Here at the u. S. Customs and Border Protection office on alamedas Mariner Square loop. As has often been the case in past incidents around the nation, unrecognized dust or powder from mail set off the fourhourlong event. A woman had been complaining of being dizzy and some nausea, and she had just recently opened a package that she noticed what appears to be some white powder in the package so she was a bit alarmed. Once they heard the information about the white powder they decided to expand the incident to a hazmat incident as a precaution. At this point we dont have anything did he fin at this time. We actually are still evaluating the product. We have some Additional Resources coming to assist with that from Police Department. We have one patient that we are actually transporting. This was the person that made the initial call. We have two others that we are currently evaluating. Beyond that i dont have any information on the quarantine. Reporter now, just minutes ago customs and Border Protection issued a statement saying the incident is clear, that there was no Hazardous Substance found whatsoever, and that two people were actually transported to the hospital. That is the situation that is the scene that happened here all afternoon. Pretty scary for a lot of people all around here. Tom, im sorry, have they said at all where the envelope came from, who sent it . Reporter well, theres some confusion. Theres a lot of mail that comes into this office. It does work for the port of oakland, at the airport, and some facilities over here in alameda. So they get lots of mail and lots of that is opened routinely. The woman initially had no problems with it, but then when she started putting other things away she started feeling sir, then she called for the emts. Was then that the emt said, wait a minute, powder, lets turn this into a hazmat situation. The lesson for all of us you dont want to get into a situation where if you open something at your office or at home that you dont immediately report it because it created quite a stir and maybe that much but they couldnt take any chances. Better safe than sorry. Tom vy karen alameda, thanks tom. We are following another developing story. There are new details tonight about an Oakland Police officer getting arrested. A woman says she was traumatized and is now speaking out accusing the department of a cover did you know. Her attorney just wrapped up a news conference. Ktvus henry lee was there and joins us live. Henry what is the latest . Reporter julie the alleged victim is an Alameda County guilt probation officer. She and her husband were at home in the Oakland Hills when they reported being attacked by Home Invaders would turned out to be offduty Police Officers. It all started at monahans bar on december 7th. Sources say a group of offduty officers was drinking when they decided to go to one of the officers homes a mile away. But the officer apparently got left behind and got lost on the way there according to sources. He ended up on the wrong street and showed up at the cortez home. Allegedly drunk, hes accused of jumping on and attacking the woman who lives there. A defense source says the officer just hugged her. Police arrested faith on suspension of assault and public intoxication but no formal charges have been filed. Today we heard from the officer and her attorney. I told my kids to go back inside, and they were crying. And they were really afraid. So then i came back out, and i saw some of the neighbors there, and they were assisting, and i heard him using vulgar language towards the neighbors that came out, was telling her to shut up, get away from me, and at some point my husband was like, weve called the police, theyre on their way. We want a full investigation to determine whether or not there was any form of a cover did you know on the part of any officer, any attempted cover did you know on the part of anyone. So thats number one she wants, a complete thorough investigation of the incident, and she wants justice in terms of her own sense of peace of mind that whatever happened to her and her family is something that she does not want to happen to anyone else. Reporter faith and three other officers who had been together that night are still on administrative leave. Oakland police declined to go on camera but issued a statement that set, quote, takes all allegations of misconduct involving our employees seriously ensuring internal investigations are swift, fair, and prompt is our priority. It was about like six police cars. It was crowded. Cops shouldnt be under the influence of any substance, whether youre on duty or off duty. You still represent the brotherhood. No, they shouldnt be perfect. Theyre people so they make mistakes. He was off duty so hes allowed to drink if he wants to. The attorney, john burris, filed a legal claim. This is a precursor to a formal lawsuit. Bizarre story, henry. So in addition to the lawsuit, whats next that happens in this case . Reporter well, at this point the internal administrative investigation by Oakland Police is ongoing and the d. A. s office is reviewing the case for any potential charges. Thank you henry.
