For the third time in less than a week there is a new person in charge. Mayor libby schaaf replaced police chief, sean whent, with ben fairow. He has been abruptly replaced by assistant chief paul figueroa. The mayor said she received information that caused her to lose confidence in figueroa fairow. She said state privacy laws prohibit her from elaborating. As mayor i need to have absolute confidence that the leader of this department can be 100 effective. At leading cultural change based on the current allegations that we take extremely seriously. Mayor schaaf blames a rapid vetting process for not checking fairow background more thoroughly. Several Council Members called the recent shakeups in the Police Department regrettable. They called them a clear sign of failed leadership within city government. In the meantime, the new chief said he is looking forward to making positive change in the Department Acting chief, paul figueroa, rose through the ranks and police cadet back in 1991. The oakland woman charged with stabbing a 12yearold boy inside a bank will be back in court iyona hammond is scheduled to enter a plea to one count of attempted murder. Prosecutors say she walked into the bank and almost immediately stabbed the board who was in the lobby waiting for his grandmother. Witnesses say the attack was unprovoked. This will be another hard day for the san jose Police Department. They are planning for the memorial for motorcycle officer, Michael Katherman, who died in a crash in the line of duty on tuesday. Officer katherman died in a collision with a minivan tuesday afternoon. Janine de la vega is at Police Headquarters right now where emotions are high. Reporter they sure are. This memorial, people have left flowers and candles. This is in front of the Police Department. This officers loss is having a deep impact. We know that sometime today there will be a profession process and of officers who will escort the body of Michael Katherman from the Coroners Office to the funeral home. The motorcycle officer was 34 years old. He leaves behind a wife and two sons. He is described by friends as a loving and generous man who was devoted to his family. Katherman grew up in san jose and graduated from valley christian high school. The school is encouraging people to donate to a gofundme page set up to help his wife and their children. Kathermans death has prompted many from the community to leave cards and offer condolences to the Police Department. I think it shows the kids how much the officers are appreciated and supported and what they actually do for this community. And what they do give up. Reporter fellow officers say katherman loved his job, patrolling on his motorcycle and was someone they could count on. He volunteered his time with a Chaplaincy Program in the keith kelly club. This is an organization that helps officers and their families in times of need. Those same people will help kathermans family who is in morning. The department is in the process of making plans for a memorial ceremony. We have not heard what day that will occur. The family and friends of a teenage girl shot and killed in downtown oakland on tuesday held a memorial last night. The gathered at carter park and released balloons and honor of reggina jefferies. They also hold a vigil where she was shot and killed at 13th and franklin street. Miss jeffries and other teenagers had come from a memorial when there was gunfire. Her mother talked about how quickly the familys life was turned upside down. I called my daughter. Was he okay . I got a phone call that my daughter had been shot at 5 36. This is ms. Jeffries performing at a praise and worship dance at the funeral for two oakland teenage boys who drowned over memorial day weekend. The video was taken a couple of hours before she was killed. The girl who held onto ms. Jeffries tried to stop her bleeding but the teenager later died at the hospital. Police at san jose state are looking for a potential witness to a Sexual Assault. He killed 12 people and raped 45 this started in the late 1970s. Attacks began in the eastern part of Sacramento County and continued down to orange county. The suspect is linked to 12 rapes in the bay area in 1979. There is no reason to believe he is not a life. Based upon age ranges back in those times, we estimate him to be anywhere from 60 through 75 years old. 16 years ago, investigators used dna to link the crimes that happened between 1976 and 1986 to this one person. There is a report that a federal judge allowed one of his attorneys to withdraw from the case. But denied a similar request from his two other lawyers. It gets better as you reach livermore. It is very crowded as you drive through the area. Looking at the south bay commute we have been looking at the crash on southbound 85 Comment Party may, we will go to 85 southbound at saratoga. They are clearing an injury accident near saratoga avenue. Southbound is to lay. Northbound is not. Lets move to live pictures. The 880 commute is not bad. Traffic is moving along nicely in both directions. At the toll plaza we have a delay, about 10 minutes getting onto the bridge and heading into the city. A few reports of some light rain, especially in the north bay. A drizzle from sausalito. Sunrise over the big city with increasing clouds on the way. This system will swing through. Most of this is taking aim at the north bay but we may have some rain in the south. The north bay looks to be the main focus. Some areas have not had any and others have had a little. Santa rosa and west petaluma have had a little bit. Mendocino had a good downpour around 2 30 am. Mendocino county, lake county and much of the north bay this is one of these hit or miss that there is a lot offshore. Maybe a 10th of an inch or a quarter of an inch. This does not look like it will take any further south. This is the line moving through that will give us drizzle and light rain. To the north, there is the possibility of thundershowers.
