Steve, right now, traffic looks good on the san mateo bridge. You can see traffic moving well out to the peninsula with no major problems. I want to talk about eastbound highway 4 near bailey. Police have temporarily stopped traffic on eastbound highway 4 in the bailey area. Im beginning to see its kind of hard to tell on this camera. You can see the traffic is coming to a standstill eastbound 4 near bailey road and its a situation where reportedly a tow truck driver was somehow attacked and police are on the scene trying to help that out. You can see the traffic beginning to slow down. Well keep you posted. Well beginning with developing news from the south bay. Police are busy in santa clara, they are gathering evidence from an earlymorning burglary at a gun store. Ktvus janine de la vega joins us live in santa clara to tell us how the Police Tracked down the suspects. Janine . Reporter david, still a mess here at reeds indoor gun range. Its located on dwayne avenue on a frontage road right along 101. Its an Industrial Area here. You can see some of the damage here. This is the window where thieves broke into the store to try to steam some guns. The owner, jim reed, let us in the store this morning to show us all of the damage and broken glass. Police say the silent alarm system alerted them of the breakin that happened at about 3 30 this morning as officers drove up to the range, they spotted a getaway car. They followed it. And the suspects started to throw rifles out of the window. Police say the three people inside tried to run away. But officers were able to take them into custody. The storeowner says hes grateful to Police Officers and he also says hes glad that he invested in an expensive alarm system. Thats why the police were here so quickly, and why everything was apprehended is because everything is secure and having a good, you know, secure system of alarms and stuff, just to prevent this kind of thing. The police are shocked they were even able to get as far as they were able to get. Reporter Police Arrested two men and one woman. They say all of them have prior criminal records. Officers have spent the morning searching the streets to see if any guns or ammunition may have been tossed out the window, if they are still laying around. The owner believes that everything is accounted for. Were still waiting for a Police Spokesman to arrive here on the scene to give us confirmation. If theres anything that they are looking for, we know they have been in touch with the gun range owner. Hes had to give them serial numbers of some of the weapons here. So theres still concern because a little while ago we did see officers searching in the bushes just to double check to make sure they have all of their evidence. Reporting live from santa clara, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. We are getting a look at a protest that broke up a Richmond City Council Meeting and prompted a response from police. Alex savidge has the video that was released by a councilmember. Alex . Reporter and i spoke with that councilmember a short time ago this morning. I told me a lot of recent meetings here have gotten out of hand. He said the problem is getting worse. Last night, city council had to clear out chambers because of a number of noisy protesters and he says it remains unclear whats exactly prompting the demonstrations. [inaudible] reporter this is video posted online last night by Councilmember Tom butt. It shows one demonstrator screaming through a bullhorn in the middle of the meeting. There were also a number of other people who also interrupted the proceedings as well. Richmond Police Officers had to come in and clear out the Council Chambers. Some protesters were escorted out arm in arm. There was even one group that broke in the middle of the room. After the chambers were cleared out. 100 people were forced to watch it in the lobby. Now the councilmember talked to me and i asked him what he believes is behind the demonstrations. At this point, he says there doesnt seem to be a theme to the protest. In this case, i dont know. I dont know anyone knows what the point was except to show they could disrupt the city Council Meeting. Reporter still, things carried on. City residents who signed up to speak during the Public Comment period were escorted back into Council Chambers five at a time to do so. And the councilmember said because of all of the delays, last nights meeting didnt end until midnight. Despite the disruption despite the disruptions, no arrests were made. Alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. A south bay ymca daycare worker already accused of child molestation faces more charges. Ktvus robert handa first broke this story yesterday right here on mornings on 2. Last week, prosecutors charged him with assaulting a 6year old girl and possessing pornographic girl of another underaged girl. Yesterday, the suspect was back in court facing a third charge. This one involving a 5yearold girl. He took sexually explicit he photos of her. Directives were detectives were able to corroborate the evidence from the photos from his cell phone. Through Good Police Work and good Forensic Police work, we were able to recover images in this case. Reporter now, the suspect is being held without due. Hes due back in court in september to enter a plea. The ymca does require background checks when working with children. Were told he passed the fbi and department of justice background. He also passed a state test as part of the ymcas child care licensing process. A california man posing as a pilot has been ordered to face charges on monday. Now, investigators say he managed to get hired to high hospital and news helicopters hundreds of times here in Northern California. Court papers show he flew at least one time for kcrk cr were also learning new details about the arrest of a boat captain after a chase involving the coast