Yesterday, two of the four crew members on board the plane were interviewed. Really, the goal is to understand why the pilots in this case didnt react sooner as this boeing triple 7 came in much to slow for a safe landing. The pilot at the controls is still working on his certification for the boeing 777. I asked the head of the ntsb how difficult it would be for this pilot to make the transition and learn the ins and outs of this particular type of aircraft. We know hes flown aircraft in the boeing family before and so he had flown 747, but what we will be looking at is that Transition Training for him to now get a type rating on the 777. Still ahead, were waiting to hear the very latest from the ntsb about saturdays crash landing at sfo. We told you earlier on mornings on 2 that they are still interviewing the pilot. Alex savidge has more and you spoke to the investigator as well . Reporter yes. They are going to get the pilots story about what exactly went wrong. Yesterday, two of the four crew members were interviewed by the ntsb. Essentially investigators are putting together a firsthand nare raw tiff of what exactly was going on in the cockpit, how the crew was communicating as this boeing 777 came into sfo going much too slow for a safe landing. The triple 7 was going 40 miles an hour below its target speed for landing. The first time the crew realized they needed more speed was 7 seconds before the crash. At that point it was too late. This was a training flight for the pilot at the controls. Hes still working on his certification for that type of aircraft. The pilots system was turned off about a minute and a half before the impact. The aircraft has the auto throttle system. If that system is engaged, it would automatically maintain a safe air speed during landing. Its normal for them to turn the auto pilot off as they are coming into land. And the auto thrust system would that be problematic if that was turned off . Right now we have to determine if it was on or off . It could work safely both ways. Ntsb investigators are working with their counterparts from korea. An stent investigation seem is an Accident Investigation Team in the area. Again, the crew members expect to do that today. Translators are involved in the interviews. The pilot of the controls has been identified as lee jeong min. He only fogged about 43 hours at the controls of a boeing 777 when the crash happened on saturday. Investigators want to figure out exactly how familiar he and the other crew members are with the systems on board that particular aircraft. This morning, a team of investigators with the ntsb will continue to document the wreckage here at sfo. One key thing theyve learned, it appears all of the engines on board that boeing 777 were working properly at the same tist crash. The ntsb will wrap up the interviews later today and then update their investigation. They will hold a briefing later on this afternoon. Live this morning near sfo, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. As you heard alex say, the ntsb is focusing on the pilots lack of experience with the boeing 777s and if that played a role in the crash. Investigators say flight 214 was flying significantly below the target speed just before the plane slammed into the runway. Some arriving flights are being delayed, that would delay the departures of the planes for the next flight. The delays are related to both the shut june of a runway and this mornings dense fog. We could also see more Flight Cancellations today. At least 100 flights were canceled yesterday. Also yesterday additional flights were diverted to other airports, Oakland International reports received as many as 15 flights for sfo. Mineta san jose reports four planes bound for sfo were sent to san jose. That number is down from 21.
