As the players and coaches arrived home from seattle, late last night, they were greeted by a huge group of very proud fans. [ cheers ] reporter pretty goodsized crowd. Close to 2009er fans lined the streets outside of headquarters. This was after 11 30. The crowd erupted in applause as the team bus pulled in just back from seattle after that difficult 2317 loss to the rival seahawks in the nfc title game. As the players and coaches drove out of the facility, some of emthis waved to the crowd. Even though the team couldnt get back to the super bowl this year, they certainly played tough. Fans say this believe this team has what it takes to win that sixth championship. They appreciate the effort all season. Thanks for fighting your hearts out. Everybody did a great job from the first guy to the 53rd good to the locker room guys, to the head coach, jim harbaugh. All did a great job. Reporter despite Colin Kaepernicks interception late in the game that sealed the victory for the seahawks, many people still think hes the right quarterback to lead the 49ers to another championship. All of them were parked. One manager at pedros cantina said he had to turn people away. He said the crowd kept it under control, especially when the game took a turn for the worse. If the 49ers had run, police were ready. They say after last years championship win, fans started fires and vandalized a muni bus. Coming up in 15 minute, the steps the police and city took to make sure Nothing Happened after yesterdays game. The seahawks, meantime, will face the denver broncos. It may have been the last postseason matchup for tom brady and paytop manning. The broncos went on to win, 26 15. A frightening situation for people in a san jose neighborhood after a plan threatened to burn down a home. That man is now it is now in custody. Janine de la vega has details you will only see on 2. Reporter tori, police say it was intense for a while because the man was holding gasoline containers. Police also thought he may have had access to weapons. They wanted to make sure they kept people safe. After 20 minutes or so, officers finally got their man. Now heres exclusive video showing the suspect that police took in custody. You can tell him yelling in pain. This all started as police were called to reagan at around 11 30 last night. After people say the man was threatening to use gasoline to burn down the property. When officers arrived, they found the man barricaded himself into a shed in the back of the home. He was holding a woman there against her will. Police started to negotiate with them and the woman was able to escape. He lit the shed on fire. They were trying to negotiate and get him out, he lit the shed on fire and was engulfed. He eventually came out, resisted. Officers had to use some force to take him into custody. Reporter firefighters were able to extinguish the fire which only damaged the shed. Police tased the 34yearold suspect and using k9s to capture him. He was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Hes being interviewed there. He will face charges of resisting arrest and arson. He also had outstanding warrants. Its unknown what the suspects motive was or if he knew the people who lived in the main house. People were evacuated for safety reasons. But everybody is now safe and back in their houses. Reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. Police want to know what caused a crash that killed a man in hayward. It happened last night on industrial parkway near interstate 880 about 7 30. Police say the man was driving erratically, changing lanes and possibly speeding when he went off the road and crashed into a light pole. He was not wearing a seat belt. Early saturday morning, the crews began to deflate the roof for todays demolition. Construction crews say the new stadium should be ready in time for the 2016 season. In the meantime, the team has made a deal with the university of minnesota to play home games at its stadium. 7 24. San Francisco Police were braced. Police increased patrols and they were watching Mission District street corners. Police say fan violence has been a problem in that area especially when people have been drinking. San Francisco Police arrested a handful of people for public intoxication and for fighting. It was a party in seattle. Seahawk fans celebrating in the streets, celebrating their teams win. But the early betters are putting their money on denver. At 10 00 this morning, the charter train leaves the san Jose Caltrain station and goes to San Francisco. The freedom train commemorates the district on foot. Organizers say tickets for the freedom train have been slow the last couple of years. So this may be the trains last year. 7 33. Vice President Joe Biden just finished speaking at an event in washington, d. C. Honoring dr. Martin luther king, junior. The Vice President focused most of his comments on what he called new attacks on the Voting Rights act. Dr. King, if you remember, we all do, in 65 wrote from the jail, he said, voting is the Foundation Stone for political action. Vice President Biden said once the Voting Rights act was passed, he naively thought the matter was settled. He said he cant believe people have to fight again to make sure the right to vote is guaranteed for everybody. Calfire issued winter burn bans for three north bay counties. Allie rasmus joins us from petaluma with more on what is being banned and why. Reporter well, about 15 minutes ago, i got off the phone with one of the fire captains at their petaluma station. He says hes worked for calfire during the last 14 years. During that time, he cannot remember the time the Agency Issued a burn ban in the middle of winter. This