The San Jose Police are grieving the loss of 34yearold motorcycle officer Michael Katherman this morning. Officer cather men was riding his motorcycle yesterday afternoon and was hit and killed, and we explain how the crash happened and we have the reaction from the department. The department is in mourning this morning, 34year old Michael Katherman was riding on duty yesterday afternoon near north 10th street and he was hit by a minivan. We show you the new video they just came into the newsroom of the procession of the San Jose Police officers leaving the San Jose Regional Medical Center where officer Michael Katherman was taken for treatment and later died. You can see the line of officers and First Responders honoring the 11 year veteran of the force, and officer Michael Katherman collided with a minivan that was turning left going in the opposite direction. The officer was thrown from his motorcycle into the path of the minivan and was crushed. A Good Samaritan used the police radio to call for help yesterday and gave the officer first aid. Officers and paramedics weekly quickly arrived on scene to continue the lifesaving effort, but officer Michael Katherman was transported to the Regional Medical center and was pronounced deceased. Officer Michael Katherman was married with two sons, and his officers say that he loved his job and he loved his family. Putting out a statement, heroes lift is all for their sacrifice, compelling us to be our best through their example. Michael katherman was that hero performing his noble duty to serve and protect until his last moments. I asked our residents to join in sending out our prayers and thoughts to mikes wife, his sons, his family and friends, and this in their time of grief. The driver of the minivan is cooperating with the police, and has not been arrested, alcohol and drugs have been ruled out. The time is 5 08 am. This morning we learned that the wife of the gunman in the terror attack at the gay nightclub may be facing charges, looking at what that young mans life wife may have known before the shooting at the pulse nightclub. The fbi is reportedly investigating whether the gunman may have had a secret gay life. Our reporter has the latest from orlando. Reporter good morning. Fbi sources tell fox news that investigators have ceased two of the phones from omar mateen and they have access them. It appears it was a case of self radicalization, not a terror directed attack, morro bay terror inspired attack. He does not appear to have been part of a group or cell. Reporter the fbi is looking as to whether he reached out today men and he may have been a regular at the gay club that he attacked. I am laying down and thinking that i next, i am dead. I dont know how, but by the grace of god he shoots toward my head, but it hit my hand. He shoots me again and it hit the side of my hip. The 44 shooting victims taken to the orlando Regional Medical center, 27 still in the hospital, six in critical condition. A new call for an independent commission to hold Police Accountable for misconduct. Oakland City Council Members and Community Groups gathered on the steps of city hall saying that the need for the commission is long overdue. The independent Citizen Review Commission will be able to hire or fire the police chief, and could take disciplinary action against officers for wrongdoing. The latest proposal comes as the city list is charging several Police Officers had Sexual Misconduct with a teenager. The commission will have Real Authority and responsibility. A lot of times and we have the sessions about crime in oakland, we dont back to the Police Officers into the equation, and what is happening is criminal and they need to be prosecuted like criminals. The Orange County sheriff said that the little boy was with his family at the disney grand floridian resort late last night, and the child, his parents and two other children were at the seven seasons lagoon and the alligator grabbed the little boy. The child was playing in the water, just about a foot into the water. The alligator came up and attacked. The share said that the father tried to grab the boy but could not, and he says that there are signs in the area telling people not to swim in the lagoon. The spokeswoman says that the family is from nebraska, and that the resort is doing their best to help the family to cope. In south san jose, a does is a dozen business up in flames at a strip mall and we are there right now. Is the fire still burning . Reporter there are still hot spots, and the firefighters are still here. They were just spraying water on it from the latter that you can see right here. They do this ever so often because we still see smoke rising. There are about 20 businesses in this strip mall. As you can see from the video, nearly all destroyed. Going to the video for murder, take a look at these claims. This started just before midnight, and witnesses say it appears to have started outside of the Mexican Restaurant in the far left corner. This was just before midnight, firefighters started attacking it, but it quickly spread to the attic area, and was contained after 2 1 2 hours. The fired left the majority of the businesses gutted. We do not know what caused the fire, and the Business Owners would like to know. We hear from witnesses that tell us that it looked like a bunch of cardboard boxes or the dumpster on fire behind the building. Most of the businesses were closed at the time, and investigators will do interviews to try to piece together what happened. Oakland police trying to piece together what led to the deadly shooting in downtown oakland, a 16yearold girl died and three others injured at 5 30 pm near the tribune building. A vigil for the two teenage boys that drowned in a reservoir during the memorial day weekend. People were beginning to leave the vigil when someone started shooting near 14th and franklin. One half of the city was running down here, and people that were out just started running. You can hear the gunshots. It is not clear where other the victims were attending the vigil are caught in the crossfire, or if they were actually targeted. The open police do not have a description of the suspect or motive in the shooting. A 20yearold pittsburgh man arrested for killing his 17 yearold girlfriend, gary and brown shot and killed alexis are being behind the Rainbow Recreation Center and east oakland. They say that brown went to a gas station after the shooting and was acting erratically. I added customer coming back to pay and this guy was following her and annoying her. I asked her if she was feeling threatened, and she said she was so we call the police. He told me to touch the bag, and i told him he had to go, and there was a gun in the bag. Brown is being held without bail, and his mother said that he is mentally ill. The victim had just finished her junior year in high school. This is the best thing that everyone can do, to get together. These dogs are from chicago, we are from chicago. Back we are getting love from everywhere. The comforter team is made up of 19 people, 12 dog. Not only do they offer comfort to those physically hurt, they give solace to the First Responders that were emotionally hurt by the shooting.
