Students are back in school today after reports of an active shooter at 6 bay area. Schools turned out to be fake. Take a look at this. Now. These are all of the schools that reported swatting incidents yesterday. Thats where print calls are made to Emergency Services to alert police to a specific area. You can see this happen all across the bay area and kron fours will tran spoke with a teacher and parent about the impact. These kinds of calls can leave behind. They dont know why anybody would do this. Its called swatting end. It. Involves calling the Police Department notifying Police Agencies that there is an active shooter on campus, which forces the Police Officers to rush to campus 6 altogether in the bay area. In fact, heres video of them arriving yesterday that cause School Administrators to lock down the school, told the kids to stay inside, made sure that it was secure. Hopefully that no more active shooter would be going through there and that that person was outside to be dealt with. By the Police Officers when the Police Officers came here that shut it down for at least an hour or so according to the students, turns out it was a hoax. But the fear is very real. Fact, i got a chance to talk to a teacher, a parent. Heres what she had to say about the terrifying moments. It was really difficult to teach at the same time hear about what was going on at a school in our district. My kids have both been another lockdown when they were in Elementary School. So brought back a deja moment. You seem even rattled this morning talking about it. Yeah, i ive been at lockdowns in my old district also. So. It just seen it from all perspectives. Parent teacher. How awful is that that her kids in Elementary School have already been through lockdowns. This involves according to the Police Departments in the bay area, one person maybe more, but they believe one person is actually reaching the Police Agencies through the internet, not leaving a voice message or it can be heard by another human being telling them exactly what was going on. But it turns out to be a hoax. But the psychological damage could last a long time that ptsd to the teachers, the administrators, the kids and the parents. Not to mention that if it keeps happening, that may be Police Officers will be us tick, slower. And if its a real shooting, every second counts. Back to you. Thanks a lot. Well. Tornado drills and fire drills. We also have to now do drills in case somebody comes into the school. Cook says that there is a difference between being prepared and being worried. She says parents should look for changes in behavior with their children to see if they might be struggling with their Mental Health and things to look out for can include changes in any sleeping habits or eating habits. And the city of santa rosa is moving forward with a plan to try and stop sideshows in the city. The new laws could go into effect as early as next month. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson has more details on this new plan. Santa rosa city council is one step closer to approving the sideshow ordinance. I caught up with the mayor to find out why this would be so important to crack down on these illegal events. It destroys us some of the infrastructure that we have. We can go after those folks live and make them liable now for the cost of the damage that they do to our community. The ordinance would give police the ability to arrest or cite everyone involved. That side shows, including those driving the cars, passengers people watching on the street and organizers Officials Say the city has seen an increase in illegal sideshows over the last few years. It really reached a fever pitch during the pandemic. Sideshows include hundreds of people showing up to watch cars drifting, doing burnouts and doughnuts. Theyre held several times a month. Usually at night on city streets or parking lots. Yeah. One of the things thats the most disturbing that youve seen with the sideshows. When police do engage the sideshow and tried to break it up. Some of the crowd gets very hostile, starts throwing bottles really assaults. The Police Officers. Not only does the mayor want to see this push forward, but the police chief says sideshows will not be tolerated in the new ordinance would be a tool that would deter that type of dangerous behavior. The overall message is very, very clear. Dont come here and dont do this. You put our community at risk. It is not something that we are willing to tolerate here in santa rosa, the Santa Rosa City council will continue to discuss this ordinance on october 25th. And if they approve it, it will go into effect november 25th. I feel very confident that it will pass second reading. It will go into effect. Im Sarah Stinson reporting in santa rosa. Back to you. Check in on our forecast now taking a live look outside at the gorgeous golden gate bridge. Not too much fog inside a very different scene from fleet week last week. The call for meteorologist kyla grogan tracking it all for us. Hey, kyla. Hey there. And there was a little drizzle out there this morning. Certainly some fog, no doubt about it. I figure since our weather has been relatively quiet. Lets take a look whats happening in the rest of the country. And youre im right here. You can see north dakota, minnesota, starting to get some snow out of this low pressure system thats delivering some pretty strong bands of rain that are rolling through upstate new york right now for pennsylvania, mild stopping grounds. Im a connecticut girl by birth. But meanwhile, out here in california, weve been relatively quiet with the exception of a few little kind of lines of storms that are rolling just offshore and la county. That is that low pressure system that just wont leave that hanging out in southern california. And of course, our High Pressure that also wont leave. That is hanging out right off the coast here. And so thats keeping us in this blocking pattern. And that is going to persist for the next few days. But notice we did get rid of the fog a little earlier this morning. We did start to get some of that sunshine going, but were going to see again today. Cooler temperatures if youre at the coast or here at the bay and then mild to warm temperatures, if youre inland where were about seasonal about where we should be this time of year. So today highs