An 8yearold girl is in Critical Condition after getting shot while playing in her front yard. This Morning Police are searching for the two gunmen. Allie rasmus live for us outside Childrens Hospital in oakland with details. Reporter we checked with Oakland Police to get an update on the girls condition, and they tell us as far as they know shes still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital. This 8yearold girl was playing with her younger brother yesterday evening in front of their home in the area of 66th 66th avenue and floor street in oakland, around 6 30 two men pulled up in a vehicle, jumped out of a car and started shooting. The bullets stuck two people on the block. One struck a man in his 40s and 50s in the hip and a few homes away another bullet struck the 8yearold girl in the neck. There was at least one vehicle driving southbound in the 1800 block of 66th avenue, at least two individuals exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds striking our victims. Its horrible. Its very troubling to hear that another young child has been hurt due to gunfire in oakland. Its really upsetting. Police are calling this a driveby shooting, and they dont know who the gunmen were targeting, but they believe the young girl was an innocent bystander. Police dont have a good description of the gunmen. They were driving a light colored sedan. Investigators mentioned last night that one of the challenges they face is that theyre dealing with a limited number of witnesses. They need more information from the public to find these two gunmen and encourage anyone who may have seen anything to give them a call. The man who was shot in his 40s and 50s he is expected to recover from his injuries, but the 8yearold girl who was struck by a bullet in the neck, she is still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital this morning. Live in oakland, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. An investigation is underway into a pair of shootings in hayward this morning. They occurred less than 4 miles from each other. The fir shooting happened just before 1 ram. A gunman fired and injured two people. The victims were able to run to safety. At 3 30 one person was shot at south garden avenue. Police have not commented about the two cases or whether they are linked. Both happened near interstate 880. Now to our continuing coverage of those wildfires in San Diego County. Firefighters say they are making progress thanks to improved weather conditions. This weekends forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and light winds. Eleven fires this week have burned more than 31 square miles. They have destroyed a few dozen homes and businesses. 176,000 evacuation notices were issued. This stuff can be replaced but you go through the initial trauma, the initial shock of seeing this loss, and tough stuff. A 57yearold man has been charged with starting one of the fires. Alberto serrato pleaded not guilty yesterday in connection with the 105acre fire in the ocean side area. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. A couple of thousand firefighters are still on the front lines this morning. Some of those crews are from the bay area. They include firefighters from livermore, pleasanton, fremont, hayward and oakland. Teams from monterey to the oregon border have been on stand by. A brush fire burning a remote area southwest of morgan hill is 90 contained. That fire started yesterday afternoon in the southern Santa Cruz Mountains near you ridge and summit roads. Crews will remain on the scene today making sure that fire does not flare back up. Theres been several fires that have gotten very large. With the appropriate response, well keep it to 2 acres. The cause of that fire has not yet been determined. In september of 2002, the croix burned for days near morgan hill. It destroyed 34 homes. At that time it was the Third Largest fire in Santa Clara County. The fire started accidentally in a storage trailer. Last night in modesto a fire destroyed five homes and damaged three others. Fire crews blame the heavy loss on strong winds. 20 Miles Per Hour winds caused the vegetation fire to spread to nearby townhouses. Firefighters say those homes were closely clustered together and when one home caught fire, the whole block was in danger. All i seen was like flames blazing down, and i just told my mom i was like get out of the house. One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Investigators say its too early to know what started the blaze. Firefighters stayed on scene to make sure that fire did not flareup. The family of a track worker hit and killed by a b. A. R. T. Train is suing the transit agency. The daughters of 66yearold Lawrence Daniels accused b. A. R. T. Of negligence. Daniels and 58yearold christopher shepherd were killed while inspecting a dip in the tracks near the walnut creek train station last october. The lawsuit claims they were hit by an inexperienced train operator who was practicing at the time due to the b. A. R. T. Strike. B. A. R. T. Has not commented yet about the lawsuit. A walk is planned in San Francisco for a missing man, 19 yearold shawn city has been missing since may 21st of last year. His family says he met a former teacher at the French American International school. He then placed a call to his father from Golden Gate Park and has not been heard from since. He had been recovering from a