Election. I have the honor of serving as attorney general and i plan to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate. Chris we will discuss the latest developments on russia with republican senator john thune and democratic senator ben cardin. Plus, the president s legislative goals are stalled as repeal and replace creates a logjam in congress. We will ask our sunday panel if Senate Republicans can bring their Health Care Bill back from the dead. All right now on fox news sunday. And hello again from fox news in washington. President trump has hit the six month mark with his push to repeal and replace obamacare stalled in the senate and investigations were expanding o possible links with the russians. Wondering whether the president has decided to shake up his staff. Joining me now is the new White House Communications director Anthony Scaramucci. Welcome to fox news sunday. Anthony its great to be here, thank you, good morning. Chris lets talk about how you see your new job. Heres what you had to say on friday. I think there has been at times a disconnect between where you see the president and how much we love the president and the way some of perhaps some of you see the president. Chris how do you close what you call that disconnect . Anthony i actually dont think thats the hard part. I think the hard part is to get reorganized and figure out one of the first things i want to do is we have to get the leaks stopped. Its washington, so its going to be impossible to stop all of them, but i think whats going on right now is a high level of unprofessionalism and its not serving the president. My three simple things is i would like to reset the culture inside the Communication Department so that people recognize im actually there to serve them and they will be working with me, not for me. Thats a very big distinction. And that all of us are there to serve the president of United States and his agenda. First thing for me is i want to hit a cultural reset button, second thing is we have to get the leaks stopped. If we dont get them stopped im a businessperson so i will take dramatic action to stop those leaks. In the third thing is i will be traveling with the president this week and we are going to focus and refine the messaging from the white house. He is one of the most effective communicators that has never been born and we are going to make sure we get that message out directly to the American People and i think the gap between how certain people think of him and how i see him or say how someone likes for, ivanka season. Chris leaks coming from both inside the white house and also from whats called the deep state, people in the bureaucracy, particularly the intelligence agencies or law enforcement, what kind of drastic action . Anthony im being very, very clear with people, as far as im concerned that staff has amnesty. We will see how they do with me at the home. If the leaks dont stop im going to pare down the staff because its just not right. I think its not fair to the president , its actually not fair to america or the people in the government. Im not going to be able to stop the leaks in the intro to governmental agencies, thats a whole different ball of wax. Something is going on inside the white house that the president does not like. We will fix it. Chris use a pair down the staff, this isnt coming just from the communications team. Are you saying youve been given Carte Blanche authority by the president . Anthony im focused on the communications team. As far as im concerned its a new start for everybody in that team and everybody in that team can stay as long as they follow the protocol of not leaking, because at the end of the day, the president is super upset about the leaks, its unprofessional and so you are asking what the four steps are, that will be one of my first steps. Chris do you believe that the Mainstream Media deliberately puts out fake news about this president . Anthony there is some fake news, unfortunately. When you see the Mainstream Media, i think thats a very broad statement. What i would like to say, and what i would like to believe, there still a level of objectivity in the Mainstream Media, but unfortunately there are specific individuals that do stretch stories or do fabricate things. Ive been the victim of it myself so its definitely there, chris. I dont think we can dial that down, but we can use the mechanisms of social media and the president s presence in social media to hop over that if necessary. But what i would say to you is that the good news here is that its a fresh start for everybody. I certainly want to engage the Mainstream Media. I expect that they will want to hold me and the white house accountable and we will want to hold them accountable, too. Im hoping it will be symmetry in that relationship. Chris you say there are certain individuals, certain outlets, do you want to call any of them out by name . Anthony no. Again, its more specific to specific stories so its not necessary to call anybody out by name. Im hoping to create an era of a new good feeling with the media, give everybody a fresh start, lets see if we can reset this and create a more positive mojo among everybody. Again, like i said, we have a story that we want to tell, its a phenomenal story for the American People. Theres a policy agenda in place and i think its phenomenal for the American People. If