Covering all bay area traffic right now, what is going on now . It is slow out there, dave. No major hot spots or traffic alerts. A whopping backup here at the bay bridge toll plaza but this is normal stop and go traffic. If you are about to pack up and head into San Francisco right now, it is backed up to and through the maze. 580 solid from 24. You are looking at 52 minutes from hercules into downtown San Francisco. Your drive time from the foot of the maze about 3 minutes minutes from downtown oakland to the westbound skyway. About 35 minutes from downtown oakland to the westbound skyway. An assault suspect under arrest right now for causing major problems on the bay bridge for several hours. We have been following this. We have a look at the bridge now. What caused the backup in what happened . Reporter this all actually started late last night when the San FranciscoPolice Department was looking for an assault suspect and ultimately they discovered he had walked out on it the bay bridge. Now, after six hours of negotiating with him, they finally got him to come back out underneath the bay bridge but not before obviously, they had to shut down lanes of traffic for several hours. This actually all started about 11 krk last night when the chp got calls from drivers on the lower deck. They said they saw a black male walking on the bridge, picking up cones and throwing them into lanes of traffic and off the bridge. Now, ultimately, the chp did make check the with that person walking on the bridge and from there, that is where the spokesman for the chp picks up the story. Officers tried to make contact with the party when they arrived. He actually began jogging eastbound towards treasure island. Officers again tried to direct him to stop. They got out of their vehicles, made contact actually, attempted to subdue him and at that point, we had officers, i believe four officers up here with him. At that point he saw officers were on both sides, he chimed over the side railing and he chimed over the side railing and ended up on the lower beam off north side of the bay bridge. Reporter and that is where he would remain for almost six hours as they northed with him to come off the bridge. Ultimately, did he. He did. He was a suspect in an assault that had happened earlier in the night in San Francisco. He was taken into custody by the San FranciscoPolice Department. He will be evaluated is what we are being told. The lanes of traffic are back open which is good news for the morning commute. Thank you. Another big story, commuters now relieved in the south bay. Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of random shooting along blossom hill road. We have the details in this report. Reporter that shooter is finally behind bars. He is at the Santa Clara County jail just around the corner from where im standing. We do have a photo of that shooter. Police say his name is Michael James lee lewis. Police say he is responsible for numerous shootings that have taken place during the last four months in san jose other blossom hill road. All of shootings happened in the middle of the night. In august, they arrested him on unrelated charges but a search of his home turned up a handgun and shell casing some of the shootings. Police believe he is responsible for at least 10 shootings in south san jose. No one was ever injured during the shootings. The mayor praised the Police Department for their work during this investigation. He said i commend the san jose Police Department for their exceptional work to arrest an extremely dangerous suspect without any loss of life. Our officers continue to exceed expectations at a time when they remain historically shorthanded. The mayor there referencing some of the staffing shortages here at the Police Department in san jose. As for lewis, he has been charged with four counts after tempted murder and an outstand felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon. Ill be here throughout the morning with updates. Thank you. Breaking news overnight. A fire breaks out at a business in san carlo. The fire broke out around 11 30 last night at the Shoreway Environmental Center in san carlos. Multiple agencies were called in. Firefighters dont know what caused the fire and they havent said if there were any injuries. Also breaking news overnight, power has been restored to thousands of people in the east bay after an underground explosion. That was about 10 30 last night at Center Street and grove way in castro valley. Here is the picture that firefighters tweeted out for this one actually piece of a manhole cover they found near the scene. That is a big piece that broke off in that explosion. They believe there was an underground electrical vault that exploded and that knocked out the power to about 9,000 customers in castro valley, hayward and livermore. As of this morning, power is back on for everybody. I think under the leadership of barack obama and hillary clinton, the generals have been reduced to rubble. City officials in oakland anoning the new developments in the investigation yesterday. Attempted Sexual Assault assisting in the crime of profit tryings. Reporter those are some of the accusation against four Oakland Police officers that were suspended. All believed to have been involved in a multicity sex scandal involving a then underaged escort, celeste guap. A man behind bars on suspicion of starting a fire at a palo alto motel. The fire started tuesday night on the second floor of the Glass Slipper inn. About 20 motel guests were evacuated. The fire started in a room that had been rented to a woman in her 20s. Police say she has a restraining order against her estranged husband who had been in the room with her. She left the man in the room after he started fighting with her and then the fire broke out shortly after. Police then arresting the man in Mountain View. They say he threaten an officer way knife. A memorial is growing now this morning for a man who was shot and killed in san mateo. 31yearold Daniel Corona was killed on tuesday night in a parking lot. Two men were arrested for the shooting. Theyre identified as 22year old alejandro de leon and 20 yearold luis mercado. Police say it looks like the shooting was an isolated incident but they dont have a motive. The man arrested in connection to the attempted kidnapping of two young women says the allegations are all lies. Russell is charged with two counts of assaulting and trying to kidnap two young women in san jose. Russell says he met the women at a Goodwill Store and later at a bus stop but denies he meant them harm. [ inaudible ] i didnt grab her. I didnt touch her. Roe justice el has an extensive criminal history including a conviction for felony Sexual Assault with intent to commit rape. Prosecutors say the evidence will show that russell was stalking the women.
