House my first concern was getting the people out. When the people were safe carlson had another concern, his animals. He raises competitive show rabbit and had about 100 in a bar nearby. They are all doing great. They made it through fine. An arson investigator was on the scene. They that is standard procedure. Fire crews plan to be out here through the night. Good to see the people and rabbits are okay. Thank you and. Fire crews are getting ground on a destructive wall fire that destroyed nearly 41 homes and damaged or destroyed 57 other structures. Democrats are over youre talking about collusion and we are not sure but for republicans they are saying there is a big nothing but there is, this is not a nothing. Fox2 news. Apparently this story will not go a way and we are hearing reports that the white house has quote paralyzed and helpless over this issue because donald trump jr. Is not a member of the white house staff and they have no control over what he does or says. True , but i think we are hearing the stories and everyone is spending time on trying to put their finger on trying to stop the leak and stopping the narrative. The narrative is that this idea that there was a lot more to this russian story then first meets the eye and that will go on. There may not be a, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it might be a duck. Senator mccain said this russian story is sucking the oxygen out of the room. It seems like the capital is consumed by this. This is absolutely the point. The white house claims it is running as normal and doing its job. We know and maybe we could see some things and cannot see somethings but we know nothing is going on in congress. This is consuming congress. He is right, someone needs to order an issue of, i want you to go back and scrub your email, i want you to go back and look at who you met with. If you met with a russian, you need to document it and get it to a Central Source so we can look at it. We also have to be cautious here. Most of these people have is in his dealings with the russians that are completely legal. Some chinese folks and people from all around the world also, you have to be careful. You want to identify bad actors, agents, people who are duplicitous from other countries. We never wrote russia off as a business opportunity. We know the government has problems and we dont like vladimir putin. There were business ties. Last question. It is an observation really. We know what we know from donald trump jr. And Paul Manafort and the others who have had these problems, we dont know what director Robert Mueller knows. We dont know what the House Intelligence Committee knows. It could be even more explosive. When you start pulling on the thread you keep coming up with names and then after those names you find little pieces of evidence and we have had this in american political history. This isnt new. It has happened before and as i like to say it is not the initial act, it is the coverup that gets most of these people. Brian thanks so much. Julie. The consequences of Global Warming, Climate Change and rising sea levels, coming up the findings released by scientists and the potential impact on the bay area. British scientist say one of the biggest icebergs in history just broke loose from antarctica and is about the size of the state of delaware and weighs nearly 1 trillion tons. Researchers have been anticipating this break for years and have been closely monitoring this iceberg from the sky using European Space satellites. In 2014 we noticed a large rift developing in the shelf that has detached from a large iceberg now. The iceberg is so massive in size that maps of the antarctic continent will soon need to be redrawn. Scientists say the huge icebergs taking away happen naturally and are not linking this to man made Climate Change. Today a wellknown group of activists scientists released their findings to put a timeline together for Global Warming and its impact. The union of concerned scientists laid out when they say we can see constant flooding due to rising sea levels. Tom bay car spoke with those scientists and shows us those key findings. Reporter scientific analysis of sea levels going back over many years shows there are indeed they are indeed rising. How quickly depends on how we can slow these green gas emissions. Those directly affected sea levels. A big part of sea level rise, half of it to date is due to the fact that warmer water takes up more space and the other part of it has to do with ice sheets. Warmer air and water cause the ice sheets to melt. All of that gradually raises average sea levels and raises maximum sea levels that can swamp lowlying areas. We are making we are making decisions today about where to put new housing complexes. How to accommodate the growing population in the bay area. We hope that infrastructure we are putting into place today is going to last. By 2060 parts of the bay area can expect regular chronic flooding. Alameda, oakland, palo alto, san mateo and San Francisco. That will cost all of us plenty in higher insurance rates, loss of business, loss living space, and lost habitat. That is just a small part of it. We found that hundreds of communities around