The truck was making a left turn and the driver of the car did not see the truck and drove into and underneath the trailer. The male driver was killed. A 10 Year Old Girl was on the scene, she was not hurt. Shes in good condition. People working in this area said the brilliant sunshine early this morning may have played a role in the crash. Going east on park avenue is hazardous in the morning, you can hardly see a thing going east because of the sun, the sun would blind a driver. Reporter as you can see from the scene there are no skid marks before the collision or at the collision site. Police are investigating that the result of the accident could have been from the bril yan sunshine, we are still trying to get the identify of the driver of the car. The intersection should be reopened shortly. They are just getting it cleaned and then it will be opened. Thats going to be a relief to traffic in the area. Thank you jesse. Bay area freeway shootings have been on the rise, there have been 80 in the last three months, how the states top transportation official is demanding more freeway cameras. Reporter an innocent victim of mistaken identity. He was not affiliated with any gangs. Reporter the 24 year olds last act was to save his friends life as a shooter in another car opened fire on them. Turns out, the gunman was looking for someone else. He would have come to anybodies rescue. Reporter but the boy is now the eighth person to die in a freeway shooting since the fall and the statistics obtained by ktvu fox news are startling. There have been more 80 shootings in the bay area during that time period. The most shootings and deaths happened in contra costa county, 35 in total. California Highway Patrol has said that most of the car to car shootings are targeted incidents involving gangs and the public should not be worried. California Highway Patrol wants to reassure the public that most of the danger from the highways are from traffic collisions. Reporter that does not sit well with mayors of these cities. Innocent lives are being lost, we want to minimize the danger to all of our residents. When you drive on the freeways in the bay area, the public is not safe. Reporter for almost a year, city officials and the contra costa da have asked the city to fund cameras to catch the shooters. We have funding from local Police Departments but to my knowledge, no funding from et state. Reporter smarl cities said they do not have the funds. The state is responsible for the freeway. Reporter two investigating went to sacramento to get some answers, i spoke with brian kelly who oversees caltrans and california Highway Patrol. We are working on the funding. Reporter why is it taking so much time. People are dying and getting shot. What do you say to that . I grew up in the bay area, i care about the safety of the people on the roads in the bay area, my family still lives in the bay area. I share the concern. We have thrown a lot of resources at this. Reporter he said his heart goes out to the victims and their families. I cannot imagine that pain. Reporter but he said cameras are not the only answer. They will not stop everything, its an investigative tool. Reporter he said citizens, not cameras led to the arrest of the killer in the previous case. It all comes down to money. We wait as we hear if the state will provide money to fund cameras. Its not clear when the bay area might get state funding but Officials Say it will taig a combination of technology and witnesses coming forward to help stop and solve these freeway shootings. There is in information about this weeks deadly fire in oakland. City leaders said a candle set off mondays fire at a west oakland Apartment Building fire where four people died. A fire safety inspector had been in the Building Three days before the fire broke out. He discovered a number of fire code violations. Another lawsuit was been filed against the owners of the building in the deadly oakland warehouse fire. The lawsuit allegation that the owner and operators of the warehouse knew about the fire hazards inside of the building but did nothing about them. The debris from the ghost ship warehouse fire may be heading off to alameda. The charred items are going to be moved to alameda point. A 38 year old man is under arrest, accused of setting fire to a plant nursery in San Mateo County last week. Investigators say after examining the scene and talking to witnesses, they identified Gilbert Flores as the suspect. Investigators are not said anything about a motive. Students at Albany High School are back in class after a protest for incidents they considered racist. The students staged a sit in for three hours outside of the school. A group of students then rushed a vehicle where a student that was suspended was inside. Everyone was outraged. We never knew how they truly felt on the inside. They were talking about how they want slavery back, thats not acceptable. Some of the suspended students are accused of posting racist messages and feats on social media, they are facing prosecution as possible hate crimes. The Napa Valley High School has suspended four students for hazing. We are live from last nights board meeting. You have no idea. You sit behind this disk and think we have desk and think we have control. Reporter the School Board Discussed the cases as some of the families involved waited for decisions that were crushing but did not come as a surprise. Its people using their power, adult bullying. The parents are not sure what type of dismissal their child got. A sophomore testified in his own hearing, denying his wrongdoing. The alleged hazing was spotted last fall by a janitor. They did it out of lack of education. They did it because they are 15 years old and 16 years old that do not have the best judgment. The investigation resulted in indefinite suspensions for many and months of hearings still pending. This month, students walked out of their class after protesting the dismissal of their football coach. Thank you for destroying the trust i had in the school. Police have identified 16 victims and almost as many alleged perpetrators and a coach they said should have reported the hazing but didnt. The Cupertino UnionSchool District has rejected new Sex Education curriculum that some parents found inappropriate. They were dealing with hiv prevention and sexual help. As you walk down the side, you can see these units are a total loss, we are being told that the San Jose Fire Department responded to this duplex this morning. 100 on the scene, they found the home fully engulfed. The crews knocked the fire down this morning. As a precaution, houses nearby were also evacuated. The good news is that there were no reported injuries and the cause is still under investigation, some homes nearby sustained damage. We talked to one neighbor that came to assess the damage near his house this morning. Its a mess. How bad . Terrible, its burned up. I have not checked my roof. My shutters are messed up. All on this side, it blew out my window. I still have to get on to the top of high roof. That window is boarded up. He lives next door, his fence is also completely gone. This week marks the one Year Anniversary of the murder of a San Francisco woman whose body was found buried in a shallow grave in mclaren park. Friends say her daughter, who is missing, was last seen that day, the family said it seeks justice and wants the child home. We come from a working class background. The first incident happened monday evening, police said the man also exposed himself to a 12 Year Old Girl wednesday. The man was driving a 2013 toyota, silver or gold. Police in San Francisco said they have one person behind bars in connection with a triple shooting that killed an innocent bystander just outside of her home. The 65 year old was walking to a bus stop when she was shot in the head and killed. Police have arrested a 24 year old from vallejo. A witness who was on the street at the time said she was there when the gunman opened fire. When i heard the shots, i went down to the ground, i saw her laying there and i started to scream. She was bleeding from the nose. There is no word on a motive but police described the victim as innocent bystanders and said that the area is at the center of a turf war between rival gangs. A Los Angeles County sheriffs deputy is on leave following of release of a video that shows him ignoring a call because he was on his phone with his girlfriend. A lot of companies also criticized the law but opposition to the repeal has been bipartisan as well.
