not donald trump and his marriage address tonight accepting the nomination, will he be there are president ial as we have heard some people expect, or will he just lay it out there and be more trump than he has been . Reporter i like that. Even more trump than he has been. Well, manafort said he will stick more to the script. Especially after his wife Melania Trump and the plagiarism accusations that came up. The gunman who killed three Law Enforcement officers in baton rouge, louisiana reportedly told friends and relatives he suffered from postTraumatic Stress disorder. The opportunity today is for us to come out and interact with the community. Just be an open forum. There is no agenda here. Allow the community to come out and ask any questions that they want to. Talk about the weather, sports. I understand that Police Officers and the officers in their community are normal people, have normal concerns, similar lives to the life that the community leads. In light of recent activities and things that are happening nationwide, we understand that a small percentage of the community that feels that way, the predominant feeling towards Police Officers that we see in daily interaction is still positive. So we want the community to just know that were here, a part of the community, and here to support them. Reporter and if you get those questions about, hey, you know, i have been stopped before, you know, here in the bay area, you know . What will you say back to them about Building Trust . Its obviously very crowded in all the lanes getting over to oakland. At the toll plaza a lot of people have shown up late because of an accident. We had it at carlson. Wonder why is the east shore so heavy . The accident was cleared about a half hour ago, but the slow traffic remains. In the south bay traffic is going to be busy on 101, 280 and 85. Now we go to 580. That Altamont Pass commute, still heavy on 205 and 580. Lets go back to steve in the weather center. Thank you very much, sal. A bigger fog bank. A lot of the comments this morning are, man, it feels more falllike than sumert. Remember we get a little cooldown today. I think we get a little cooldown today. Todd smith. I mentioned some comments about some of the grapes out in the livermore valley. He said, hey, steve, i work at three steves winery. I have been there. When i was there for 20 minutes, they named it the four steves. [ applause ] just kidding. Heard your grape comment. The Sauvignon Blanc will be picked in about a month. Things are way ahead of schedule. Is that true . Remember, there are many, many, many wine countries now. Santa cruz mountains. Lodi. Livermore. Sonoma. Napa. Hard to believe, but 63 wineries now out in the livermore valley. Whod of thunk . Livermore will be 84 yesterday. 86 santa rosa. Down 4 today. Redwood city 82. After today though it likes we turn it up a little bit here. Foggy will be there. Its going to get suppressed. Around santa cruz and monterey yesterday fogfree. Temperatures went up. It was a beautiful day. There is a lot more low clouds. If its not there, you can probably see it. Feels like its coming in. The water temps on the cool side right about where they should be. More afro bust or a fresh breeze today. Westsouthwest 12. Northwest at hayward. The delta breeze is the key. Edie in vacaville says it feels cooler this morning. And john carol wrote me on facebook. He said, steve, i was born and i was raised in marin county and i never remember mornings this cool in july. So there you go. Thats just i get similar comments from many people. So thank you, john, for that. I believe you. 50 in woodside. 56 stanford. 58 palo alto. Temperatures will cool off slightly. West at sfo. Due west. 16 Miles Per Hour. Statewide 50s. Upper 40s ukiah. Sacramentos 58. Not bad. 55 in monterey. Monsoon cloud cover, moisture, thunderstorms still saying south. Not moving in the sierra. That little guy, that spin in the atmosphere is going to give us a cooldown today. Then it likes we will turn that High Pressure around and build it northward into the weekend for a warmup away from the coast and bay, but not on the coast, i think. Get a lot of 60s, 70s, 80s, a couple low, low, low 90s. This might be the coolest for a while. Maybe the last week in july as well. It looks warmer away from the coast. Maybe hot by sunday. Thank you. 7 51. Banning new construction because there is a water shortage. Pam cook will explain the Ripple Effect for that community. And now to our instagram pic of the day. This is from San Francisco. Check it out. Look at the picture. You can see the sutro tower in the background. You want to see your photos. Share them with us with the hashtag ktvu. I just picked us up 2 breakfast croissants for 4, when this bear attacked. With one swipe, it devoured one of the croissants. Then jack showed up, and took care of the beast, so i could escape. And thats what happened to your breakfast croissant. And yours . It survived. Enjoy freshly cracked egg with ham and bacon. Or sausage. Two tasty croissants at an even tastier 4 price. Its a deal youll devour. Welcome back to mornings on 2. 