is the reason why. You can see evidence in petaluma of the dry conditions all around us. This burn ban is in effect for sonoma, napa and solano counties. It went into effect at midnight. Residents are not allowed to burn leaves or vegetation. This concerns vineyards. Calfire officials are concerned about fire. The agency has an extra 125 seasonal firefighters onhand in the Northern Region which extends from the north bay all the way up to the oregon border. They are on stand by in case a fire breaks out. The latest was a small wildfire over the weekend in a remote section of the Mount Tamalpais watershed. That fire burned an anchor of brush anchor of brush. No one was hurt. Its a reminder of the unusual fire danger were facing this time of year. While the burn ban is new here, its already been in effect in san mateo, alameda, santa clara, contra costa and santa cruz counties. Theyve had a burn ban in effect since december 30th. Live in petaluma, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. Fires in los angeles county, still working on a wildfire. Its about 78 contained. Firefighters effect full containment by wednesday. So far its 0 burned more than 19 its burned more than 1900 acres in the Angeles National forest. Investigators say an illegal camp fire started that fire. Police say three men in their 20s have been arrested in connection with the fire. The drought changing the way restaurants use water. In sacramento, the restaurants there will only serve water upon request. Dish washing machines will be filled before they are used. The city Council Voted to require residents to reduce water use by 20 to 30 . An oakland mother devastated after two of her sons were shot to death in less than a month. Police say 19yearold Lamar Broussard and his friend were driving toward 100th and longfellow when two gunmen opened gunfire. The men were killed at the scene. Just a week before that, broussard bur you ared his brother, 13yearold weathersby iii. He was gunned down new years eve blocks away from home. Family members are devastated. Now we have to deal with Something Like this. Its a senseless death. Our family has never dealt with death like this. Oakland Police Believe the men killed yesterday were targeted. The name of the second spell has not been victim has not been released yesterday. Police in oakley are looking into a shooting that left one man dead. That happened just before noontime on norcross lane near oakley park and west ruby street. Police found a 23yearold man who had been shot in front of his home. He died there at the scene. So far, police have not told us the victims name or any information. Oakland police want to know who created fliers in an oakland neighborhood showing a city councilwoman with a swastika on her forehead. The tribune reports the fliers vote libby shaft and stop dac. Thats a Police Surveillance center for police and firefighters. Shaft sell tells the tribune the fliers are particularly hurtful. U. S. Lawmakers are very concerned about security at the sochi olympics after a newly surfaced video that threatened an attack. About a month ago, a bus and train station were targets in a suicide bombing in the russian city of volgograd. These two men posted a video on a wellknown jihadi website and they also talked about plans for the olympic games. They have morned some 30,000 armed troops down to the region. That tells you that their level of concern is great. But we dont seem to be getting all of the information we need to protect our athletes in the games. Now, russias president , vladimir putin, says hes gonna make sure the visitors are safe at the olympics. He talked about Safety Measures at the g8 and g20. The torch has just reached the city of volgograd. Thats where the suicide bombings killed more than 30 people last month. There are a lot of police present in the city. So far no serious injuries have been reported. Flurelated deaths in california may be close to matching the death toll from the flew for all of last year. The chronicle reports there have been 45 flurelated deaths under the age of 65. Under 50 deaths that may have been caused by the investigation. Theres been a spike in whooping cough cases among children in california. The whooping cough is very contagious. Its a respiratory disease. Reports show the cases rose last year from 1,023 to 1,669. Almost 83 of whooping cough cases were discovered between the ages of 7 and 16. New allegations involving 00s camp this morning Chris Christies camp this morning. Also, a pod of stranded whales. What marin biologists are saying about those whales and how rescuers were able to get them back into deeper waters. San Francisco Police made an arrest in last nights shooting that injured two people. Now, it happened on turk street about 9 00 p. M. Police say one person was shot in the arm. The other was shot in the leg. Both are expected to survive. Police made that arrest about a block away on Market Street. Muni services were diverted off market while the investigation took place. Also Oakland Police are investigating a stabbing where three people were hurt. It happened before 10 30 last night on 19th avenue. Police say three people were rushed to the hospital. We have no word on their condition. Police say they did make one arrest in connection with the crime. Right now, its not clear what may have led up to that attack. Rescue teams successfully helped 25 pilot whales get back into the gulf of mexico. Now, the whales were stranded at a beach in naples, florida. It happened during low tide. At least two whales were stuck on a sandbar. While all of the whales eggs cape, Scientists Say the whales are sick and dont look like they are eating. If