Two deaths now reported from the butte fire southeast of sacramento. That fire started more than a week ago. Almost 72,000 acres burned much the bodies of two fire victims found yesterday by search dogs. One was 65yearold mark mcleod. Neighbors say he died in his home after refusing to leave. Body of second unidentified victim found a couple miles away. The butte fire destroyed 230 homes, 47 contained. Victims of a kidnapping that was called a hoax by Vallejo Police will file a legal claim today against the city of vallejo. Aaron quinn told police on march 23rd a masked man broke into the home he shared with girlfriend, denise. He said the man tied them up, drugged them and drove off with denise. Police called it a hoax after she turned up two days later unharmed in huntington beach. But in july, Matthew Muller was identified as the suspect after he was arrested for hole invasion in dublin and evidence was found tying him to the kidnapping. Reporter just yesterday the lake county Sheriffs Office confirm a second person was killed in the fires that swept through middletown and the surrounding communities. This morning the is search goes on for other people who remain missing and obviously loved ones have a quite a bit of concern. The second body discovered yesterday along ford road near the community of Anderson Springs. Authorities have not identified that body, but it was found near the home of 69yearold leonard neft, retired newspaper reporter last heard from on saturday. His family was quite worried about his well being because this fastmoving fire was racing toward his home and they do not believe he made it out. Last night we also talked with another man in this area who believes his brother may have died in any fire. Mark burns told us last night he got a call from the Sheriffs Office last night and told there was a body found at the recycling center that he owns here in middletown. Burns told us his brother bruce lived in a trailer on that property and may not have made it out. He didnt have to die, i dont think. If id have grazed the property off, the fire probably wouldnt have burned through there. Reporter other real big concern for the thousands of evacuees is the threat of looting, very real threat. This morning were seeing a lot of Law Enforcement officers patrolling the streets in middletown. Yesterday they arrested this man, trying to break in empty homes in the Cobb Mountain area. Authorities even say that he was wearing a baseball cap that said chp on it, clearly trying to blend in as Law Enforcement had. Authorities have made at least three arrests for looting.
