A suspect wanted for murder in san jose escaped Police Custody but you might be surprised to find out who captured and tackled him to the ground. Ktvu fox 2 reporter janine de la vega is joining us from San Jose Police headquarters with more on the Security Issues being raised by this. Reporter it was the police chief who actually ran after this suspect and tackled him to the ground. It happened right outside headquarters here in the detectives parking lot. The chief was a hit bit roughed up but he was in the right place at the right time. Lets go to a picture of police chief larry esquivel. His shirt got ripped at the shoulder and he was bleeding. Esquivel was driving on to the detective parking lot when he saw a handcuffed man running from the direction of the temporary holding facility. That man was 26yearold Hector Flores who had been wanted for murder since 2009. Esquivel jumped out of his car and chased him, trying to tackle him. They ran out on to the street where he was able to take flores down. Flores was originally handcuffed behind his back busboy was able to get the handcuffs to the front of his body. Pam. All right, thank you. A shakeup in cals Football Department after a recruiting coordinator was put on administrative leave. Coach did not participate in the spring game saturday and has been placed on administrative leave while the university looks into the matter. Redwood city police are alerting people about attempted kidnapping that happened last night in the area of clinton street and lincoln avenue just south of el camino real. A woman was unloading her car when someone came up to her and grabbed her. Hayward police say they have arrested the man responsible for a string of attempted kidnapping. 22yearold cigar patel was taken into custody last thursday. He was charged with three counts of attempted kidnapping with an attempt to commit robbery. The attacks starred in february. Were very pleased to bring everybody together to announce the charges. Police are not releasing a photo of patel. But investigators are look entering a fourth case. Investigators searched his home and say they found a knit hat and replica gun used in the attempted kidnappings. Neither would comment on the arrest. New information shows that a heavy equipment operator was not digging near a pg e pipeline that exploded last friday. Now the sheriff says the bucket of the front loader was being used to spread dirt in the area and driving on the dirt road when the explosion happened. There had been reports that the machine nicked the pipeline and caused the explosion. The equipment operator and two others in the blast remain in critical condition. Prepare for the worst many bay area communities are gearing up for a dangerous wild fire season. The fire season typically starts in june but with california entering its fourth year of the drought, cal fire says the peak could start any time now. Cal fire opened many of its stations and announced its at full staffing levels. Cal fire has responded to 783 fires since the beginning of the year which is a big increase compared to last year. People in the bay area now being told to clear brush away from their homes. The jurors will begin hearing today. The prosecutors are argue the 21yearold should be sentenced to death. Carve bell police and Santa Clara County fire officials are asking for your help in identifying an arson suspect. They released video. It shows a man in a hoody walking in campbell moments before a fire destroyed a work van in a nearby parking lot. Authorities describe the man as white in his 20s with a light build. They say he was wearing a north face jacket, jeans, and skate shoes and carrying a duffel bag at the time. He may have injuries to his hands and face from the fire. San Francisco City leaders are looking into Building Code changes after a deadly fire that tore through an Apartment Building in january. One man died. A half a dozen were injured and more than 50 people lost their homes. The 100yearold building had no sprinkler system. But making changes to an estimated 12,000 older Apartment Buildings without sprinklers would not be easy or cheap. There is going to be a cost to the tenants. A person of interest is now in custody in connection with stealing a car with an eightyearold boy inside. Someone stole my car with my son inside. Someone took your car and your son was inside in yes. How old is your son . Hes eight. This of course in fairfield yesterday. That 911 call was made by the young boys mother after he disappeared. The boys father says he put the boy in the car, sleeping while it was warming up in the driveway early yesterday morning. He had to run back into the house but when he came right back out the car and the boy were gone. After a three hour search, the boy was found safe just about two miles from his home. I was just completely over joy with goose bumps and i wanted to squeeze him. I probably hurt him a little bit. The boy says the suspect told him he didnt realize he was in the car and that is when he took off. Now a family in alabama is speaking out in hopes of stopping it. The family in hoover, alabama says their 20yearold daughter abandoned them last year. Lisa bailey says a glimmer of good news is Breast Cancer in older women features on tumors. The study is a call to action for better screening and for women to pay closer attention to changes in their bodies. As the population ages and live longer, youre likely to see more cancers. Sister dr. Bailey believes that something in the environment possibly low levels of untested chemicals has been triggering increasing rates of Breast Cancer for decades.
