Police have arrested. 42 yearold david to pop a for allegedly breaking into the home and severely beating mister pelosi with a hammer. He was booked for attempted murder, elder abuse and burglary. Saturday evening, Speaker Pelosi released a statement that reads in part, quote, we are grateful for the Quick Response of Law Enforcement and Emergency Services and for the lifesaving medical care he is receiving this speaker as her husbands condition continues to improve. Speaker pelosi was not home at the time. But i wasnt here for that, too. On friday, fbi agents visited the home. A resident could be heard saying they hadnt seen to poppy in 10 years and refused to answer questions. Another neighbor says they saw the puppy at the home a few weeks ago. Just like walking over here with it with a child and one of the kids from in here. It was like before that it was just like in passing like 9 months prior they were in the yard. Poppy is known locally as a pro nudity activist who have picketed naked at protests against wearing clothing. He also had a blog that focus on big brother, conspiracy theories and censorship. Meanwhile, poppy stepfather told the ap he hadnt spoken to poppy in close to 20 years, but remembers him as a quiet boy who was reclusive but never violent. And the motive of the attack is under investigation. But police say this was not a random attack. The woman was taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Police are continuing to search tonight for that attacker. A 73 yearold man suspected of hiring someone to kill his girlfriend, hung himself in santa rita jail less than 24 hours after his arrest nelson chia was accused of orchestrating the shooting of his girlfriend lily shu. She was a dent as she was killed in chinatown back in august. Police say theyre unsure if the couples relationship ended before the killing, but they say the crime was motivated by greed. Authorities say they believe she applauded with the help. A Southern California man who spent 38 years proclaiming his innocence from behind bars is finally free, exonerated by dna. Maurice hastings narrowly escaped the Death Penalty after being convicted in 1983 of rape and murder of a woman in inglewood. The dna evidence has proven what hastings has been claiming for nearly 4 decades. He didnt do it. Pedro rivera has more on his long road to justice. Prayed a lot many years. That this day will come to pass. Maurice hasting said in a prison cell for more than 12,000 days. 38 years maintaining his innocence. And on october, 20th 2022, he was finally free. Like to thank mitchell. And a team of attorneys. That helped make this come to pass. They work diligently in this matter. To help me give me my freedom. Hastings was convicted for the 1983 murder and rape of water. Meyer in englewood in 1988, hastings was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole system fail. Mister hastings. It failed. The water myers. 22 years ago, hastings had pleaded with investigators to conduct dna testing. But the former das office denied the request. Thats when hastings entered a claim with the current das conviction integrity unit with the help from the los angeles Innocence Project who ran dna tests and they did not match hastings when this new exonerating evidence came to light the das Office Spring into action.
