We heard about the signal light problem on vas co road. Vas co at camino diablo, those signals are not working properly. And this traffic is slower than normal. Ive heard from people who take vas co road on facebook and twitter. And lets say theyre not really fond of vas co road commuting. 580 westbound is slow. Altamont pass. Petaluma, stop and go traffic throughout most of that ride on highway 101. And as we drive down the penninsula it looks good getting into san jose. No problems on the bay shore freeway or highway 101. At 6 02, back to the desk. Still many Unanswered Questions surrounding a Deadly Police shooting in San Francisco. Officers say the suspect climbed on top of a freight elevator at a construction site next to the hospital at 4 15 yesterday afternoon. And fired at least one shot toward or near saint lukes. We obtained a new photo of the suspect. You can clearly see him dressed in white over alls. Investigators say he had two weapons, including a rifle that he had stolen from a big 5 Sporting Good store in san bruno. When San FranciscoPolice Arrived at saint lukes they heard several gunshots they carefully approached the gunman. They say he was aiming at the hospital but then pointed the weapon at them. Thats when the three officers shot and killed him. The craziest most bizarre experience ive ever seen in my entire life. Like ive heard of like gunshots in neighborhoods and stuff like gang shoots and stuff but never like a full on sniper inside of a building shooting at people. Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and whether the suspect had any ties to the hospital. They have not released his name but describe him as in his 20s. Police say thankfully no one else was hurt. Coming up at 6 30. Allie will have a live report from saint lukes. You can hear part of a police radiocall about the shooting. A man is in the hospital this morning after he drove away from police in the east bay and then crashed into nine other cars. This happened yesterday morning in richmond. Investigators say 28yearold Saul Espinosa sped away from a Police Traffic stop and crashed into a row of cars at 29th street and humphrey avenue. San pablo police say they tried to pull espinosa over for a simple traffic violation. But he took off. They say he was probably going 80 Miles Per Hour or more on 29th when he first hit a bmw. Now the driver of that car was not seriously hurt. Later police say espinosa smashed into eight more cars causing major damage to many of those cars. Rudy was nearby when the crash happened. He says he went over to the car and talked to the driver. I asked him, everythings going to be okay. The cops are coming. So as soon as i mentioned the cops he started just freaking out. You know. He was just like oh no the cops. And you know he tried to get out. But i kept telling him, i was like dont move. The rescue crews used the jaws of life to get espinosa out of the wreckage. A loaded gun and two ounces of meth were found in his car. They also say he was out on patrol for fleeing from police in 2012 in possession of a gun and drugs. Protesters expected to call for more Affordable Housing in a rally in san jose today. Many are concerned that new construction in Silicon Valley is for higher income tenants. They have signature bikes the employees ride around campus with. The city is looking to transform this area. Were talking about building 12 story buildings around the campus and thousands of new homes. Right now the area is business parks and fields. But the Mountain View city council decided to go ahead and study if its feasible to add up to 9100 Housing Units in the North Bay Shore area. That could bring in thousands of new residents. Google owns 55 of the land and told the city not all of it would be for tech workers. Some would be for Affordable Housing but Community Activists are concerned they say new workers and demand for housing are driving rent prices up. Theyre worried because people who make low wages or who are on a fixed income are barely scraping by. And a group of tenants will be holding a rally this morning in san jose outside a hearing held by the state Senate Committee of transportation and housing the main topic at the hearing is the housing crisis in california. Theyre going to be talking about high housing prices, rent, and how to encourage the construction of Affordable Housing. Thats all happening at 8 30 this morning in front of the county building. Tensions on the university of missouri campus, theyre still high this morning. Threats have been made against African American students and there are reports of racially motivated vandalism on the campus. In fact, last night a sign outside of the universitys black Culture Center was spray painted. There were several social media posts about this. You can see how the sign was painted over. The person who posted this video says she saw two men vandalizing that sign. All of this comes just days after the universitys president resigned because of large protests over alleged race discrimination. The universitys governing board held an emergency meeting last night. The meeting came just hours after Police Arrested a white man accused of posting online threats to shoot African American students and faculty at the school. 19yearold hunter park is due in court later today. Hell be facing charges of makes a terrorist threat. Security couldnt be Strong Enough right now. I think we can maybe even use a little more protection around security just at this point in time. Because the threats issued last night. Mean time students at other universities are also speaking out at Ithica College in upstate new york, almost a thousand of people protested there. Theyre calling for their president to resign over what they call a weak response to racist incidents on campus. A lesbian couple in utah will appeal a judges decision to take away their foster child. The couple has been taking care of a oneyearold girl for the past three months. A judge ordered the state to remove the child in a week. The couple is legally married and they have passed background checks and home inspections. They accuse the judge of imposing his own religious beliefs. He said through his research he had found out that kids in homosexual homes dont do as well as they do in heterosexual homes. And when they asked to show his research, he would not. The couple says they have the support of the childs biological mother. In fact, they were planning to adopt the baby and add her to their family, which includes two biological children. A california bartender is being hailed a hero this week after his quick thinking helped save the life of a customer in southern california. It happened during lunch last friday. Security video shows a customer eating a burger. He