you look at the last six months i think theres been some distortion in terms of how successful weve actually been. I think we want to clear that up. I think the president made that clear in his press release on friday that we are doing very, very well. If lots of the American People are super happy. We just need to close that gap, if you will, and make that connection more forcefully. Chris at one of those areas with the president has said theres been a lot of fake news has been in the russia investigation and the potential for a scandal there. President trump reportedly wanted you because you are a tough street fighter like he has. Is he putting together a ward staff and the white house to take on the various russia investigations . Anthony listen, i sort of see this two prongs as it relates to that. We want to refine our Rapid Response team. In some ways we want to deescalate things and have that be a level of diplomacy. In other ways we wanted to be very hardhitting and warlike. It sort of a blend of those two things, chris, but as it relates to specifically the russia, there are certain things i can talk about from inside the white house and there are certain things are not allowed to talk about. I really havent been briefed yet by white House Counsel as to what i can and cannot say. Heres what i will say to you, if you dont mind. I worked intensely on the campaign and i think that the russian situation is completely overblown. I was falsely accused of things related to russia. I know other people are being falsely accused of things related to russia. And im confident that tomorrow when Jared Kushner speaks i will keep my fingers crossed, it will be the last time he has to talk about russia. For me i would like to get this behind us. One of the things i do not like about washington, i sort of feel like it is Scandals Incorporated on washington that we have to make up things about each other, chris, so that we can personally destroy each other to make us less effective as public servants. I dont like it at all. Dont let me interrupt for a minute. We do this here in washington. On the specific question, part of it is diplomacy, part of it is hardhitting, do you see anything wrong with going up to the special counsel and his team when it comes to possible conflicts of interest or when it comes to your feeling of the president s feeling that he is expanding the scope of the investigation too far into the president s business affairs. Anthony i want the president to be the president and i want him to express the full nature of his personality. Core 11 desk he used to say early on in the campaign let him be prompt. Its a little disrespectful because he is the president. If he wants to talk about things like that are not going to want to stop them or even be able to, i want to be there to help aid and abet his agenda. For me, i have a different personality style from the president in some ways, in other ways we are very similar. I just want there to be fairness and objectivity. Lets see how the whole thing rolls out but my feeling about this thing is that its overblown, its completely unfair, its designed to take people off message and off of our agenda and we are going to get people on our message and on our agenda. Chris let me ask you one last broader question and then i want to talk about agenda, and a tweet this week the president said this, this weekend. He asserted his complete power to pardon. They have done nothing wrong, why even talk about parties . Anthony again, this is one of those things about washington, and its the convolution and the nature of things. Im in the oval office with the president last week, we are talking about that. He says he brought that up, he doesnt have to have to be pardoned, theres nobody around him that has to be pardoned. It was just making a statement about the power of pardon and now all of the speculation and all the spin, hes going to pardon himself, the president does not need to pardon himself and the reason is he hasnt done anything wrong. So for me we can micro analyze every one of his tweets, thats fine, we can go in that direction, but what i want to do for peoples get it back on the president s agenda, this is a jobs president , he will help middleclass families, lower middleclass families. You want to talk about gaps, chris . There is a wide income gap that many elites do not feel but the president feels like. Members of the staff feel it and people in Middle America feel it. We are going to put policies together that close that gap. If people want to talk about these nonsensical scandals, i will let them, but im going to be missile locked on focusing on the president s agenda and helping people to understand the president the way i know him in the way i love him. Chris i have to ask you one last question, and i hesitate to do that. Does the president still have full confidence in his attorney general . Hes had some tough things to say about Jeff Sessions this weekend and his decision to recuse and then its this new story in the Washington Post that the Russian Ambassador told supposedly told his superiors that he had talked with sessions about campaign matters. Does the president still have confidence in sessions . Anthony this is something i think is super important. If i want to leave a question like that for the president and attorney general sessions. Talk about themselves. My