eucalpytus near the end of their life cycle. the extreme weather may simply be hurrying the process. but he has begun to notice something unusual happening. >> it is something i have never seen out, mop up, and dry out ahead of the next round of storms. >> the cleanup will take them a long time. and people have to be patient and it is something that is going to be with us for a long time. this is no easy fix. it will take a long time to clean up. >> reporter: randy set up gas powered pumps to remove any remaining water from his house and hopefully, prevent or minimize future flooding. night into tuesday morning. the concern is several feet of standing flood water won't have time to drain away before then. that's problematic for crews who have not been able to reach parts of the levee that need repair. >> i have been trying to tell people this for a week. if anybody was on that wilton bridge at 1:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. when the levee let loose, their car would have been slammed up against the side of it. >> at this point, the repair efforts are more about minimizing flooding than stopping it altogether. back in the east bay, a broken's eye view of the race to protect a hillside. homes at the base of that hill could be destroyed. if the hill gives way. >> wilson walker went back and shows us how fears are only growing with more rain on the way. >> reporter: this was last weekend's big storm. someone walking this trail was sharp enough to notice the crack in the hillside and know that it was absolutely something that needed to be reported. now, just about a week hill. tunnels down to a fresh water pond across the street. yeah, the pond was pretty empty before this week. >> reporter: the evacuated streets are now empty except for the few homeowners who were allowed today grab more belongings before an absolute stay-out order. >> some people decided to stay. >> reporter: we are told by a spokesperson for the city that there are really two efforts underway on the hill. first, they are covering the problem area. and they are also installing instruments that should provide a better understanding of what's happening in the ground. is it still moving? is it additional rain worsening the problem? when they know more about that, they will be able to come up with some long term plans. for now, all they can do is hope that the short term fix prevents any more problems in the days ahead. >> i'm not sure if it will or won't. i don't have an opinion on that. i hope it does. >> well, the slide risks and storm damage are keeping the east bay regional parks district closed until further notice. hillsides in the open space in lafayette are giving way. cattle graze there which apparently makes the area especially prone to erosion. all right, darren, i keep on asking when is all this rain going to be over? but we have quite a bit more storm coverage to go through. >> you are not the only one andrea. i want to talk about the main event on monday. and then at the end of this, we will answer andrea's question because it is going to be a while. we had a good little batch of rain. we are not done with this system tonight. it is not done with us. it is going to bring better organized lines of rain throughout the evening. probably even be a little bit of an up tick. stronger downpours and stronger winds. and the good news as we saw, but sunrise tomorrow, the rain and the wind let up. and we got a nice breakthrough sunday. so if you look at the rainfall totals, we will get half an inch of rain. here is the wind. the wind picks up at the same time the heaviest rain bands do. so watch, it is windy out there now. it gets a little bit deeper shade of purple as we get to 10:00 and 11:00. a little further into the scale this way. and the gusts are now in the mid 30s to low 40s . we will very had trees go down. the main concern with tonight's storm is this. because we will have the strongest wind in the coverage of darkness. if you have to be on the roads or the predawn hours tomorrow morning, just start thinking ahead about unexpected obstacles you might encounter. whether it is a downed tree or minor flooding. the major flood concerns tomorrow. but we still, the ground saturated enough and streets can have minor localized flooding even with this system tonight. so let's look at the next one. here is that break on sunday. sunday, 1:00 in the afternoon. maybe a few clouds and no rain. but, technically, the next storm actually gets here on sunday. that's 10:00 at night. and, we are already right back into it. it is a totally separate storm. it is going to have different characteristics. this one will be fueled by a more powerful atmospheric river and it will be able to deliver more widespread steady rain. this is the kind of system that can do it on hours at a time. and we are going to see the totals add up. and the main point is going to come really from late sunday night through monday morning. because that is where we will be kind of right under that fire hose. there is a little bit of good news on the updated forecast on how monday afternoon plays out. the direction that hose from the atmospheric river is pointed will shift south a little bit and it is not good news for big sur because they will be under the brunt of the heaviest rainfall. but it gives the north bay a little bit of a break. but probably not enough. we still have a flood watch that will stay through tuesday. and on tuesday, the character of the rain is totally different. because by then, we have gotten