up the night sky and this has shut down bart service between the east bay and san francisco. now we have live team coverage for you and sal of course has all the details about the traffic nightmare. a reporter, kara lou is here at the scene, so what do you know, kara? >> reporter: well firefighters are still working and i want to show you what they are working on and i will show you what is left of the pudding. we are seeing a lot of smoke and firefighters are spraying water from the hoes trying to get this thing under control but firefighters have had their hands full all morning. this fire broke out when we got here and a short time after we heard explosions and spot fires and embers being carried by the wind. this was a three-alarm fire and it was senior apartments under construction in oakland. the project's superintendent tells me they were in the framing stages of this 120 unit project and he says this has been devastating and surreal watching it go up in flames. and again, no service between west oakland bart station and in san francisco. workers are telling me they don't know how long the service will be shut down but it will be at least the next couple of hours. dispatchers are alerting residents and they will need to find another way to get across the bay this morning. again if you can take a lookout here live -- a look out here live, we want to let everybody know there are alternate routes they will want to know about. let's check in with some of those alternate routes. good morning. >> it is obviously going to be tough. a lot of people will be taking the car and there are ways to carpool and you can go to the 19th street station and take buses that the ac transit has into san francisco. this is normal service every day and you can get on those buses getting into san francisco getting to the trans bay terminal. obviously a lot of people will just resort to the cars that will be much whatting. the toll plaza and the causeway is approaching to make sure and let you know what happens. these are live pictures where bart workers are up here on the tracks looking at the damage and we will get an update from bart as soon as we online, any new information about the fire and plus how ac transit is helping commuters, it is all on our website. san francisco police is busy. they are searching for suspects in two overnight shootings. one person was killed, three others were hurt. now the first shooting happened at 10:30 near elmira street. one person was killed, another one was critically wounded. a third victim is expected to survive. a second shooting happened just a short time later on cameron. cameron way at candle stick park. we don't know how badly he has been injured. still not clear if those two shootings are connected. san jose police are investigating a stabbing. officers were called to mall lard court after getting reports of a fight. they found a 30-year-old man who had been stabbed. he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. time now 6:05, and the pitches he made were perfect. >> got him from deep third. >> matt cain threw the first perfect game, there is his wife cheering. his teammates just mobbed him. it was 10-0 at at&t park. matt cain struck out a career high 14 batters and only the 1st game in -- 13th game in major league history. >> i want to have more told that it will be hours before bart is able to fix the tracks damaged by that overnight fire, there is a people that allows trains to run and it is melted we less want to cover that part of the dousing it with water. now this video taken by one of the first units to respond to the scene, right near the west oakland bart station, the fire was spread out over two blocks and raged for a good half hour before they were able to get a handle on it. because it was open flames, flames tore right through this. 60 firefighters had to help. that is dozen trucks. >> i would say, easterly 100 feet and they were too close and they had to back away so it was a very hot fire from the get go. >> nobody was hurt in the fire and that's the good news. flames torched all five floors. arson investigators on scene and they still can't go in there because it is not safe. pg&e is shutting off a major gas line trying to pinch that up. again, there will be no trains running in san francisco for hours. they say you should use the ferry this morning if you need to get around or i will drive you as well. live in oakland tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 morning news. let's talk about the domino affect of all of this. >> well, people have obviously howard about this a lot of people from the east bay rely on the city and a lot of people will be going to the 19th street station to catch a transit bus across the bay, and remember the east bay stations are all connected so you could take a train from bay point that sore of thing but the trains from the east bay are not connecting and if you are going to the east bay, i want to show you metering lights came on early, more people are in their bridge, really they realize there is no bart service so they jump in and take it there. this could be mean not a lot of traffic from vallejo to rich mop. it looks like temperatures will be really close. the big news, forecast models are all in sink for friday. after tomorrow it will be cool by the coast, but then a strong low develops to the south and that equals an offshore breeze and that means temperatures are heading up. near 100 inland, high fire danger and it looks like nearly one, one and a half maybe two, saturday and sunday next week looks cool. low-to-mid, and temperatures a lot of running cooler and it will give us an offshore winds, temperatures to near 90 degrees by the coast 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s. fog for