Temperatures by lunch time youll notice quite a bit of cooling compared to yesterday, the last few days, especially inland like concord and livermore, where it will be in the 60s by lunch time, even 50s, and then by 3 00 today were talking highs mainly in the 60s, no more 70s, and no more 80s. Youll want to bring out a jacket or sweater, especially inland, chilly for some folks this afternoon. Highs for today, check out these numbers. A lot of 60s. 67 in antioch and livermore, mid60s oakland. Fran a high of 63 degrees today. Mid60s for san jose, also the napa area 65 the high. San rafael 63 degrees. Well deal with fog this morning and sunshine for the afternoon but a system off pacific coming this way, i think were talking rain for wednesday night, and into early thursday morning, and then another chance for some rain comes over the weekend. Its not a huge rainmaker as far as wednesday and thursdays system is concerned but well take every bit, it also means more snow in the sierra. We may see drizzle this morning along the coast. Other than that sunshine for the afternoon, a lot cooler today. Thats the big story, and then tomorrow with increasing clouds throughout the late afternoon, the rain will hold off until the night Hours Wednesday and well see probably morning rain, and by the afternoon well see more sunshine. Happening today, today being veterans day, some of the last survivors of a group of world war ii veterans called air group 11 are here in the bay area for an emotional reunion. George ratales produced a documentary, called eleven, being shown on the uss hornet for veterans day. His grandfather was a member and flew on the ship in world war ii. He passed away a while ago but its like spending time with him again with all these guys. They think what i did was real good, and i feel, you know, kind of touchy on that. This is the first time many of these men have been back on the uss hornet since world war ii. Because veterans day is a National Holiday there are some closures you should know about. Public schools and most colleges and universities are closed today. Also most county, state and federal offices, banks also closed, and theres no Postal Service today. Coming up at 4 30 well tell you about the local ceremonies happening throughout the day. 18,000 Kaiser Permanente nurses in Northern California are expected to walk off the job this morning for a twoday strike, demanding better protection and training in the wake of the ebola crisis. For the next two days patients can enter Kaiser Hospital as they normally do and Business Hours will remain the same, but because of the strike elect unfortunately surgeries and nonurgent appointments will be rescheduled. We have more. They will not listen to us. They are not listening. They are not moving and giving us what we need. Reporter in order to adequately take care of patients walking through Kaiser Hospital doors, nurse katie roamer said tuesdays strike has to happen. Starting at 7 a. M. , thousands of nurses will walk away from their jobs to picket, hoping that will get their point across to the administration. This whole doesnt need to happen. Weve put 39 proposals on the table. Almost all of those are about safe patient care, kaiser has not moved to agree with those proposals. Were really concerned about the lives in our hands every day and ability to take care of the human beings the strike coincides with national day of ebola preparedness, another major concern for the nurses, but in a statement kaiser says the reasons for the strike are not supported by facts, and that the hospital is doing Everything Possible to ensure the safety of each nurse, physician and staff member who may be called upon to provide compassionate high quality care for patients with the ebola virus. Police are still investigating a suspicious death at a Fraternity House near the uc berkeley house. Well have details. A 4yearold boy is recovering after Officials Say he fell down a cliff during a walk along a trail in bodega bay with his family. Firefighters say the child suffered traumatic injuries when he fell. Jeff bush has more on the dramatic rescue. The 4yearold boy was brought here to santa rosa Memorial Hospital after being rescued from the very sheer and high and very steep cliff. He was brought here and listed in critical but stable condition and is expected to be okay. Lets take some video of the daring rescue, bodega bay firefighters were trying to figure out how to do this. There were helicopters from the coast guard, the firefighters were there, the police were there and eventually they decided that they would rappel down this cliffside, more than 200 feet. They got this boy into whats called a stokes basket which makes him immobile and they lifted him up with ropes. This boy is lucky to be alive. Multiple traumatic injuries, the child was conscious and alert, obviously crying, which was completely appropriate for the injuries he sustained. Reporter the boy was with his family at a place called bodega head, in a remote area near the marina. For some reason, this boy got too close to the edge and he fell. Firefighters say it was more than 225 feet to the bottom. Helicopters helped with the rescue operation, the conditions became too foggy for Flight Operations and the boy was driven to the hospital in santa rosa. Once the boy was stabilized in santa rosa he was transported to Childrens Hospital in oakland, so that they can take care of him. Hes going to need several surgeries to tend to his wounds but hes expected to survive. Im jeff bush in santa rosa,. To the south bay, the new mayor of san jose, his opponent cortese conceded yesterday. 11,000 votes need to be counted but that doesnt appear to be enough for cortese. There is a 5149 lead in the tight race. La cardo says Public Safety is his number one priority. Weve added a police academy. Weve got a lot of work to do. The dew points need to rise a little bit, were seeing winds out there so that may limit the fog from forming from most locations. Napa youre getting close to seeing some fog. Temperatures are mild, especially the north bay. Typically were seeing 40s over the last few mornings but now were seeing upper 50s in napa. 55 for novado. No more 70s. Well notice cooling in the livermore area and antioch where the high will be around 67 degrees today. 