I cant say good because we have a lot of slow traffic out there. Lets take a look at 280 northbound. You can see traffic is going to be busy as you drive in san jose. As a matter of fact, its backed up from highway 101 on northbound 280 and weve had a couple problems along the way. Northbound 280 and 101 both have crashes. They didnt last for too many long but if i put it on the map here, you can see there are a couple spots where there is rough going. 85 is also slow. So the crashes we had they werent major ones but we did have slow traffic there. On the peninsula 101 is not too bad. But i think 280 is also a great bet for you. Lets talk about the toll plaza. Traffic here is backed up for a 2025 minute delay. There was an earlier stall on the bridge that got out of the way quickly. Now we have word of a crash on the east shore on the right hand side. That is west 80 at gill man. 7 01 lets go back to the desk. We are following a developing story. Over night call about a burglary in San Francisco ended with a Police Officer getting hurt. Ktvu fox 2 allie rasmus is live at that scene. Allie. Reporter gasia, this all happened around midnight in the Bernal Heights neighborhood. San francisco Police Officer was injured after police say a man driving a stolen vehicle hit him and pinned the officer against his own patrol car. This is the stolen vehicle you are look at. Police towed it away earlier this morning. There was visible front end damage to it. This happened when the man driving the stolen car tried to run over one of the officers and ended up pinning the officer between his patrol car. The driver and two other people were arrested. It was that white bmw. And then we seen guys flying down the street. Within minutes of seeing the car speeding down the street, police arrived. And five minutes after that she could hear the officer yelling for help. The officer was rushed to San Francisco general hospital. He is in stable condition and he is recovering from broken ribs and some unknown leg injuries. But again all three people involved in this incident according to police are in custody. There were the three tow trucks that took away the Police Patrol truck that was hit and the stolen bmw. Once they cleared the cars away everything was okay. 7 04 now. The city of San Francisco has reached a settlement with the state of nevada over controversial claims of patient dumping. You may remember San Francisco sued nevada to years ago claiming psychiatric patients were given one way bus tickets to San Francisco and little support. Many were in need of medical care. At the same nevada officials denied any improper patient care. San francisco supervisors still have to approve the agreement. Our time is 7 05. Heres the latest from oregon. Today students and staff at Umpqua Community college will go back to the campus, retrieve any belongings they left behind from last weeks massive shooting. There will be no classes today. Classes resume next week. In the meantime at Church Services religious leaders talked about the shooting. Antepresident of umpqua is grate and the president of umpqua is grateful for the support of the community. Nobody is without pain today. And so were here gathered in what we do in church but our heart is with everyone out there. Now that gunman killed himself after a shootout with police. And there are still conflicting reports if he targeted christians during that shooting rampage. A lot of questions remain unanswered as the investigation continues. Meantime here in the bay area a memorial and rally was held for the victims of the Umpqua College shooting. The people gathered yesterday until san mateo outside the Congregational Church to honor the nine people that were killed in oregon. Bells rang for each of the victims and roses were placed in their honor. There is also hope that this tragedy will lead to changes in gun roll laws. Dont forget we lose 89 people every single day to gun violence. So these Mass Shootings only amplify and then people Pay Attention but we are in a crisis. Gun control supporters say federal loopholes have to be closed. Even though its not certain if expanding background checks to include gun shows or web steals or private buy or web sales or private buyers might have prevented him from buying a dozen weapons. A man accused in a bizarre kidnap for ransom case is due in federal court. The grand jury indicted Matthew Muller for inducting Denise Huskins back in march. It also found one life board with no people on board. The ship had two lifeboats on board that could hold 43 people each. They will search for the other 32 crew members that were on board. They are definitely look for survivors. Crew members from the ship radioed on thursday say they were taking on water but the situation was manageable. They have not been heard from since. Generally its a slow commute. Lets start off with the east shore freeway. I want to talk about the drive time here on 80 between the carquinez bridge and the maccarthur maze. Now taking more than an hour to drive that stretch. Remember when there is no traffic its about 20 minutes. Its taking you three times as long to drive this trip. Just a lot of people on a feeling the commute will be just as slow. Moving along to the bay bridge toll toll plaza the traffic here will be slow as you drive into the toll plaza area and it has stayed that way on the bridge. A little bit slow on that span. I want to show you Contra Costa County it is a little slow. As we go to the south bay, all the freeways there are slow get into the west valley. Its kind of a theme we have a lot of slow traffic. Not that many crashes but a lot of slow traffic. This morning there are some new concerns about the safety of the bay bridge. There is a new report that says the main cable on a new span of the bridge is at risk of corrosion. Alex savidge is joining us live now. What is this all about . Good morning alex. Reporter dave, good morning to you. First the issue was cracked rods. Now they are worried about the integrity of the single steel cable that holds up the ages and the designer of the bay bridge has warned caltrans that the cables are in danger of rusting. Down inside the deck the steel strands that form the cable are exposed to the elements. According to the chronicle. Caltrans officials admit rainwater has seeped into is the anchorage in the past but the agency claim there is is no active corrosion right now. Caltrans uses dehumidifiers inside the anchorages but the agency says it may have to come up with a new plan to deal with water leaks. One thought is to wait for a storm that lasts several days and look