traumatic brain injury. The walk will start in front of the French American International school at 12 30 this afternoon. The Walnut Creek Police department is sending out a warning about a coordinated Training Exercise today. Officers are scheduled to hold that Training Session at Walnut Creek Intermediate School on walnut boulevard. People in the area are being advised they may hear simulated gunfire screaming and others noises. That exercise is expected to end by 5 tonight. Law enforcement in richmond plan to crack down on drunk drivers tonight. Dui check points will be set up at undisclosed positions from 7 00 tonight until 2 in the morning. A west Contra Costa Transit Authority bus driver is being credited for stepping in between some teenagers and a pit bull. It happened on wednesday as craig willis was driving past the pinole public library. This bus Surveillance Video shows the dog charging back and forth. He says he saw the pit bull growling at some teenagers and knew he had to do something. He got out of the bus and stepped between the dogs and the teens so they could safely get into the library. What i did was something i hope anybody would do for my kids. Its not its not heroic. Its somebody carrying. County animal control is conducting an investigation. They say this is the second time in two months the dog has charged someone. A 22yearold woman was seriously injured at bostons fenway park after she fell two floors down an elevator shaft. It happened last night as the red sox played the tigers. Authority says the shaft forced floor doors open unexpectedly and the women fell to the second level landing on top of the elevator car. Gay rights supporters are celebrating in idaho after a federal judge ruled that idahos gay marriage ban is unconstitutional. The decision came tuesday when judge candy bail said the marriage law violates couples rights under the due process and equal protection clauses of the 4th amendment. The rule was was put on hold. East bay congressman Eric Swalwell says the south bay teenager who stowed away on a plane, yesterday he invited hightech companies to the Alameda CountySheriffs Office to demonstrate Airport Security solutions. Swalwell says the teenager who scaled the fence undetected was one of six major Security Breaches at u. S. Airports in the past five years. There are no requirementsed to that airport officials be alerted when a perimeter is breached. Swalwell is proposing that Transportation Security Administration set up a Pilot Program to test the bay areas technologies that were demonstrated. He says the public deserves to be kept safe when they travel. Two of the four runways at San Francisco international are now closed. They will remain closed for about three to four months for safety upgrades. Construction crews will be adding new concrete to the runways. The airport says this could mean some flight delays up to 15 minutes. The concrete being added is designed to grip the landing gear if a plane overshoots the runway. Its called engineered materials resting system. It will look like soft concrete squares and the plane will sink into those without causing any damage to the plane or injuries to the passengers. Were in the hills of ocean side looking out towards camp pendleton, a huge area for those who know it. Military firefighting units are taking on three separate wildfires on or near camp pendleton, this massive base. 22,000 acres in this pocket alone. Theres evacuations on base including 8400 military personnel and their families. As for arrests, there have been three and were talking around the George County area here in the San Diego County area, 19 yearold isaiah silver from escondido and a 17yearold as well. They face attempted arson charges at a small park. Both are not connected to these bigger fires. Theres been about a dozen. A 57yearold ocean side man has been charged with arson, more specifically adding brush to an existing fire in a river bed. While the fire in san marcos, the escondido area is now 50 contained. The drought, the fuel conditions, were getting offshore our santa ana winds in may. This is setting up to be a very busy season. All agencies including cal fire have increased staffing. In carls bad containment is now 90 . Property damage there about 30 homes are waiting for the final number. Commercial properties as well. A badly burned body, also recovered at a homeless encampment. It was the kind of place that wasnt that big of a secret. Novato police are stepping up patrols to discourage a serial arsonist from striking again. More than a dozen small fires were set near redwood boulevard and Briarwood Court thursday night. The fires burned dangerously close to some homes. Its in the same neighborhood where a series of fires were set two years ago. Theyre very concerned, and its important that we have the communitys help in finding out who it is thats doing this, so were asking for Community Members to keep an eye out and to give us a call if theres anyone suspicious in the area. No one was arrested where those fires were set two years ago. Investigators are looking whether theres a link between the fires. An investigation is underway into the drowning death of an 18monthold baby. It happened around 3 45 yesterday at a house on Zinfandel Court in antioch. When the family members found the baby he wasnt breathing. Paramedics performed cpr and took him to the hospital. He did not survive. There was a fence around the pool and adults were present at the time of the drowning. The u. S. Coast guard is kicking off National Boat safety week with free boat safety checks at oyster point in south San Francisco. The number of one thing the coast guard will be looking for is they are going to make sure that each boat is equipped with life jackets. Officials say more than 500 people drowning in Recreational Boating accidents. In 201,285 of those who died in boating accidents werent wearing a life jacket. A young father shot and killed in san jose has been identified as 25yearold jimmy coppas junior. He was killed around 11 00 thursday night on gridley street. Another car pulled up next to them and shot him. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Were trying to come to terms with who would drive up in the middle of the night like a thief and steal his life. Homicide detectives say they are trying to determine if coppas was targeted. They do not have a description of the gunman. Police track down a man who is behind a violent attack on a worker at a San Francisco pizza shop. It happened in february on the corner of broadway and columbus. Ktvu obtained this Surveillance Video showing two men walking in. One walked towards the restroom in the book. The other waits in the front. On their way out they talk to the employees when one of the two men hits a worker knocking him out. The fact it was so unprovoked and so vicious that they dont even have a chance to defend themselves. Its disturbing to watch. The attacker is trained in mixed martial arts. After more than two months of investigating, 22yearold ethan ama was arrested thursday morning after a traffic stop. Police say the victim needed four stitches and suffered headaches and back pain for weeks after the attack. A man caught on Surveillance Video robbing and kicking a woman in the head in San Francisco has been sentenced to six years in prison. That attack happened last june during the citys pink saturday celebration. 23yearold Christopher Porter bailey of on the ground land was sentenced yesterday. The 28yearold victim didnt want us to show her face but says the attack has left her emotionally scarred. I would have preferred it to be longer. I wish he would have gotten the maximum eight years but i do feel that six is, you know, its better than nothing. Two other people are set to be sentenced next week. The marin county man convicted of attempted murder and stealing a lamborghini has been transferred to a maximum security prison. In january 19yearold max wade was sentenced to life in prison. Until now hes been serving his time at san quentin. He was convicted of attempted murder for a driveby shooting in mill valley and for stealing that lamborghini owned by guy fieri. Now figures show an alarming increase in californias whooping cough cases. Sonoma county has 310 cases reported this year. Statewide there have been more than 1700 cases of whooping cough. Thats more than three times the number of cases compared to this time last year. Doctors say the increase could indicate a cyclical peak. Whooping cough cases spike every three to five years. President obama says he will not allow congress to stand in the way of improving the nations economy. If continue doesnt act by the end of this summer, federal funding for transportation projects will run out. States might have to put some of their projects on hold. In fact, some already are because theyre worried Congress Wont clear up its own gridlock. The president says he is committed to act even if Congress Wont. At San Franciscos marina green triangle located right across from the safeway on marina boulevard. Cars from bmw, nissan and tesla will be available. The events are designed to increase interest in driving electric cars and to encourage people to make that switch. Starting monday, muni is testing a seat arrangement. The new seat configuration has more standing room by replacing double wide seats with single wide seats. The program will launch on one car on the end, another car on the l line will be converted between june 2nd and june 13 june 13th. This is expected to make room for at least ten more passengers to stand. A new parking fee at the large terminal isnt bringing in a locate of cash but the fines for not paying the fee are. The 2 parking fee started in february. The Golden Gate Bridge district says it never intended to profit from the fee but knew money would come in from parking tickets. Anyone who does not pay that 2 is fined with a 45 ticket. In the first three months, we raised just over 150,000. The most tickets weve written in a day is 33. The district is on pace for 600,000 in added revenue from that parking fee. Its budgeted goal 400,000. We asked the district how many tickets theyve issued so far but have yet to get the figure. Its a Popular National park that brings thousands of visitors each year. One group is trying to change that. The new battle that could limit the number of people who visit the park. As the sun rose over Golden Gate Fields we caught up with trainer Steve Sherman as he tended to business before heading to baltimore for todays big race. Steve and his family have been fixtures at bay area racetracks as either exercise riders, jockeys or trainers for more than 60 years. But now they say theyre living a dream all because of a 3year old chestnut colt named California Chrome. The owner approached me, and he