first in devine. tara moriarty is there with more details on the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. two men were walking out of this restaurant called teske's at 2:00 in the morning the day before halloween. they noticed a man beating up a woman. they immediately jumped in to try to help her but ended up becoming victims themselves. the restaurant owners had just closed his doors and noticed the two men lying unconscious in the street. police say one of the victims suffered severe facial wounds. and both men ages 47 and 36 had to be transported to a nearby hospital. now authorities say the neighborhood is a realtively safe one and there have been some speculation the man they are looking for is a trained fighter. >> i was surprised that one guy could do this to two people. it was pretty -- i kind of used the phrase it was almost like this guy must have been an mma fighter. it was bad. >> reporter: now mma is the letter for the mixed marital arts. the woman is mixed race. medium height and build. shoulder length hair wearing a dark dress. the suspect is white in his mid wearing a maroon colored shirt. police have been unable to find either of them. they don't know if it was a domestic dispute here. again the incident happened on october 30th at 2:00 mt. morning. it was a saturday. if you have any information or saw anything you are ask the to contact 100 protestors shut down the fruitvale bart station for an hour last night. they marched from the barbershop where derrick dd jones was shot and killed by two oakland police officers on monday. those officers say they thought jones was reaching for a weapon but he was unarmed. >> at the end of the day a son is stop avenue gone, a -- a son is gone, a father is gone. >> bart says no arrests were made. demonstrators will march again at the same location beginning at 3:00. a proposed gang injunction -- oakland city attorney it will help reduce crime and violence in that area. police are serving notices to 41 alleged gang members to appear in court. it created one of the bay area's worst traffic jams. the antioch man that threatened to blow up the bay bridge remains in the san francisco county jail this morning. the tenth incident yesterday morning created a two hour traffic nightmare. the chp shut down all westbound lanes when he pulled over west of treasure island and threatened to blow up his suv. jade hernandez joins us now. >> reporter: good morning. the man that shut down the top deck of the bay bridge he faces several charges this morning. he told the california highway patrol that he was extremely sorry for causing concern and issues in creating a two hour traffic backup. >> from talking to mr. valentino he was extremely remorseful. he was very apologetic. he feels very bad for what took place. >> reporter: we've received a text message from the wife of the 51-year-old security guard. craig carlos valentino. her husband took her 15-year- old daughter to breakfast but before getting there he stopped hiss suv on the bay bridge just west of treasure island. carlos told authorities by phone he had a gun and was going to blow up his car. the security guard made several phone calls. he also texted his sister. his sister said her brother encountered a rough patch in his marriage. his wife of more than 20 years was having an affair and he was going to commit suicide. carlos' actions caused a train reaction for drivers after the highway patrol shut down the bridge after 7:00 for two hours. during an the incident they did not shut down the lower deck saying that carlos at no point threatened to blow up the bridge and during the incident he threw the gun off of it. the gun was not real. they found another plastic pellet gun inside the suv the bush era tax cuts. but as alison burns reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom the president is making his views on the news today. >> reporter: good morning to you. that is right of course president obama is embroiled in trade talks overseas baa also face -- but also facing tough questions what to do about the bush era tax cuts. they expire at the end of december. after the president's meetings he talked to reporters who asked him if he changed his mind and will keep the push tax cuts in place. the president said he wants to extend the tax cuts for everyone else but not families making over $250,000 a year. >> i think that would be a mistake. particularly when we've got our republican friends saying that their number one priority is making sure we deal with our debt and deficit. >> reporter: republicans want to extend the tax cuts for everyone. the president is going to meet with them and democratic leaders next week when congress returns for a lame duck session. brown is continuing with his reputation for frugality as he prepared to take over the office. head has turned over for his transition team. he will l operate out of his oakland campaign head quarters and office space he already has in sacramento because of his current position as state attorney general. so far his transition team consists of a dozen volunteers and unpaid advisors. when pipeline explosion. there are so many losses that pg&e asked for the cases to be consolidated and handled by one judge. that they say can help exopodite the settlement process. they are asked respond to that request in 60 days. the september ninth blast killed eight people. 39 homes were destroyed. flight attendants are joining pilots at opposing the full body scanners. the pilots are worried about the health effects on frequent fliers including themselves. the low levels of radiations are safe. san francisco is looking at a new high-tech scanning system to make the city's nightclubs safer. this is a response to recent violence including a deadly shooting at a club at the marie that. this new technology would include an id scanning system that will include a persons name, birthday, and time of club visit. there is concern about invasion of privacy and that the system could violate civil rights. law enforcement agencies in three bay area counties are looking to install a surveillance system that is already being used in one small town near modesto. they have 77 live cameras keeping a watchful eye on the city. it has helped catch criminals and the crime rate has plumbed. most retailers welcome the cameras but others say it goes too far. >> in some ways i believe it's invasion of privacy. others it comes in handy for police department. >> i feel for myself comfortable of having both cameras. having that security here. >> video from the half million dollar system is kept for at least a year. police and fire agenci are set to get the first elements of a the answer was clear for two men walking out of this restaurant called teske's. they came out here to the middle of the street. they noticed a man was beating up a woman. they jumped in to try to help her. then they became victims themselves when the suspect attacked them and left them lies unconscious on the street. now after the restaurant owner closed his door he he noticed the two men lying on the street. he said there was blood everywhere and he couldn't believe this one man had the strength to take down two other men. they don't know if they knew each other because they ran off. >> we are concerned about her safety. we don't know the relationship between the male and female. we don't know if it's a domestic situation or if they are strangers. >> reporter: now the woman the two men tried to help is described as mixed race part asian or latino in her mid 20s. last seen wearing a dark dress. the attacker is described as white in his mid 20s 6'2" with a lean build short hair wearing a maroon colored shirt and dark pants. police say this is a realtively safe area and there is talk that this man could be a trained marital arts fighter. if you have any information that may be helpful to authorities you are urged to contact san jose police. in san francisco there is a new push by police to crack down on shoplifters at malls and super markets. police are considering putting shoplifters in jail even if they won't be prosecuted later. officers say most shoplifters are never successfully prosecuted because a jury doesn't convict someone for stealing less than $100. shoplifting cases in the city are way up this year compared to last year. police are suggesting that shoplifters spend some time in jail to discourage them. a redwood city woman has been sentenced to 13 years in a state mental institution following an attack on her family. 