7 54. The water crisis in East Palo Alto is getting a lot of attention after a big decision by the city council. Pam cook is here now with more on that and also some stocks to keep an eye on in our money business. Pretty busy today. The bay area, ebay is helping the nasdaq. Stock up now 3 a share or 11 . Thats helping the nasdaq gain some ground. Checking in on the numbers, the nasdaq up almost a quarter of a percent. Opposite case for the dow. It is down a bit. But the s p kind of fluctuating. Pretty flat at this hour. Back to the water story. The city council in East Palo Alto has taken a dramatic step. The Council Approved a moratorium on all new construction because of an ongoing water shortage. For the past 14 years, East Palo Alto has used all of its daily allotment of water. However, city leaders say in order to proceed with new Development Projects it need an additional 1. 5 million gallons of water a day. Some Affordable Housing units, a Business Development that could bring 4,000 jobs, and a School Funded by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, the moratorium is for two years or until the city can get more water from another source. Where will they get it . They are asking to get more water from the utility. But also perhaps other cities that dont use all of their water. Have some extra . They can buy it. We will see what happens in East Palo Alto. But there is at least 11 projects now on hold because of this. Wow. All right. Thank you. Time is 7 56. Thousands of people packed San Franciscos streets last night to get deals at stores, restaurants, and bars, and also catch some pokemons. The event ran from 6 p. M. To 1 a. M. Look at all these folks. Pokemon go players were everywhere, from the embarcadaro and market streets to dolores park in the mission for the pokemon go crawl. People can catch some 150 pokemon characters in their surroundings with the game through the Virtual Reality of their phones. Pokemon scattered all over the city. Its crowded. Go out and make friends. Find new pokemon and find new cool places. We are catching pokemon. We are doing it while meeting people. Like i met with friends from high school that i havent talked to in a long time. So the game is really bringing people back together. For many businesses it was a chance to get some new customers, giving away Free Products with the pokemon and pokemon players met up and at a time when some say communities are being torn apart. The players say this game is bringing people closer together. Well, now lets check in with mike and gasia. Dave, final day of that Republican National convention. The last three days, well, you can say they have been met with controversy. Even one very big political bombshell. Straight ahead a live report from cleveland about ted cruzs refusal to endorse trump and what is expected today. Plus, firefighters in the city of millbrae working to control a massive fire that started early this morning at the citys Community Center. Well tell you about the devastating loss that this is to People Living in this city. Y. Good morning. We are looking at a bunch of slow traffic, although it seems to be improving on some of the freeways. We will run it down straight ahead. A little cooler today, but might be the last time we say cooler for five or seven days. Signs of a warmup on the weekend. But not today. More on that coming up. . Q breaking news. Firefighters remain on the scene of an Early Morning fire. You are looking at flames taken around 4 00 this morning at the Millbrae Community center. Flames can still be seen at this hour. Ktvus alex savidge has been there for us all morning. Now for an update, alex. Reporter yeah, good morning to you guys. You know, the Fire Department here in the city of millbrae was hoping to save some portions of this building. It unfortunately does not look like that will be the case as we continue to watch this fire burn and spread mainly through the attic of this older structure here. This is the Community Center. The Recreation Center here in millbrae on lincoln circle. You see fire crews here doing what they can. But i was told a short time ago by the fire chief here that things have really gotten worse. So just in the last hour, couple of hours this fire took off and got ahead of them. Let me show you the scene from a short time ago when we first arrived. This fire started about 4 00 this morning again at the citys Community Center on lincoln circle. This is, of course, a center that offers all sorts of services to people who live in this area. There are senior programs here. There is also kids summer camp that is held here as well. There is no word at this point on any injuries. So certainly that is the good news. Nobody hurt in this fire, and firefighters trying to figure out how it might have started at an unoccupied building at that hour of the morning. Of course, people who live nearby have come out this morning to see this fire and they are simply stunned by what theyre watching. I also had a chance to talk a short time ago with a City Council Member here in the city of millbrae. She talked about what a devastating loss this is for the community. Its tragic. This is where most everything in millbrae happens. We have senior programs here. We give