He says that the judge has his hands tied. He says that investigators were surprised that the plea deal happened pretty soon. One good thing about this plea is that to register as a 290 registrant which will follow him for the rest of his life. They could have done more in this plea. They could have mandated that he never work around children, that he never work around sedated patients, that he never work around the elderly. These are people who are vulnerable that this man should never go near ever again. Reporter two bills inspired by the brock turner sexual case are moving. One would make the Sexual Assault on an unconscious person the same as if the person was awake. And the second is the expansion of the definition of rape to include any unwanted sexual penetration. And a National Womens Advocacy Group will deliver more than a million signatures to call for the removal of the judge involved in the brock turner case. The families were traveling on i5 in grapevine near the town on gore man. The minivan they were in was involved in another minor accident with another car and they pulled to the side of the road. Thats when they were rear end bid a big rig. The van burst into flames and thrown into a ravine. The fathers were sitting on the drivers side, were able to get out, but they could not get the families out. Both men had burns while trying to get the families out. Reporter both men now in serious condition in the hospital. The drive of the big rig was not hurt. He is cooperating with the chp investigation of that crash. Here at home, zones police are trying to find who is behind two deadly shootings in the past two days. They happened in two different parts of the city. And people who live around here at the latest shooting that happened at 11th and san carlos say they are safe here. Now, so far, yesterdays shooting brings the total number of homicides in san jose this year to 24. Last year, at the same time, it there were 10. The mercury news report that if the pace continues as is by years end, san jose would have its highest homicide count in 24 years. The latest shooting happened in broad daylight on whats commonly referred to as greek row because its lined with fraternity and sorority houses. Two men were discovered inside the vehicle, shot several times. One man died, the other in critical condition. Most of the stuff happened near but nothing to this degree like the shooting. To a heart break storingy very close to home. Devastation for two bay area families after a terrible crash on interstate 5 killed two mothers and four children. The two families were traveling together, south on i5 on the grapevine and near the town of gorman early yesterday. They were in one minivan involved in an accident with another car. They pulled over the side of the road after being involved in a minor accident with another car. They were rear ended then by a big rig. The fathers were in the car but they managed to get out. The van burst into flames. Both men had to be restrained trying to get their families out. They had significant burns on their arms trying to get their families out. The driver of the big rig is not hurt and is cooperating with chp. A former Stanford Health care worker is expected to be sentenced for inappropriately touching patients while they were sedated and under his car. Some say that the plea deal sentence for this case is much too light, brian . Reporter there was some criticism even before the sentencing late they are morning here at the later this morning here at the san mateo courthouse. The judge is expected to give the sentence down to 57year old robert lastinger. Robert lasinger works as an anesthesia nurse at the Stanford Health care. He pled no contest to inappropriately touching two male patients while they were unconscious. There were four patients ranging from 16 to 62 years owed. Two of the charges were dropped as a condition of this no contest plea deal. He accepted it deal that callings for severing one year in county jail and no time in state prison. The judge can decide to sent plea deal or impose a longer sentence. As you mentioned, some people criticizing the plea deal as being too light saying its similar to what brock turner received for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on the campus. Yesterday on the 9, we spoke to an attorney who said that the plea deal should have added more conditions. The good thing about the plea deal is that he will be registered as a 290 registrant. But they could have done more. They could have mandated that he never work around children. That he never work around sedated patients, that he never work around the elderly. These are people who are vulnerable. This man should go nowhere near ever again. In the mean time, two state bills on spied by the brock turner Sexual Assault case are Going Forward. One would make the penalty on a Sexual Assault on an unconscious person the same as on a one should. About 90 minutes ago, a turkish flight safely landed in istanbul. 41 people were killed in that bombing on monday. 239 more were hurt. More than half in the hospital. Three suicide bombers blew themselves up during that attack the while no group has yet claimed responsibility, turkish authorities believe that isis did it. This morning, pope francis called it, quote, a heinous terror attack. One american who was in the airport at the time of explosions described the chaos. People were shooting on one side and we all ran the other way. And then bombs went off and people were going the other way and more shooting. We came out and after i think there was another bomb but im not really sure. The istanbul airport is a prime target for terror groups. Ktvus janine de la vega joins us from san jose to talk about the latest homicide case. You just spoke with police. What did they have to say . Reporter a Spokesman Says that in both of these cases, the shootings that happened over the last two days, out appears that the victims were it appears that the victims were targeted. They have conducted interviews and evidence that they have gathered. And especially in the latest shooting, they are looking for anything that may lead them to the suspect who shot two men. The two men were found shot multiple times inside a car found on san carlos and 11th street on the area right next to san jose state where many students live. One man died on the other in critical condition. Police do not think it is connected to another shooting that happened the night before in another part of the case. In that case, a man was found shot while sitting in his car. There are 11 homicide this year. Last year at this time, 10. Its everywhere, not just downtown. Its everywhere. Reporter the mercury news reports that if the pace of homicides continues by the en of the year, there would be 48 which would be the highest homicide count in 25 years. The paper says that Police Figures show Violent Crimes are up 5 to 6 over last year. Police tell me that homicides are unpredictable. We asked police what they believe is behind that up tick. To the latest on some of the wildfires in california. Evacuations are underway between forest hill and auburn along placer and Eldorado County line. The fire i go burning along the fork of the american river. It started yesterday in a remote area, hard for ground crews to get to. Its only 5 contained. As we have seen in other fires, cal fire says its pilots were grounded for a while because of a drone spotted over the fire. The deadly wildfire in kearn county is now 60 contained. The fire near Lake Isabelle ya has destroyed more than 250 structures and 73 square miles of forest since it began last thursday. An elderly couple was found dead apparently overcome by smoke. Some of the evacuation orders have now been lifted. Fire officials now say that they believe this will end up being the most destructive wildfire in kern county. New from overnight, the San Francisco fire Department Says that a fire that broke out over macys roof top was put out. There is no cause right now. The fire is under investigation. And the San Francisco Police Department, according news groups, is accused to hiding misconduct play Police Officers. The Contra Costa County public defenders say that they hid their misconduct records. Police in san leandro arrested three people accused of a deadly shooting. The victim a 28yearold man from can manteca attended that party.