some and warm conditions unless you are over by the water's edge. 60s and 70s, a few low 90s. we will go 90s in antioch. berkeley alameda 66, 88 gilroy, 79 los gatos, cupertino and then all over the map here. upper 50s and 60s on parts of the coast towards south san francisco. the news will be the warm temperatures and hot and windy on saturday and fire in new mexico. it is 40% contained. now lightning started this fire on monday. a larger wildfire in new mexico covered 300,000 acres. that one has been burning for a month. president barack obama parents and former students told stories of abuse during a school board meeting. one told about somebody verbally abusing her daughter. others told of a story where they were supposed to stay late for bible study but were taken to panhandle. he said he could not respond to every charge but he would cooperate with the district investigation. a mother is thanking them search for her daughter's killer. the lead singer of metallic is urging people to come forward in the morgan case. somebody murdered her in 2009. her mother said the campaign will help get a better chance of finding her saturday, all signs point to a strong northeast wind which is offshore and that means really hot inland, 100 degrees by the coast. it looks like high fire danger will be with us for two days. earlier. two workers were using the crane to replace banners when the crane tipped over. those workers escaped the crash with just minor injuries. the coast guard played a major role. the local command center picked up an emergency beacon a few miles west. they apparently collided with a whale and started sinking with a 66-year-old man on board. they rerouted a nearby merchant ship and that ship was able to rescue that stranded boater. we are just about a half hour away when big names will be out there at the olympic club for the first round. we are live in oakland where a massive fire damages the bart tracks and we will let you know what your options are if you need to get from san francisco to oakland this morning. . good morning i am pam cook, time now is 6:30. we want to update you on that massive fire forcing thousands of riders to find another way. take a look at how big it was overnight. tara moriarty reports on how the fire started and here is what we are experiencing for the morning commute. investigators are actually asking the public if they saw anybody in this area around 2:00 a.m. to please give them or the police department a call. the fire or police investigators. now if you are a computer and you need to use bart, you are out of luck. you can see where there is damage to an insulator which gives power and it is melted. it was once a building where crews are still working those hot spots. >> reporter: this is exclusive video taken by the first unit to respond to the scene here on mandela parkway which is right by the oakland bart station. flames shot up to 150 feet into the air and went on for about an hour before crews were able to get a handle on it. they say it is possible arson. >> when we got here, the fire was very advanced and it gives us concern for what could have caused that to happen. this building is stick frame which means there is no fire protection yet and they do burn very quickly. it seems it is possible but certainly that will be part of the investigation. >> nobody was hurt in the fire, that is the good news. it did start in a senior center and the flames also burned nearby cars and street signs. 62 firefighters had to battle this fire. they are investigating but they can't go in because it is not safe. they are having to dig into the ground to pinch off the gas line and there will be no trains running between san francisco and oakland and bart says it's scrambling to try to get a bus shuttle in place but because they don't own buses, they are recommending you take ac transit or a ferry to go where you need to this morning. right now we will get an update with sal castaneda to get an update on what sort of all the nate -- alternate routes to get there. >> people are waking up and finding out they need to be in the city but i want to show you the hume back up we have getting on to the bay bridge as news chopper 2 shows us, that is stretched well before where the backup begins. this is one of those things where you will be driving even if you are not going to the bay bridge it will affect your drive. as news chopper 2 pushes in for us, there is the bay bridge, one of the biggest backups we have seen in weeks. sometimes we see it when there is a crash on the bridge when lanes are blocked but this is good old-fashioned heavy traffic. few people have options. we do have the ferries from the harbor bay terminal and at 6:30 you missed that one but there is another ferry and we will update the ferry schedules as well. there is a ferry from 8:30 a.m. and rice in -- arrives in san francisco and 830 buses are running from the mcarthur maze station in downtown oakland and the word is, there are long lines of people trying to get on buses. some people don't have the option, they have to get into the car and tough it out and that's what we'll see all morning long with no bart service. we will show you, it has nothing to do with the traffic report, let's toss it back and forth to dave and pam. this happened 11:00 outside the lockwood garden housing complex. two people were standing in front of the apartments when somebody started shooting at them. both victims were wounded but the injuries are not life- threatening. so far no arrests have been made. george cass cone -- george gas cone will formally charge the bicyclist who hit him. he is facing a charge of felony vehicular man slaughter for running over and killing a 71- year-old man in the castro district in march. prosecutors have