63 in sound San Francisco, oakland 66, and the south bay mid60s. Lets talk about the rain. Night. By 6 00 the rain is getting closer, were seeing the green come on the green. By 9 00 we may see a push in from santa rosa to san rafael and for the coastline by 11 00 tomorrow night pretty widespread encompassing the entire bay area through the overnight areas. By 4 00 it starts to pull out. Livermore, san jose, you may see some lingering showers for thursday morning. By the afternoon well see more sunshine and well be drying out. Richmondsan san rafael is quiet. Berkeley Police Identified the 20yearold man whose body was found in a Fraternity House near the uc berkeley campus. Police say he was found dead in the Fraternity House in berkeley just after noon on sunday. He had recently transferred to ucdavis, he was not a member of the fraternity but family members say i was in berkeley celebrating his birthday. Police are calling the death suspicious but at this point they have no indication of foul play. Were being very cautious and very thorough in our investigation, thats why we classify it as suspicious. We want to make sure we investigate every avenue and try to find out what happened to their son. An autopsy was performed yesterday to see if drugs or alcohol played a role but results wont be available for four weeks. The fraternity sits feet away from californias campus, its not officially recognized by uc berkeley. We have more on that side of the story. The fraternity hours is across the street from the campus, the berkeley chapter was established in 1870, the First Fraternity at cal. But as of august 2014 it is one of 19 no longer recognized by the school. A University Spokesperson declined an interview request for the story but she did say if a Student Organization fails to comply with School Policy on matters such as new member recruitment, hazing or conduct they can lose their recognition. They lost their affiliation with cal in 2010, the exact reasons are unclear. Groups are often first given a warn they can violating policy. Once a group loses recognition they are no longer allowed to recruit on campus or use school facilities, they are no longer subject to oversight by university staff. The cal website said students are counseled against joins these groups. Zeta psi prefers to remained independent. Antioch police are looking for information in the case of a man found dead on a sidewalk over the weekend. The victim has been identified as william boyd iii from oakland, shot to death, his body found at grassland and whitehoff saturday. Boyd had no known ties to east Contra Costa County and they are not sure why he was in antioch this weekend. Three men were arrested after attempting to rob a mcdonalds at gunpoint and fleeing police in antioch. It happened on sunday at the mcdonalds on mahogany way near Auto Center Drive after 8 00 in the morning. Officers say the suspects had already fled the area by the time they arrived but police were able to spot the suspects vehicle a short distance away and followed them. One of the three suspects exited and ran but was caught, all three were taken to jail in martinees. Family and friends are mourning the death of a 16year old gunned down in his front yard. My pulse, my program, my point guard is dead. He was starting to get pretty darn good. Reporter practice goes on, and so does the pain for the oilers basketball team, they lost a team made, leader and friend. He was our guy. Reporter the 16yearold Rodney Frazier jr. Played point guard for richmond high, where he was a junior. Friday night he was shot and killed at his North Richmond home. Robert collins, his coach, got the call in the middle. Night. He said, coach, did you hear about rodney . I said what are you talking about, man . He said he got killed in his front yard tonight. I hung the phone up, i grabbed my cat, i laid back down and i was hoping i would go back to sleep and wake up and it was a bad dream. But it wasnt. Reporter coach collins said frazier was not involved in gangs, he spoke with him about it not that long ago. I said, hey, little rodney, how come you stay out of the stuff. He says, hey, coach, its easy to stay out of the stuff. But its hard to get out of the stuff once youre in it. I was very impressed with the maturity of someone who was 14 years old, he would know how to formulate that thinking. The truth is weve lost a great young man in our community, who was doing everything right. And we just want to know whats the solution to end this stuff because were tired of it, were sick of it. He was working in west africa with doctors without borders. Spencer now is ebola free and hes expected to go to his apartment after hes released. Why would you leave it there . Reporter three drivers found out the hard way leaving personal property visible in this parking lot is not a good idea. On friday three vehicles were burglarized, according to bart police, just before 8 p. M. A report of a honda del sol was broken into right here in stall number 1316. An estimated 120 worth of personal items were stolen including a leather portfolio and ipad case. Prior to that another report of a stolen lap top and stereo equipment came in to police in an estimated loss close to 3000 in that case. A third incident involved a breakin but no loss reported. According to investigators, in two of the cases the thief used a shaved key to enter the vehicles, and personal properties was in plain sight. Are you the kind of person that leaves your lap top visible . No, i always put it in the back. You think your stuff is safe. I mean, i feel horrible now but im in a hurry so i dont have no choice. He and his fianci blame the other there were no eyewitness accounts and lack of cooperation left them unconcern about what happened. Meantime antidomestic violence advocates are reacting. One is disappointed with the decision but doesnt believe its a setback for the moment. I think peoples tolerance of the problem is