Moments ago, sheriffs deputies in Santa Clara County confirmed that a woman missing on Mount Hamilton has been found alive. The husband of cristina pocket said she vanished while they were walking at about 7 30 last night. But he wasnt able to call for help until about 2 30 this morning. Uponnably because of bad possibly because of bad Cell Phone Service. Our ktvus janine de la vega is on the scene and shes near the location where the woman is set to be brought down the mountain. Well have a live report from her in the next hour. All right. 7 04. A dog named champ, well, he really lived up to his name after helping to rescue a family in hayward when their garage caught fire. This happened about 3 00 at a home on sparrow road. A man and his two sons were in the house when the fire started. They got out safely, thanks to their dog, champ, who barked until the family woke up. That fire was also frightening for neighbors. I thought it was my house. When i run to the yard, i saw smoke coming out. The fire truck working on it. That fire was contained just to that garage and no one was hurt. The Oakland City Council has awarded the citys garbage and recycling contract to a local company. Ktvus katie you utehs live in oakland to explain the new deal and how this will affect rates. Katie . The logos may sooning changing. Waste management has held the contract with oakland for more than 100 years. Last my the city council last night, the city Council Voted on a new carrier. Regardless, the rates will go up. There was gonna be some sticker shock no matter what we did. Reporter people in oakland pay 30 a month. California Waste Solutions placed a bid of nearly 37 which was 2 cheaper per household compared from waste management. The increase in rates will go to pay for the creation of new garbage trucks that run on natural gas that is collected from methane from landfills. That goes towards oaklands campaign of zero beast. Zero waste. Back to you. The search continues for whoever held a 17yearold boy in san jose at gunpoint in his home. Jonathan wong said he was taking a nap yesterday when he heard glass breaking. He said the next thing he knew, a masked man wearing sunglasses and a cap tied him up and he stole a safe with jewelry and passports inside. He broke in, ordered me to the ground. Wong said he only saw one robber but video from surveillance camera showed one other suspect. Police have not released the video to the public. The wrong family thinks the wong family thinks the robbers chose their house at random. A woman posted a surveillance camera of a burglar. It shows him knocking at the door. When no one answers, he does try to kick the door down. The video does not show him entering the home. There he goes. The door doesnt open. He may have gotten in through some other door. The robbery happened on monday. Stockton police asking anyone who recognizes that man to give them a call. Happening today suspended state senator leland yee is due back in court. Hes due to enter a plea to a new racketeering charge. Last week an expanded indictment was filed against him and dozens of others. It alleges he took bribes. One of the other defendants is raymond shrimp boy chow. Now, chow and five others were in hurt yesterday and pled not guilty to the new charges. The indictment alleges that chow solicited bribes for senator yee and laundered money. Chows lawyer said his client has gone straight after spending time in prison also for racketeering. He understands when hes arrested when he was arrested, he had 400 to 700 to his name. He lived with his girlfriend. He truly took a vow, you know, in essence of poverty and served the community. T. s driverless trains that will take riders between the Oakland Airport and the coliseum station. B. A. R. T. Is running all four. The trains should take 14 minutes to make the entire trip. It takes 20 minutes with the current system. The trains are expected to be in service by the thanksgiving weekend. There is a new app helping drivers in San Francisco fight unfair parking tickets. Drivers will pay 25 of the cost of the ticket if the app can get the ticket dismissed. But if the app does not win, drivers dont have to pay a thing. Its a service being used by many drivers in San Francisco who say they regularly deal with broken parking meters and also confusing rules about street cleaning. Its unclear this morning whether this was the victims home but we understand just from preliminary reports that this person was shot roughly after 6 00 this morning. And the san jose Police Department has become the bay areas First Law Enforcement Agency to get a drone. This morning, ktvu news did confirm that the department got the up manned aircraft back in january using 7,000 in federal grant money. The drone does look very similar to the one on your screen. The guidelines for its use have still not been developed. But the san jose Police Department says it plans to use that drone with the bomb squad to help assess some threats. It can also be used by other Bay Area Police agencies for that same purpose. A shortage of officers could force the san jose Police Department to eliminate the motorcycle traffic unit. The san jose Police Department tells ktvu 11 motorcycle officers may be redeployed to patrol