guess is that hes in the seat so therefore the president still has confidence in him. Im sure, like all of us there are things that attorney general sessions has done that the president doesnt like and let them have that conversation amongst themselves and hopefully we can fix it. Chris, heres the thing. The good thing about President Trump is he wears a lot on his leg, we know exactly where he comes from and where he stands on things. The reason why the American People love him and the reason why he became president is because he wears his heart on his sleeve, very caring, but is also a Good Business executive. He tells people how he feels. Another thing i dont like about washington. If i dont like something they were saying and i put out a tweet and say i dont like chris wallace, all of a sudden you and i have to be mortal enemies for the rest of our lives. I dont think thats how it works in american business. We sort of need to stop doing that in the political system. Chris okay. Speaking of tweets, and the time we have left lets do a lightning round, quick questions, quick answers, anthony. You have been deleting some old tweets over the last couple of days, you say, quite understandably because they are a distraction. They were when you werent working for donald trump, now you are. If the stuff lives forever, as you know. In 2012 you tweeted we, the usa, has 5 of the worlds population but 50 of the worlds guns, enough is enough, it is just common sense to apply more control. Question, do you believe that . Anthony the answer to the question is im a prosecond amendment person. My dad was a hunter, ive got no problem with that. What i was worried about in 2012, in urban centers if you dont have a little level of gun control it can lead to more violence. Truth be told, this is the reason why i deleted the tweets, its a total distraction, its total nonsense. When i made the decision to take this job my politics and my political ideas do not matter at all. What matters is that i am subordinating all of that to the present incident. Ed, who lived in this great city, had a great line. If you believe in 9 out of the 12 things are work then you should fork for me. If you believe 12 out of the 12 things, you need a psychiatrist. Chris let me pick up because you are blowing the whole idea of the lightning round. Anthony thoughts of super loaded question for a 152nd answer. Go ahead. Chris heres another one, you talked on friday about a famous incident in 2015. You will shake your head, or you called President Trump hack politician. Its actually much worse than that, i looked at the tape. Hes a hack politician. Politicians dont want to go at trump because hes got a big mouth and hes afraid hes going to like him up on fox news and all these other places, but im not a politician. Wisely resonating . Biko from queens county, bring it, donald. Chris heres the question, where both new yorkers. Is that what trump likes about you, that you are like him, you fight like an . Anthony he hits first. He called me from air force one he said you remember the whole story, and i said what you mean and he says i brought you to my office, is that im thinking about running for president , you told me that i wasnt running, which is true. This is way early and i told him i was going to sign up with scott walker because i needed chris lightning round. Anthony the lightning rod on your showing a clip, you have to give me a chance to explain myself. He was hitting the Hedge Fund Industry on fox friends. When hes hitting the Hedge Fund Industry and thats my life look, im heading back. He knows that and he respects that about me. We were laughing about that last night. What i love about you guys is its a three minute segment that i guess is going to be played for eternity, we should put it on the voyager spacecraft and send it interstellar. Chris let me just say anthony we are new yorkers and this is my point. I love the guy, i spent the last 18 months supporting him unyielding only because hes a great person. Hes going hes a phenomenal president and hes even going to be a better president. Youre not allowed to fight a little bit amongst her friends . If you are not allowed to do that, where we doing . Stone am i not not allowed to actually put that on . Its funny, i make your promise, i will never play that cliff again. Anthony you can play it again. Chris i dont want to. Anthony my point, im a new yorker, hes a new yorker, we are allowed to go at it a little bit. Chris s that makes three of us. Anthony god bless, but my point is we were laughing about it yesterday, i think john asked me about it at the press conference, every 15 seconds he reminds me. Chris one quick final question, 30 seconds to answer this one. You have suggested, before you became communications director, maybe we will put on a show, a white house show every morning, anchor desk on the north want to talk about the administration policies. Are you serious . Anthony talk to the president about it. Thats when i was brainstorming before i had an official job. Heres what i would say to you in less than 30 seconds, we are going to reinvent the way we deliver information out of the white house because the world has changed. I have in my pocket a radio studio, a Television Studio and a movie studio. The entire world has changed and we need to rethink the way we are delivering our information. Stay