Lutheran Family Services in nebraska says it will continue to help syrians who are seeking asylum despite concerns raised by governor pete ricketts. Hes asked the states resettlement organizations to halt their efforts until security concerns are addressed. Lutheran Family Services says it will honor the request, but it will still help syrians who arrive by other means. That includes helping families who have sought asylum in nebraska since civil war engulfed syria in 2011. The organization has helped 10 such syrians in the past three years. Authorities say a Police Officer shot to death in the parking lot of the downey, California Police headquarters was apparently targeted. They say officer Ricardo Galvez was in the drivers seat of his personal vehicle when two suspects ran up and opened fire late wednesday. The fiveyear department veteran died in the car. A search for at least one suspect continues at this hour. A large perimeter has been set up and several apartment buildings have been evacuated as swat officers sweep the area. Several people have been detained. Police and protesters clashed overnight in minneapolis. Trading volleys of rocks and pepper spray as a sitin continued calling for justice in the shooting death of jamar clark. Just after nightfall protesters began surrounding the precinct and chanting when police sprayed the crowd with pepper spray. Minneapolis police say protesters began throwing rocks, bricks, and bottles at officers. The president of the Minneapolis Police union says clark was shot and killed by officers sunday when he tried to take one of their weapons. They are able to walk around. 52 they arent kept in cells like you would normally think is as a traditional prison setting. , said deputy warden jennifer stanwick. The prison is home to many programs. Those incarerated can learn to read and take classes torward completing their ged. Theres Vocational Education classes in trades such as welding, auto body, mechanics and landscaping. Clip 1 12 24 a lot of guys havent had a scene of accomplishment and getting their ged a lot of times they havent had something positive like that in their life, said jennifer stanwick. Plus, treatments available for those with drug and alcohol issues as well as sex offenders.
