The suspicious death of a baby is under investigation. Ktvus alex savidge is at San FransiscoGeneral Hospital now to tell us the mystery surrounding this tragedy. Good morning alex. Good morning dave. San fransisco police say early this morning, a woman brought her baby here to San FransiscoGeneral Hospital to get help for that child. Its unclear exactly what was wrong, but this baby was later pronounced dead here at the hospital, and now San Fransisco police are investigating this as a suspicious death, they say. The child arrived here at the hospital just about 12 30 this morning, and shortly after that the medical examiner was called out here to the scene to investigate and deem this death suspicious. Police are only saying this is a 7monthold baby. We dont know if it was a boy or a girl, and of course because it is early on we dont know at this point the cause of death. We did see this morning several San FransiscoPolice Detectives who were focused on a white car parked outside the emergency room. Right now detectives are interviewing the babys mother and talking with other family members and, again, this investigation we are told is in its very early stages. Ktvus janine de la vega is in san jose where police say a driver fell asleep at the wheel. Reporter yes, thats what Police Officers told us. You can see the pickup truck. Its for drain reutter service. Were told the son of the owner of that company apparently hit this apartment complex building and thats right where pg e gas meters are. Weve just learned from pg e that there is no gas leak. There was fear of that happening. Lets go to some video that we took earlier. Police officers tell us about an hour ago or so that the driver of the pickup truck was apparently driving in the northbound lanes. He told officers that he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and that caused him to slam into three parked cars and then crashed into this building. Now there is no interior damage. Theres no hole into the building. You can just see a big dent in there. Heres what one of the drivers of the parked cars who got hit had to say. It smoked something a little earlier, and then fell asleep, so he said he was real tired. I dont know. Im sick of my cars getting hit ill tell you that, and the police say its just a problem. The owner of the parked car that did receive damage says that theres been Numerous Accidents on Camden Avenue, but again, in this case, the Police Officers are telling us that the driver did fall asleep at the wheel. Now back out here live, you can see here on Camden Avenue, this is in the came brie yan neighborhood. Theres still a lot of shattered glass and debris and some car parts on the road. It also looks like it took down a pole as well as the other speed limit sign there that says 25 miles an hour. That pole is bent as well. The manager of the apartment complex is also out here assessing damage. Firefighters in Santa Cruz County are still in app pos investigating a destructive fire. It was reported at 1 00 this morning on redwood drive. No reports of injuries but the fire force the evacuation of the neighborhood. So far no word on what caused that fire. Firefighters also working to gain control of the grass fire in fellton. That started at 3 45 this morning. The fire had burned up to 2 acres of grass. Its burning near some buildings and were going to bring you more on this fire as soon as we get more information. Unions announced they would not issue a 72hour strike notice for friday morning. Both sides vowed theyre going to negotiate right up until the strike deadline. Affordable housing advocates fighting plans for a mass eviction in San Fransisco. The San Fransisco examiner says as many as 300 people on Market Street are facing eviction because their units violate city codes. The city says those units are illegal because the buildings are only zoned for commercial use. Many of the units also dont have windows. If those tenants are forced to move out it would be one of the biggest evictions in San Fransisco since the 1970s. The senate has a new plan to deal with one of those problems. Kyla campbell joining us live from washington to tell us what the senate wants to do and why the house may not go along. Reporter dave the senate plans to introduce a bill today to raise the debt ceiling. It would includes the governments Borrowing Limit by 1 trillion giving it enough credit until next years congressional elections. It could take one week for the senate to pass the bill giving the house just a day or two to act on it. House Speaker John Boehner says theres not enough support to raise the debt ceiling without concessions from the white house. If republicans and Speaker Boehner are saying theres not enough votes they could prove it. Its not good optics for the president to go around and have a pep rally someplace and beat up on republicans. We are following developing news from San Fransisco this morning, Police Investigating the suspicious death of a 7 monthold baby. Alex savidge joins us from San FransiscoGeneral Hospital with the many questions surrounding this tragedy. Alex. Good morning. And police say this woman showed up here at San Fransiscos General Hospital this morning with her 7 month old baby. Its unclear exactly what was wrong. That baby was later pronounced dead here at the hospital, and San Fransisco police are now calling this a suspicious death investigation. Just a little while ago we watched as a car related to this case was towed from the hospital parking lot with a squad car following blind. This child behind. This child arrived at the hospital around 12 30 this morning and a short time later the medical examiner was called out. Its a 7monthold baby. We dont know if its a boy or a girl, and the cause of death remains unclear. We did see several detectives at the emergency room this morning gathering evidence. In the meantime Police Officers have secured a house on monterey boulevard off 280 in San Fransisco. Crime scene tape was put up across the front entrance. We understand homicide detectives are interviewing the babys mother, and other family members trying to figure out how the child died. Also new this morning, people sleeping at a south bay apartment complex got a rude awakening after a truck slammed into their building. The driver was reportedly asleep at the wheel. Janine de la vega is in san jose to show us the damage. Talk about what happened. Reporter the truck was just towed away. It was resting along side this apartment building. What you see is this big dent on the corner of the building here at Camden Avenue and donna in the came brie yan area of san jose. This happened