The Water District says theres a plan to create a second release valve closer to the spillway and that would allow managers to drain about a third of the water in 35 days. A very emotional story. Thats actually down from 300 the night before. California senator Pamela Harris will visit the Lake Oroville dam today as crews continue to try to repair the spillways. Harris will survey the damage and repair work by air today. She will also get a briefing from local officials in the national guard. This comes the day after Governor Brown made a surprise visit to the dam. The emergency spillway eroded when the lake overflowed, forcing the evacuation of 180,000 people nearly two weeks ago. The dams main spillway is also damaged and could cost as much as 200 million to repair. Today at noon there will be a memorial bell ripping at the chp academy. It will be for a motorcycle officer killed in a crash last night while chasing a suspect. 31yearold officer lucas shal eu was chasing a suspect also on a motorcycle in sacramento. The officer was thrown off of his bike after losing control and slamming into a pole. He was rushed to a hospital and thats where he died. Fellow officers say he was well loved. He was a family man and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. When Something Like this does happen it effects not just the chp but also the folks that we serve and protect. So again, we lost one of our heros. That suspect got away. Officer was married, had two children. He came from Law Enforcement family. His father is a retired chp captain. His sister is a chp officer. An Alameda County sheriffs deputy is in Critical Condition this morning after being hit by a bus in the parking lot of the jail. It happened yesterday morning. Deputy mike foley was just about to start his shift when a bus driven by another deputy hit him. Were told condensation on the window could have obscured the drivers reu and that foley was wearing dock clothing. He is one of our oldest employees in the transportation unit, yet the hardest worker. He sets the examples for our younger deputies to follow. The sheriff says deputy foley spent 30 years as an officer before joining the department. The chp has been called in as an outside agency to investigate this crash but this is really just a terrible accident. A man is in jail this morning charged with the death after Community Activist who spent his life rescuing young people from street violence. 48yearold land rinne kelly died last week after reportedly being injured after a fight. Police arrested 49yearold Kevin Jackson of vallejo, booked him on murder charges. Landrin kelly started a foundation mentoring young people. He was a star Football Player at delasalle. He was killed just two days before he was to leave to play college football. Police in berkeley say a female staff member who was stabbed at a school on tuesday is now out of the hospital. Now this happened at the via center, a special Education School at berkeley. 20yearold angel juarez was arrested. Hes a student at the school. Reportedly hes diagnosis the with autism. Hes been booked on the charge of attempted murder and due in court this morning. President trumps new immigration directives were a topic of discussion at a Community Forum in San Fransisco last night. It included danny glover, attorneys and an immigration judge. Guidance memos issued this week from the department of Homeland Security called for more border agents, more detentions of people in the country illegally. The head of the National Association of Immigration Judges says the immigration courts are already struggling to keep up with a huge backlog of cases. The immigration courts for many many years, for decades, has not had sufficient funding to be able to hear every case with the amount of attention it deserves in a timely fashion. Judge dana lee mark says currently there are about 300 Immigration Judges in courts across the country dealing with more than 500,000 pending cases. We have another state of emergency close to home. Theres a case pending in the Supreme Court in which we have to decide whether or not to continue to issue guidance to the court. Its not its dictated by that. The case before the Supreme Court involves a virginia teenager by logically a girl who identified as a boy. Last april a federal Appeals Court ruled in the teens favor, based on the obama administrations guideline. President trump is scheduled to meet tomorrow with Ohio Governor john kasich but we dont know who asked for the meeting. During the president ial campaign governor kasich was a critic of trump. Kasich said when he voted for president he wrote in the name of senator john mccain. Now a spokesperson for governor kasich said it was trump who asked for the meeting. So far more than 150,000 has been raised and the Auto Dealers Association made the biggest donation and California Water service 10,000 and 49ers 20,000.