car units. Police are reportedly considering the change because there arent enough officers to respond to emergency calls. The san jose Police Department has struggleled to retain officers since the passage of measure b which cut pension benefits. A San FranciscoPolice Officer recovering after his patrol car was hit by another car at a crime scene. Police say the officer was at portola drive and santa paula avenue around 8 15 last night. Thats where they say a 20year old man was found. He had been shot. He is expected to survive and police are still searching for the shooter. Police say the crash happened when the Police Officers were managing that crime scene. That officer was taken to that to the hospital for examination. A brave 9yearold girl still struggling to recover. Ten weeks after she was hit by a stray bullet in oakland. Lets see if we can do you are doing the alphabet. Thats jackie funes undergoing speech therapy. Doctors say shes paralyzed from the neck down but shes slowly regaining some movement and some sensation in her left arm. Today is an important day for an historic oyster farm fighting to stay in business. The drakes bay company will close down the Retail Operations today while a legal battle goes on. The oyster farm was originally sent to close down completely today arthe interior department afternoon the interior department failed to renew the lease so the area can be returned to wilderness. The National Park service will allow drakes to continue harvesting for at least another month while a federal judge considers an injunction filed by restaurants that depend on the oysters. Drakes bay provides more than a third of all of the oysters in the state. Meantime, a San Francisco golf course that had been september to close down today set to close down today will be open for at least one more month after a lease extension from the city. The glean eagles golf course has been fighting with San Franciscos recreation and Parks Department over terms of a new lease. The owner says he wants the same deal as the citys five other golf courses with the city paying for labor, services and water. The city of San Francisco may soon have a new measure to save water during the record breaking drought. Todays examiner reports scott wiener wants to measure water in the same way you measure electricity use. His proposal would mandate the installation of individual water meters in San Francisco housing units. Right now, theres no way for a tenant to know how much water they are using because they are connected to water meters shared by everyone in their building. And a new Community Pool is opening in st. Helena. The drought detailed the original plan to fill the 4. 6 million pool on the campus of st. Helena high school. So herald smith and Son Contractors stepped in. They ran a pipe from a well on their property into the pool filling it with water. After the water is treated, the pool will be opened to the students and the community. 7 43. Police in napa say a particular crime is on the rise. Thieves are targeting cars but not to steal the car. Reporter well, people say they are really frustrated this is happening in their neighborhood. Police say its been going on for the past week, where folks will come outside of walmart, go to start their car and it wont start because someone has drained the gas. This area is one of the known areas to be targeted. Police say the thieves have been targeting people throughout the downtown area. Officers say that they are drilling or punching holes in victims gas tanks and the suspect or suspects are trying to drain the gas out of the car, causing significant damage, rutting in expensive repairs. Police say keeping close tabs on your vehicle at all times is a good idea. Most of my cars are locked up at night and in a secured area. So for most people, yeah, people your cars closed, yes. Keep them in the garage, if you can. Reporter firefighters have been responding to many of these calls because of the large amount of gas that leaks onto the roadway creating a hazard. Officers believe the thieves are using tools such as a hand drill or screwdriver. Suvs and pickup trucks are primarily being targeted perhaps because of their raised height. The thieves are striking during the day and the night in busy parking lots as well as quiet neighborhood streets. We did speak to one officer who says that Surveillance Video may be key here. Police tell ktvu that a driver who was charged in a deadly pedestrian crash earlier this year is legally blind. 56yearold robert gillcet is accused of hitting and killing 98yearold joe loft in april. Loft was in a crosswalk when he was hit. Police tell us gillcrest is visually impaired. He was driving on a license that had been suspended 14 years ago. Investigators say he also may have been eating as he was driving because they found a bowl of macaroni inside of his car. Gillcrest is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license. A man accused of stealing a truck and leading police on a wild chase through San Francisco is behind bars. Officers say the surveillance images show the path of destruction created by the suspect while he was on the run yesterday. Hes accused of taking a truck from a construction site, then driving it against traffic on a oneway street. At least half a dozen cars were damaged before officers stopped him at the civic center. A firefighter out with his crew heard the police call and was eventually able to help chase him down. I just went to help apprehend him. Not really our job. We work with the police so much, you know, its it just seemed natural. No one was injured during this incident. The suspect was booked on suspicion of auto theft and hit and run. But investigators say because of the complex nature of this case, its very likely he will be facing some additional charges. Wow. All right. 