scheduled for tonight and officials have not said if they will once again cut cell phone service. joining us now with how bart officials are joining our earlier decisions to cut communications. >>reporter: the protest is scheduled for the civic center but over the weekend bart was doing some defending of their policies and what they did in an earlier protest. this is what they put into print, the letter goes on to say that the reason they shut off cell phone service back on august 11th was to protect the safety of the customers within the bart system. that has many ramifications and the letter did not say if cell phone service at stations today would be cut off but the letter suggests it would be if public safety was an issue. 96 trains and two thirds of all trains were affected by that protest. trains simply passed right through without stopping. >> i definitely don't want things to get in the way of my daily schedule and commute but obviously people have their first amendment rights. >> reporter: for people who are bothered there is an understanding about first amendment issues. they added more than 120 bart uniformed officers and personnel carrying radios and wearing reflective vests that were assigned to san francisco stations so bart said had there been an emergency even though cell phone service had been cut off they could have helped anybody who needed caught in the parking lot. >> now the gunshot victims are stable and the man who was beaten remains in serious condition. as police look for witnesses they suspect gang rivalry may have sparked that