said, steve, ive got the Kentucky Derby winner. And this was early on. This was early on. He was just two. I mean early two, like january so he just turned two. I said oh, really. Im just saying okay, we all hear that. Steve recommended his dad, 77yearold art sherman for the head training job and his brother alan as assistant trainer and thats when this fairy tale story really began to take off. Two weeks ago California Chrome or junior as they like to call him became the first california bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby in 52 years. It was his fifth straight victory, and today hes the big favorite to win the preakness at pimlico. Who ever would think that it was going to be this type of horse. I mean, but the odds are so against you its unbelievable. California chrome is the product of a 10,000 investment in a sport where people pay millions for a chance to breed a champion. And just recently junior drew a 6 million offer for 51 ownership, but his owners turned it down. Horse racing is a sport that is steeped in tradition, and Sherman Family says they have a few race day traditions of their own. Right when i throw it up, i say to the owners lets get lucky. The meteorologist found the kitten on thursday in the debris of a destroyed farmhouse in cedarville. He was surveying the damage of the storm when he came across that tiny little kitten and he and his photographer say they kept that kitten warm by blowing its coat dry with a hair drier. The kitten is back with its family. A south bay family is hoping someone will come forward and return the ring to a 94yearold grandmother in time to celebrate her anniversary. Betty leerys wedding and Engagement Rings were stolen last night in san jose. Her son david was holding the rings while his mother was in the hospital when his rented suv was broken into. Doctors at Childrens Hospital say its too early to tell if an 8yearold shooting victim will survive. That girl was shot while playing in her front yard. Allie rasmus live this morning outside of childrens with an update on the childs condition. Reporter police are calling it a driveby shooting. It happened yesterday evening, and this morning according to police this 8yearold girl is still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital. Now it happened in the area of 66th avenue in oakland. The 8yearold girl and her younger brother were outside in the front yard playing. Other people were outside in their yards in front of their homes as well. Around 6 30 alights colored sedan drove down the block. The car stopped, two men jumped out with guns drawn and started shooting. There were multiple rounds, more than ten, multiple round. How would you describe Something Like this . It appeared that this would have been a driveby shooting. One of the bullets struck the 8yearold girl in the neck. Another struck a 40 to 50year old man in the hip. The man is expected to recover from his injuries. The 8yearold was more gravely injured and according to police she is still in Critical Condition this morning at Childrens Hospital. Police dont know who the gunmen were targeting. We know they were driving a light colored sedan. Investigators mentioned yesterday that one of their challenges is that they say they are dealing with a limited number of witnesses. It appears they need more information from the community for this investigation and anyone with information is asked to give Oakland Police a call. Live in oakland, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. An investigation is underway into a pair of shootings in hayward early this morning. They occurred less than 4 miles from each other. The first shooting happened before 1 a. M. An bahama avenue. We are told a gunman fired and injured two people. At 3 30 a. M. One person was shot on a south garden avenue. So far police have not commented about the two cases or whether they are linked. Both happened near interstate 880. New this morning, police in pacifica are dealing with a man who has posted himself on someones roof. The homeowner sent us these pictures. She says the mans been up there since about 11 00 last night, and police have tried to coax him town, but the homeowner says every time they do he gets belligerent. Police are letting the man stay on the roof until he calms down. Some streets nearby have been blocked off because of this. And now to our continuing coverage of the wildfires in San Diego County. Firefighters say they are making progress thanks to improved weather conditions. This weekends forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and light winds. Eleven fires this week have burned more than 31 square miles. They have also destroyed a few dozen homes and businesses. Now at the height of the fires, 176,000 evacuation notices were issued. This stuff can be replaced but you go through the initial trauma, the initial shock of seeing this loss, and whew, tough stuff. A 57yearold man has been charged with starting one of the fires. Alberto serrato pleaded not guilty in connection with a 105 acre fire in the ocean side area. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. A couple of thousand firefighters are still on the front lines this morning. Some of the crews are from the bay area. They include firefighters from livermore, pleasanton, fremont, hayward, and oakland. Strike teams from monterey to the oregon border have also been on stand by. A brush fire burning in a remote area southwest of morgan hill is now 90 contained. The fire started yesterday afternoon in the southern Santa Cruz Mountains near croix ridge and the summit roads. Crews will remane on scene making sure that fire does not flare back up. With the appropriate response well keep it to 2 acres. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Back in september of 2002, the croix fire burned for days, it covered 3200 achier and destroyed 32 homes. It was the 3rd largest fire in Santa Clara County. Investigators determined the fire started accidentally in a storage trailer. A vegetation fire destroyed five homes. 20 Miles Per Hour cause that had vegetation fire to spread to nearby townhouses. Firefighters say those homes were closely clustered together. When one home caught fire the whole block was in danger. All i seen was like flames blazing down, and i just told my mom like get out of the house. One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Investigators say its too early to know what started that blaze. Firefighters did stay on scene to try to make sure that fire did not flareup. The family of a track worker hit and killed by a b. A. R. T. Train is suing the transit agency. The daughters of 66yearold Lawrence Daniels accused b. A. R. T. Of negligence. Daniels and 58yearold christopher shepherd were killed while inspecting a dip in the tracks near the walnut creek train station last october. The lawsuit claims they were hit by an inexperienced train operator who was practicing at the time because of the b. A. R. T. Strike. B. A. R. T. Has not commented yet about the lawsuit. A walk is planned today in San Francisco for a missing man, 19yearold sean sidi has been missing since may 21st of last year. His family says he met a former teacher at the French American International school. He then placed a call to his father from Golden Gate Park and has not been heard from since. His family says hes been recovering from a traumatic brain injury. The walk will start in front of the French American International school at 12 30 this afternoon. The Walnut Creek Police department is sending out a warning about a coordinated Training Exercise today. Officers are scheduled to hold a Training Session at Walnut Creek Intermediate School on walnut boulevard. People in the area are being advised that they may hear simulated gunfire, screaming and other noises. The exercise is expected to end about 5 00 tonight. Later this morning, one of those powerful women in the country will offer words of wiz tom to this years graduates at uc berkeley. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will speak at the campus wide ceremony. Its expected to be one of the universitys largest commencements in recent history. 21,000 graduates, family members and faculty will attend the event. San jose state is canceling the planned increase of its Student Success. The university announced this week it will charge students 295 for the fall 2014 semester. University officials said they will unbundle the fee to give students a better idea of where that money is going. Last month students walked out of class to protest an 80 fee hike saying most of it goes to athletics. George shirakawa junior is no longer in jail. The Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office says he was released after seven months of a yearlong sentence on corruption conviction. Shirakawa spent his time rather than than in Santa Clara County because hes a high profile inmate. He pleaded guilty to charges including the misuse of public funds for gambling and lavish meals. We are just 24 hours away from a classic tradition, bay to breakers in San Francisco. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend this years race. Registered runners picked up their packets in San Francisco yesterday. Organizers say registration is up by about 25 this year. The massive man hunt for orrville fleming came to an end yesterday when a detective spotted him getting on a bus many South Sacramento county. Fleming admitted killing his girlfriend 26yearold sarah douglas. His arrest comes more than two weeks after her body was found. Weve been shocked for 15 days, and now were just totally relieved, totally relieved that hes found. I can say that for a lot of people were going to be able to sleep better knowing that no one else is going to get hurt. Investigators say the man hunt was complicated because of flemings extensive skills in the outdoors as well as his knowledge with californias mountains. Friends and family continue to mourn the deaths of a 3year old boy is and his mother. The Fire Department says the smoke alarms never went off, and they are still investigating why. The victims family has hired an attorney to perform their own investigations. A west Contra Costa Transit Authority bus driver is being credited for stepping in between some teenagers and a pit bull. It happened on wednesday as craig willis was driving past the pinole public library. This bus Surveillance Video here shows the dog charging back and forth. He saw the pit bull growling at some teenagers and knew he had to do something. He got out of the bus and stepped between the dog and the teen so that they could safely get into the library. What i did was something i hope anybody would do for my kids. Its not its not heroic. Its somebody caring about somebody. Thats all. County animal control is conducting an investigation. They