out brown bags, food to seniors that cant get out. Were redirecting the summer camp for kids to the Caroline Shea center. Its just devastating. I cant believe it. Reporter look at some video here. We watched this morning as the Sheriffs Office drone was used as part of the firefight here. This is something we are seeing more and more. They have put that drone up in the air so they can get a nice aerial view of the fire. That also has thermal Imaging Technology on it as well. So they can pick up on some of the hot spots and try to figure out how the fire is spreading. Thats some of the technology that has been used to control this fire. Back out to a live picture, you can see this fire actively burning and crews from across the peninsula still working to bring this fire under control. You have firefighters who are here not only from the central county fire district, which serves the city of millbrae, but also the san bruno Fire Department, San FranciscoFire Department. Crews have come from across this region to try to control the fire that, again you guys, is actively burning right now. The real issue here is that you have an older structure and this fire got up into the attic and spread from there. Yeah. Four hours in, alex, you mentioned it has gotten worse for firefighters. But a specific reason is because it is an older structure, or is there more to it . Reporter thats really the explanation i got from the fire chief in talking to him. Early on when i first got here and was speaking to him, he had hope of if i can get you to pan to the lefthand side. The fire was mainly focused over here in this portion of the building. Its kind of a ushaped building. The fire was mainly focused in this particular section of the building. The hope was to be able to stop it from spreading to other portions of the building. That hope was essentially lost here. As we see a big portion of that roof just came crashing down right here in front of us. But essentially they were hoping to keep it from spreading to other portions of the building. The chief was really blunt with us when we talked with him last, and he said really things have essentially gotten worse. We will keep a handle on the situation. It would appear the Millbrae Community center is a total loss. Alex, we are watching that chunk that fell down. Looks like its hitting some trees. You can see the fire crews attack it with water . Reporter yeah, that happened while we were live. We may have been showing Something Else at the time. But it was sort of the eave of that building and part of a roof, and obviously given all the fire that has been up in that attic area, that section just came crashing down right here in front of us. It doesnt look like anybody was nearby when that happened. Thats the good news. The good news, i mean, obviously, this building is a huge loss for this community, but the good news is there are no reports of anyone being hurt. A perfect example of how dangerous it is for firefighters still four hours in. Thanks. Behind alex we saw gray clouds and skies. The story is similar on the oakland estuary. Steve paulson, weather is changing . Indeed. A cooler pattern today. Looks like warmer weather will return on the weekend. Today a little cooldown. Sunny for many. We will ease back a little bit on the throttle, if you will. Low clouds over san jose. It was patchy yesterday. So thats a sign that maybe a cooler pattern downtown. James says there is sun around the harbor. Crisp air. When will july start . It will warm up over the weekend. Its not on the coast. It will be for inland areas. Fog will retreat. We have a lot more this morning than yesterday. Thats for sure. The onshore breeze is still there. Maybe not as robust as it was a couple hours ago, but its still stronger than yesterday. Some 60s, but a lot of 50s here in the mix and some upper 40s as well. We had a few this morning. Look for the breeze to continue. Had a little bit more of a westerly component. High pressure builds back in on the weekend after a slight cooldown today. 80s to the un interior. 60s, 70s on the bay. We were looking at eastshore freeway and it was not you know, it wasnt good. Now that the crash has cleared, its been gone about 40 minutes, maybe 45, the freeway is getting a little bit better. 35 minutes to drive between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. Its getting back to what it normally is. The bay bridge we have a 25 minute delay. And there it is. We havent had a light commute. At the very least we are not seeing traffic that is terrible any more along the 80 corridor. Slow traffic in hayward this morning between 92 at 84. When you get to the south bay 101, 85, and 280 are slow. This is routine slow traffic and nothing out of the ordinary. 