to see where the water seeps in. You will remember bridge officials have expressed concern in the past that rods at the base of the spans tower could be corroded by the elements but according to the chronicle the lead designer of the bridge is even more worried about this new issue the possibility of corrosion on that main cable. Three universities in philadelphia sent out alerts about a threat of violence on their campuses today. The university of pennsylvania, temple university, and Drexel University all sent out the alert. The University Says the fbi warned them a social media posting threatened some sort of violence. What happened at 2 00 this afternoon against a University Near philadelphia. The cools plan to operate normally today but students are being urged to report any suspicious activity. Students at Summerville High School they go back to class today after four students reporteddedly planned a mass shooting there last week. The plot was foiled but a lot of parents are upset about the way they were told about this potential attack. Most of them received a voice message on thursday but they didnt know how serious the threat was. Several parents actually posted their concerns on social media. I got a text from my son who lives in washington asking me what is going on about this shooting plot. What shooting plot . If we can find some way to notify parents, just you know not to scare us but to let us know exactly what is going on. Now the School Superintendent says the voice message was deliberately vague because the investigation was still going on and he didnt want to give away too many details. The u. S. Supreme court has rejected hearing san jose antitrust challenge to Major League Baseball. The city helped to lure the oakland as to Silicon Valley but Major League Baseball backs the giants claim that it owns territorial rights to the south bay. That violated federal antitrust laws. Appeals courts had ruled against san jose and the decision will stand. That means san jose has no Legal Options left. That was among hundreds of appeals rejected by the justices. They will begin determining which cases they will hear during the next few months. Some of the more high profile cases will include a case out of texas. Regulating abortion clinics. Yet another battle over president obamas Health Care Overhaul to provide more control and another round from the university of texas over the consideration of race among other factors in college admissions. New developments in a deadly air strike in a hospital in afghanistan. A u. S. General now says it was Afghan Forces that asked the u. S. To target that location. Ten patients and 12 hospital Staff Members were killed in the air strike in the city of canada saturday. The nonprofit medical group say there is were no Taliban Forces at the hospital. Taliban gunman did seize the city for several days last week before afghan troops moved in. Oakland police want your help. Things are okay. Weve had a couple fender benders. We havent had anything major out there but we have a lot of slow traffic out there. Lets go to the east shore freeway. Its taking about an hour to drive between the carquinez bridge and the maccarthur maze. It has been quite a commute and when you get to the bay bridge, there is slow traffic waiting for you at toll plaza. It will take about 2530 minutes to get on but some of that traffic is getting slightly and by slightly just a little bit better than it normally is. From the capital expressway top Mountain View 85 is slow and so is 280. If you are driving on the peninsula, i would say 280 is the best bet but there is slow traffic in redwood city. Almost everywhere you look, its pretty slow out there for a monday. 8 02 lets go back to the desk. We are going back to a developing story in San Francisco. Over night burglary call took an ugly turn. A Police Officer ended up in the hospital. Ktvu fox 2 allie rasmus explains three people were arrested. Reporter that officer is recovering after police say a suspected car thief hit and pinned the officer against his own patrol car. It happened around midnight. Police towed away the stolen bmw. There was visible front end damage to it and that is because what happened the man driving the stolen car tried to run over one of their officers and pinned the officer against his car. The driver of the bmw took off and hit another police car along the way. Police were able to stop him and keep him from escaping. Neighbors heard and saw some of the commotion. We heard an officer scream. What did you hear . Help me. Thats all you heard. Reporter the officer was rushed to San Francisco general hospital. He is in stable condition recovering from some broken ribs and unknown leg injuries. But then again all three people were involved in this incident are in custody. New this morning the city of san jose has lost its legal battle to get permission for the oakland as to move to san jose. Just this morning the u. S. Supreme court rejected san joses claims against Major League Baseball. The courts decision not to take the case means an Appeals Court ruling against san jose will stand. San jose had contended that Major League Baseball was blocking the as move to Silicon Valley and it violated federal antitrust laws. Major League Baseball has been exempt from antitrust laws since 1922 Supreme Court ruling. That was among hundreds of appeals rejected by the court as they head back to court this morning. They will begin determining which cases they will hear during the next few months. Some of the more high profile cases will likely include a case from texas regulating abortion clinics that will leave large parts of the states without any abortion providers. Yet another battle over president obamas health care over haul. And another round from the university of texas for the consideration of race among other factors in college admissions. Three north bay car owners filed a Class Action Lawsuit against volkswagen. This adds to the fallout over the auto makerred a midding it installed software in millions of diesel vehicles. The press democrat reports a Class Action Lawsuit was filed by a healdsburg couple and another diesel car owner. They are sue volkswagen and a dealer for fraud and breach of contract. The lawsuit was filed in marin county. The paper reports volkswagen has not commented. What has been reported is that volkswagen executives are worried about the auto makers future and if it will withstand such a scandal. Nissan is recalling 218,000 versa sub contact cars. Now this recall is for cars from the 2007 to 2012 model years. It effects only cars bought or driven