say this is the second time in two months that dog has charged at someone. A 22yearold woman who was seriously injured at bostons fenway park after she fell two floors down an elevator shaft. It happened last night as the red sox played the tigers. The shafts fourth floor doors opened unexpectedly and the woman fell to the second level. She landed on top of an elevator car. Rescuers reached the woman through a hatch in the elevators roof. State elevator inspectors are looking into why those doors opened. Neighbors who live nearby, mere Woods National monument are fighting to put a limit on the number of visitors. People say clouds living back up the roads. They suggest limiting the annual visitors to 750,000 which is 150,000 visitors fewer than the park had last year. Theyre asking the National Park service to promise never build more parking lots. Reporter police say she was an innocent bystander, a child caught in the cross fire of an apparent driveby shooting. The 8yearold girl is still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital after undergoing surgery last night. She was playing in her front yard with her younger brother yesterday evening when this happened. It was in the area of 66th 66th avenue in oakland. Arnold 6 around 6 30 a light colored sedan stopped in the street. Two men got out of the car with guns drawn and start shooting. One of the bullets struck a man in his 40s or 50s in the hip. He is expected to recover. The 8yearold girl was more gravely injured when another bullet struck her in the neck. Its horrible. Its very troubling to hear that another young child has been hurt due to gunfire in oakland. Its really upsetting. Now police dont know who the gunmen were targeting and they dont have a good description of them. All we know is that they were driving a light colored sedan. Last night investigators mentioned the need for more information from the community. They said they were dealing with a limited number of witnesses, so it looks like they are still asking for anyone with information to come forward and help them with this investigation. Now the man who was shot is expected to recover from his injuries, but again, this 8 yearold girl according to doctors is still in Critical Condition here at oaklands Childrens Hospital. Firefighters say they are making progress thanks to improved weather conditions. This weekends forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and light winds. 11 fires this week have burned more than 31 square miles. They have also destroyed a few dozen homes and businesses. And at the height of the fires 176,000 evacuation notices were issued. I got all the paperwork. Ive done everything i can. Worry is not going to make it any wetter. A 57yearold man has been charged with starting one of those fires. Alberto serrato pleaded not guilty yesterday in connection with 105acre fire in the ocean side area. He faces seven years in prison it convicted. The San Diego County fires created a unique situation for one reporter. Going to try not to get mauled. Television reporter joe little helped rescue a 4year old bull terrier named oakley who was all alone and locked in the backyard of a house since the fire broke out wednesday. The neighborhood was evacuated while his owner samantha was at work. Police would not let her go back to retrieve oakley. Samantha was worried and desperate. She called little who was allowed into the neighborhood to cover the fires. Little took the dog and drove him to his grateful owner samantha says homes are replaceable. Lives are not. Oakley is definitely a member of her family. Novato police are stepping up patrols to discourage a serial arsonist from striking again. More than a dozen fires were set in northern novato thursday night. The fires burned dangerously close to some homes. It is the same neighborhood where a series of fires were set two years ago. Theyre very, very concerned. Its important that we have the communitys help in finding out who it is thats doing this, so were asking for Community Members to keep an eye out and to give us a call if theres anyone suspicious in the area. No one was ever arrested when those fires were set two years ago. Investigators are looking into whether theres a link between the fires. An investigation is underway into the drowning death of an 18monthold baby. It happened yesterday afternoon at a house on Zinfandel Court in antioch. When the family members found the baby he wasnt breathing. Paramedics performed cpr and took him to the hospital. He did not survive. There was a fence around the pool and adults were present at the time of the drowning. Police strike down a man who they say is behind a violate attack on a worker at a San Francisco pizza shop. It happened in february at nizarios pizza. We obtained the Surveillance Video showing two men walking in. One walks towards the restroom and the other waits in the front. On their way out they talked to the employees when one of the two men suddenly hits the worker. The attack was so unprovoked and so vicious that they dont have a chance to defend themselves. Police say the attacker is trained in mixed martial arts and knocked out that one employee after more than two months of investigating, 22 yearold ethan ama was arrested thursday morning after a traffic stop. A man caught on Surveillance Video robbing and kicking a woman in the head in San Francisco has been sentence today six years in prison. The attack happened last june during the citys pink saturday celebration. 