are going to be, as i mentioned at the coast and around the bay a little bit below average. But here livermore concord, theyre going to get right at or just about where they should be for average temperatures. Heres our extended forecast. Were going to see a little bit warmer tomorrow and then roll back down to about the same thing. And its just here we go. We kind of stay there. We just kind of hang out until this pattern breaks im looking out for, but i dont see it quite yet. Back to you. Like the sound of hanging out with warmer weather to the beach umbrella. All right. Following a quadruple shooting. What we know about the victims. And were following the latest bombshell accusations against former President Donald Trump coming up next, were live with political analysis on the situation. Youre following the prom for and watching the kron. 4 news at noon. Stay with us. Welcome back. Our top story this half hour. Were getting reports the House Committee investigating the january 6 insurrection plans to subpoena former President Donald Trump. And joining me live now to provide some analysis on the potential political impact of this latest hearing is kron fours michael yaki, thanks so much, michael. And very good to see you again. Thank you, stephanie. Good to see you. All right. So over the summer we saw the House Committee making a very pointed effort to prove the former president sought to overthrow the outcome of a legitimate national election. And notably todays hearing is the last hearing expected to happen before the november midterm elections. Now we have word of the subpoena how much do you see this potentially moving the needle for voters at the polls . Well, i think that. I dont know if its going to move the needle as much as reinforce where the is going. I think that people make up their minds and for people who were concerned about. Democracy who worried about election to myers on the ballot. Were concerned about what about the direction of the country will go regardless of weather, not that theyre personally suffering from inflation or or are worried about the issues of of abortion and other key things that are better out there right now. I think that this is something but the committee can is using to sort of every emphasize that theres a lot more at stake in this election what is at stake its very nature and the fundamental premise of who we are and what we are as a democracy in the world. And so this is what theyre going to be doing. And i think that todays search of because this is this was not foreseen by anyone until just a few. Maybe about half hour that they were going to be subpoenaed. So painting donald trump and souls, you know, sort of. Emphasizes even more. So the fact that are we going to hear from that person who sent this mob against against the men and women defending United States capitol and the men and women were certifying the election of joe biden. This morning, representative cheney said in her Opening Statement that the president was, quote. Personally and substantially involved in all of it. All of it, meaning the insurrection on the capitol. So how much do you think that the evidence presented over these last 8 hearings are going to impact the president s bid for a run in 2024. I think it has. It has a tremendous impact in facts or the the throwdown of the subpoena is a way to sort of sort of it sort of bait and and trap but trump in terms of the 2024 election, you know, part of his ego is probably cant resist the idea of going in doing and saying what he was one point the same time and another audience, bigger audience for the big line. Other hand, you also know is that he faces substantial legal jeopardy if it goes forward. And a lot of this is also sort of putting peoples mind if you want to hear from trump, youre going to need to elect a congress thats going to be in a fight with a getting him to testify because its ready, very clear that Kevin Mccarthy has said we im going to spend this committee and and tossing to to the to the dustbin history much as you think you can. If that debt, if the republicans, the control of the house present. So. Its part of the economy settle. But its been like i said, it doesnt really move the needle as much as reinforces where it is. It may be stop it in an area where the democrats great folks would like to stop, which is well, actually any american who is concerned about democracy, which is i got to make sure that this thing continues. This committee continues. Its accountability continues and people who are we do not believe in the year and the idea of the American Democratic experiment should not be part of this couple. And michael, i curious to get your thoughts on the latest coming out of the investigation into whats happening in. Maralago as well. Late wednesday we learned that a trump employee was told by the former president to move boxes of classified documents out of a basement and into the actual residents. So how much does it matter that this alleged direction by the former president happened after he received a subpoena from investigators . Well, its i think its its the coast or destruction. The idea that you have knowledge that you the subpoena, your says, produce these documents and hes sending some person go and moving him back into his personal office. Is important. Lets not forget. Minutes ago, the United States Supreme Court just upheld the decision 11th circuit to allow the investigation into those documents by our intelligence agencies to continue and they gave a one sentence order. And what was interesting about the order. It said it was an appeal received by Clarence Thomas and referred to the court. So its interesting that means that perhaps Claire Summers feel if youre uncomfortable either or or accepting the appeal, push it over or maybe roberts pulled it over to entire court and the 1, 1, sentence, unsigned opinion to go. If theres a voter with a vote may have been, they simply rejected that hand, which allows the government to continue its investigation over what was that was the classified documents . Find him a lot, but certainly the news last night could could. Hope the i could not help trumps case before the u. S. Supreme court. I find it not coincidental, but you get that information about the about the guy moving boxes at his direction out of the storage unit, it into his personal