tuned. Chris anthony, thank you, thanks for your time, we hope to have you back often. Anthony great to be her. Chris up next we will bring in our sunday group to discuss with the white house shakeup says about where President Trump wants to go from here. I love the president , i the president. Chris no White House Communications director Anthony Scaramucci leaving no doubt about his loyalty to his new boss. Its time now for our sunday group. Former republican congressman ace and jackets, who is now a fox news contributor, welcome. Columnist for the hill, juan williams. Julie pace, Washington Bureau chief of the Associated Press and former National Security council staffer gillian turner. Julie, at the risk of repeating them, i love this new guy. Finally the Trump White House as a surrogate who talks like the boss. Exactly, i think thats what has a lot of trump loyalists and supporters happy with this pick. They feel like this is somebody who understands the way the president communicates, who will go up there and have one mission, and thats to serve the president , to promote his agenda. It sounds simple, thats what youre supposed to do in this job, but at the reality is that in this white house you have a lot of different factions and is a lot of speculation every day about their true motivations, about what they are really there to do. Particularly in the communications, a lot of people come over from the rnc, an organization that while they were tacitly supporting trump in the general election, it was pretty clear they did not believe he was actually going to win. That has fueled a lot of attention and some of the things anthony said in the end if you would make me pretty nervous if i came from the rnc and i was working in that now. Chris brought over by Reince Priebus on sean spicer and he was basically saying theres a new sheriff in town. What do you make of the same question i asked him, his appointment and his aggressiveness says about the way this president will take on the russia investigation . I think the russia investigation is something they will be dealing with for months or even years. They have to figure out a strategy. If they can be aggressive, they can take it had on every day or, and this is what a lot of republicans prefer they do, they try to push a different agenda, focus more on health care, have the president out there talking about it, tax reform, infrastructure. Thats where they have fallen down, they keep getting bogged down by russia and they havent had the ability to promote a different, more positive agenda. Chris speaking about getting tripped up and mixing messages, i want to play some clips from the president s interview with the New York Times this week. Here is his take on his own attorney. How do you take a job if you recuse yourself . If he would recuse himself before the child, i would have said thanks, but i cant take you. Its extremely unfair and thats a mild word, to the president. Chris cures the president on special counsel Robert Muellers investigation. Your familys finances unrelated to russia, is that a redline . To breach. Chris is it a mistake for the president to take on sessions and mueller are sure to go after them . Hes going to do what hes going to do, thats part of whats enduring to america, the fact that he just kind of lays it out the way that he wants to. If i do think it was a mistake to have a special counsel, i dont think it has risen to that level, but nonetheless it is in place. I think its going to have a very aggressive style going after him. Chris do you think its smart to go after the pastor, prosecutor and undercut them . I dont think its necessarily the right way to do it but its the way the president is going to do it and i think thats why he brought on Anthony Scaramucci. He speaks native trump and he wont convey that to the American People. Chris not only did attorney general sessions get a kind of vote of noconfidence in the president , but he also has to deal with this new Washington Post report that i talked to Anthony Scaramucci about. The Russian Ambassador was telling his superiors in moscow, with the kremlin, that he had discussions with sessions about campana matters, something that you will see now he flatly denied. Let me be clear, i never had meetings with russian operatives or russian intermediaries about the trump campaign. Chris how much trouble is Jeff Sessions in and with Jared Kushner testifying it not once, but twice this week before congressional committees behind closed doors, how serious is the russia investigation . From my perspective its getting more serious by the day. To the point about the attorney general, his dealings with Russian Ambassador kislyak are the reasons he recused himself. He did it voluntarily, something the president says he now presents. It was his decision to do that. In terms of the attorney general and this Ongoing Investigation theres really to build on a point julie may, there are two models the president can follow. This is something president bus bushs National Security advisor captured brilliantly in may. There are two models, connectio connection clinton model. Your lawyer up, you have your hand in the pot every day, he pushed back as hard as you can, or there is what he called the reagan model which as you take a step back, you have respect for the process and you let the chips ultimately fall where they