8 07. We are entering the final day of the Republican National convention. Tonight donald trump will take the stage to accept his partys nomination. This comes after a contentious last night where former opponent senator ted cruz did not endorse trump in a speech to delegates. Caroline shively live in cleveland. Ted cruz has responded to the criticism and there is not a single sorry in what he has it say . Reporter you are exactly right. I thought he would lie low. Not talk. Maybe come out next week. No. He came out swinging this morning. He said trump knew i wasnt going to endorse him because i told him two days ago. He said he spoke at the convention because trump asked me to. But you might remember that pledge that he took during a fox debate saying he signed something that said he would endorse the republican nominee. He said, and i love this quote, he said that pledge was not a commitment that said if you attack heidi, thats his wife, i am going to serve like a puppy dog. Thank you for attacking my wife and father. You remember how it got in the primary. Cruz, trump going at it. Cruz said i am not backing him because it got personal. Yeah, and there is a couple other things to tell you about this morning. Protest. We havent seen too many until yesterday afternoon. There was that flag burning. 22 people is the arrest record. They burned the flag. Police swooped in and got that one handled. There are having some more protests scheduled this afternoon, but we are not expecting anything too huge. The big headliner, of course, is the donald himself. He will speak tonight. Ivanka trump will be introducing him. She said this morning i am terrified. I have never done anything this big in this type of stadium before. But she is very shore that her father will hit it out of the park. Back to you. Caroline, besides ted cruz, other people did speak last night at the convention, including his son, eric trump, as well as newt gingrich. It seems like and of course mike pence. But it seems like the theme, and at least from our side here in california, the bay area, people i have been talking to, was really the family trying to reach out to all americans. People who are unemployed, to the police, to the military to say, hey, everyone, you can come out and vote for donald trump. No matter who you supported a year ago, two years ago or even possibly two months ago. Was that the sense out there in cleveland, that that was kind of one of the themes last night, was reaching out to all americans . Reporter 100 . I think you nailed it. I think they did it that way. They looked at the polls and see where he needs to make up the numbers. He has low numbers with minorities and with women and independents, where they think they can go. Folks that normally dont go republican. They may sit it out. They may vote for democrats. If he can get higher numbers among independents, those people who really like the idea of an outsider coming in and fixing government. If he can get those people, he might win this thing. Caroline shively live in cleveland. Thank you. This morning our ktvu question of the day ahead of Donald TrumpsConvention Speech tonight is. If you are a donald trump supporter, which issue would you like to see him address on the stage tonight . If you are not a trump supporter, is there anything he could say tonight to sway your opinion . Let us know what you think. Post a comment on our ktvu facebook page. And russia not represented in this years olympics . Details on the doping scandal and the crackdown now underway. Frances interior minister is being criticized for changing his story on whether there were police present in last weeks attack in nice. He initially had said local police were guarding the entrance where the attacker drove his truck. Now he is defending himself against a french paper call him a liar, saying National Police were farther down the promenade. Breaking news. Authorities say police took this action because the group had been discussing the use of weapons to potentially launch a terrorist attack during the Olympic Games, which begin in rio in just two weeks. Also new this morning, russia has lost its appeal against the ban on its track and field athletes from competing in next months olympics in rio. Just hours ago an Arbitration Court upheld an earlier decision to exclude the 68 russian athletes from the olympics. Todays ruling could influence whether the entire team is banned from the olympics. Bay area native won a gold medal in swimming during the 1960 summer games in rome. This becomes a big distraction for everybody. But it absolutely needs to be done. We cant have the integrity of the Olympic Games compromised. We cant have doping and we cant have cheating. A decision on russias fate is expected within the next few days. The last time russia was missing from the olympics was when it boycotted back in 1984. The games in los angeles, that was in retaliation for the u. S. Boycott of the 80 moscow games over the soviet invasion of afghanistan. Meanwhile, the drug lab in brazil in charge of testing olympic athletes will be open for business when the summer games begin. Yesterday olympic leaders announced the labs credentials have been reinstated after being pulled last month for failing to comply with international rules. Olympic organizers had been worried they would have to send drug samples abroad to be tested. Bart service is back to normal this morning after service in the transbay tube was temporarily stopped last night when a pickup truck ended up on the tracks. The truck crashed through a maintenance gate and went onto the trucks between the