It bodes and waited through flooded streets today. They were saving the thousands of floridians who were trapped after hurricane and destroyed homes and businesses and left millions in the dark hours after weakening to a tropical depression while crossing over florida. Ian regain hurricane strength again this evening after it emerged over the atlantic ocean. Our correspondent elizabeth lane joins us now live from fort myers, florida. So elizabeth was happening there tonight. Well, this was day one of what will likely be years of Recovery Efforts here in the Fort Myers Beach area, in particular. Certainly the hardest hit after Hurricane Ian made landfall just yesterday. Now some of the Recovery Efforts were continuing even until just a little bit ago. But as nightfall hit, theres only so much more that can be done. So First Responders did have to wait until Hurricane Ian fully passed through the area to get out here because those winds were maximum 150 miles per hour. It was just too dangerous as winds lasted late into the overnight hours last night, weve heard some incredible stories of survival after speaking with people who did not really ilanned to weather the storm here in these lowlying areas. But they said the water just came up too quickly. Yesterday afternoon and they decided they didnt have time to get out at that point. So one man actually climb to the roof of his manufactured home. And then when you look at these images coming out of fort buyers, its hard to believe anyone could have survived that in those conditions. Elizabeth, you talked about to it being years of work ahead. And its thats pretty obvious by looking at those images. But im curious in that more near term really cant even get started until the water recedes from that area. So is there a timetable on when authorities believe theyll actually be able to get in there and start doing even just clearing roads and stuff when the wild waters, you know, when the water theyre getting in where they can. The line then have already been out today in full force, which has been really relieving a to c for these people. But youre right. Theyre still so many areas that First Responders cant even get to. Theyve been utilizing all Resources Available even from neighboring states and both on the ground in the water and in the sky to try and do what they need to do. It could be weeks at this point before theyre able to get everywhere they need to go. What this been like for you to cover this . Be there through this huge storm surge to seeing whats happening with all the destruction. And then tried to move about and report on whats going on. Its been challenging, especially because we have not had cell service like so many others since about 5. 30, yesterday. So its been a challenge even to be able to get here and speak with you. We are thankful to be safe, though. We are so much more fortunate than others. But ie also 6 generation floridian. So ive grown up around these hurricanes. Ive seen many a major hurricane hit our state. I can tell you this is the worst ive ever seen. Elizabeth well, we wish you the best as well as the countless others who are struggling to get through this. I know its a very difficult situation. Thank you for that live report. Yeah, thank you, liz. All right. Well, our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow standing by with more on and now. Yeah, theres been some changes now in the forecast path so its regained hurricane strength again, pushing out now in the atlantic. You see it moving off near Daytona Beach just to the south there and out over open waters again. Not really developing that nice circulation, that nice eye wall that you see around general hurricane. But it is maintain the strength has intensified a bit now. So heres the very latest. You can see a pounding the coastal sections as some of rain gets wrapped around some place. Daytona beach today over 10 inches of rain someplace reporting as much as 13 inches of rain. So now that wind continues to whip along the coastline that is causing all that water to pile up in his gets closer. Were talking more of a storm surge. So maybe a 4 to 7 foot storm surge along the coastline. Of course. The highest will be right where that the eye makes landfall again. And it looks like possibly south carolina, but things are changing now again in the forecast. But storm surge is going to continue until sunday before that system continues before makes its way out of town. After that, things will begin to settle down. But right now this is strengthened. This is a category one storm, but it is strengthened with sustained winds. Now of 85 miles per hour. So strengthen more than forecast so far. Watch what happens here now just off the coastline. Start to track to the north of here we go. Heres the original track was taken in the charleston is jog to the right a little bit. A little bit to the north, as you can moving in toward myrtle beach, maybe just south of myrtle beach. Thats actually a better place for it to come on shore. Its more sparsely populated in that area. But myrtle beach certainly get hammered by that storm as it moves on shore with the models. Well, heres a because spaghetti forecast its numerous models trying to forecast where its going to go. Watch. It happens. You see all the lines here. Those represent all different kinds of models. Theyve all began to move in that general direction, taken a further north of charleston. So well keep our eyes on that. Still an extremely dangerous hurricane. Of course, not coming on as a category before, but a category one can do plenty of damage to guys. Back to you. Thank you, lawrence. Here in the bay area, urban search and rescue team is standing by to head to florida any moment today, the battalion chief of menlo park Fire Protection district showed us all the kinds of equipment that they have prepared for the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. All of these members are members of the California Task force. The team is funded by fema and theyve been taking special training for hurricane rescues. The chief told us the federal government has deployed other teams that are closer to florida to help with the aftermath of the hurricane. But if the situation gets worse, they will also go to where theyre needed. While florida grapples with the damage done by Hurricane Ian here in california. Some of the best players in the nfl on both sides of the ball will be on that field and everyone is vere familiar with one another. Then at the top for a number of years. And we feel as though we have as well and a lot of these games over the last couple years have been deciding factors for, you know, playoff seeding, homefield advantage. Obviously. And thats a championship turn into the mix. We know each other very well. Its been a lot of the same core guys down there. Its been a lot of the same core guys up here. And so, you know, its always a fun battle about visa. A middle linebacker is also very good pass rusher. So each week the different positions, same thing they do in jail. This is Training Camp after all the warriors came into the season as one of the favorites to win an nba title. They overwhelming favorites. There are still a handful of other teams that are picking that many people are picking. I should say the bucs and the clippers being the other popular choices either way there will be pressure on the warriors to get it done. This isnt last season were not many expected them to win a championship. But jordan poole says this group is built for High Expectations and will embrace the challenge of the journey.