may. The Trump Administration is clearly choosing the former model, they could still reverse course if they wanted to and i think certainly it would be politically smarter to make that decision. Chris it didnt work for nixon, it did work for clinton. It worked for president clinton to a certain extent. He stayed in office and he survived and he roughed up can start. Let me move to you, juan, what do you think the president s various actions this week on Anthony Scaramucci, the surprising interview to the New York Times on shaking up his legal team, the guy who was in charge, what do you think that tells you about where this president is right now . I think is totally focused on the russian story. Lets use the cultural term, the godfather, hes going to the mattresses right now. She brings in scaramucci because he sees him as a guy who got an apology from cnn, got people fired at cnn. Chris cnn did a story that scaramucci was under investigation, there is no evidence that he was. Thats what followed. President trump, who had initially taken advice from his white house chief of staff not to bring in scaramucci, suddenly he is now fascinated with scaramucci because hes had success in the kind of street fight attitude. You have that, but then the big surprise, the New York Times interview two after his old attorney general and you have to wonder about the subsequent weeks about the attorney genera attorney general. Given what he said about Robert Mueller and trying to discredit him, who is the investigator, that he now thinks if i can get rid of sessions, i can get somebody over there who will fire mueller and make it easier for me as we go down that path. We are on war footing. This is an explosive moment for the president , for the legal system, for the constitution. Chris i want to ask you one quick questions at the end of the segment because the thought occurred to me on thursday you have the president saying im really unhappy with Jeff Sessions and i wouldnt have appointed him and the next day there is this link of information. The fact that sessions may have misled everybody about what he talked to the Russian Ambassador about. Obviously the thought has occurred to you. It has occurred to me and many other reporters. The friends of the Washington Post, they have been working on this information since june. If the president think he has felt the ire of the washington, d. C. , fire the attorney general or the special counsel. You will really feel the raft. Chris what we are going to do, we are now going to talk agenda. Maybe not quite. We will take a break, see you a little later. Coming up, the senate gets ready to vote on obamacare, but what will they be voting on . Two key senators join us next. Chris coming up, President Trump puts pressure on Senate Republicans to keep a Major Campaign promise. Any senator who votes against starting debate is really telling america that you are fine with obamacare. Chris we will ask chris a look outside the beltway at Mount Rushmore in keystone south dakota. The senate holds a big boat this week on what to do about obamacare with major splits among republican members. Meanwhile, other priorities like the budget, tax reform and raising the debt limit are stacking up like planes over an airport on a summer afternoon. Joining me now to discuss the trump agenda from south dakota at the chair of the republican conference, senator john tony and from baltimore, democratic senator ben cardin. Gentlemen, before we get to obamacare, i want to talk about the agreement that both parties have apparently reached over the weekend about a bill to impose new sanctions on russia and to limit the president s ability to let those sanctions. As the president going to sign that bill . Senator thune i believe he will come of the Senate Passed it 982. Both of us voted for that. The house is made some minor modifications, they extended it to north korea. This is a bill that will go to the president s desk and he started to should sign it into law. Chris there has been some pushback from the administration, they dont like the idea that it limits his ability to conduct diplomacy by imposing sanctions and limiting his ability to lift them. Senator thune thats true, but i think in the end of the administration will come to the conclusion that an overwhelming majority of congress has, that we need to sanction russia for their meddling in the u. S. Election. I think overwhelmingly in the senate, the vetoproof majority. Theres a lot of reasons to sign it, and i believe he will. Chris senator cardin do you share your confidence that he will sign it, and what if he doesnt, what if he does veto i it . Senator cardin this is a very strong bill and it imposes mandatory sanctions on russia, provides for congressional review if the president wants to wait or eliminate sanctions, its very bipartisan, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee drafted a good part of it, the banking committee. It has broad support in the senate and in the house. If he vetoes the bill we will override his veto. Chris lets turn to the Big Health Care vote this week. Heres what Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said. We democrats dont know what our republican friends are planning to vote on it next week. I will but many republicans dont know yet either. Chris senator thune, as the number three republican in the senate, do you