west oakland and 12th street stations at 7 40 last night. That caused systemwide delays. The train started running an hour and a half later. The driver of that truck was booked on dui charges. A crash was reported at 7 00 last night on the eastbound side of 580 in richmond. The tanker truck hit a concrete construction barrier. Drivers were told to take highway 37 as an alternate. Lanes were cleared before 2 00 this morning. How about this morning . Lets bring in sal. Mike, gasia, 24 this morning is still a little bit rough, but it is Getting Better. We can go to a live picture and show you that it is going to be a little bit slow approaching the bart station. Gets better after the platform. Slows again in lorinda to the oakland tunnel, or to the oaklandbound tunnel, and there are no problems in oakland. Looking at the toll plaza, thats a 20minute delay. Nothing out of the ordinary. It seems to be Getting Better as we get closer to 9 00. In san jose northbound 101, 280 and 85 are slow. We dont see any major problems as i push in a little bit. You can see the traffic is slow especially on 101 through sunnyvale. Its 8 17. Lets bring steve in. Thank you. Sir. A little bit more in the way of a low cloud deck this morning than yesterday. Some of it is burning back. A tall order to really kind of warm up San Francisco above average, which is 66 this time of year. Inland locations warmed up yesterday. Looks like they will ease back a little bit today. Then start another warmup as we head into friday, and the weekend showing signs of being warm to hot for some. Today a little bit cooler pattern. Santa rosa yesterday was 86 degrees. Today well go 82. San jose 80 to 78. Redwood city down three. Livermore 88 yesterday. Today 84. Dont be surprised if some upper 90s settle in by sunday. More of an onshore push today. It was stronger earlier. A lot more low clouds and fog towards santa cruz coast and monterey than yesterday. Westsouthwest 28. That is stronger than yesterday. So the delta breeze is there. Still some temperatures upper 50s, 60s, mainly low 60s. Brentwood a little warmer. A lot of low 50s this morning and a few 40s. Above calistoga 47. 40 in frans valley. And look for the sunshine giving way to temperatures here. But it will be near average, i would think, today. As long as that holds, its tough to warm up when its 28 Miles Per Hour out of the west southwest. Statewide. 50 in truckee. 90 las vegas. Palm springs 93. The heats there. You can see this trend as we get this to lift northward, but not the monsoon moisture. That continues to stay out of the truckee tahoe region. This guy right there will give us a cooldown today. Tomorrow will be a little bit warmer and i think more so over the weekend. Today 60s, 70s, mainly 80s. Should be a decent breeze for some out of the westsouthwest or a component of a southerly or westerly breeze. Peninsula 70s. Mainly 60s on the coast. And in the city also, but it looks warmer away from the coast friday and no doubt about it into the weekend. We are ready. Thank you. Big changes coming to papa johns pizza. Not the crust or the cheese or the sauce. Instead, which topping is changing and why you really shouldnt notice a difference in taste. But first, a push to give life. I will show you the traffic on the 280 freeway is still slow getting up to highway 17. A little bigger fog bank this morning. Signs of that breaking up already. It will be slightly cooler today. What about the weekend . We will have that coming up. 8 29. Welcome back to mornings on 2. Nice day at the coliseum yesterday for baseball. Steve, tough loss for the as. No worries. They are back tonight. The rays are in town. Were you there . I was not, but monitoring it. At least the weather was nice. Yes. Thank you. We do have more fog, low clouds today. Yesterday we started off clear. Some of that stuck on the san mateo coast and parts of the city to keep them below 65 degrees. Now its beginning to burn off. There are signs that maybe a slight little cooldown for inland temps that warmed up yesterday. Antonio in daly city 57. Some, a little bit of blue mixed in with foggy skies. Breeze from the west, and daly city and San Francisco, speaking of 62 today. 54. Whats average . 66 54. Tough to get over that average. Maybe the weekend temperatures will warm up. The fog has no problem forming. We are beginning to bounce off those morning lows. A lot of low 60s around walnut creek, danville. There is a little bit more of a breeze compared to yesterday when the temperatures jumped up. Westsouthwest 28 is rather decent for this time of year. A little system right there. That little guy. Once that goes through tomorrow, it looks like temps will warm up. 80s through the interior unless you are far inland. Maybe some 90s. Sal, 8 31. What would you give the traffic today . I would give it a b minus. Okay. Its a little bit slow on the east shore. Some of the other areas have been okay. Its kind of a mixed bag out there. You will see that traffic is going to be busy on the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. 