A mix of sun and clouds with a few passing sprinkles. Well show you in just a moment and the cooling trend will continue. Well show you how much cooler you can expect to be for today coming up. And it is day four of the bay bridge closure as work will continue today for them to open it on schedule. We want to show you a live picture of the new bridge and the old bridge right there next to each other. Yeah, we should get an update right here on the new span. We are told that some of the paving and the demolition work is taking a little longer than expected, but they still remain on schedule. They have given themselves some breathing room to make sure they could get things opened by the tuesday schedule opening. They will start paving the westbound lanes of the toll plaza and they still need to prepare the eastbound lanes in the next day or so. On the west end of the new eastern span, they finished paving right near the tunnel at your islands. In the meantime they still have that demolition work that is going on the old bay bridge. We want to show you the emotional moment for a lot of people that have been on that job for years. Yesterday crews were dismantling the section of the old bay bridge, which will make way for a new bike and pedestrian path. Overnight im told that they brought in pieces to begin installing them. Crews have been doing the power working as well, at the island as well. And despite the broken bolts, of course, they will require a temporary fix to be put in place. Crews will be putting in a permanent fix for those broken bolts once they open. Of course, everything is still on track according to cal cal on 5 00 Tuesday Morning as you can expect that update again from cal tran just about an hour from now. We will bring it to you live. Traffic is moving smoothly. To find the latest, go to ktvu 2. Com and click on the bay bridge closure tab at the top of our home page. Lets turn to rosemary to see how we are kicking off this september month outside. Its going to be another nice day with a slight possibility, maybe an isolated shower as i have to say it to cover the basis. Well give you a look outdoors as you can see the midlevel cloud cover, providing us with just a gorgeous sunrise. Isnt that a beautiful one . We will continue for them to watch these clouds pull on in and out and in fact over parts of the day, i think that we will be mostly sunny and then turn mostly cloudy again and it will be that filtered sunshine that we get with the midlevel clouds. Back to Storm Tracker 2 where at the top of the hour they reported a few sprinkles in the overnight hours. Maybe youll wake up with a little damper roadway. In any case it will be very light and passing and that it should not ruin your outdoor activity. If i squeeze it in a little closer, we have partly cloudy skies around the bay, dealing with mostly sunny skies i would like to say, enjoying mostly sunny skies to be a little exact. Over the north, reporting clouds as well as a little bit of fog. If i back upgoes little bit to show you whats happening, the system is moving closer to the coast with the breeze, they really kicked in yesterday afternoon and our temperatures, they are tumbling in some areas. Anywhere from 8 to 10 degrees. So you probably felt like the cool down in the afternoon as well as the decent sea breeze as it will be back again for the afternoon through the delta once again as well. And in addition to this, the marine layer is thickening up just a little bit. So the cool air will continue for the afternoon today. Meanwhile the moisture is pulling around the ridge of high pressure, continuing to pull in today as well as tomorrow. By getting closer, you can notice them picking up a few scattered showers and the american fire, picking up the rain in the overnight hours. Thats good. However, also a little bit of the lightning is being detected over parts of the sierra, which is not so good. Well be tracking that for you as well. 61 in oakland. Right now, 58 in san rafael. 63 in san jose. Some areas, theyre experiencing temperatures slightly warmer than where we started yesterday. Some slightly cooler. But a few degrees of yesterday morning. 81 for nevada for the afternoon. 73 richmond. To the east bay, were looking at 84 walnut creek. And the eastbound shoreline, low to mid70s if youre going to see them play this afternoon, it should be a nice day for the south bay. 80 degrees san jose. And along the peninsula, 71. Mid70s for san mateo. 65 degrees for the afternoon sea breeze in San Francisco and the extended forecast tomorrow will be the coolest day, but notice its a very subtle drop as you get into the labor day on monday and by tuesday that chance for rain is on out of here and then were warming it up as we get into midweek wednesday and beyond ill have a look at your lunchtime numbers for today coming up. The demolition by this shot by the very capable videographers and photographers in the field. All Maintenance Work that they had scheduled for the weekend has been completed. The crews are wrapping up the work there and it looks great at the tunnel, at the island tunnel. All paving is completed. Yesterday they were focused on cleaning the tunnel, Pressure Washing the face and the inside. That work is wrapping up. And where that new bridge connects into the tunnel. The demolition work is substantially completed. Thats the demolition of 1,000 feet of the original westbound approach of the original east span. Theyre demolishing that section to put in the bike path connector. Tuesday at noon, the public could start using that bike and pedestrian path. Whats left to be done ahead . So again, so at the tunnel they have to complete the striping. Once they have done that, they help control the flow of to traffic. Which is preno , maam that nightly the striping, still a little time as you will need it to drive as you cannot stripe and start bringing in the vehicles for the barrier route. The demolition work is pretty much completed. We could not open up the bridge to traffic and still have the demolition taking place. Again the paving is completed on the westbound lanes, so it is pretty much at this point, striping, they need to complete the paving on the eastbound lanes and the same thing there. Striping, putting up the barrier rail. I heard people ask about the problems. We have not encountered any problems beyond the typical slowdowns that you would have for any construction project. You know, paving goes a little slower. The demolition will go a little slower than anticipated. But we have not run into any issues that you have not anticipate with a little breathing room.