know what you will be voting on it next . Is it repeal, or is it repeal and replace . Senator thune its voting to get on the bill, its voting to open the debate. We cant change the status quo, skyrocketing premiums and collapsing markets out there for way too many americans, and less wicked on the bill. The vote will be at some point this week to proceed to consideration of both the bill. If unlimited opportunity for democrats, for ben cardin and some of his colleagues to offer their amendments, for republican colleagues to offer theirs to improve and strengthen the bill. The first vote, which will occur sometime this week will be to proceed to that consideration about that legislation and to have a debate where we can have an open amendment process. Chris without getting too far into the weeds, the bill is the house bill, which likes. The question, senator mcconnell is going to offer a substitute, the First Amendment and is that going to be an repeal repeal and replace . Senator thune ultimately thats a judgment that the senator will make at some point this week before the vote, depending on how these discussions go. If we can reach an agreement among republicans about the bil bill, i hope we do. I think the senate bill does strike the right balance. One way or the other we need to get on the bill to have that debate. The leader will make that decision at some point about whether that is repeal, i hope its repeal and replace. No matter which came here when you cant have a debate about either and less wicked on the bill. We need a yes vote, thats the only way to change the status quo. Chris this got even more complicated on friday when the senate said that some measures in the mcconnell bill, the bill that the majority leader is offering, are outside senate rules and maybe out of order, so where does that leave the school thing . Senator cardin if we go on the bill, if the republicans had the votes to move on the bill, 2200000033 million americans are at risk of losing their coverage. All americans arent risk of losing Quality Insurance coverage. If we get on this bill, we are under whats called reconciliation and many of the amendments will not be in order because they have to deal directly with the fiscal issues because its reconciliation. We dont have an open process, we have a very narrow opportunity to really change this bill. Chris senator thune, President Trump, we were at that meeting this week in the white house, said to republican senators that you have all talked tough when president obama was in the white house but things have changed, here it is. For seven years you had an easy route, we will repeal, we will replace and he will never sign it. But im signing it. Its a little bit different. Chris senator thune, if republicans blocked the bill up this week, either dont vote to begin the debate or begin the debate and go against whatever is on the floor, is that the end of repeal and replace . Senator thune its not. What will happen if and when that were to occur as we go back to the drawing board and we will get a bill up, we will vote to repeal and replace obamacare, if not a question of if, its a question of when. My argument is we need to do it sooner rather than later, which is the argument the president made. Spiraling into outofcontrol. Its in a death spiral, since 2013 premiums in this country and the individual marketplace have more than doubled. You have are in a free fall and something has to be done sooner. I think thats why we need to get on the bill and start this debate and if people want to amend it, it is an open amendment process, unlimited amendments that can be offered in the senate will have an opportunity to work as well. We cant change the status quo and less wicked on the bill. I think we have responsibility and a duty to American People that we committed and promised we would repeal and replace obamacare with something better. They need to hold us accountable and i think the sooner we get on the bill debating these issues the more quickly we will get a result, which takes us in a better direction with lower premiums and stable markets and liberating people from all these mandates and regulations and taxes that they have an obamacare today. Chris weve only got a couple of minutes left. As i mentioned before, there are a lot of other things that are stacking up to basically keep the government running. You have to pass a budget, the government runs out of money on october 1st, you have to raise the debt limit. At a certain point we reach that barrier. What are the chances we will be able to avoid a train wreck this fall . Im asking. Senator cardin if theres a better way to move forward. Theres a better way to move forward. In response to senator thune, if democrats and republicans Work Together we can get things done. Alexander, the republican german of the Health Committee says he will schedule hearings, we had no hearings on the bill about the republicans are considering. We Work Together on the fiscal year 17 budget. We want to improve the Affordable Care act, not repeal it. We can bring on Overall Health care cost and making particularly in the individual marketplace, Health Insurance more affordable. On the budget issues we have members of the authorizing committees on both sides, the Environmental Public Works Committee will be passing out some authorization bills that deal with the budget. We