Not sure whether or not his father will be. Candle light vigil going on at east 14th street. San Francisco Court clerks held a noisy demonstration outside the hall of justice today. Members of seiu1021 say they are frustrated by delays in the bargaining process and they rallied today to send a message that management needs to make a realistic proposals toe sal set for tomorrow. Talks began in april and that in six months, management has only made one insignificant offer while the union says they have made four. We have a call into the courthouse for comment, but havent heard back yet. A twoday strike by Kaiser Permanente nurses wrapped up today. The nurses say they deserve sufficient staffing, training, and equipment. Kaiser says it is not sure why the nurses are striking now and says it has responded to their contract proposals. Today, both sides say they hope to resume bargaining as soon as possible. 2 investigates tonight guardrails meant to save lives but the safety of these rails installed around the bay area is now in doubt. There is doubt about the guardrail and treatments made by a Texas Company that caltrans says they are suspending. It is a story 2 investigates has been working on for months. Now john sasaki joins us now from the news room with more on this controversial system. Reporter more states have banned or suspended the use of the controversial design. All this follows numerous deaths and serious injuries allegedly related to the guardrails. Pictures are horrifying. From numerous crashes across the country, that one item meant to protect drivers turns into a spear right through the carrings. This is an ep plus. Reporter Joshua Harmon says after it was approves, the manufacturer Trinity Industries changed the decide making it four inches wide rather than five. It creates additional restriction inside the head. And when it does that, that is when the guardrail will lock up and impale the vehicles. Reporter there are thousands of these guardrails across the state. Here is how they are supposed to work. When the vehicle impacts the end treatment, the railing ribbons out to the side. But harmon and his attorneys have been working for years to show the way it was designed is faulty and the federal jury agrees. I think it is a great thing for drivers on the american highways. Trinity has refused to tell the American Public about the changes they made. Reporter trinity disputes the ruling and the evidence doesnt show what the jury thought it did. It was presented to the jury. We all think those are relevant to the issue of the determination. Reporter after a parade of states moved to ban or suspend the installation and with mounting pressure from the media. Caltrans announced they are suspending them becoming the 41st state to do so. For the safety of the motor public, we decided to suspend installing any of these guardrails on the state highway system until that testing is done. Reporter and that refers to how long the testing will take. Crash tests will be done in january with testing in february. All systems will remain in place pending the outcome of the testing. Ktvu channel 2 news obtained a letter from the zoo keeper who was there when it happened. Heather holmes has the story. Reporter this new letter sheds the light on the story. It was last friday when that young gorilla kabibe darted under the door as it was closing. The zoo officials sent this letter by the zoo worker who was at the Court Reporting schools of the door. It said i began to close electric door four. When i looked again, it was closed and kabibe was trapped across her chest. It took 20 minutes to get bawang, her grandmother and caretaker. It took about 20 minutes to separate them. It shows how close the two more. Now, we also were sent a photo of a warning sign that was posted near the gorilla door. And it says among other safety measures, that handlers must keep their hands on the emergency stop button at all times. It also says not to leave the Electrical Panel until the operation of the door is complete. Her grandmother and primary caretaker and the other gorillas are greaserring the loss. A zoo spokeswoman called this a tragic accident. They called in an animal expert to investigate what happened the night she was killed. Suspended state senator leland yee will not have to go to trial with the man at the center of the sting operation. A federal court judge decided the cases involving yee and Raymond Shrimp Boy Chow will be heard separately. The first trial would focus on yee and Keith Jackson who were allegedly involved in bribery schemes. Raymond chow faces charges of Money Laundering and conspiracy. Police if San Francisco arrested a man who viciously beat a woman during an attempted sexual assault. It happened 2 00 yesterday afternoon in the Mission District on bryant street. 37yearold Marlon Bishop grabbed a woman and told her she was going to start working for him. When the woman tried to get away, he beat her with a cell phone charger. She had several teeth knocked out and suffered cuts to her head. The woman does not know bishop. Happening now, a community is gathering together in the wake of a spring of shootings that hit one Bay Area High School especially hard. They also had doves which they released for the 16yearold boy and the others who were injured. Members of the Richmond High School basketball and cheer leading teams led to way to city hall. Marching with the purpose of the violence in the community after several students had become victims of gun violence including one popular student who lost his life. He was a happy kid. The principal is talking about this young man. Rodney frazier. Rodney was shot and killed friday outside his home. Since last tuesday, four other current or former Richmond High School students have also been shot, but are recovering from their injuries. Wednesday, grief counselors were at the school to help students and staff deal with the news. Something that is happening all too often in this community. This is becoming so often, it doesnt affect them the same way it does in a different community. They are sometimes, i think, too quick to move on. Reporter students from eight students and high schools head a candle light vigil for peace to remember rodney. The outpouring is promising to some local leaders, especially since it was led by young people. They are coming from all over. This is not just limited to richmond.