guard in the San Francisco bay. Prosecutors say David Mccormick broadcast a fake call for help in an australian accent over the weekend saying his mate had fallen overboard near sausalito. Mccormick said any attempt to board his ship would be an act of war. Mccormick appeared in court yesterday on charges of communications of reporting false distress and assault on an officer. Mills high school today will hold a meeting about the decision about the College Board to throw out hundreds of a. P. Test scores. As we move it out there, you can see traffic is looking good. Bay bridge, thats not looking that great. Its backed up for about a 25 minute delay. This is really the peablg peak of the commute. If were lucky, we may see improvement by 8 00. Weve been looking at some of the traffic times, get a gauge of what the commute is looking like. Between 238 and mowry, 22 minutes. Ive seen it worse. Transit bus and trove it almost 1 drove it almost 100 miles to man tee ta manteca area. The names of the police who pepper sprayed those during a protest can be released. This incident was videotaped and widely viewed on the internet. The San Francisco giants are headed to the white house for the second time in three years to celebrate the teams 2012 world series win. Some Orange County sheriffs deputies are being hailed as heroes. They saved a man from a burning vehicle. He had crashed a minivan taxi into a pole. Take a look at this video. His foot was actually caught on the accelerator. He couldnt get out. The deputies pulled him just before the fire swallowed up the cab. We saw the flames going up. The guy was so fortunate with the timing. He probably would have burned in the car. The driver may have gone into diabetic shock which may have caused that crash. This video of a rescue in the oakland estuary. Three sisters became stuck in the mud while riding on a jet ski yesterday. They were very relieved to see the rescue crew arrive to help them. People who live nearby say the neighborhood was gone downhill since that internet cafe moved under a sign reading the hills. If you are driving on the nimitz freeway, between 238 and the fremont area, so between 238 and mowry avenue, its about 23 minutes, not too bad considering what time of the morning it is. At the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 200 to 25minute delay. Its backed up to 20 to 25 minute delay. Its backed up to the macarthur maze. And the metering lights are on. Lets go to steve. Org welcome back to mornings on 2. Oaklands police chief admits his department did too little too late responding to the recent protests and does not plan to make the same mistake this weekend. Tara moriarty joins us from oakland with more on what the department is planning to do. Tara . Reporter were hearing that an extra 150 officers could be out on the streets come this weekend. Thats because all regular time off has been canceled for friday and saturday. The police chief said he wanted to do this in order to prevent protests like the last time around. Violence gripped the streets of oakland in the wake of the zimmerman verdict earlier this month. Last night, the Oakland City Council demanded to know why the chief didnt see it coming. Chief sean whent chalked it up to intelligence failure and said police expected a big protest and they had put plans into place for that but they didnt anticipate the violence on saturday. Then on monday, officers seemed blindsided when demonstrators blocked traffic. Violence erupted downtown when a protester with a hammer attacked a waiter. We know that officers are ramping up efforts to monitor social media better. As you know, the force is severely severely understaffed. It will cost tens of thousands of dollars to beef up staffing. The police chief wants to be prepared. The Police Officers association canceled their annual picnic so the officers can be available in case violence turns up again. Some Young Oakland kids are victims of the violence. One of the buildings at the schools were vandalized. Now the small children can attend classes across town or stay home. Parents say they understand protesting but not violence. Crews are cleaning up. A peeping tom is on the loose. Brian flores has more. Reporter were expected to hear back from the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office with more information. They did issue out a press release earlier this week describing at least one peeping tom incident. It happened on laurel street here in san carlos. Weve also learned of a second incident that happened around the same time. Again this peeping tom responsible for at least two incidents in the past week. Both incidents happened at residential locations, one again off the 300 block off laurel street. The second incident happened in north san carlos. Officials say a woman reported the peeping tom as they were in the shower. At the laurel street incident, a woman saw a pair of hands appear outside of the back window as if someone was trying to look inside. When deputies got to the home, they found the screen along the outside of the window had been removed and set aside. Sheriffs Officials Say both incidents happened between 9 00 and 11 00 at night. They comb the area. Theres no description. So the sheriffs are telling you to be aware of your surroundings and consider lighting around your area and to call them if theres any spish shs activity. Brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. The Alameda County department issued a warning about rabid bats after one bit a girl at the zoo on saturday. Shes expected to make a full recovery. The county is printing up fliers about this. The warning goes far beyond the oakland zoo area. This was the third rabid bat diskooferred in Alameda County in discovered in Alameda County in the past month. We checked to see how many cases have been reported. Marin and Santa Clara County had the most, four cases apiece. Sonoma county had three. San francisco and contra costa county, one each. Now, these numbers were kol piled by the state in the middle of june. Alameda had zero at the time. As we just told you, theyve now seen three cases. One man is dead. Another is in the hospital, after a shooting in oakland. Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 8 oth avenue and alder street before 7 30 last night. Both victims were taken to the hospital where one of them died a half an hour later. No arrests have been made in this case. An antioch man charged with murder pat a San Francisco Jewelry Store at a San Francisco Jewelry Store is scheduled to face a judge. White is scheduled to be arraigned on 16 felony counts, including murder, attempted murder, assault on a police officer, and possessing an assault rifle. Prosecutors say white killed two female employees inside the jewelry mart on brannen street and critically wounded the shop owner. The dumbarton bridge is looking okay. But the area nearby is a little bit slower. It keeps getting slower from 238 to mowry avenue. That time is up to 26 minutes in the area. Those numbers just came in. Sales jumped 8. 3 in june compared to the same time last year. That puts new home sales on pace for 497,000 for the year. But the National Average price fell 5 to 250,000. General motors stock would have to sell for nearly 96 a share for tax payers to break even on that 2009 gm bailout right now. The stock is only about 36 a share. The government watchdog says theres no doubt in her mind that tax payers will lose mine on the 49 billion bailout. 7 44. Safety regulators are now investigating the collapse of the landing gear on that Southwest Airlines jet at La Guardia Airport monday night. Want to show you video that a passenger took while the plane was landing. Passengers say there was no warning that there was going to be a problem. Now, the plane has been towed to a hangar at la guardia where investigators can look the plane over more closely. The boxes are being analyzed and the pilots will be interviewed in the next few days. The owner said he theyve recovered at least seven weapons from inside reeds indoor gun range. They have a lot to clean up. You can see all of the shattered glass here where thieves it appears that thieves threw in the block of wood that you see there to the right. But thieves didnt get very far. The owner, jim reed, let us into his store to show us all of the damage and the broken glass. Police say the silent alarm system alerted them of a break in at about 34 30 3 30 a. M. As drivers drove up to the range on dwayne avenue, they spotted a getaway car. They followed it and the suspects inside started throwing guns out of thed with. The car was stopped at la fayette and aldo. Police say the three people inside tried to run away but officers were unable to take them into custody. The owner says its troubling that the thieves were after guns. Of course, its frustrating. Im upset. Its like violating your own personal residence as far as im concerned. Its a big mess to clean up. The biggest thing for me is everything was apprehended. All of the suspects were apprehended and the merchandise was all found and recovered. Reporter Police Arrested two men and one woman. They tell us that all of them have prior criminal records. Officers spent the morning searching the streets to look for guns that may have been tossed out of the suspects car window. Now, the owner told us it was five handguns and two rifles that were taken and that were recovered. Its unknown if anything else was stolen. Right now, were trying to get confirmation from police. Weve been waiting to hear from them for hours. Were told a spokesperson is en route. But were still waiting to get more information from the police, maybe a background on who the criminals were. New this morning, police in richmond were needed last night to control a loud protest at a city Council Meeting. Reporter i did speak with him and this councilmember says he doesnt understand whats behind the protests but he believes this is one group in particular intent on causing problems here at the Richmond City Council Meetings. There have been a number of issues recently, meetings that have got on out of land. Last night, city leaders were forced to clear out Council Chambers entirely because of a group of noisy protesters. Those making the rules are not abiding by them. Reporter counsel memorial tom butt posted this video online that shows one demonstrator who had a bullhorn. He was one of several who interrupted the meeting last night. Richmond Police Officers came in and they actually cleared out the Council Chambers entirely. Some protesters had to be escorted out. One group broke into song. After the room was cleared more than a hundred people had to watch the meeting on a Television Set out in the lobby. City leaders, though, say this move was allowed under californias open meetings law give fn the repeated disruptions. Last night was an organize the disruption that involved dozens of people. Essentially it was so bad that the Council Chamber had to be cleared out. Reporter City Residents who signed up to speak during the Public Comment period were allowed to go back into the chambers. They were escorted back in, though, five at a time by police. Council memorial butt told me the councilmember butt told me the delays meant the meeting didnt get finished until midnight. Robert handa first broke the story about the ymca worker facing charges. Last month prosecutors charged nicholas lhermine with assaulting a 6yearold girl and possessing foreign graphic girls of another underaged girl. Yesterday, the 20yearold suspect was back in court to face a third charge. This one involving a 5yearold girl. He took sexually explicit photographs of her. Detectives were able to corroborate this evidence by retrieving those unmistakable images from his cell phone. Now, lhermine