Thousands of nurses who worked for Kaiser Permanente are off the job and on the picket line today. It affects some 86 facilities in Northern California. Nurses say this is a contract issue. The most recent killing happened last week when a 16 yearold boy was shot down in front of his own home. One just outside the Iron Triangle in North Richmond. Frequency of shootings in the last couple of days has really caused tensions to escalate. Reporter Richmond Police captain mark says rpd investigators have zeroed in on the connection between the recent shootings. Reporter we believe a feud has heated up and that is responsible for about onethird of the shootings and shooting incidents weve had. And many of the other shootings can be attributed to North Richmond and the central deep sea gang feud. Reporter in addition to increasing patrols in the areas where the shootings occurred, Richmond Police are also using social media platforms like facebook to defuse the violence. Chemical safety board is calling for major changes to californias system for regulating oil refineries. The changes are outlined in its latest report on the 2012 richmond refinery foyer. Fire. According to the csb chairman, the currently regulatory system for safety is largely reactive at both the state and federal level. The boy and his family were visiting the area and exploring the trails when he fell over the 230foot cliff. The child was airlifted to santa rosa Memorial Hospital suffering traumatic injuries, including a broken arm and leg and scratches to his face. Rescuers from the local fire department, from the coast guard and Police Department were all called out to help in the boy was later transferred to Childrens Hospital oakland. Officials say the boy was conscious and alert at the time of the rescue. Well, the bay area still desperate for rain and starting tomorrow, it looks like we are going to get some. But one veteran for one veteran we met today, its an important place to remember a good friend. I look at the grave and think of dan mccarthy, a major who died recently, good friend of mine, also a military intelligence officer. I miss him so bad. I miss his camaraderie. All the faces of the folks i worked with in afghanistan, kabul, nato. The aussies and brits and the amazing people i met, i think of them and it means a lot that there is a place where we can come and celebrate that. In the east bay, local scouts and their parents spent time early this morning dressing up the headstones at Sunset View Cemetery in elcerrito. It has become a tradition for a local boy and girl scout troop there. The veterans said they were touched by the gesture. In alameda, a special ceremony on the uss hornet for world war ii veterans. The navy pilots came to celebrate their military service with a group they called air group 11. They all served on the hornet. Many had not been back on deck since the war. We caught up with two of the members for an emotional reunion. Reporter jeff cox and bob maxwell flew aboard the hornet in world war ii. Theyre here aboard the hornet for a reunion of sorts. I found my late grandfathers world war ii journal and read the stories. Reporter he produced a documentary called 11 being shown on the ship for veterans day. Along with these men, georges grandfather was a member of air group 11, heroic fighter squadrons. Bob is an ace Fighter Pilot who protected a bomber pilot who ended up being the 41st president of the united states. George h bush. Ive met him a number of times since the war and its a lot of fun. Com easierbanking the staff at the San Francisco zoo has been closely monitoring the mourning gorilla family which lost its youngest member in what was described as a tragic accident. According to a zoo spokesperson, the gorillas are showing normal signs of grief and loss after the sudden death of a young female gorilla. On friday night when the gorillas were being moved to their nighttime enclosure, she was crushed by an automatic door. Kron4 went to the zoo to find out how younger members are remembering the gorilla. Reporter its generally a fun outing but monday the trip took a more somber note as they reflected on the loss of a 15 month old gorilla. We tried to watch to see any mourning behaviors in the gorillas. Reporter they went the only people checking on the gorillas. Crowds gathered to watch them mourn and visitors left memorials for the lost gorilla. While they were being moved to the nighttime enclosure, the gorilla was crushed by an automatic door. This accident left olson wondering why it happened. Im wondering why there wasnt a stopping device like on garage doors. We have them on our garage doors. You can put your foot in and it will stop. Reporter even though some are calling this death preventable, this man isnt holding it against the zoo. The situation is tragic but i think they were probably with whats common practice. I dont blame them this much at this point. Reporter instead of placing blame, he says more interested in he is more interesting in changing procedures for moving animals. A safety button that a person can push and the person who is opening the gate and closing the gate never leaves that button. Security researchers with fire eye say they have found a flaw in ios that could let a hacker install a fake version of an app you use on your device. This fake app would over write the real version of the app, masking the hack, thus the name mask attack. Once the fake version of the app is installed on your device, hackers could use malware to steal your information or do a number of bad things. These fake apps can land on your device if you are fooled into installing them. I know its confusesing. Heres an example. If you have the twitter app installed on your device and somehow you are shown a link to update your twitter app, maybe a text message or email or you run across it web surfing. If you click on the link to download the update, that could be a fake version of the app. That means the legitimate copy of twitter would be replaced with an impostor version that could contain malware and send Sensitive Data from your device to another user or server. Bottom line, the best way to protect yourself is to only download apps and updates for those apps on your iphone or ipad from the actual apple app store. One good thing, so far there has been no reports of anyone victimilesed by this type of hack. Apple has not commented yet on this supposed security flaw. In addition to posting fliers this weekend, on monday, family members went to stores near his brandon street hope, in hopes Surveillance Video may shed some light on his disappearance. This whole foods at 4th and harrison. His friends tell us Surveillance Video from halloween night shows someone in a red hoodie coming into the store and then quickly leaving. The images from the rear so theres no confirmation it is ha, however, he was wearing a red hooded sweat thirty, when he was last sweatshirt when he was last seen. We are waiting for the San Francisco medical Examiners Office to identify a body pulled from San Francisco bay. This morning. Reports came in about 7 30 this morning of a body float ing in the bay near alcatraz at. It appears the person had been dead for about a week. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Happening now, authorities are on the scene of a deadly officer invovmed shooting in menlo park. This is happening off of willow road between middle field road and waverly street. Now, the menlo park Police Department says that they started receiving calls of a suspicious person in the area, here, around 1 30 this afternoon when officers arrived on scene, they found a male sup suspect involved in a burglary. One officer tried to use a taste taser, to stop him, that didnt work. The suspect pulled out a gun and police shot and killed him. Also, one Police Officer did receive nonlife threatening injuries, now the suspect in this case may have actually been seen in the area before. According to some businesses in the area, there have been fliers floating around with the suspects picture on it saying they may be trying to rob the area. I spoke to one woman today who says they saw this suspect in their office this afternoon. So we had the flier posted in our kitchen and as the guy looked pretty distinctive, our receptionist today ran back and said hes in the office. We watched him go to another Office Building right across from us, park his car, get out, and go in that building, but he came right back.