someone is sick or injured, they will continue to stay with it even if it goes into a dangerous situation in the shallows like this one did. Its unclear whats making them sick. Back in december, you may remember 40 miles away more than 50 whales got stuck in the everglades. They were stranded in Shallow Water for about a week. Seven of those whales died and four others had to be euthanized. President obama is talking about marijuana. In an interview with a new york magazine, the president said marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol. He also called smoking pot a bad habit just like smoking cigarettes. He told the magazine, he smoked marijuana when he was younger but he does not encourage it. The reck re Recreational Marijuana is still against the law. [ cheers ] close to 200 49er fans assembled last night. They erupted in applause as the team buses pulled into the Training Facility back from seattle after that frustrating 2317 loss to the rival seahawks in the nfc title game. As the players and coaches drove out of the facility, some of them waved to the crowd. Even though the 49ers couldnt make it back to the super bowl, they played tough and these fans are proud. We just want to let them know thank you for the season. It was a great season. Well be back stronger next year in santa clara. Its gonna be nice. Well be strong. Reporter fans are urging all of these players to hold their heads up high, especially Colin Kaepernick, after he admitted that he or said that he cost the 49ers the game after throwing that late interception with less than a minute to go that essentially sealed the victory for the seahawks last night. San francisco fans are amazing. Everyone is rallied, everyone is so excited for this game. Even though its loud. Were being just as loud as well. Seahawk fans are known as the 12th man. They recently got into the guinness book of World Records as the loudest fans in pro football. Ed lee issued this statement about the loss. He said San Francisco is proud of our hometown heroes. Faithful fans all over the bay area cheered our 49ers on through the hardfought game that went down to the wire. Well the seahawks will face the denver broncos. It may have been the last postseason matchup between Peyton Manning and tom brady. Broncos won. Manning and the broncos game the highest scoring team in nfl history this season. A man is in custody in san jose this morning after threatening to burn down a house. Ktvus janine de la vega has more details now on how he was captured and janine, you have video, you will see only here on channel 2. Reporter hey, dave. Yes. Police had a potentially dangerous situation on their hands. They were told that the man had gasoline containers and he had access to weapons. That prompted them to evacuate several homes and then they started negotiating with the suspect. Heres that exclusive video of the 34yearold suspect being carried from the back of the house. Now, police say they had to use a taser and a k9 to capture him. Officers were called to a home on reagan street in East San Jose because the man was there holding gasoline bottles threatening to burn down a house. When police arrived, they found the man had barricaded himself in the shed in the back of the home. He was holding a woman there against her will. Police started negotiating with him and the woman was able to escape but were told that that suspect ended up lighting the shed on fire. It did get intense, especially once the shed started to burn. K9s were used. Some force had to be used with the individual. There was also a threat of some other weapons in the shed that we were unsure of [screaming] reporter you can hear the man yelling in pain as he was loaded into the ambulance. He was taken to the hospital with minor because he was a taser was used on him. Hes being interviewed at the hospital by police. He will be arrested for arson and resisting arrest. Were told by police he also had some outstanding warrants. The fire damaged the shed, not the main home in front of it. Its unknown if the suspect lived there or if he knew the people that lived in the house, there were a couple of officers who suffered minor injuries. Were told they will be okay. Janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. Well, police want to know what caused a crash that killed a man in hayward. That happened last night on strirl parkway at about 7 30. Police say the man was driving erratically, changing lanes, possibly speeding when he went off the road and crashed into a light pole. Now, he was not wearing a seat belt. The man accused of shooting and critically injuring his wife at a nevada hospital is on suicide watch. 88yearold William Dresser was taken into custody yesterday. Hes accused of shooting his wife who was staying in a rehabilitation room at the hospital in carson city. No one else was hurt. The shooting comes nearly a month after another medical facility next to a reno hospital that led to the death of a doctor. New this morning, both the United States and the European Union announced they suspended some of the sanctions against iran. Its in response to irans move to stop producing 20 enriched uranium. That was a key part of Iran Nuclear Deal with six world powers. In exchange, some sanctions are lifted to give negotiators a chance to work on a longterm deal. Some think russia may have helped Edward Snowden leak classified intelligence. Russia gave him asylum afterwards. It leaves san joses caltrain station at 10 00 this morning. The freedom train commemorates the distance traveled on foot from selma to montgomery, alabama by dr. King and other marchers. Organizers say tickets for the freedom train have been slow in