yesterday morning in a strain became stuck in a landslide near solano. almost the exact same location where there was another landslide on tuesday that also trapped a train. some of the passengers took photos and video of the trees, the mud and the brush pushing up against the train cars. if you would have opened the doors would have came in on you. it was very impressive. now the crews are closely examining that area to figure out if more landslides are possible. well they'll look for things like whether the vegetation is clearly moving. whether there are visual disruptions in the soil surface. yesterday afternoon, union pacific, which owns those train tracks and the surrounding area , remove trees and dirt from the hillside trying to prevent any more landslides. since the new year, geologists have reported more than 600 landslides statewide as the ground becomes more saturated, the risk becomes greater. ktvu brooks jarocz examine the information about the areas most at risk. with the kind of rainfall that we've had . it's just exactly what you'd expect can be dangerous, oftentimes unpredictable landslides moving into homes across roadways or falling into the ocean. at this point, we're in reaction, murder, santa cruz county geologists and engineers are busy assessing damage, looking for new hazards and evaluating homes to see if they're safe. we're kind of right now, at the threshold where we starting to say not just little blowouts and small land sites, but we're starting to see if some of the larger land sites trip to move. and that's when it gets really scary out there, california's geological survey found since december, 30th there have been 600 reported landslides statewide, shallow ones can occur with a few inches of rain. but as the ground saturates deeper and deeper, large pieces of land can be on the move. the steeper the grade. the bigger the chance you're dealing with gravity that's trying to pull down that side of the mountain problematic for public transportation systems, especially barriers like mouse. mountains and rivers in alameda county trains were stopped near niles canyon twice for landslides this week. while engineers anticipate trouble spots and may use tools and techniques to prevent slides. no plan is perfect natural risks remain. it's just something that has to be factored in, and it's a risk management issue. the usgs has a map pinpointing hot spots in the level of risk statewide, much like an earthquake. a landslide can happen without warning, just like in the berkeley hills, where a handful of homes were just red tagged, they're pretty much at mother nature's mercy at that point, your houses where it is and the earth is what it is. geologists say it's important to know where the runoff from your property is going and try to control it. if you're on a hillside and hear creaking or cracking, trees falling or roaring sounds, check it out immediately or consider leaving right away despite studies, terrain maps and other monitoring, there can be hidden factors that could end in a sliding situation. brooks jarocz ktvu fox two news. alright brooks. thank you. time for 17. tuesday that also trapped a train passed. injures took photos and video of all the trees, the mud and the brush pushing up against the train cars. if you would have opened the doors that would have came in on you was it was very impressive. crews are out there closely examining that area to figure out if more landslides are possible. well they'll look for things like whether the vegetation is clearly moving. whether there are visual disruptions in the soil surface. yesterday afternoon. union pacific, which owns the tracks, and the surrounding area, removed trees and dirt from the hillside trying to prevent more landslides. since the new year. geologists have reported more than 600 landslide statewide as the ground becomes saturated, the risk becomes greater. ktvu brooks jarocz examined the information about the areas most at risk. with the kind of rainfall that we've had. it's just exactly what you'd expect can be dangerous, oftentimes unpredictable landslides moving into homes across roadways or falling into the ocean. at this point, we're in reaction, murder, santa cruz county geologists and engineers are busy assessing damage, looking for new hazards and evaluating homes to see if they're safe. we're kind of right now, at the threshold where we starting to see not just a little blow out. that's an and small land sites, but we're starting to see if some of the larger land sites trip to move. and that's when it gets really scary out there, california's geological survey found since december, 30th there have been 600 reported landslides statewide, shallow ones can occur with a few inches of rain. but as the ground saturates deeper and deeper, large pieces of land can be on the move. the steeper the grade . the bigger the chance you're dealing with gravity that's trying to pull down that side of the mountain problematic for public transportation systems, especially barriers like mouse. mountains and rivers in alameda county trains were stopped near niles canyon twice for landslides this week. while engineers anticipate trouble spots and may use tools and techniques to prevent slides. no plan is perfect natural risks remain. it's just something that has to be factored in, and it's a risk management issue. the usgs has a map pinpointing hot spots in the level of risk statewide, much like an earthquake. a landslide can happen without warning, just like in the berkeley hills, where a handful of homes were just red tagged, they're pretty much at mother nature's mercy at that point, your houses where it is and earth is what it is. geologists say it's important