concluded he was grossly negligent in that accident. >> i think they will look at bicyclist behavior very seriously because they don't want to be hurt or killed by a bicyclist. >> it ignited an uproar after the deadly accident and he reportedly had a comment on line. it was crowded and he plowed through the least crowded spot he could find. he is now spented to surrender to authorities -- now expected to surrender to authorities over the next few days. it is a park that is known for crime. the problemmed area is where a lot of homeless people hang out. the chief said he received several come -- complaints from neighbors and businesses so he is stepping the job. they are pro post testing proposed cuts to sick days an increased healthcare costs. they hired nurses for a five- day contract and that means the striking nurses are locked out until monday. the gates are open for the first round of the olympic club, there is tiger woods. tiger woods phil mickelson, bubba watson, they tee off at 7:33. the u.s. open is expected to attract 7,000 spectators and that could add to the traffic nightmare around the olympic club. >> it is certainly putting a wrench in things with the bart situation. it is already causing crowded areas over there. let's check in with sal for everything we need to know. incase you are just waking up and putting on the television, there is no service from the east bay to the peninsular for bart. look at this building, showing us the building that burned down next to the bart tracks in west oakland. some of the rails here, it is having a huge affect. nearby, you can see 880 getting up to the bay bridge toll plaza is sold out, 580 is slow and it is almost as if there has been a very serious crash and there are a lot of people sitting around waiting. so give yourself plenty of extra time. there have been reports that the san francisco ferry will be adding extra boats and we have not confirmed that yet. so far the next ferry leaving harbor bay terminal in alameda is at 7:30. they will arrive just before 8:00 and that's one option for you. let's move along and look at the freeway on highway 4. remember, bart is running in the east bay between all the stations and it is just not running across the bay. you can take bart from mill bray to san francisco stations and we just saw highway 4 in antioch and bay point. i want to show you westbound a little bit of slow development heading west down to the mcarthur maze. 6:40 let's go to steve. >> say it again, somebody said something in my ear. there is a boat out there, yes i can see that. there is not much of a breeze but temperatures will start to warm up, fog coverage is less than what we had yesterday, there is still some but not as much coverage. it is already mostly 7:00 sunny, yesterday was cloudy and some patchy fog, we will be wiped out. especially on saturday, all signs point to a rapid warmup, high fire danger, temperatures even on the coast, maybe near the 80s, dale miller over at valley vista were yelling at me. 113 steve? no, not just spoke to a witness, kara? >> reporter: we are out here -- were out here shortly after this began, there were flames shooting up in the air and i want to show you there is still quite a bit of smoke and still flames going and this is more than 4.5 hours after the flames began. this you a few hours back tackleel it before they arrived. again you could hear explosions going off and all the residents living in this area could hear them. they were carrying embers blocks away and they were dealing with spot fires that popped up because of this. now burning was a senior apartment complex story is the freeways getting to the bay bridge because a lot of people are taking their cars. there is no service from east bay to san francisco and a lot of people have jumped in their cars. i want to show viewers here the big backups approaching the bay bridge. this is 880, and this is basically from 7th street, look at this backup and it is equally bad on 580 and on 80 getting out to the toll plaza and when you get to the toll plaza, it is very slow. this morning, just know you will have to be in a lot of slow traffic. we have been checking with the ferry services and they are running as normal trying to get a schedule up there for you but a lot of people are resorting to ferries or taking ac transit and there is a huge line for the trans bay buses at the mcarthur maze station and trans bay station. ac is running buses into the city. let's move along and take a look at san francisco, this traffic looks good getting up to the split. and on highway 29 right here a pretty bad intersection, some -- intersection, some traffic is getting by but there is a crash with injuries in vallejo. well, we have sunshine and in fact there is less coverage than we had yesterday. temperatures near 90s by the coast, it pulls off santa cruz and yesterday was solid. around the bay fog burns off sunny and warm. high pressure is on its day and tomorrow we will start off with patchy fog and it should really pick up saturday morning and that means temperatures go up, the way up fog disappears and yes temperatures will be hot across the poured. monday fog will be back so a two day warm up, low to mid-and i was cloudy and the temperatures have spread far enough inland and some low 90s. then you have some, afternoon sun on the coast, 60s and 70s and 80s especially out towards antioch and present wood. kill roy, 60s and 70s. fog patchy on friday and then it is out of here hot and windy and then much cooler wednesday and thursday. some members of the coalition including venezuela and iran want to push prices higher. they are currently hovering around $83 a barrel and that's 22% since may. so increasing oil prices should not kill off any economic growth. checking in