the last couple of years. This may be the trains last year. Your time is 8 34. Earlier this morning, vice President Joe Biden spoke at an event in washington, d. C. Honoring Martin Luther king junior. The Vice President focused most of his attention on new attacks on the Voting Rights act. Dr. King, if you remember, we all do, in 65 wrote from the jail in selma and said voting is the foundations stone for political action. Now, the Vice President said once the Voting Rights act was passed in 1965, he naively thought the pat matter was the matter was settled. Well, calfire has issued winter burn bans for three north bay counties. Ktvus allie rasmus joins us from petaluma with more on what this means. Reporter well, calfire says this midwinter burn ban is very care. If you take a look around us, you can see why its been called. Were in petaluma. This area is covered with dead, dry grass and brush. This burn ban went into effect at midnight. Residents in the three north bay counties are not allowed to burn piles of leave or vegetation. This ban applies only to residents. Vineyards, agricultural businesses and fires at camp grounds are still allowed with the right permits. The agency has an extra 125 firefighters onhand in the Northern Region in case a fire breaks out. I like to think were not gonna be busy. Well be running more vegetation fires that we typically would run this time of year. And i urge people to be cautious. And thats probably why we implemented this burn ban. Now, while the burn ban is new here in the north bay, its already been in effect in several other counties, san mateo, alameda, contra costa and santa cruz counties have had a burn ban in effect since the end of december. Live in petaluma, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. Firefighters in los angeles still battling that wildfire. Right now its about 78 contained. They expect full containment by wednesday. So far that fire has burned more than 1900 aircrafters in the angeles acres in the Angeles National foretest. Illegal campers started that fire. Police say three men in their 20s have been arrested in connection to that fire. A devastating loss for an oakland mother after the shooting deaths of two of her sons in less than a month. Police say 19yearold Lamar Broussard and his friend, they were driving near 100th and longfellow avenues yesterday when two gunmen pulled up and started shooting. The victims died at the scene. Just a week ago, broussard buried his brother, 13yearold weathersby iii. He was shot to death on new years eve blocks away from home. Family members are devastated. Now we have to deal with Something Like this. Its just a senseless death. Our family has never dealt with death like this. Oakland Police Believe the men killed in yesterdays shooting, they were targeted. The name of the second victim has not yet been released. Investigators are saying little about the suspects or their getaway car. Meantime, Oakland Police still want to know who created fliers posted in an oakland neighborhood that show a city councilwoman with a swastika on her forehead. The oakland tribune reports the fliers show libby shaft and reads stop shaft, stop the d. A. C. Thats a proposed Surveillance Center for the police and for firefighters. Shaft told the tribune that as someone of jewish heritage, those fliers are particularly hurtful. U. S. Lawmakers are expressing concerns about the security at the sochi limes threatening solely olympics sochi olympics targeting attacks. These two men posted a video claiming responsibility for the attacks. They also talk about their planser to the olympic games. Now plans for the olympic games. Now russian leaders are responding by increasing security. They have moved some 30,000 armed troops down to the region. That tells you that the their level of concern is great. San Francisco Police made an arrest in last nights shooting that injured two people. It happened on turk street at about 9 00 p. M. Police say one person was shot in the arm. The other shot in the leg. Both are expected to survive and police say they arrested the suspect about a block away on Market StreetMuni Services to be diverted while police investigated. Oakland police are investigating a stabbing that injured three people. That happened sometime before 10 30 last night on 19th avenue in oakland. Police say three people had to be taken to the hospital. So far, no word on their condition. Police have arrested one person in connection to the stabbing. Right now, though, its unclear what may have led up to that incident. 8 54. Rescue teams in florida successfully rescued 25 stranded pilot whales and got them back into the gulf of mexico. Those whales were stranded at a beach in naples, florida. It happened during low tide. Two of the whales were stuck on a sandbar. While all of the whales did escape, Scientists Say they are sick. It looks like they are not eating. If sick or injured, they will continue to stay with it even if it goes into a dangerous situation like the shallows like this one did. Still not clear why the whales became sick. Back in december, 30 miles away, more than 50 whales became stuck in the Everglades National park waters. They were stranded in that Shallow Water for about a week. We did live shots over that. Seven of them died. Four others had to be euthanized. Flurelated deaths in california may be close to matching the death toll for all of last year. The state confirmed 45 flurry related death 45 flurelated deaths under the age of 65. Its investigating another 50 deaths that may have been caused by the flu. Last year, there were 106 flu deaths for the whole year. Free flu shots could be the first positive of experience.