office. And then the next morning Supreme Court says okay, were going to let the criminal investigation continues. Thanks so much for your insight on unpacking all of that for us now id like to talk about something more specific to us here in the bay area. We know that clinton is expected in San Francisco today. Shes slated to meet with prochoice leaders over prop one which, as you know, would enshrine the right to abortion in our state constitution. Can you speak to clintons history of activism and the possible implications of her arrival here in the bay area . Well, i mean, Hillary Clinton is someone who was very well loved in the bay area. I had the fortune of i mean to her personally on the tarmac to with the big with big blue jumbo jet when she was out here for a visit. When i was on the board of supervisors shes shes one of the great first ladies of american history. I think that she has great start our and shes out here that to lend her support to a cause. Now its pretty pretty clear this is going to pass in california. And so thats a good place for to get a good reception and have that media sort of blow out to a lot of other areas where people can remember this is this is important. This is a person who is who is personally struggled through a lot of a lot of turmoil that has come through and one point could have been the president of the united and in 2 different very good point. All right. Kron 4 political analyst michael yaki. Thank you so much for your perspective. And analysis for us this afternoon. We appreciate it. Thank you, stephanie. Moving on to our next story. Now, former President Trump has been ordered to answer questions under oath in a defamation lawsuit filed by writer e jean carroll. Overall inflation is up 8. 2 compared to this time last year on a monthly basis, its increased about a half percent from august, but core inflation rose faster than expected to 6. 6 over the year. And thats the new 40 year record. Experts say the continuing high inflation means the fed will make another aggressive Interest Rate hike as it tries to tame inflation and millions of americans are seeing a big boost to their Social Security checks. The Social Security administration announcing this morning that benefits will increase by 8. 7 starting next year. Washington correspondent Hannah Brandt has more for us. Social security checks are getting an 8. 7 raise next year. That means on average recipients will get an extra 140 each month. This may be the first and last time we ever see a cold is mary johnson is with the Senior Citizens league and she predicts this will help seniors at a time when she says many are skimping on meals were skipping prescriptions to cut costs. People are looking forward to maybe stocking the pantry, having the funds to pay sew up a fuel tank to heat their homes and the winner. Social security payments are adjusted each year to match inflation. But this is the highest increase in 40 years. Certainly will have positive impacts, particularly for those retirees. Who really have to depend on the Social Security check as their main source of income economics. Professor Joseph Cortes says this cost of living adjustment is crucial. Its going hold their spending power from Social Security, constant in the face of inflation. And although the increase could lead to more spending quarters doesnt believe it will fuel inflation. Its certainly something the economy can absorb. What i would not say this but have major negative impacts. And as prices continue to rise, johnson recommend seniors save as much of the extra money as possible. Enjoy it now because we might never ever see it again. But spend it all one place in more positive news for seniors. Medicare part b, premiums are going down instead of up next year, providing another boost to their budgets in washington. Im Hannah Brandt. This just in the Supreme Court has rejected former President Trumps request to step into the legal battle over the raid of his maralago home. We were just talking about this trumps legal team asked the justices to overturn a Lower Court Ruling and allow a special master to review the roughly 100 documents with classified markings that were taken from his estate. The Justice Department argued that request haa no merit. The high court denied the request in a brief order. Otherwise did not comment. Were going to be following this one closely. Okay. Talk a bit about our forecast now taking a live look outside at beautiful coit tower. Nice. Clear blue skies out there. But how long is that going to stick around for . How are things looking in other parts of the bay area . We have kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan here with some answers for us. Hey there. Yeah. Beautiful today in San Francisco. Want to start after. So the real quick look at Tropical Storm karl, which is down in the gulf of mexico. You can see. A sustained right now winds at 45 Miles Per Hour. And its making this hairpin turn. Thats going to take it towards the coast. You see where that orange line is. Thats for those Tropical Storm warnings are friday night into saturday morning is when it is going make land fall rather quickly and then it will dissipate and will be cut or to power by some of the mountains that its going to encounter. But right now it is still posing a threat to those at the coast there. No doubt about it. It does have some dry air thats being dragged into it and that is helping it not to get any more powerful than it already is. But lets take it back to the bay where, hey, were off to a good start today. Really nice out there. Lots of beautiful blue skies as we take a look from the east bay. 61 right now in San Francisco, 50 out of 8 a half moon base, a little cool out there at the coast still, but were warming up inland. You could see living word. 65 74 in antioch nap about 62 in palo alto about 61. So we are going to see that pattern redevelop as we get later into the afternoon. You can see this is about 7 oclock that fog real man and the marine layer will be present. No doubt about it as we wake up tomorrow morning. So its again, were stuck in this pattern where we have the fog in the morning, but were going to be a little bit warmer today and tomorrow looks like in 62 in San Francisco are expecting about 71 in vallejo. 81, though, in livermore as we head inland, 72 in san jose.
