Charles. Yeah, well, it would appear that someone has been driving around the willow glen neighborhood shooting paint buildings and people. And yesterday they may have attacked the middle school. According to the San Jose Police department on monday, multiple students and at least one faculty member at Willow Glen Middle School were hit with some type of paint ball in a message sent out to neighbors. The school said thats off pellets were shot into a classroom. Fortunately, no one was injured and there doesnt appear to be any damage to the property. The school also noted that similar incidents have recently happened around the willow glen neighborhood. It does concern me read it ran live nearby. Shes worried about safety. And when i moved here, i move for reeses that it was very safe. Ring to it. And he has change. Its not safe anymore. At least we dont feel safe any ore. So far police have not identified any suspects in this case and its no to the community. The school said that the paint may have been fired from a grey mercedes suv. All right, back live. New at noon, San Francisco police are investigating a homicide in the tenderloin district last night. It happened just after midnight on market and 5th streets. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound near by the powell street. Bart station. First responders tried to revive him, but the man died on scene. Police say this is an ongoing homicide investigation. Meanwhile, a new report is breaking down just how badly the drug trade has affected San Francisco residents. It gives insight on who is dying from Drug Overdoses. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson has a look at that report and the efforts to stop the trend. So far this year, 45 people on average are dying per month from accidental Drug Overdoses here in San Francisco and the main drug out there, most 70 of these deaths involved fentanyl. Its potent and its deadly. Take a look at some of the data from the San Francisco accidental Drug Overdose report so far this year, 451 people have died. 21 1 being women, 79 being men. Theres a big misconception that its all an house drug addicts. But honestly, the data shows otherwise. 72 1 of those who died had a home address. 24 did not. And these accidental overdoses are happening all over the city with only 21 happening in the tenderloin. The number of Drug Overdoses since january 2020 is almost double the deaths from covid in the city supervisor matt dorsey has introduced an initiative called San Francisco recovers, which offers more support to those seeking recovery, reduce street level drug, dealing and open air drug scenes as well as introducing several other programs. I caught up with the San Francisco health department. A doctor tells me what theyre doing to curb this epidemic. So this may include promoting messages around safer use. This may include. Increasing our distribution of naloxone, another Harm Reduction supplies, increasing access barrier treatments. We have a Street Overdose Response Team that responds to overdoses. Fentanyl kills people quickly and often people dont have the lifesaving narcan or naloxone on hand to reverse these effects. So when First Responders like paramedics, fire crews arrived, they tried to administer it, but often its too late will continue to follow the efforts by the city. Officers say they found the body monday after responding to a report of a small fire on the paved trail, north of lopez drive. Firefighters put out that fire, but the woman died at the scene. Investigators are working to identify her. The suspect is still at large. Also in the east bay, a man facing attempted murder charges in the shooting that injured a mother and her child in pittsburgh. That shooting happened friday in the area of davie and civic avenues. Officers say 35 yearold Javier Gonzalez fired multiple rounds into a pickup truck that the mom and son were riding in the woman and her 8 yearold were injured and are still recovering at the hospital. Police say this was a Domestic Violence related crime and gonzalez was specifically targeting her. Gonzalez was booked on attempted murder and child endangerment charges. This clearly is the potential for the Death Penalty because its special circumstance involving multiple murders. Legal analyst steven clark says the District Attorney is likely to decide on pursuing the Death Penalty after speaking with families of the victims. This is not how these boys expected there camping trip to play out. It was an adventure that would truly put their survival skills to the test rescuers airlifting a scout troop to safety after rising water stranded them in a new mexico forest for todays tried to load up and many kids that possibly could. New Mexico State Police received a call early last saturday that a Boy Scout Troop of 16 kids and 9 adults were trapped in the Gila National forest. Police initiated a search and rescue and the new mexico guard stepped in to help the conditions on the ground so dangerous. They couldnt land their helicopter. An Early Morning police chase through the city streets of oakland on monday ended with the death of a person not even involved in the pursuit we do have some video of the scene from citizen app. Police say Jonathan Hernandez of oakland led officers on a chase before crashing into the back of the victims truck. Hernandez had a warrant out for his arrest since friday after threatening a driver he rear ended with a gun. Oakland police chief Leronne Armstrong says when officers spotted him on monday he got in his car and drove off. Our officers observed hernandez inter in the same vehicle used in the hit and run collision. As officers attempted to make contact with hernandez. He got into his vehicle and fled from the officers. Chief of Police Defending his officers saying hernandez posed a threat to the community as he pulled a weapon following the friday hit and run. This afternoon, a Health Advisory has been lifted in crockett contra costa. Health Officials Say they no longer detect Hydrogen Sulfide in the air coming from the crockett Wastewater Treatment plant. He says he wants to take the large supply of offices and turned some of them into housing. He says it will help with the housing shortage and make housing more affordable. When the pandemic lead closures first began in march of 2020 Office Buildings and once been filled with people became empty more than 2 and a half years later, many buildings in San Francisco still are. Its likely that the way people work not just in San Francisco, but all over the hes changing were not going to see these massive Office Buildings full of people in cubicles Assembly Member and former San Francisco supervisor matt haney says many of the companies have announced that they permanently keep their employees home. He says using these buildings for housing could make all housing more affordable. One way that we can actually increase Economic Development and spare our economy is by making it easier to live in San Francisco, cheap live in San Francisco. A lot of companies are choosing not to locate in our city because of the cost of housing. He says hes working on how the state can make the process of converting the buildings easier and more affordable. He wants the state to streamline zoning guidelines and provide assistance. We can actually provide direct support and to cities and counties that want to do these conversions. The governor has talk about putting hundreds of millions of dollars forward and allowing folks to apply for these to do the conversion to the city of calgary, canada hired the Architecture Firm gensler, which was founded in San Francisco. To create a system to determine which Office Buildings would be ideal to become homes. Gensler is project director says her team is applied their findings to San Francisco. They found that Office Buildings built in the 50s and 60s are good candidates and over a building site that has a location that has that very walkable and located close to transit, something that has access to natural light, the shape of that building for plate. And is it easy to planned residential units within that existing workplace . She believes creating more housing in the city could make the city more lively after the 9 to 5 ers go home, feel a lot of potential for that.