7 47. Lets get people moving. An hour ago, sheriffs deputies in Santa Clara County confirmed a woman missing on Mount Hamilton has been found alive and minutes ago, she was reunited with her husband. Reporter were here off Mount Hamilton road at the smiths creek calfire station, and about 20 minutes ago is when the reunion took place between the missing hiker, a 61 yearold woman, and her husband. It took place right here. Now, lets go to some video of 61yearold Cristina Puckett. You can see her there in the tan hat. Now, she did not want to talk to the media. But we do know that shes okay. Shes in good health. She was last seen by her husband at 7 30 last night. They went on a hike on the smith creek trail. That is actually in grant ranch park. Thats a county park. Somehow, they got separated. What happened was the husband ended up calling sheriffs deputies about seven hours later at 2 20 in the morning. He told sheriffs deputies that he had been searching for her all night. Were told they are avoid hikers avid hikers. Were not sure how far off the trail she was found but a searchandrescue team assembled about 5 30. They were waiting until daylight break. Tracking dogs were brought in because there is a lot of steep terrain. It was a firefighter who ended up finding puckett at about 6 45 a. M. In great health. It was very warm last night. It was in the 70s. It didnt actually drop in temperature until 5 00 a. M. She was prepared. She had a light jacket and a long sleeved shirt. She said she was pretty comfortable most of the night. Now shes in good health. Shes not seeking any medical treatment. At this point, were basically talking to her, trying to find out what happened. Reporter i was just told that Cristina Puckett was found about 1. 2miles from this calfire fire station. Right now shes back with her husband. Sheriff deputies have been talking to her to find out exactly what happened. They did find out that she did not have a cell phone with her. If she had, even though Cell Phone Service is very spotty up here, it might have still helped them locate her a lot sooner. But gyp, happy ending to but again, a happy ending to this story. A husband and wife reunited. Very lucky since the temperatures were not too cool overnight and she was able to be in good health and uninjured. The attorney for roche said an arbitrator overturned his termination saying the Police Officer was following orders. Roche is being reinstated now with backpay. Reporter hi, dave. Good morning. Well, its still ver early on in the investigation. When we arrived, some of the detectives were just arriving obscene. Many are canvassing the neighborhood as we speak. This area near the end of the 100 block of simonton and griffin drive is blocked off and will be for several hours. The body is covered under a yellower tarp. Police say the victim is africanamerican, between 20, 25 years old. Its unclear whether the victim was the homeowner or a visitor. He didnt have any identification on him. But they say they first got the call around 6 10 from a resident who discovered the body on the front lawn. When Police Arrived, police say he had a gunshot wound to the torso. They are canvassing the neighborhood looking for witnesses. They will conduct the investigation. Obviously, the first hours of any type of investigation of this sort are critical. We have to be careful as to what information is released because we dont want to jeopardize the integrity of the investigation. Reporter several residents that we tried to 12350ebg with didnt want to be on camera. But they said off camera, they were shocked, speechless, rather, this morning that a shooting happened so close to their home. We take it back out here live. Police will be here for several hours conducting their investigation with crime scene technicians and detectives. The coroner has yet to arrive but again this street this area will be blocked off for several hours. Vallejo police have identified the victim of a homicide last weekend. Police say 40yearold erica brian and her 5yearold son were violently attacked in a home on saturday. The suspect, 43yearold darryl wakefield. Bryan died on the way to the hospital. Her 5yearold son is still in the hospital but is expected to survive. Police say other people were in the home at the time of the attack and an 8yearold boy actually called 911. Police have not released how bryan died or the relationship between her and wakefield. Police are stepping up patrols in downtown napa after several incidents of vandalism involving parked cars. Ktvus Tara Moriarty is live with the warning from police about the damage to gas tanks that have led to some expensive repairs. Reporter