the country could be spared this if we act quickly. Chronic flooding means that this would likely happen every couple of weeks, 26 times per year for hours or even days. Tom vacar fox2 news. One of the nations the biggest public works project is underway at the oroville dam in hopes it will be ready for the rainy season. There are still months of work ahead to make sure it is ready for the next round of runoff. Tom vacar was there checking on that progress. Reporter we decided to take a look at what is going on at the oroville dam yesterday. The spillways were both wracked by the onslaught of rain and runoff from our super wet rainy season. When the damage was fully revealed we were still looking at at least a quarter of 1 billion worth of damage. Today the lower portion of the wrecked spillway has been totally removed and crews are grooming the spill for the replacement spillway. On the side of the dam face they build their own concrete factory that has strategically placed equipment to not only finish the preparations for the new spillway to actually build it as well. To the left the emergency spillway that was badly damaged is also under reconstruction but again progress seems somewhat slow because the rainy season begins in just about 2 months. They will have some time to do repairs before rain gets intense but not much more time. The department of Water Resources says by november 1 there will be a capable spillway in place to handle massive amounts of rains and runoff should they materialize. Total repairs will not be completed until the beginning of rainy season 2018 when the upper portion will also be replaced joined and reinforced with the new section. Transit tom vacar fox2 news. Bill joins us live in the weather center. Is a huge undertaking of that spillway that causes so many problems last fall. You are right sally i watched them put that in when i was a kid. It was a big deal but what i thought was most interesting is the way that they just pulverized it and laid it right back in. It was all undercut and they just literally vaporized that existing concrete. They had to come in and smash it all up and that created i thought that was a genius solution. There was so much concrete there and like recycling you would airlift it out and recycle it but it was a very novel idea. Ive never seen them do that before. They save a lot of money and it will provide a nice permeable bed so that we wont see that undercutting again hopefully. 89 0 in fairfield today, these high temperatures inland a little warmer around the bay a little cooler, it is a wash just like yesterday. Tomorrows temperatures slightly warmer than today. As you look at the forecast we have temperatures warming into the bay area weekend and an interesting, oops i did not want to do that. There is the hurricane. What happens with these hurricanes is they get far enough north like this, obviously it is a depression now but that moisture can get caught up in the westerly flow here and create massive thunderstorms for san diego desert and southwest, even for us. The father nor that thing goes it could bring thunderstorms. That is a typical way that we get thunderstorms this time of year is from a dying tropical storm. There is the fog on the coast, it is deep and warm moisture and if he gets this far north it gets explosive. These were the current temperatures 88 0 in livermore. Warmer inland and cooler around the bay. Today was a lot like yesterday, tomorrow will be a lot like both days with just a little bit warmer weather. This weekend you will notice big changes. Air quality is not quite as clear. Great visibility indicating good air quality and a lot of that will tell you everything you need to know. Forget the purples which are 100 , just 90s for tomorrow. Warmer tomorrow noticeably for your thursday. Friday eight bit warmer, saturday and sunday the temperatures go up and we could get into some triple digit heat. No advisories are expected but fires are definitely something we need to think about. There are the forecast highs spiking saturday and sunday. We will have a slight cooldown monday which will be nice. After that monday even though it will be cooler it could easily be a fire day. One of the things we have found in some of the most recent studies is when we have very warm overnight lows so when you wake up in livermore and it is 68 0, the correlation for fires is much more aggressive. They have actually done these numbers and when you see warm nights, even though monday is cooler the potential for fires is much higher. Lets hope that doesnt happen. Thank you bill. This massive c130 aircraft is being loaded with 3000 gallons of fire retardant which will be dropped over the whittier fire, typically the Super Hercules is used in combat during periods of high fire activity and high demand a portable modular airborne firefighting system or maps can turn it into a firefighting machine. Out through the paratroop door we take that out and replace it with a plug, through that plug we have a duct and that is where the retardant is ejected while we are flying. That retardant can be discharged above the flames in less than five seconds. The c130 can be reloaded in 15 or 20 minutes and take off again.