suddenly gets up from his bar stool and begins coughing and is unable to breathe. Starts motioning for help. The bartender jumps over the bar and begins performing the heimlich maneuver. He went to a construction site, terrorized workers, and fired off at least one gunshot. Allie rasmus is at the hospital now this morn with the latest on this pretty bizarre investigation. Allie . Reporter well, the big question for investigators is what was the motive for this mans actions. If they know that, they havent revealed that to us yet. We dont know if this man had any ties or connections to Saint Lukes Hospital or anyone inside. A man climbed up to the top of a freight elevator at the top of this construction site. This construction site is next to Saint Lukes Hospital. Police say the man then started firing a gun. They responded, ultimately by shooting and firing and killing him. On the sixth floor of the building. On the sixth floor of the building. Shots fired. Police radiorecordings revealed the chaotic scene. This is a picture of the man described as being in his late 20s wearing white cover alls. Once he got to the top of the elevator he fired one if not more shots towards the direction of Saint Lukes Hospital. The rifle was stolen in a robbery early in the day in san bruno. The latest shooting happened tuesday night on interstate 80 and panole. Someone pulled up next to a man and woman and opened fire. The man died. The woman survived. The first shooting happened eight days earlier on interstate 80 in san pablo. The victim in that incident was hit but survived. I drive 80 whenever i need to go somewhere. And to think that, whether im targeted or not, that somebody while driving would just come up on me and shoot me. So far the chp is not giving us any descriptions of either the get away cars or the suspects. Investigators believe this is gang related. The chp says theyll increase patrols along interstate 80. In the city of redding, someone stole all of one Shasta County sheriff deputys weapons. Someone broke into the deputys car monday night and Tuesday Morning the thief stole a 35 caliber semiautomatic handgun and a rifle specially made for law enforcement. The thief also took the deputies duty belt which includes handcuffs, pepper spray, a baton, and a hand held radio. Investigators are looking into whether the gear was properly stored and secured. A former inmate at the Santa Clara County jail is showing us injuries he claims he suffered as the hands of correctional deputies. 50yearold Reuben Garcia is now suing the county. In his complaint he says two deputies severely beat him last july. Garcia says he suffered permanent nerve damage to the right side of his face. He was being held for a misdemeanor drug offense and he complained about having to wait hours to be processed. Garcia says it was the death of fellow inmate Michael Tyree in august that convinced him to come forward. I could hear the blows. I could hear michael screaming please, stop hurting me. Please, stop it. Please, stop hurting me. , please. He waited to file the lawsuit because he feared retaliation. Three deputies are facing murder charges for the death of tyree the guards arent the same ones garcia says beat him. The man accused of killing a Popular Ice Cream vendor is expected to be charged today. Jovan lopez was arrested tuesday and is being held at santa rita jail. He shot and killed a 45year old on october 3rd in a neighborhood in east oakland. So far, theres no word on a possible motive. Time is now 6 38, the faa is saying three different jets reported being hit by laser beams last night near dallas. A Southwest Airlines flight and a Virgin America flight coming from austin into dallas reported the incident. The pilot of a business jet getting ready to land at that same airport made a similar report. No one was hurt. But laser beams, as you know, can make it hard for pilots to see. The faa sent officers to see if they could find anybody in that area where those laser beams were coming from. But so far, they were not successful. Mean time, paulo alto Congress Woman anna is pushing for changes because of noise complaints focused on sfo. A recent change in the flight paths used by jets increased the noise levels in neighborhoods as far away as santa cruz. The program called next gen is designed to standardize the arrival and departure routes of planes. The Congress Woman has written two bills that would require the faa and the epa to look at the noise levels when they make changes. This next gen program has not only created problems in our region, but in other states and other regions in the country. So were not the only ones. The Congress Woman says the faa heard the complaints. Shes been told the faa is working on a plan to deal with the problem. But the faa cant say when that plan will be made public. In an effort to level the Playing Field between Taxi Companies and ride sharing companies, san jose is now considering easing tough regulations for taxis. It all follows a twoday strike by cab drivers this week. Theyre upset that the city eliminated a fingerprinting requirement for uber and lyft drivers. The mercury news says the city council will consider ideas on how to de regulate taxis next week. They include issuing temporary permits for drivers while they go through a background check. Then it crashed into the upper deck of the fishermans restaurant on pier 57 and hit a table, barely missing people. Employees say the wheel itself was not damaged but it was inspected. Seattle police, theyre searching for the owner of that drone. An unusual aircraft that could help simulate missions to mars is being tested near san diego. The air bus mission two glider could sore 90,000 feet above the earth. Itll be the first time humans have been that high without an engine controlling the flight. A tow plane takes the glider up. Once its released it comes back to earth on its own. It has to be as strong as any aircraft that goes that high. Police in south San Francisco are looking for more suspects in a stabbing that led to the arrest of three boys. Now, the mercury news reports two teenagers and a twelve yearold were arrested last friday. Police tell the paper that a 14 yearold boy was confronted by a group who yelled gang related terms and stabbed him in the back. The victim is expected to survive. Time now, 6 55, a nurse was arrested after police say he tried to break into his neighbors homes in san jose while dressed in full military gear. Police say 36yearold Shannon Nathan wong climbed on to the roof of his townhouse complex yesterday on bautista place. He had an Assault Rifle and was knocking on several neighbors windows demanding to be let inside. 911 was called. Police say when they arrived, wong pointed the rifle at them.