we know of at least two people who parked at this parking lot. This is walmart. When they came out after doing shopping, they werent able to start their cars because the gas had been drained from the gas tank. It happened at this gas station. If we pan around, you can see the chevron on the corner of lincoln. We have seen a couple of officers on patrol this morning, keeping an eye out. Police say this vandalism is widespread. Its happened in virtually all of downtown napa. Officers say that the thieves are drilling or punching holes in the gas tanks. The suspect hour suspects are trying to drain the gas out of the car causing significant damage resulting in expensive repairs. Kind of like the catalytic converter stories going around. There were six cars in the parking lot a month ago that had the converters cut off. Its hard to say, you know. Its just craziness. Just allout craziness. Reporter firefighters have been responding to many of these calls because of the large amount of gas that leaks createating a hazard. Officers believe thieves are using hand tools such as a screwdriver. They believe suvs are being targeted because of their height. The thieves strike during the day and at night in busy parking lots as well as quiet neighborhood streets. We spoke to one person, a Police Officer, who says that Surveillance Video may help catch the person or people responsible. The san jose Police Department has become the bay areas First Law Enforcement Agency to get a drone. This morning, ktvu news confirmed the Police Department got the unmanned drone back in january using 7,000 in federal grant money. It looks a lot like this one. The guidelines for its use, though, that still has not been developed. But San Jose Police plan to use the drone to help the bomb squad assess threats. Other Bay Area Police agencies may use it for that same purpose. A shortage of officers could force the san jose Police Department to reassign motorcycle traffic officers to the patrol units. San jose police tell ktvu that the departments 11 motorcycle officers may be reassigned to patrol car units. Now, police are reportedly considering this because there are not enough officers to respond to emergency calls. The san jose Police Department has struggled to retain its officers since the passage of measure b which reduced their pension benefits. Supporters of Doctors Medical center in san pablo, they are urging county supervisors to use a tax wind fall to help fund the struggling hospital. [chanting] now, yesterday, the California Nurses Association picketed. The union says a projected 19 million increase in county property tax revenues should be used to keep the Medical Center open. That hospital right now is running on a 6 million loan from the county. It is slated to be closed in october but it may close down sooner since many of the employees are leaving for more stable jobs. There appears to be a growing number of complaints about license plate readers on bay area bridges. Now, those electronically scan a cars license plate at the tollbooth and then send a bill in the mail to the registered owner. According to the chronicle, the scanners can often misread a plate and send a bill to a different driver. Drivers told the chronicle, theyve gotten tickets despite never going near a bridge and some have gotten tickets that dont live the prayer. Bridge officials admit with millions of transactions processed each year, mistakes are sometimes made. Less than 24 hours after chevron received approval to start the 1 billion overhaul. Richmond refinery, now theres talk of stopping the work. Communities for a better environment led the opposition to the project for the last nine years and now the group is talking about filing another lawsuit. The leaders admit the project approved tuesday night is better than the original plan but they say they still want more. We got about 70 of what we wanted. But were looking for 100 guarantee for the communitys health and safety. Now, supporters of the refinery upgrade say this project is a big step in the right direction. They say it brings jobs and money for Community Projects. In addition to making the refinery safer and cleaner. Chevron will try to convince a judge to lift the order that had stopped the construction. Happening today there will be a lot more interest than usual when pg e issues its latest Quarterly Earnings report. Pg e executives will have more to say about the new charms they are facing tied to the pipeline disaster in san bruno four years ago. On tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted pg e on criminal charges for its response to the deadly pipeline explosion and fire in 2010. Pg e has already released a statement calling the charges unwarranted. Executives will be on a webcast this morning. Allegations of racist threats on the job. When officers arrived, they found a 23yearold woman who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the back of her neck. Police say a bullet fired from outside the home went through the walls and hit her as she was sleeping in her bed. She was taken to the hospital where she is expected to survive. Also new this morning, nancy pelosi and other Top Democrats are now responding to a move by House Republicans to sue president obama.
