You can toggle between your accounts, they hate that but i can do it and see if they have any private messages, who theyve started following, who started following them. Jennifers concern wasnt as much about the addiction to the app as it was the reprecussions of what her girls might see. Stacy hernandez is a licensed counselor she says early teens are in a self concept stage at this point in their lives. Stacey hernandez licensed professional counselor, mhsp all ages counseling says because they are trying to identify themselves and they are looking for that validation theyre looking for that popularity for that comparison. Its the stage their brain is in right now and they dont understand it. In extreme cases hernandez says that can sometimes lead to depression or it could do the opposite and boost your selfesteem either way risk is involved. Stacy hernandez says if im trying to figure out who i am, and im trying to figure out how and what people see me as, then do i want to set up a positive feature of myself, or do i just want to put out a message of can i be liked . so besides monitoring your childs instagram activity what else can you do as a parent . First, privacy settings. Evaluate them. Maybe limit your childs exposure online. When they do post, encourage them to post something they like not necessarily something that requires them to receive attention. And encourage them to use instagram lightly. Let the app be used as a tool for fun rather than competition and a scale for selfesteem. Stacy hernandez says unfortunately instagram can ruin your self esteem, depends on how you use it. Over a dozen people are without a home this morning after an Apartment Fire in south San Francisco. You can see the flames shooting out of a window here. It happened just before 5 00 yesterday evening near the corner of olive and california avenue. Three apartments are now destroyed and 14 people without a home. Families had to rush out of their apartments, and fortunately no one was injured in this fire. Yeahshe was crying, first time shed scene that, but its okay family members told kron four they are comforting that young girl, and assuring her that this was not her fault. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Months after a gun battle through the streets of San Leandro Police say they now have both of the suspected shooters in custody. Police arrested marcus jones in an apartment in san leandro. The other suspect, 33 year old Davlon Harris was arrested just after the shootout in november. Police say jones was carrying illegal guns and drugs when he was arrested. Police are now trying to figure out if he is connected to other crimes. An elderly couple was seriously injured in the shooting. Jones is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder. Some relief for san jose flood victims this morning. A Southern California billionaire has given a five Million Dollar donation as thousands of families continue to clean up their damaged homes. As the victims heard about the donation, they say they are thankful for everyone that has come forward to help them. The damage is extreme both inside and outside the homes. It could take three to six months before families can move back in due to the cleanup and remodel needed. Repairs can cost anywhere from 15 to 20 thousand dollars per home. Even with insurance. The chemicals work by damaging the nerves of insects. And researchers say that could have the same affect on the development of a childs brain. Frank navarro was stabbed and killed at a nighclub where he also worked as a bouncer. Robert ruiz and Aaron Vallejo were arraigned yesterday afternoon. Navarro died sunday night outside the tres gringos cabo cantina. Friends say the fight started over someone using a different persons id. Navarro was the beloved president of the eastridge Little League. He also coached baseball and football at overfelt high school. He touched a lot of lives. He mentored a lot of kids. Maricela gutierrez is the executive director for the Services Immigrant RightsEducation Network or siren. As a response to recent immigration sweeps the group is establishing a Rapid Response network. The program will send Text Messages which will alert the community of immigration sweeps. It will also bring together Immigration Attorneys and community activists. Like activists that are willing to come down and do a shield of protection if theres an ice sweep in their neighborhood or work site. Theyre also building a network of temporary shelters or safe houses for undocumented immigrants around the bay area. The temporary shelter would include a family offering up their home if theres ever a sweep in that neighborhood or shelter if that family is afraid to come home they can stay in that house for a temporary basis. As for leo and his family. They already have a plan in place in case his parents are deported. But his mother says the fear of being separated from her family is keeping her awake at night.