out of that leading edge and we are getting into the center of the low. you will see more scattered isolates showers. you can see the rotation in the center of this thing right off the coast as it rotates through. so it will be more spotty. off again, on again. very different from the nature of what we are going through from late sunday night through monday morning. look at the totals. just sunday night through monday's storm. that is not the addition of, you know, the one we are getting tonight and the one that's coming. this is just that time frame. we have to add that to the inch-and-a-half we are getting in the north bay. that is why the flood watch stays in effect through tuesday afternoon. and, this covers all of the usual suspects. street flooding is going to become an issue with this one as we go through monday afternoon. and creeks and streams will be approaching their banks. and we'll probably see flooding on the main stem of the larger river in the north bay. the russian river is forecast to go into flood stage. so put all that together, first alert status stays in effect through tuesday. things quiet down wednesday and thursday. and then, the rain drops get bigger on friday and saturday. you can see that back there. that's the next storm coming our way. we will get more widespread rain by friday. all right, charlie, over to you. all right, when it rains it pours with the weather and sports, when good news happens it usually comes in bunches from damar hamlin to the warriors. and, of course, deebo samuel back in action. not the receiver deebo samuel will play on flying since you started? >> i will say the one today actually was very, it was kind of precarious for the crew. >> you know, that's one of the most stunning sights to me. the levee breakage that led to the flooding of 99. >> and a timely follow-up to that story. the way this storm is coming together on monday, there has been an update in where the plume of this atmospheric river is going to make landfall and it shifted a little further south. and that does have a hugely important impact in terms of who need to be the most aware of what monday is bringing and monday is the biggest part of this whole series of storms. we are not there yet obviously. so let's go and order. here's the rest of your saturday night. widespread showers are going to stay with us overnight. they will pick up in intensify a bit as we get to midnight. a little bit of an organized line that comes together. kind of like the grand finale of this around midnight to 2:00 a.m. so rainfall rates will pick up and the wind will get stronger when that comes through. by sunrise, it is done and you will get a break on sunday. there is no rain. the wind will have calmed down. most of sunday we are in the clear. but the next storm actually gets here sunday night. here is how much rain we get. this is taking us overnight through saturday and sunday morning. we get about an inch-and-a-half. that gives us an elevated concern when it comes to our flood risk. so streams and creeks, roadway flooding, the primary concern will be late tonight and tomorrow morning and especially concerning the fact that 30 to 40 mile-an-hour gusts coming through tonight, between 10:00 and midnight will almost certainly take down a few more trees. we have already had it happen. that's the number one vulnerability that we have got for the storm. especially if you have to be out driving around in the darkness. so just be thinking ahead for possible obstacles on the road. that covers this saturday night storm. look at sunday in the middle of the day. nothing going on. then we bring in this next storm and you will see a very familiar pattern. the rain starts, we get into saturday, sorry, we get into sunday and we are seeing the best rain sunday night. and we get into monday morning and now, we start to see a concentrated narrow ribbon that steady hose pointed right at us coming across. and watch it shift to the south a little bit. everything is flowing into the bay from central california from the southwest to the northeast. if we pause it here and come up for a closeup look, that is a little bit further south for this concentrated plume where you are kind of really feeling the most direct impacts of all of that water vapor getting pulled out of the sub tropics and funneled into this storm like that fire hose effect. look who is in the clear. you don't need these things to shift much. a 30 or 40-mile shift in the center of the plume of an astomous fearic river is crucially important. that is why that story is so important when it comes to storms like this. the focus moves down to monterrey and down toward big sur. that finishes that phase of the stormment we get into a break as we go into the later part of monday, actually. and then the final phase of the storm comes no. this gets us into tuesday. that's a cold front. that line comes through fairly quickly. and back here, is where you get your isolated thunderstorms. so, tuesday, we'll have rain on it. it will have a totally different character to it. it is not the constant steady everybody is getting rained on. that is the part of the storm that does the bulk of this. when we think about this from a flood concern, that is the time frame to be the most aware of. where are we monday morning and where do things standby the time we get to monday afternoon? there are still more storms coming after this one. i will give you a quick preview. look at the next one. it doesn't look that impressive when it gets here, but friday and