in states that have really cold weather. The former Federal Reserve chairman ben bernanke said they should have gone to jail for their roles in the crisis. Brokerage firms and banks paid bees in fines. Bernanke wouldnt reveal the names but said there should have been investigations into who approved or carried out the actions that triggered the great recession. Disney has a new round of pass options from disney land and disney world in in many cases the passes cost more. First the issue was cracked rods and now there is a problem with the cables. Alex savidge is joining us live now. What are the experts worried about with this corrosion thing . Reporter good morning, to both of you. The focus is on the single cable that holds up the entire eastern span of the bay bridge and the concern is over corrosion. Right where that cable attaches to the bridge deck. According to the San Francisco chronicle there has been rainwater that has leaked into those anchorages and the lead designer of the bay bridge is in danger of rusting and it could compromise its integrity down the road. Up on the span itself that cable is protected from wet weather by a steel jacket but down inside the deck the steel strands are exposed by the elements. Officials admit that rainwater has seeped into those anchorages in the past. But right now there is no active corrosion. Cal tran uses dehumidifiers inside those anchorages but they may have to come up with a new plan to deal with water leaks. One thought is they may have to wait for a long storm that lasts several days and then look to see exactly where the water seeps in. Now of course you will remember bridge officials have expressed concerns in the past that rods at the base of the main tower could be corroded by the elements but according to the chronicle the lead designer of the bridge is even more worried about this latest issue. Again that is the possibility of corrosion on that main cable and again as we show you here in the live picture that is the main cable that supports this entire single anchor suspension bridge. This is at a home in the outer sunset. The suspect in that gray hoody started attacking a man in a garage. The victim fought back. They were struggling and eventually the the victim took the gun away from the suspect. The suspect ran away. Police there is a look at that man. Work resumes today on an oakland mural where an artist was shot and killed last week. Witnesses say the 27yearold artist Antonio Ramos got into an argument with a man who later pulled out a gun and shot and killed ramos. Police are still looking for his killer. The mural on the 580 overpass is meant to promote peace. The nonramos Oakland Police are investigating a car crash that really could have been tragic. Last night just before 9 00 an suv slammed into this house on market street. The suv ran into one house. It ended up in the living room. Fortunately no one was in the room at the time. No one was hurt. A neighbor says she didnt see the crash but she heard something bounce on her roof and ran outside. A piece of the debris flew over the the fence and struck my house. That is how i heard it. I thought it was an earthquake at first. And then i knew it was a car accident. I could look out the window and see the water coming up from where he hit the fire hydrant. Neighbors say this is at least the third time there has been a car crash at that particular corner. Happening today students autosome Vail High School students at Summerville High School are heading back to school. Many received a voice message on thursday of last week but say is they didnt know how serious the threat was. Nowhere did it mention students intended to shoot and kill other students and faculty. Several parents posted their concerns on social media. I got a text from my son who lives in washington asking me what is going on about this shooting not. What shooting from the School Superintendent says the voice message was left vague because the investigation was ongoing. Saying he didnt want to give away too many details. Heres the latest from oregon. Students and staff at Umpqua Community where nine people were kill. There would be any for meantime during sunday Church Services they have given me personal encouragement. Nobody is without pain today. And so we are here gathered in what we do in church but our heart is with everyone out there. Now the gunman in these shootings killed himself after a shootout with police. There are still conflicting reports if he targeted christians during that rampage. A lot of questions remain to be answered as the investigation continues. Here in the bay area a memorial and rally was held for victims of the Umpqua School shooting. People gathered yesterday in san mateo outside the Congregational Church to honor the nine People Killed in oregon. Bells rang for each victim and roses were placed in their honor. There is also hope that tragedy will if change gun control laws. Gun control supporters say federal loopholes must be closed even though its not certain if expanding background checks to include gun shows, web sales, and private buyers might have prevented the oregon gunman from buying a dozen weapons. The mother brutally killed back in july is planning a special celebration today. Today would have been Maddy Middletons ninth birthday. They have declared october 5th Maddy Middleton day. Her mother is hoping to make this an annual event to bring families together. Sex and scandal its partly to blame for the down fall of a well known retailer. Our pam cook is back in the studio with Details Behind the bankruptcy filing of American Apparel. The new ceo says she wants to take the company from quote chaotic to classic. Sex and scandal two of the big reasons American Apparel is faced with dropping sales and rising debt. For years the Clothing Company has been known for sexy and pornographic advertising but that changed with the changes until the top office. The founder and ceo was fired last year amid allegations of Sexual Harassment but he has filed 20 lawsuits against the company. American apparel like other retailers has been hurt by internet sales. More people even teenagers who are known for heading to the mall for their shopping are going online for the convenience and often the lower price. Now some stores have closed in the last year but the Company Plans to operate its remaining Retail Stores during the bankruptcy restructuring process which is about sixth months. They have closed stores, cut jobs. But during the Restructuring Plan the layoffs would take place at the Companys Head Office and online. Rather than the manufacturing.