is being held out bail. Hes due back in court on september 17th to enter pleas. More details now on the disturbing case. The ymca says it does require background checks for employees working with children and were told that lhermine passed reviews done by both the department of justice and the fbi when he was hired. He also passed a state test that is part of the ymcas child care licensing process and the ymca points out that lhermine went through more than 30 hours of child abuse prevention training. The california man accused of posing as a helicopter pilot now will face federal charges in sacramento. John michael dial was arrested on monday in upstate new york. He also went by the name thomas cooney. Now, investigators say he managed to get hired to fly helicopters for hospitals and news organize organizations hundreds of times in Northern California. Court pap Court Papers Show he flew for a sacramento station one time last year. Were getting new information about david  mccormick. They say he broadcast a fake call for help in an australian accent over the weekend, saying his mate had fallen overboard near sausalito. Mccormick said any attempt to board his ship would be an act of war. Now, mccormick appeared in court yesterday on charges of communicating false distress and also assault on an officer. Tonight Mills High School in millbrae will hold a Community Meeting about the decision by the College Board to throw out hundreds of test scores. The College Board is making some students take the test all over again because student seating rethslations were not regulations were not filed. School district officials are encouraging suing the College Board. They say no cheating has been reported. Some people compare it to the shooting of trayvon martin. 23yearold shanika mcdone and shot and killed a man who approached her at a geaing, made at a gas station, made sexual advances and lunged at her. Mcdonald left the gas station because she feared for her life and said her mother later called 911. By the way, she says she keeps a rifle in the trunk of her car for selfdefense. Violence gripped the streets of oakland in the wake of the zimmerman verdict earlier this month. Last night, the Oakland City Council demarnded to know why the chief didnt see it coming. The San Mateo County sheriffs say they are stepping up patrol in the wake of two incidents that have happened recently. This suspect is responsible for two incidents that have happened in the past week. Both incidents at both interaccidents happened at the 100 block of laurel and the other one, at the 300 block of laurel. Both said somebody tried to look through the window while they were in the shower. A woman saw a pair of hands appear on the outside of the bath window. When cutes got to the home, they found when ktvus got to the home, they say when deputies got to the window, they saw someone was there. Were asking you to keep your blinds shut at night, your shades drawn. Reporter they have combed the area throughout the week to search for the suspect but nobody was found. This morning theres no suspect description as well which is why they are asking for the publics help. The Alameda County Health Department has issued a public warning about rabid bats. That warning came after a bat bit a teenaged volunteer at the zoo on saturday. The county is printing up fliers alerting those living near the zoo to be on alert for other rabid animals. But the warning goes far beyond the zoo area. This was the first rabid bat in Alameda County in the past month. We checked to see how many cases have been reported in the bay area this year. The numbers are broken down by county. Marin and santa clara had the most at four cases apiece. Sonoma county, three, San Francisco and contra costa one each. These numbers were compiled by the state in midjune. Alameda had zero. But as weve heard, three cases are now reported. Last night in oakland, a man was killed, another one is not hospital in a shooting. Barry Bernard White is expected to be arraigned on 16 felony counts, including murder, attempted murder, assault on a police officer, and possessing an assault rifle. Prosecutors say white killed two female employees inside the jewelry mart on brannen street earlier this month and critically wounded the owner of the shop. Police in santa clara arrested three people early today accusing them of robbing a gun store and then throwing the stolen guns out of a car window as the Police Chased them. The owner thinks they used this wood block on the ground to smash the front window so they could get into the store. You can see some of the damage there. Officers spotted the suspicious car. They followed it. The suspects threw guns out the window. Officers caught up with the car on la fayette and aldo. Police say the suspects tried to run ay from them. Some inmates in the east bay will soon pay to stay in the fremont jail. Those convicted of misdemeanors in Alameda County can serve time on weeknights close to home and can avoid the rougher jails in oakland and dublin. The catch, they would have to pay a 155 daily fee. Those behind the program say it would provide some badlyneeded money for the city of fremont. Protesters are gathering in Mountain View for a march to google headquarters. Environmentalists are angry that google hosted a fund raiser for an oklahoma senator earlier this month. He calls Global Warming a hoex. Demonstrators say snorting him violates googles unofficial motto of do no evil. The demonstrators are marching from garcia to google headquarters. In a few minutes they will gather outside of the googleplex where they will hand out fliers and protest. In about an hour, they plan to deliver a petition signed by more than 50,000 people asking google to stop supporting him. A group of africanamerican sailors from North Carolina fighting to compete in the americas cup race. A Court Hearing is set for today.