beginning to shift and people look at it and say its just not okay. Experts have a warning for apple users, anyone with an iphone or ipad may be at risk of hackers stealing information. Security researchers with fire eye say they have found a flaw in ios that could let a hacker install a fake version of an app you use. This fake app would overwrite the real version of the app masking the hack. Thus the name mask attack. Once the fake version of the app is installed on your device, hackers could use malware to steal your information or do a number of bad things. These fake apps can land on your device if you are fooled into installing them. I know its confusing. If you have the twitter app installed on your device somehow you are shown a link to update your twitter app, maybe you get a text message or e mail, or you run across while youre web surfing. If you click to download the update, that could be a fake version of the app. That means the legitimate copy of twitter would be replaced with an impostor version that could contain malware and send Sensitive Data from your device to another user or serving. Bottom line, the best way to protect yourself is only download apps and updates for those apps on your iphone or ipad from the actual apple app store. One good thing, so far there has been no report of anyone victimized by this type of hack. App am has not commented yet on this supposed security flaw. An accident along 680 southbound north of vargas, the chp has left the scene now and they are cleaning up and most of the accident is on the right shoulder. It wont be impacting your drive because traffic is so light and chp has left the scene and things are going to be returning back to normal there if not already. Here is a live look at the bay bridge commute, were look at light conditions, because of the holiday today with schools being closed and government offices being closed it should be a fairly easy ride into the city today, if youre going into the city or the south bay. I think in the north bay well see fog developing, dew points are close to the temperatures, so i wouldnt be surprised. The richmondsan rafael bridge problem free for now. The captain of the south korean ferry that sank in april has been sentenced to 36 years in prison. More than 300 people were killed in that accident. The captain and three other crew members were indicted on homicide charges. The chief engineer of the ferry was also sentenced to 30 years and other crew members were sentenced to up to 20 years. Prosecutors say the crew was negligent and abandoned the passengers which caused their deaths. Making national headlines, lava from hawaiis kilauea volcano demolished its first home, burning the house to the ground. You see it catching fire there. Officials say it took 30 to 40 minutes for the home to be engulfed. The lava entered the town on the big island on october 26 when it crossed a country road at the edge of town. Homeowners cleared out and none of them were injured. New video shows chaos amid the yarnell fire in arizona. That fire took the lives of 19 firefighters in june of 2013. This video captured by other firefighters shows the intense 2,000 degree conditions of the fireball and shows the desperate search for the Granite Mountain hotshots who had been trapped by flames. Firefighters were part of an elite squad sent to combat the fire and captured the latest Radio Communication moments before deploying emergency shelters, a safety device of last resort to protect themselves from the heat. We need to get everybody out of here. We got fire coming across. Need to get them out. The lone survive was serving as the crews lookout. Brendan mcdonough, a father who now travels to help others there was no negligence on the part of the firefighters. San francisco zoo visitors remember the gorilla who died friday night, killed in a tragic accident. Lisa olson has been coming to the San Francisco zoo for 40 years. Its generally a fun outing but monday the trip took a somber note as she and her daughter reflected on the loss of the 15 monthold gorilla. Its saddening. Were trying to watch to see if we can see mourning behaviors. They were not the only ones. Crowds gathered to watch them mourn and visitors left memorials for the young gorilla lost in a tragic accident. Friday night while the gorillas were being moved to the night enclosures he was crushed by an automatic door. According to a spokesperson, by the time staff got to the shut off button for the door it was too late. This accident left olson wondering why it happened. As the morning progresses and our temperature drops, in the locations where it drops enough to meet the dew point well see fog begin to form. Were still looking at 63 to 67 degrees, depending on where you are. Its going to be a cool day, different compared to what you had yesterday so be be ready for it. This system in the pacific continues to churn. It will eventually slide closer and closer. It looks like at this point wednesday night into thursday is when well expect rain from that system. Health investigators say the new york clinic where joan rivers died made several errors in the procedure, they say the clinic failed to identify deteriorating vital signs and to provide timely intervention. We expect to see fog forming here before the morning is done. Also the lower peninsula from about redwood city down through mountainview, and some portions of the santa cruz mountains, dew point and temperature are close so well expect fog there. The update, santa rosa, fog beginning to form as we thought it would, visibility dropping from 10 miles down to 9. That could continue to drop here as the morning progresses. Well keep an eye on that for you. Temperatures though as mark said, a cooldown today, thats the weather story for today. Big time drops, noontime 60s and 50s on the map. You see the green and blue. We havent seen 50s during the lunch hour in a long time. Today well get it. Even by 3 p. M. , 60s and 50s, no 70s on the map. Temperatures will pretty much be from 63 to maybe 67 degrees as you can see here, 63 san rosa, 67 antioch and livermore. Thats the kind of day we can expect.
