The most significant rain in the season and looking good out there now, still a chance, more showers, although things begin to settle down around the bay area, you can see out towards sfo right now the winds have picked up. It is very breezy and parts of the bay area right now. Cool, brisk, wind behind that cold front kind of rolling in. Now were going to see that in fact overnight tonight. But what a nice little storm rolling early on this morning and then into the afternoon. Then we get the backside of it. Now its headed up in the high country. Theyre seeing a whole lot of snow. Well take a look at that in a few minutes. But still scattered showers popping up around the state. Weve had numerous lightning strikes across the sacramento valley. Things begin to break up a little bit in the San Francisco. Youre looking good there. But you see just off the coastline. Weve got a couple of cells just off the coast, even some of those have been producing some lightning. So some thunderstorms out there right now and some of that activity likely to slide and along the coastline throughout the night tonight. And i think tomorrow, too. So even though its not going to be widespread rain more scattered showers tonight and in some as well, the winds. Yeah, its been kind of gusty in spots. Even an oakland, some gusty winds over 30 miles per hour. So blustery in spots out there right now. Those winds will subside a bit overnight tonight in tomorrow morning. Local election headquarters and today marks exactly one week until election day. But dont forget early voting has been underway for about 3 weeks so far. Statewide turnout not looking too strong. Capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace dove into the numbers. He breaks down. How many californians have cast a ballot . More than 20 million californians received their ballots in the mail. But now the question turns to how many people actually vote. Ballot after ballot after ballot. Over the last 3 weeks. California saw some 22 million ballots sent to registered voters via mail so far, though, just 2. 8 million of those ballots or roughly 13 have actually been returned. The figures coming directly from Political Data inc were pdi, a nonpartisan voter information service. I think a lot of us that work in the field. Were expecting higher turnout than this. By now. Paul mitchell is pdi vice president. He says more than 20 days into early voting. The turnout is not particularly strong still, he says there are factors to consider compared to this time during the last election. 2 years ago, turnout is lower. But mitchell says that is to be expected given the fact twentytwenty was a president ial election and compared to this time during the last Midterm Election in 2018, statewide turnout so far, at least is higher. But mitchell says you have to be careful when comparing in 2018, there were literally more than a million fewer voters to start with. And only 7 counties in the state. Were mailing ballots to all the voters in their county. So now we have all 58 counties mailing ballots to every voter. So its a larger number of people that can return their ballots by mail. So the fact that its a lot higher than 2018 really isnt surprising in this blue state, democrats are outnumbering republicans in early voting nearly 2 to one with the numbers. Also indicating half of the ballots sent in so far are from seniors. While just 10 are from Younger Voters aged 18 to 34. Thats pretty shocking. It means that these early ballots que much older than the actual electorate. So if the election were to be be held, just among people have voted already. Youd see that election being skewed very heavily towards the electoral preferences, a very old californians. And if you received a ballot in the mail, you still have time to send a dent in must be postmarked. No later than election day, november 8 and must be received no later than one week after that. Probably trying to get up there. Want to yeah, the roadways. Its been tough. Youve been chained up in spots up there on 80 50 and you can see all the snow on the sidewall yesterday. You can just see all the grass out there right now. But that grass cover getting cover quickly by snow. The winds you can see blown around in the high country to do so. Weve got a winter storm warnings up there. They continue on until 11 oclock on wednesday. Advisories also continue across the spine of the Sierra Nevada. That snow level likely to drop tonight. Were going to see some colder temperatures moving in, maybe all the way down to about 3500 feet. So that of course, affect all the roadways 50 in a tieup there. If youre headed in that direction, that will cover those 2 spots for sure. And any of the mountainous areas there as well as that snow will likely to come down and we could see a few more inches on the way. All right. Here we sit right now. You can see the really the snow, the bulk of the coming through right now, some up places up above about 7,000 feet or so, maybe over a foot of snow. With that. Be nice. So its going to be that real fluffy snow as we head toward tomorrow afternoon and then looks like just more widely scattered, then tapering off late today on thursday.