to know where the runoff from your property is going and try to control it. if you're on a hillside and hear creaking or cracking, trees falling or roaring sounds, check it out immediately or consider leaving right away. despite studies, terrain, maps and other monitoring, there can be hidden factors that could end in a sliding situation. brooks jarocz ktvu fox two news, they're more cost cutting. thank you for joining us here on morning sun to pam cooked. good morning. i'm dave clark. thursday morning. january 19th was just outside. it's cold . outside this morning. roberta's here to tell us about a forecast and the fact that she just pushed the rain out of our area got some mighty big hips. yeah, a but my human weather station did you see any clouds out there? not see clouds. i did see a sliver of the moon that was spectacular. well, that's really great because we had a very fast moving cold from blasted the area in the overnight hours. some impressive totals there anywhere from a smattering of 4 1/100 of an inch of rain in san jose. to a healthy over 3/10 of an inch of rain and fremont. look at these numbers. not bad at all, for this measly little system that is now going to provide a lot of colder air mass. so that's our storm tracker, our doppler radar and no green on the screenings. it is dry. next system should arrive january 29th, which is 10 days from now, so we will keep you posted. that's what our long range computer models are leaning towards. things can change between now and then. but one thing is certain. it is cold as they was alluding to 39 now and wanted creek 34 in santa rosa. so you know it's freezing somewhere around windsor or sebastopol, 42 now and hayward and across the bay of redwood city, 44 in san jose, going up 2 53 pretty seasonal temperature spend 50 to 55 to talk more about king tides that's coming up, but first things first. it's sending on over to south castaneda. where you going right now, sal, where's the busy? well you know, i just mistakenly texted steve, tell him to toss to me talking about 5 80. he's asleep. i'm sure. then that meant the text you westbound 5 80 hop yard. there's a crash blocking all lanes. now steve paulson's awake knows about this westbound 5 88 hop yard road. this crash is blocking several lanes. it looks like they're making some progress. just listening to radio traffic. however what you need to know is there's already a mile and a half back up pretty soon. this is going to be backed up into livermore. get on the road early or get on the freeway after the dublin interchange if you can get on the freeway easily by avoiding that interchange, 5 80 loss, decent to castro valley just getting on the freeway, you know right there, for example, that could make a big difference for you instead of having to deal with all that traffic coming up in a few minutes, we'll take a look at all the rest of the commute. but now let's get back to the headlines. thank you. what happening today? president biden will be in northern california. he'll be touring the storm. image in santa cruz county ktvu alley, rasmus is near moffett field. that is where air force one and the president will be landing later today. good morning, allie. good morning, davy. according to the president's itinerary. he's scheduled to land at moffett field just after noon our time today, the president's already declared a state of emergency for the county of santa cruz and many other counties in california because of all the storms and the relentless rain we've had over the past three weeks, and the hope is that that emergency declaration will free up federal aid and more resources. so you some of the video we have of some of that storm damage. three weeks of relentless rain caused flooding and storm damage, including the destruction of the peering capitola and flooded neighborhoods in watson ville president biden, california senator alex padilla and governor gavin newsom are scheduled to visit those communities today. at three o'clock this afternoon. the president will speak and answer questions at a news conference in the community of seacliff residents, business owners and local leaders say they are encouraged by this presidential visit. there's been a lot of tears. there's been a lot of anger and we've moved into that stage of hope, and i think that this is really a kickoff period toward the rebuild to have the president come here, commit those resources and commit there to be with us for the long term. this is video of moffett field yesterday where you see three marine helicopters already in place, ready to take the president and the senator and our governor and two other local leaders to the areas that were damaged by the storm to give him an aerial view. when the president declares a state of emergency in the region, it allows fema and the department of homeland security to coordinate relief efforts, and it also makes federal and state funds more easily accessible to individuals and business owners so that they can rebuild. but again this presidential visit happening today in santa clara county, the president's scheduled to arrive here at moffett field just afternoon today, and then he'll be going on to tour some of the damage in santa cruz county. live in mountain view. ali rasmus ktvu, fox two news. all right. thank you. ali this work with it. chp. is there now, one of the things that i know noticed is that they do have a lot of resources on the scene. it could affect you eastbound as you're driving out to pleasant, but most of the direction the commute direction is obviously westbound. just got word of a new crash just a few moments ago, westbound 24 at alcohol, lonnie's road, and that's on the way to the call to cut
