President obama trying to reassure the nation he has a plan to defeat isis overseas and keep americans safe. The president made his case last night during a Rare Oval Office address from the white house. Doug luzader is there live this morning. Doug, you have the latest . Reporter good morning. The thinking from the white house is that the public is certainly concerned in the wake of these terrorist incidents in paris and of course in california. But this is largely a stay the course message from the president. This was an act of terrorism. Designed to kill innocent people. Reporter president obama has used the Oval Office Just three times in the course of his presidency to address the nation. From there he acknowledged what the fbi and others have been saying for days now. Last week attack in San Bernardino, california carried out by husband and wife team was an act of terrorism. As the internet he races the distance between countries, we see growing efforts by terrorists to poison the minds of people like the Boston Marathon bombers and the San Bernardino killers. Reporter the president also laid out a fourpart plan to take on isis in iraq and syria but it is largely an amplification of what we already doing. As investigators have uncovered, the massive arsenal of weapons accumulated by syed farook and tashfeen malik, there are troubling questions about malik in particular and the west fiancee visa program that allowed her to enter the country in july of last year. Something the president said should change. What we can do and must do is make it harder for them to kill. Reporter this address seemed to be a clear response to those who have accused the president of inaction in the wake of the California California attack and the paris assault last month. One of his loudest critics, florida senator marco rubio, who said the president lacks a strategy. Very disappointed tonight. I think not only did the president not make things better, i fear he may have made things worse in the minds of many americans. The crew beamed its lights and tracked the drone back to a home in martinez. A young man flying it is an International Student from china attending college and his host family said he meant no harm. With the helicopter going over 100 miles an hour, the 2. 5 pound drone could have gone through the windshield or into the road is bringing down. If it didnt have lights, we would not have seen it at all traveling at those speeds. Reporter what the operator was doing wrong was flying too high. They are supposed to stay a few hundred feet off the ground out of airspace and he let the drone get too far away and out of his sight.