33 minutes, which is down to about normal time. We had some heavy commutes. We had an earlier crash in richmond, el cerrito area that has been cleared. But the traffic is still kind of lingering, slow in that area. Lets move along and take a look at the approach to the bay bridge. Seems to be improving just slightly. Still about a 20minute delay. As we look at the main part of the bay here, hayward, san mateo, i wouldnt say the main part, the middle part. Dumbarton is better than yesterday. San mateo bridge is moderate. Plenty of slow traffic getting into the valley on 101, 85 and 280. Its a little better than yesterday. 8 31. Back to the desk. Lets repeat that warning this morning for airline passengers, specifically if you are flying Southwest Airlines. Get to the airport early. Maybe two, three hours early. Thats right. There are long lines at southwest because of a technical problem causing delays. Brian flores live at Oakland International with the lines just to check the bags extremely long . . Reporter yeah. Extremely long this morning, guys. Yeah. Two to three hours to check in your bags and get through security and get to your gate. Take a look. If you are familiar with Oakland International airport, its split up between two terminals. Terminal 1, which is international, and terminal 2, which is the domestic flights. This is one of two lines that goes all the way almost near baggage claim. The other line almost reaches the International Terminal. The advice, again, if you are flying on Southwest Airlines, even though the airline says its recovering, arrive as early as you can. This is a residual effect of the cancellations and delays yesterday. They say that most of the systems that went down yesterday are back online this morning. Despite that, southwest says today they have canceled more than 220 flights across the country as they try to get a handle on this problem through the Computer System from yesterday. Yesterday, the airline canceled 700 flights and hundreds more were delayed. We tried contacting southwest to see if we could get a better idea of what caused the technical problems. All they would say is it was some type of performance issue with multiple technology systems. Many passengers were surprised to see the long lines this morning. We spoke with a woman who was traveling with a threemonth old. Not only was she delayed this morning to portland, but last night had a twohour delay from that bart issue, from a crash. We are going with the flow, you know. Keep calm. Keep the baby happy. I have been flying for 30 years. One k on 1k on united. Million mile flyer. Reporter we checked with the website flightaware. Com. They report about nine flights out of sfo are canceled. About five canceled at san jose, and 12 here in oakland. Remember the long lines outside . Take a look at this. This is the security line. But what you get look. There is no lines here. But have to get past that mess from checking in your bag or trying to see if your flight is even heading out of oakland today. So you see the contrast between whats going on. Big mess trying to check people in. Arrive as early as you can if you are flying Southwest Airlines on any of the bay area airports. Did everybody get there ahead of time knowing about the problem, or is anybody being caught off guard and perhaps missing a flight because of the lines . Reporter well, yeah. We talked with a gentleman earlier who said that he got here and was just totally shellshocked at the long line, thinking the computer issue was revolved. He missed his flight. Another person was trying to get a flight from sacramento to los angeles. He drove to santa rosa. Couldnt get a flight. He drove here. Finds out his flight was canceled. We are hearing up a types of stories this morning. We are hearing positive stories as well. One woman is staying positive, going with the flow. They understand it is a technical issue. But again, and we are not going to sugarcoat it, arrive as early as you can if you are flying southwest this morning. Things are bad in the bay area. Just as bad out in sacramento. Look at video taken from when lines were very, very long. Ten flights were canceled in and out of Sacramento International airport. A new organization in the east bay is working to make the hightech industry more diverse. They opened this week in oaklands uptown neighborhood. Its run by two hightech entrepreneurs. The couple has pledged millions of dollars to transform oakland into a major hightech hub while attempting to achieve another important goal. We think tech can and should be diverse and inclusive. We think there will be more companies, more interesting products and services that serve greater markets. Reporter the hightech industry appears to have come up short in its recent efforts to become more diverse. Recent studies show only a small percentage of workers are africanamerican, latino or women. A practice known as shadow lobbying, political watchdogs say people in sacramento are not registered lobbyists but they try to influence government legislators. The proposed measure would compel suspected lobbyists to provide evidence they are not being paid to influence legislation. Critics say the proposal would require people to prove their innocence. More changes planned for a San Francisco state university.