need to deal with a realistic budget for fiscal year 18 for progress we made in 17 working together. If we do that its in the best interest of the American People, we can get a reasonable budget and we can move this country forward. Chris we will close on that optimistic note. Thank you both, thanks for coming in today. Always good to talk with you gentlemen. Up next we will bring back the panel, whether the Senate Republicans can revise, repeal and replace or whether its time to move on. What would you like to ask the panel about the white house shakeup and what it says about the presidency six months in . Go to facebook or twitter, foxnewssunday, and we may use your question on the air. Okay, i picked out my dream car. Nows the really fun part. Choosing the color, the wheels, the interior, everything exactly how i want it. Heres the thing just because i configured this car online doesnt mean it really exists at a dealership, but with truecar, i get real pricing on actual cars in my area. I see what others paid for them, and they show me the ones that match the car i want, so i know i can go to a truecarcertified dealer and itll be right there waiting for me. Today, right now. This is truecar. I want to say i am thrilled to be our new captain. I want this to be an efficient ship and also one that you are glad to be surfing on. Let obamacare fail, it will be a lot easier. We are in the position where we will let it fail, we are not going to own it. Chris President Trump, who took a number of different positions on obamacare this way, repeal, repeal and replace, and as you saw there just put the whole thing collapsed. Back now with the panel. What are they really think of the white house . Do they think that repeal and replace is dead or do they somehow think that at the last moment faced with about that some of the senators who have come out against it will vote for it . There have been some days where they have been pretty down, they can exactly see how they will get back, with senator mccain being out, thats a crucial vote. They planned to spend the next couple of days trying to see if theres a way through here, trying to see if they could get the votes, repeal and replace, repeal only. Mixed messages, the constant shifting from the president , sometimes within the same day is hugely unhelpful. Republicans also want to move forward, they want to put a bell on his desk and have it signed. But its really unclear day today at what bill he actually wants to sign. Chris we ask you for questions for the panel. Could donald trump have done more to dig into health care legislative process . Was there a lack of president ial effort involvement . I looked into this, the president has not made, since he took office, a single major speech that was really devoted to repeal and replace, say what you will about obamacare, a lot of problems with it, but president obama was pushing it. I think the president actually could do more, use the power of air force one, make the speeches, get out of the country. At this point the white house communication is lets just have something, sort of like al davis from the oakland raiders, just when not, just put something up on the board and now that they are playing live ammunition you have a lot of republicans that are getting squishy. Ultimately the responsibility know of the senate. A motion to proceed, are we going to have a debate, from what is supposed to be the most deliberative body on the face of the planet, we can even get republicans to agree to debate the bill. Chris what you think is the impact of that, at this point they do not have the 50 votes plus the Vice President to break the tie to even begin debate. Thats whats so frustrating. If you go to the heartland, thats where people are most concerned. You dont even have the debate little on the boat. It may fail, but at least have the debate and thats the first question that will come up. Chris some shocking news this week, senator john mccain has an aggressive, malignant form of brain cancer. Here is his best friend in the senate, lindsey graham. I cant think of anything ive done since 1999 politically and personally that was worth doing without john. If i just ask god for one thing, that he has a voice and he can use it as long as possible. Chris juan, this has both personal and political residence here in washington, doesnt it . Tremendous residence here in washington. I think everybodys prayers are with senator john mccain and his family. A special expression to meghan mccain, our fox colleagues to her and her dad. Much love and respect. He has a special place in washington because in a time of polarized politics that we live and shes able to operate across party lines. Finance reform, if you think of mccain, kennedy on immigration reform. You think of his efforts going overseas tirelessly traveling to places in the midst of war to say this is the american policy, i want to know whats going on on the ground. He takes people who are politically opposite like Elizabeth Warren with him to show them what is actually taking place on the ground. He operates in a way that i think gives him some special cachet, if you will, because everybody wants to talk to him, i would add given his status as a military hero, theres no one like him in this generation. You think about the idea that he stayed in a prison camp and said im not leaving despite the statue