22yearold Christopher Porter bailey of oakland was sentenced yesterday. The 28yearold victim did not want us to show her face, but she told us that the attack has left her emotionally scarred. I would have preferred it to be longer. I wish he would have gotten the maximum eight years, but i do feel that six is, you know, its better than nothing. Two other people are set to be sentenced next week. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. It was back in september of 2002, the croix fire burned for days near morgan hill, covering 3200 acres and destroyed 34 homes. At that time, it was the Third Largest fire in Santa Clara County. Investigators determined the fire started accidentally in a storage trailer. A walk is planned today in San Francisco for a missing man. 19yearold sean city has been missing since may 21st of last year. His family says he met a former teacher at the French American International school. He then placed a call to his father from Golden Gate Park and he has not been heard from since. Citys family says he has been recovering from a traumatic brain injury. The walk will start in front of the French American International school at 12 30 this afternoon. The family of a track worker hit and killed by a bart train is now suing that transit agency. The daughters of 66yearold Lawrence Daniels accused bart of negligence. Daniels and 58yearold christopher shepherd were killed while inspecting a dip in the track near the walnut creek train station last october. The lawsuit claims they were hit by an inexperienced train operator who was practicing at the time due to bart strike. Bart has not commented about the lawsuit. The Walnut Creek Police department is sending out a warning about a coordinated Training Exercise today. Officers are scheduled to hold a Training Session at Walnut Creek Intermediate School on walnut boulevard. People in the area are being advised they may hear simulated gunfire, screaming, and other noises. The exercise is expected to end at 5 00 tonight. Burlingame is the latest city to be hit with a scam involving outstanding utility bills. Police say at least four local businesses have been called by someone claiming to work for pg e. The caller says the bill is past due and tells them to use a prepaid green dot money back card to make payment. Business owners in san jose and sebastopol have also been targeted. Former Santa Clara County supervisor george shirakawa, jr. Is no longer in jail. He was released after seven months of a yearlong sentence on a corruption conviction. Shirakawa spent his time at the santa rita jail in dublin rather than Santa Clara County because he is high profile. He had pleaded guilty to the charges, including the misuse of public funds for gambling and lavish meals. San jose state has decided to cancel its planned increase of its Student Success fee. The university announced this week it will charge the students 295 for the fall 2014 semester, the same as it was last semester. University officials also said they will unbundle the fee in the effort to give students a better idea of where that money is going. Last month, students walked out of class to protest an 80 fee hike, saying most of it was going to athletics. U. S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will deliver todays commencement address at uc berkeley at memorial stadium. It begins at 10 00 this morning. Well, right now, Police Continue to search for two gunmen who opened fire on a busy street in oakland. An 8yearold girl was hit by a stray bullet in that gunfire as she played outside her home. Ktvus allie rasmus is live outside Childrens Hospital in oakland where the girl underwent emergency surgery. Reporter we checked with Oakland Police this morning for an updated condition on the 8 yearold girl. They say she is still in Critical Condition at oakland Childrens Hospital, after being struck by a bullet in an apparent driveby shooting. The 8yearold girl was playing in her front yard with her younger brother yesterday evening in the area of 66th avenue and florez street in oakland. Around 6 30, police say a car driving south on 66th avenue stopped in the street and two men got out of the car with their guns drawn and started shooting. One of the bullets struck a man in his forties or fifties in the hip. Another bullet struck the 8 yearold girl in the neck. There was at least one vehicle driving southbound in the 1800 block of 66th avenue, at least two individuals exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds northbound, striking our victims. Its horrible. Its very troubling to hear that another young child has been hurt due to gunfire in oakland. Its really, really upsetting. Reporter now, police dont know who the gunmen were targeting, but they believe the young girl was an innocent bystander. Police dont have a good description of the gunman either. All we know is they were driving a lightcolored sedan. One of the challenges for investigators they mentioned last night is they said they were dealing with a, quote, limited number of witnesses, so they would like more people with information to come forward. Now, the man who was shot in the hip is expected to recover from his injuries. However, that 8yearold girl is still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital. Firefighters say they are making