near gas meters. Emergency crews initially thought there was a rupture. Police tell us about 3 40 this morning the driver of a pickup truck was traveling northbound when he crashed into three parked cars and hit the side of the apartment complex. Nobody was injured inside the apartment but the owners of the parked cars werent happy to find the damage. The driver of the truck who caused the damage told them that he fell asleep at the wheel. He was not arrested. People who live in the complex describe all the commotion after they heard the crash. The corner of the bathroom damaged, yeah, and Fire Department they do inspection they smell gas leak and they say, okay, just pull my kid out. Reporter pg e crews came out to inspect the gas line and determined there was no leak in the building. Back out here live you can see there is still some debris and shattered glass and damage. You can see this pole, im not sure what was on the top of it, but you know, the truck definitely came around this corner and ended up denting it and putting it down. Theres still some cleanup to be done here as well as inside one of the residents said a lot of things got knocked off his wall inside. The good news is is that nobody was injured in this accident. Happening now a group of Homeless People and their advocates are camped out in albany after being told theyre about to be evicted from a waterfront park. A couple dozens people set up an overnight camp. Theyre fighting the decision by the city to start enforcing no camping laws later this month at a park known as the albany bub. If they want to kick out their Homeless People from where theyve told their Homeless People they could live for years they should have somewhere else to put their Homeless People instead of sidewalks or other towns. This is an ongoing situation that were trying to find caring and Compassionate Solutions for. City Officials Say theyre working to relocate the homeless through a partnership with the Nonprofit Group berkeley food and housing project. In San Fransisco a controversial plan to close city parks during certain hours is a step closer to happening. Yesterday a board of Supervisors Committee approved a plan. Now it moves to the full board for a vote later this month. If its approved all San Fransisco city parks would be closed between the hours of midnight and 5 a. M. Supporters say it will keep the Homeless People from living in the parks and also reduce crime. But critics say it criminalizes the homeless. A man in walnut creek is going to be tried on animal cruelty charges for the killing of his familys 10monthold German Shepherd dog last year. 37yearold todd powers says he stabbed the dog because it had been nipping at his children and also killed some backyard chickens. The deputy da argued that because the dog had suffered pain, powers should face felony charges. But yesterday that charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. Later today San Carlos City leaders will go before the California PublicUtilities CommissionUtilities Commission. The mayor and others will express concerns over a natural gas pipeline that runs across the city. Friday they declared a state of emergency and got a court order ordering pg e to shut down the pipeline and if thats what they did, thats great, but i think the community and the city, Everybody Needs more information than just saying, oh, we relieved the pressure and thats fine. You know, its tough to live with that. Reporter today the city will insist that the pipeline remain shut down until pg e can guarantee no one is in danger. San carlos sought the court order after receiving a copy of an internal pg e email. An engineer expressed concern that the pipeline could cause an explosion. There is a clear connection between the pipeline that exploded in san bruno and the pipeline in san carlos. The San Fransisco chronicle uncovered pg e documents. They show in both the peninsula cities, pg e relied on used pipe when making repairs in the 1950s. The company resorted your time now 5 38. The Agriculture Department says raw chicken processed at three foster farms plants in Central California is the likely source of a salmonella outbreak. 278 illnesses have been reported since last march. The outbreak has spread now to 18 states but most of them are in california. The foster farms says its products are safe to eat if you handle it properly and fully cook them. Those people at higher risk, the elderly, kids or people who have compromised immunes those people can get sick. The affected packages of chicken contain the marks p6137, p6137a, and p7632. The foster farms released a statement that said in part we take food safety very seriously. When the incidence of the illnesses linked to salmonella increased we wanted to know why and we worked quickly to identify and were implement additional controls the oakland as will battle against the tigers in game 4 of the American League division series. They also seized 2001s and 825,000 in cash. 22yearold jose jimenez almost was not home when deputies served the search warrant last friday. He was wanted on multiple drug charges. A Hayward Police officer accused of extortion is scheduled to go before a judge. Romeo aberin tried to turn a female forgery suspect into an informant and demanded cash from her in exchange for not arresting her. Sheshes a 6 year veteran of the Hayward Police department. He resigned yesterday after turning himself in at the Hayward Police station. A laptop computer containing personal and medical information on thousands of uc San Fransisco parents was stole patients was stole on out of a workers locked car. The hospital was notifying those patients whose names, birth dates and Social Security numbers are included in the stolen information. Theres no sign anyone has tried to cruise that info. Uc San Fransisco could be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for this latest security breach. Happening today, if you drive through the caldecott tunnel you will notice a change. Caltrans will turn on new traffic lights at about 10 30 this morning in the third bore. They will stay green for the next ten days while crews test ten new inner tunnel traffic signals. Its an added safety feature that will go into Service Later this year. When fully activated the lights will be able to turn yellow or red in response to accidents, stalls or other traffic delays. Now this is reported as an overturned truck here and traffic is going to be affected by this crash. So please give yourself extra time as you drive out of the caldecott tunnel on to the oakland side. Clear until that system begins to take dead aim towards the Sierra Nevada.
