The officer involved investigations are taking too long and the public has very Little Information about how they are investigated. It is separate from a department of justice report released in october but as you may recall in may, a former police chief greg suhr resigned with incidents with people of color. Theres an open position and there has been for months. The Police Commission will be meeting in a special meeting to discuss the candidates for this position. They do say that they will be taking Public Comments before they go into that closed door meeting. We will be inside city hall trying to figure out what is going on. Trying to get details from that meeting and we will bring another update in the 5 00 hour. Expected to be a significant night in San Francisco. About that closed door meeting we are joined by dr. Marshall that is a member of the Police Commission. We were down that road before dr. Joe. How close are we to a new chief . We are getting closer and tonight is a big step. We started with 61 candidates and pairing down and going down the list. We have been we have finally got down to the point that i think we can get down to the last few but we will see. We will work hard. How has the process worked what are you looking for in a new chief . We had five Community Meetings and we listened to the community and the officers and they have gone around the the same thing. Someone whos leader and reformer and someone that obviously knows the city of San Francisco and all the diversity. That sort of thing and surprisingly and maybe not. All agreed on a same list and the Commission Wants somebody to continue the reform that we started on the road and we have been on the road for 7 or 8 months since some of the shootings that can happen and we want someone to continue the reform. I know this is a closeddoor session. But can you give us inside into what the commissioners are saying. Is there a Sticking Point in narrowing it down and agreeing upon three final candidates. That is confidential. I really cant. Im a good commissioner. What about for you . Well, for me personally reform is big. Reform is big. We had a terrible officer involved shooting involving mario woods and i vowed to, if that shooting was not policy i wanted to change it and we have a new use of force policy that we have approved with the p. O. A. Over that. For me consider that reform and the use of force and the doj recommendations that have came out and the maker said we will implemental of them and this is a big for me and big for all of the commissioners. Do you think the mayor will go along with one of the three that you have come up withsome. Well, if he doesnt, we will have to start all over again. I hope so. Has he had any input. This is just the commission. Just in the commission. I havent heard a word from city hall. And he has to pick from the name that we give them and if not we got to start all over again. One of the names that we give him will be one that he chooses. Lets say that names do come out tonight. How soon do you expect mayor ed lee to make his decision. You know i have been through this before. This is about the 3rd time i have been through this search and thats up to the mayor. I know im pretty sure he wants to move as quickly as possible. Sergeant mike gant is trying to reveal the death of irma lopez in 2014. Gant claims that the defendant misclassified her death as a suicide. Oakland Police OfficerBrendon Obrian whose suicide ignited the scandal. When gant investigated officer brians role in his wifes death the department turned on him accessing his personal records and havent closed a Domestic Violence case involving him and his wife. Gant says he was forced to transfer out of the homicide unit citing harassment. The line is well and once you step over that line you are an outcast. I am tired of being made out to be the scapegoat. The traditional bail system allows defendants with money to walk free and though without the means stay behind bars until they can see a judge in the hopes of having bail reduced this attorney says. It is a two tiered system one with money and another with those without. It doesnt make anybody safer and not right and not in keeping with the constitution. It is time for it to stop.