progress, thanks to improved weather conditions. This weekends forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and light winds. Eleven fires this week have burned more than 31 square miles, also destroyed a few dozen homes and businesses. At the height of the fire, 176,000 evacuation notices were issued. Ive got all the paperwork. I got everything i can. Worrying is not going to make it any better. A 57yearold man has been charged with starting one of those fires. Alberto serrato pleaded not guilty in connection to a fire in the ocean side area. He faces up to 75 years in prison, if convicted. The San Diego County fires create a unique situation for one reporter. [ dog barking ] 4yearold oakley has been alone, locked in the backyard of a house since the fire broke out wednesday. The neighborhood was evacuated while his owner, samantha, was at work. Police would not let her go back to retrieve the bull terrier, so samantha was worried and desperate and called a local news reporter, joe little, who was allowed into the neighborhood to cover the fire. Well, little got the dog and put him in his car, even took a selfie, then drove to oakley to his grateful owner. Hi, sweetie hi, sweetie homes are replaceable. Lives arent. Hes our family. The reporter had originally planned to bring oakley some dog treats to tide him over, but oakley captured his heart and the reporter felt he neededded to reunite oakley with his owner. A young father shot and killed in san jose has been identified as 25yearold jimmy copas, jr. He was killed around 11 00 thursday night on gridly street, as he and his wife were driving to get gas. Another car pulled up and shot copas. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Were trying to come to terms with who would drive up in the middle of the night like a thief and steal his life. Homicide detectives say they are trying to determine if copas was targeted. Right now, they do not have a description of the gunman. Police tracked down a man who they say is behind a violent attack at a worker at a San Francisco pizza shop. It happened in february at the corner of broadway and columbus. Ktvu obtained the Surveillance Video showing two men walking in. One of them walked towards the bathroom in the back, the other waits in the front. On their way out, they talk with employees, when one of the two men, you can see right there, hits a worker. The attack was so unprovoked and so vicious, that they dont even have a chance to defend themselves. Its disturbing to watch. Police say the attacker is trained in mixed martial arts. After more than two months of investigating, a 22yearold was arrested thursday morning after a traffic stop. The victim needed four stitches and suffered back pain for weeks after the attack. A man caught on surveillance vehicle robbing and kicking a woman in the head in San Francisco has been sentenced to six years in prison. 23yearold Christopher Porter bailey of oakland was sentenced yesterday. The 28yearold victim did not want us to show her face, but she told us the attack has left her emotionally scarred. I would have preferred it to be longer. I wish he would have gotten the maximum eight years. But i do feel that six is, you know, its better than nothing. Two other people are set to be sentenced next week. The marin county teenager convicted of attempted murder and stealing a lambourghini has been transferred to a maximum security prison. 19yearold max wade had been serving his time in san quinten. He was convicted for stealing a lambourghini owned by celebrity chef guy fieri. President obama says he will not allow congress to stand in the way of improving the nations economy. If congress doesnt act by the end of this summer, federal funding for transportation projects will run out. States might have to put some of their projects on hold. In fact, some already are, because they are worried Congress Wont clear up its own gridlock. In this mornings weekly address, the president says hes committed to act, even if Congress Wont. Reporter as the sun rose over Golden Gate Fields, we caught up with trainer Steve Sherman, as he tended to business before heading to baltimore for todays big race. Steve and his family have been fixtures at bay area racetracks, as either exercise riders, jockeys, or trainers, for more than 60 years. But now they say they are living a dream, all because of a 3yearold chestnut colt named California Chrome. The owner approached me and he says, steve, ive got the Kentucky Derby winner. This was early on . This was early on. Early, too, like january. He just turned two. I said oh, really . Im saying, okay, we all hear that. Reporter steve recommended his dad, 77yearold art sherman for the head training job, and his brother alan as assistant trainer. And thats when this fairy tale story really began to take off. Two weeks ago, California Chrome, or junior, as they like to call him, became the first californiabred horse to win the Kentucky Derby in 52 years. A humpback whale that spent weeks tangled in a steel rope is swimming freely again this morning thanks to a group of marine biologists. The whale was recent skewed off the Santa Barbara coast. It was first spotted last month dragging heavy fishing gear that prevented the whale from diving to feed. Weather hammered efforts to free the whale initially when it was spotted, but satellite tracker helped crews find it and free the mammal this week.