of my father and grandfather. To be with the said we will let you go because her father is an admiral. Right. Theres a man of character, theres a guy we want standing up and i so often hear republicans say somebody is a patriot, hes one of us, theres a real patriot right here, john mccain. Chris as a member of the National Seminary potomac security council, how big a player is john mccain when it comes to National Security . He is everything. I messaged his daughter and said your dad is truly an American National treasure, we dont have many of them in this country but hes one of them. The potential loss of his service in the Senate Whether he steps aside tomorrow or years from now. Chris we should say, if anybody can pull it off, he says im coming back. And i hope he does. The loss of his Senate Service whenever it comes, whatever he steps aside, constitutes a National Security crisis for the g. O. P. By extension for the country in the sense that this is the person who was been the primary voice on National Security issues for a decade. Somebody who explains the isis threat to us starting in 2014 when they first emerged on the scene. He explained the threats posed by our nuclear adversaries around the world and i dont see on the republican side and a current leader to rattle him and i dont see the next generation of leaders who are going to have that same have that same voice on these issues. Chris i want to pick up on that with you, congressman, because both with barack obama and with donald trump there has been this talk about kind of pulling back, rolling up our engagement with the rest of the world and john mccain is one of the few voices out there in either party talking about the kind of reaganesque aggressive engagement with the world. Hes a warrior, a true patriot in every way, uniquely american and i think he wants to help lead the charge. He doesnt want to sit back, he wants to take the fight to the enemy and he will do that every step of the way. His fight with cancer touches all of us. All of us have some relative or some friend that is fighting cancer and god bless him. Wish you nothing but the best. Chris very good strong sentiments. I have to say it feels like its not a good sunday without john mccain on one of the sunday shows. Senator, if youre watching, come on back and get into an argument with me, because we got into plenty. Up next, our power player of the week. She calls her profession the original search engine. Chris the Job Description could not be more daunting, to maintain a universal collection of human knowledge. As we asked last fall who would take on that assignment. Heres our power player of the week. Im smiling because for a library and this is ultimate library. Chris meet carla, the library of congress. Shes in charge of 162 million items, the worlds biggest collection of books movies, maps and music. And it keeps getting bigger. 15,000 items come in to the library of congress and about 12,000 of those items are actually added to the collection every day. So help me god. Chris just the 14th librarian of Congress Since 18 oh two and the first professional library. Each library of congress has had a different background. There have been lawyers, scholars, authors, politicians. Chris a couple of other things set her apart. The first woman, the first africanamerican, what does that mean to you . There are certain professions that have a preponderance of females. Being a woman at the helm of the Worlds Largest library is very significant. Africanamerican in a role that symbolizes knowledge and scholarship and information is also very empowering. Chris the librarys original mission was to be the research arm for congress, which is still one of its roles. Theres a tunnel that allows members and their staff and the Library Staff to go back and forth. Chris its been called the most beautiful public space in america, built in 1897 for 7 million, which was under budget and ahead of schedule. Theres criticism of the library has not kept up with the times and putting its collection online. She needs to change that. In her own handwriting she said i have been pushed around all my life and felt that this moment that i couldnt take it anymore. Chris she showed us the handwritten notes of rosa parks when she refused to go to the back of the box. Now the collection has been digitized. Imagine a child or a person looking at this, having that sense of history right here. Chris she loved reading as a little girl. I would read a cereal box, anything. Chris and when she discovered libraries. You never know what you will find. Chris the head of the Baltimore Library system during the 2015 riots there. She was determined to keep the library open in the midst of the unrest. There was no other place open and we were that life center for that community at a time. Chris she said libraries are Opportunity Centers where people can advance themselves and she calls librarians the original search engines. You have a person who has a lifetime of getting lost in books and libraries and bookstores to be the head of the Worlds Largest library. Thats pretty exciting. Chris as part of her Digital Initiative in may, the library of congress made 25 million pieces from its collection available for the public to download and its all free. Thats it for today, have a great week and we will see you next fox news sunday. Ght now, its all new.