50-year-old brown pleaded no contest to felony assault. prosecutors say brown attacked her daughter and son with a ten pound dumbbell and tried to poison her husband. they determined she was insane at the time of the attack . an arraignment is scheduled today for a man who attacked a woman. he is charged with murder, attempted rape, robbery, and burglarly. if convicted holland could be eligible for the death penalty. he's currently on patrol for a 1999 attempted murder conviction in fresno. a parolee has been shot and killed. 32-year-old shane hutchins was wanted with several crimes including a sexual assault case in curran county and a kidnapping in ukiah. authorities were tipped off where he was on wednesday but police say when he tried to escape, they opened fire. he was killed there at the scene. the antioch man that threatened to blow up the bridge remains in jail this morning and the investigation continues. the tense incident yesterday morning created a two hour traffic nightmare. many bridge commuters will never forget. the trouble began just before 7:00 a.m.. the chp shut down all westbound lanes after the man pulled over west of treasure island and threatened to blow up his car. the closure turned the bridge into a parking lot. >> to me it was outrageous. the traffic was backed way up. it took us to get here this -- it took us forever to get here this morning. >> it's horrifying. >> the man's 16-year-old daughter was with him in the car at first but he let her go. he was taken into custody at 8:00 a.m.. he had a fake gun and not carrying any explosives. the bridge reopened at 9:00 a.m.. new details are coming out at an investigation about that man. he's 51-year-old craig carlos valentino. he lives with his wife, three of his children and a grandchild. investigators described him as mentally unstable and his wife had just revealed on facebook she was leaving him. now his sister told sacramento tv station she watched that bridge drama as it happened on live television. >> i saw the vehicle. i said that's not his car is it? and then he got out of the vehicle and i was like oh my god it is him. he's not a domestic terrorist by no stretch of the imagination whatsoever. >> his sister also said his brother was under a lot of stress working a security guard at several san francisco nightclubs. moments before that standoff carlos valentino called a bay area radio station. he told the producer his wife had been cheating on him and he couldn't take it anymore. now our channel 2 website has more information about the bay bridge standoff and investigation just go to ktvu.com. 6:37 is the time right now. let's go to sal to check in on the commute. livermore was the problem earlier on? >> that is right. livermore is still slow because of an earlier crash. westbound 580 you can see the traffic is slow. it's solid slow traffic because of a crash at the livermore airport involving a motorcycle. the traffic is very, very slow. you should be aware of it if you're coming in from tracy it will add extra time. unfortunately it's not going to unwind any time soon. let's move along and take a look at southbound 880 that traffic looks pretty good coming up to the oakland downtown area. traffic is moving along pretty well. there is no major problems here on this day. 1936 the bay bridge did open for traffic. i goes guess -- i guess you can say it's 64 years old. let's go to steve. >> how is the back up then? did et goes go the maze? >> yeah the metering lights are on. we do have clear skies. a couple of locations have a hint of a breeze. not much. one is south one is north. not much of a breeze so far. a cold morning 30s. highs near 70s. the warmer weather continues into the weekend. it will be breezy and warmer. for those of you sometimes you e-mail me and ask next rain. next rain? oakland. kraig debro joins us now. >> reporter: good morning. backed up by a county coroners report. the police yesterday said they made it clear derrick jones was not shot in the back. but protestors made it clear they are upset about police shooting of unarmed black men and plan to disrupt bart services today. they met at a barbershop and marched two miles to the fruitvale bart station. they were met with helmeted bart police who prevent the them from going to the platform. they marched to the fraught vail bart station because that's where another unarmed black man was shot and killed. >> if you look at it all the circumstances any time we have an officer in a shooting it's not good. >> reporter: two officers shot and killed derrick jones. they say jones physically assaulted a woman near his barbershop. when officers arrived jones ran. police say the officers shot jones because he repeatedly reached for something in his waistband. police admit yesterday jones did not have a weapon. >> if you look at the officer involved shootings we've had this year, we've only this is our third fatality for the year. and we are in a very dangerous city. this is the most dangerous city in california. >> unfortunately police officers have gotten comfortable with qualified immunity and they feel like they can manufacture the same generic story. >> reporter: jones' family says derrick jones might have run from police because of past run ins or didn't want to go back to jail after battling back from a checkered past. oakland pd has not released the names of the officers involved. both appear to have four years on the force. one is a member of the swat team and both appear to be hispanic. reporting live kraig debro. thank you. 6:47. in san francisco a new city wide ban could take effect. this one would ban circumcising young men under the age of 18. the punishment could be a year in jail. supporters want to collect the 7,000 signatures on the ballot. they describe it as with the bay bridge. traffic will be slowing there. that's where we are starting. westbound traffic will be slow there. although it's not up to the usual volume. we're getting a little bit of a break today at the bay bridge. also this morning we're looking at the commute here on interstate 880 and so far it has been much better than the last few days when we've had probablimatic disputes. right now westbound 580 they are stuck with slow traffic. it's getting slower and slower because of a an accident clearing up at the livermore airport. minor injuries but it's still on the right hand side.
